Our reservation was at 8:30 pm, and upon arrival, we noticed that seven four-top tables in the main dining area were unoccupied. Despite this, my wife and I were seated in an overflow area. We politely asked the server if we could be moved to the main hall, especially since the restaurant had been recommended by La Cantera, the hotel on the property. Unfortunately, the server s response was far from accommodating. She dismissed our request and said she needed to check with her manager. A few minutes later, she returned with the usual, I m sorry, we re fully committed for tonight. Now, I understand that situations like this can happen, but it did feel odd that the other guests seated in the overflow area were also minorities four young women and another couple. I d like to think it was just a coincidence, but the situation left us feeling uneasy. Ultimately, we decided to leave and went to J-Prime Steakhouse instead, where we had a fantastic experience. To top it off, as we were walking out, the server suddenly informed us that a table in the main hall had just opened up due to a cancellation. By then, it was too late for us. While we waited for our Uber which took 17 minutes no one else arrived at the restaurant. La Cantera and this restaurant (Signature) seem to share one unfortunate trait: poor service and poor management.

Fantastic service. Johnny was an amazing server. Everything was tasty and the presentation was out of this world! Highly recommend Signature! All serve staff seemed to work together. If anyone saw something ready to be picked up, they did it without hesitation.

Exceptional dining experience. This was our first visit at John Carpenter s Signature restaurant La Canterra, San Antonio. We celebrated my wife s birthday with a wonderful tasting menu crafted to delight the senses. Each serving was better than the prior. Server Grace took extraordinary care of us. I left 2 gift bags with Grace to present during our meal as a surprise for my wife. Grace cleverly at our surprise brought one bag at the beginning of meal and the second at the end of. Stupendous job Grace. Thank you!!!

Pretty damned good overall. The sauce on the pork rib was awesome, and even though Im not usually a fan of greens, they were excellent. The potatoes with the prime rib, however, were a bit too salty for my taste. The asparagus was just okay not out of this world. The service was very awesome, and it was cool being able to see them work in the kitchen. The atmosphere is great, making it perfect for special occasions. Dessert was a mixed bag. The Tiramisu was not impressive at all, but they brought out some little desserts at the end, which was a nice touch. They also sent us home with an awesome piece of chocolate cake with raspberries inside and a fancy gold flake on top. That was much better than the Tiramisu. (we paid for the Tiramisu, but the extra little desserts at the end seemed to be part of the experience - the chocolate cake with raspberries seemed to be part of the birthday dessert with no additional charge). We left with many sweets, so Im really not sure what we paid for. Overall, a great place with some standout dishes and excellent service.

July 4th weekend: This was our first visit to Signature for my birthday weekend at La Cantera Resort. We read many of the reviews and this was the most excited we have been in a while to try. Staying at the resort we were shuttled by golf cart to the restaurant which is adjacent to the property to a late 9:30PM dinner appointment. As soon as you enter the restaurant the hostess greets you with expectancy. A round table was beautifully prepared awaiting my family and I. As you walk through the restaurant in its dark and amber light environment, the mood completely shifts to a romantic mood. I highly recommend a date night here. For our first course we ordered the white sturgeon Russian caviar with all of the topping options which included poached quail eggs, sautéed finely diced sweet onion, chives, cremá, raw red finely diced onions and capers. Served with a lightly toasted sliced buttered bread. As you layer the toppings and the caviar on the bread, the presentation was quite pleasant, once you bite into it all of the flavors mixed well and the caviar popped in your mouth creating a delicious yet light experience. I do recommend the caviar and would have it again. I opted for Chef John s Tasting menu, and began with the summer truffle risotto. This small and light dish was the perfect entry to the restaurants pairing menu, I thoroughly enjoy allowing the chef to select my menu. The risotto was buttery and Parmesan truffle together with the aioli paired well. The flavors burst in your mouth and before you know it the petite dish was completely consumed in about 4-5 spoonfuls. For the main course I had the prime beef tenderloin prepared medium rare. I m a big steak and beef fan, and this was the most exciting part of the meal for myself. As I bit into the beef that was pre-sliced, it was warm and succulent and melted in my mouth. With every bite, the flavors of garlic and onion completely filled my palette. I would recommend this particular chef s pairing. As they change their menu monthly, I m not sure how often it is available or rotated. The for the final course we ordered the chocolate caramel with sea salt cake. I m not big on sweets but we ordered it based on our waiter s recommendation. As I tasted the cake, it was extremely light and fluffy, it was not rich at all, and not overly sweet, the sea salt balanced out the light caramel drizzle. Overall I had to give Signature a 5 star all around experience, specifically also our waiter was one of the most friendly and knowledgeable and attentive that we ve had in a while for a fine dining experience. We were the last ones to leave the restaurant and the waiter himself escorted us by golf cart back to the resort. He didn t have to do that, but he did and we greatly appreciated it. We definitely will be back to Signature and look forward to a new chef s tasting menu.

Best Breakfast / Brunch in San Antonio by FAR. The food and its presentation A-mazing. One of the best Cesar salad I have had. The Foie Gras was seared on both sides perfectly even and across the entire meat face and some depth. Press coffee also a delight ! Enjoy you can have high expectations on this one Dinner Sadly my Favorite Place has lost its edge for Dinner. It remains San Antonio #1 Breakfast/ Brunch However Dinner has changed; Poor Educated Servers- Error of Management. Menu is simplistic, Signature lost its iconic Chef and current is lacking or Management has also decided they are more educated to advise Chef and its demonstrated that their current function as a manager is lacking so you can expect the spill over to kitchen. The uneducated servers do not understand the finer points of serving in 3-Star or less. I have seen better service at Jim s. The food as well as selection reduction it has seen management lack quality ingredients for margin. This review saddens me to Write - but the King has fallen and I promised to always be honest. I will try dining an evening meal again this summer and hope for Management Change, at this point I have never seen Arrogant managers, capable of self assessment, learning and changes. New must be found.

The signature is a disaster. They thought they had the authority- but for the fact (truth) they dont. They leave my daughter hungry as a hotel guest. Too bad we had food @pool and being elegant with the right manner & 46% gratuity- (my daughters decision). This is one of the few times that I decided not to be Karen as my daughter insisted. Last time not being Karen was @Four Seasons. Do not come to this hotel if you are under Biden/Harris 400K The restaurant manager even called the on-site security to escort us. (You need to update your social media. If you are unsure who really runs the world) I will file the credit card dispute(s) with this hotel by all means. I have very limited human credit to spend on unearthly things. Update I Even after I went to the front to (Bidens address) my frustration with the restaurant Signature. The front (the mid size middle age girl like me used her tone and called the on-site security again- No politics. Even if mentioned the red state with a victory of justice and truth. (Not welcome) Since they starve my daughter- I was no politic(s) but truth- do not come to this hotel. | Update II La Cantera Resort & Spa is A Cockroach Hotel. And I got Food Poisoned Symptoms- vomiting, diarrhea, and chill fever in the last 24 hours. With one of their restaurant Signatures mussels. (After the long wait of starving) God blessed my 10 yr old she has not been poisoned. I also report the Hotels Cockroach Disease and Disaster Complaint(s) to Texas Public Health Department. La Cantera Resort & Spa should never exist on earth. |

Deeply disappointed to find foie gras on the menu. Serving foie gras is not only unethical but also inhuman. I am astounded that any chef would be serving it in this day and age. I cannot support a restaurant that condones such cruelty. Until they remove foie gras from their menu, I wont be returning.

Im a born-and-raised San Antonio foodie, and I have to say this is the BEST culinary and dining experience Ive had in our city, ever. The food is unmatched in quality, flavor, creativity, and aesthetic appeal. Absolutely gorgeous and out-of-this-world selections on the dinner menu. The service (thank you, Albanny!) is also 5-star. My recent birthday dinner here made me feel like the luckiest lady in the world. My husband and I will absolutely be back! Excellent food and apparently good service; since once you consume they ask you kindly to get up from the table and they send you to the terrace behind . I wonder if after paying a bill of more than $1,000.00 and then removing the full wine glasses (because they didnt ask me and they took my full wine glass) and collecting the tip that you cant choose... This Is a deal worth it? Or were they being racist because we were the only Spanish speakers in the place? I must say that I left with a very bad taste in my mouth and that the experience was completely ruined by this. I wasnt in the mood to argue, but it was definitely NOT a pleasant experience and I had never experienced anything like this in my life.

Truly Exceptional Experience!! One of a kind!! World Class Service from the moment we approach the door when someone opens it for you to the very end when the waitress asked us if she should call our shuttle in advance to be ready to pick us up. VIP service ALL the Way!!! We loved our 1st visit so much we came back the following night! And they delivered the same CONSISTENT EXCEPTIONAL SERVICE once again!! Every detail that amazed us the 1st time was there again like clockwork. This includes the amazing service by our waitress and her team of other servers who bring a plate of citrus options for your drink, to the very fresh hot bread made just for us, to keeping our drinks topped off, and even bringing us a sample of small dessert treats when it s time to pay for our meal simply amazing!! Overall, the experience was ok. The highlight was the service, perfectly on point. The food presentation was also nice. Two nice things stood out on the food side: the axis venison, and the cocktail. Both very good. On the other hand, the foie gras, the scallops, and the salad were meh. The salad even had portions that were a little spoiled. The scallops were boring and flavorless, please add some butter and garlic at least. Certainly not matching the bar set by the price. I ve rounded my actual score of 3.5 up to 4, but really it s a 3.5. For the price, you re better off going to the capital grille, eddy v s, or even the roaring fork in Austin.

We were incredibly impressed by both the food and service at Signature. The staff was friendly, professional and attentive. The food was delicious! We ordered the fried oysters and caviar, beef tartare, sea bass and the tagliolini pasta. All were so flavor forward and wonderfully portioned. They also surprise you with a little amuse bouche in between service that were exceptional. I could have gladly ordered an entire bowl of the soup. We cannot wait to return.

If I could I would rate this restaurant with 6 stars. The food was out of this world and our server Dimas gave us the best service ever. He offered us excellent recommendations from the menu and he kept the dinner course coming on time. We were the last table left in the restaurant and we never felt rushed. We enjoyed such a fabulous dinner at Signature Restaurant to celebrate our 32nd wedding anniversary! We had a cute little table by the window. Everything was so lovely and absolutely delicious! Our favorite dish was the Chilean Sea Bass. But we were taken by suprise with the C h o c o l a t e A n a r c h y dessert. With triple chocolate, hazelnut, blood orange sorbet, it was the dill that made this dessert outstandingly brilliant! Staff spoiled us. We cant wait to go back with family and friends!

My girlfriend and I joined 4 other friends for brunch at this beautiful restaurant nestled in the La Cantera area. Valet service was impeccable and courteous. Entering, we were greeted by the manager and hostesses. They were extremely polite and friendly. The interior of Signature is a place even Martha Stewart would feel at home. Its is absolutely beautiful. The wait staff was literally the best I have ever experienced. I can tell the staff take their jobs very seriously. And now the food.. I am only discussing what I ordered, even though I did try a little of everything. The Quiche Lorraine with bacon & gruyere was literally the best quiche I have ever experienced. It even surpassed the homemade quiche my mother creates.. I just couldnt tell her. Just an incredible dining experience and I will never forget this place. Nicely done guys.

From start to finish this meal was incredible. From the beef tartar app to the axis steak and scallops every part of the meal was superb. The best part of the experience by far was our server Jacob he was extremely knowledgeable about the food, how it was prepared, what it paired with etc. my girl friend was asking him about becoming a Somalia and he took the time to write down the books he started with and the classes he took to get his level 1. I can t say enough good things about this guy. Even at the price point I m not sure you can find a better experience for the money.

We came here for a date night and it was amazing! Our waiter was so knowledgeable about the menu and matching things to our personal taste, it was such an amazing eating experience. Probably the best meal I ve had in San Antonio. Service was outstanding. I asked if a dish could be made without pecans. They asked if it was an allergy, and then they made sure nothing else I had came out with nuts. The Texas takes on dishes were fabulous, and I usually detest a traditional dish that has been Texaned. Drinks, food, service, all way above standard. Presentation was beautiful. The sorbet between meals reminded me of old school 80 s fine dining. Loved everything about it. Sunday brunch was the second time I have had the delightful pleasure of dining at Signature. I dont believe I have ever been to a restaurant that not only caters to the wishes of their diners but also provides nice little stools for ladies purses. I ordered a smoked salmon breakfast sandwich with dill cream cheese, onion, and capers. It was absolutely delicious. However, the non-alcoholic drink, Hello, Gorgeous was simply amazing.... Our family also ordered the fluffy Texas pancakes for the table. So Good and not to be missed! The service was impeccable, and the ambience - tasteful and beautiful and in Cantera. I miss San Antonio already!

First time having dinner there, the food was alright, but the service was bad and very poor management, discriminatory and unprofessional. If you are white and look like you have money you should be ok. Of course they judge you by theirs perspectives because they cant know who you are. In the present time, that should not be acceptable, especially from management. However, everyone is free to conduct business the way they want to, but if you think about visiting this place, i thought you might want to know.

I took my wife to celebrate our 23rd anniversary and had a fantastic experience. The atmosphere/setting is elegant but not stuffy. Service was excellent-friendly and professional. The food was on point. I only have one complaint or observation. I was on a date with my lady, our waiter basically only talked to her and she was feeling uncomfortable. We believe that it should be a balance. The waiters or waitresses should give 50 / 50 attention to all parties. It gave the impression of the guy was hitting on my girl. Their tag line should be our food is overly salted and undercooked. The food on the menu was uninspiring and left a lot to be desired. I was expecting to be blown away, but left underwhelmed and my wallet $300 lighter. The rabbit vol au vent was extremely salty and fell flat on its face. The risotto as many others said was excellent, but the carrots were charred yet still hard and under seasoned. Now the main course was scallops... The scallops were so salted that you could still see the salt crystals on top and the scallops were over cooked to the point of charred on top and stiff. This was accompanied by an endive that seemed to have been thrown into the fire and dressed with olive oil to make it shine and look more presentable, Kindof like your drunk Uncle who staggers into your grandmothers birthday party hammered, you know it shouldnt have been there. They also placed an overly dry and under seasoned piece of pork belly on the plate and again it should not have been there. I wouldnt waste my time on a menu that is behind in season and a chef who doesnt seem to care

Everything was delicious, but there was one dish in the appetizer section that made my night.... the fried oysters with caviar. One of my favorite dishes is fried oysters. I have had them near the beach, in upscale places, in moderate places, etc. This was by far, my favorite. I have peaked and I dont think I want to order them anywhere else. The service was excellent. The place felt akin to dining in a ski lodge. Loved watching the open kitchen at work. No dish shouted eat me now because youll never see these flavor combos again but the ones I choose didnt disappoint. One surprise were the sizes of the dishes - Gigantic (TX size?) portions! A salad is large enough to split 4 ways. I left half of my main dish which could have been enjoyed by 2+ people. Hope that feedback helps someone in the future not to waste the amount of food that our table did.

Meal was as expected, but eating at bar not a favorite of mine. Need for reservations makes last minute decision for brunch a questionable choice.

One word: DREAMY! This is one of the nicest, most beautiful and classy restaurants I have ever been to! My husband and I had a weekend getaway at La Cantera Resort. Sadly we weren t able to get a dinner reservation in time, but we did come here for AMAZING dessert after dinner! Oh my goodness.... this place is seriously amazing. I highly recommend you come at night when the place is all lit up and gorgeous. LOVED IT!
