I returned to this spot because I was craving mussels and was not disappointed. The mussels from PEI were fresh, large and succulent. I had two different orders of moules, Provençal and marinière, which were flavored perfectly. The accompanying frites were crispy, tasty, and perfectly salted. The accompanying ketchup and aioli complemented the frites. Food was served quickly and service was impeccable. The inside of the restaurant reminded me of a Belgium bistro. A worthwhile trip! I was very full and happy when I left. Parking: 12 spots in the restaurant parking lot. Remainder is street parking.

Late post on one of the participating restaurants for Restaurant Week! Take note of La Frite Belgian Bistro in January for the next round of Restaurant Week! It is one of the few participating restaurants where the dinner prix fixe menu is still $35. Many of the participating restaurants are at $45 or $55. Dad had the Lemonade, Hubby had the Cider, and I had the Halter Ranch Grenache Blanc. I chose the Restaurant Week menu which started with the Red Wine Poached Pear, the entree was the Red Snapper with jasmine rice and vegetables, and Chocolate Mousse. Hubby had the Salade de Fruit et Fromage and Confit de Canard (duck confit). Dad had the Crepe au Jambon et Fromage (crepe with ham and cheese). Everything was delicious! This place does fill up so make a reservation if you can. There is a private lot for parking but be early! Come check this place out!

Saturday reservation. Arrived at 745. 45 minutes for the appetizers to arrive and another 45 for dinner to arrive. Our main courses did not arrive till after 9pm. It was so loud we could not hear anyone at our table.. The escargot were basically in boiling butter with minimal garlic and spices. The crabmeat crepe tasted like very thick starchy white sauce that been in a crock pot all day. The hangar steak and the lamb shank were good but with heavy sauces. The pom Frits were like limp thicker fries. We passed on dessert since it was already so late and the heaviness of the meal.

The Steak was cooked to perfection, however it arrived at the table cold. I would have been better off ordering the cold cuts. There were five of us and all five plates of steak were cold. The waiter looked like he hadnt bathed in a week. If you must go to Frites be prepared for cold meat but dont hesitate to send it back. I would have done but it was a birthday celebration. Shame on Frites for even bringing it to the table.

This was our second time coming here. Things missed this time -we didn t get the complimentary bread and butter, I think last time we had to ask too. -kids pasta had no flavoring and no cheese or sauce and was $9 each. We ve been to many restaurants w kids pasta, never seen one without sauce and offered Parmesan cheese on top. I mean the I assume Belgians, like the French, love cheese on everything. This was a big miss. Adults had tenderloin, duck leg confit, pastry w seafood and pastry w chicken, a salad. These were flavorful and well done. Compliments to the chef who not only made tasteful food but presentation also excellent. Our waiter this time was not good. Quick tip when customers complain about food taking a long time to come to table, we are not looking to hear I did my job, I put your orders in or restaurant is full, all we want to hear is let me go check and see if I can expedite. Appreciate your patience. That s all. Customer service 101. The girl who got us waters and utensils was good, I asked for a lemonade for the kids, our waiter said they didn t have it but the girl asked and had it made for us. The lemonade was a bit watered down but we appreciated the effort very much!

Worst experience in a restaurant I ve ever had. I wish I could talk about the food but unfortunately I wasn t able to try any before leaving. I spent over an hour at my table before I gave up. I ordered an appetizer the famous mussels well after about 45-50 minutes my waiter tells me they have a new cook and the mussels may or may not be coming but don t worry you aren t getting charged. I was delighted to hear I wouldn t be charged for something I clearly wasn t getting! Watched as new tables were given other appetizers pretty quickly as I was waiting for my entree s at least, again for over an hour. This is the first restaurant I ve ever walked out of, also the first restaurant I ve gone inside spent an hour of my time inside and not eaten anything, thank you again, I will never return here!

Tonight, we had what might be our last meal at La Frite for a long time. Weve been coming here once every other month or so for the last 4 years and what an absolute treat it has been. Weve tried just about everything on the menu, and have never been disappointed. The specials are fantastic, in particular the pork chop and the duck cassoulet, which are to die for. We get mussels every time to start, and all the broth choices are unique and delicious. Most of all, seeing how the owners interact with the guests is like watching a family gathering. Its a warm community atmosphere that cant be beat, and Im so glad the restaurant survived its recent temporary closure. Thank you Miles and Icy for 4 wonderful years of cuisine, and thank you to all the staff who have made this vision happen. We hope to return someday!

Awesome steak (I d argue it s the best steak in San Antonio, amazing value for money, but even against the expensive places La Frite is top), clearly terrific Belgian beers, and the sort of friendly and efficient service you d hope for from a European style restaurant which is delivering an amazing dinner at a price which doesn t feel like a splurge. One of, if not, my favorite restaurants in San Antonio. I may be a bit biased because my wife and I visited some friends in Belgium a few years ago and fell in love with the bier and food. Every time we go here it reminds us of our trip. Whether you ve been to Belgium or not, this place is excellent. The Mussels (Bavarian w/bleu cheese Pesto ), frites, beer, and other food has always been top notch. We have had exceptional service at La Frite and I will never forget the time we came here for our anniversary a few years ago without a reservation. This place is small, cozy, warm and inviting. We walked in and the wait was pretty long and it was not looking like we were going to be able to enjoy our anniversary here. We mentioned it to the person taking our name. They could have told us, I m sorry, but make a reservation next time , which would have been an understandable and expected response. Did they say that? No they pointed to a small area at the end of the bar/register area and said we could make a table for you here if you don t mind sitting here. We happily accepted and had a wonderful anniversary. We now make a reservation any time we go!

My husband found this fantastic bistro for a date yesterday. He got the beef bourgignon which was very tasty. The pasta seemed fresh made and very thin. It was perfect. The veggies were perfectly cooked to leave some snap/crunch. I got the most amazing duck breast. I had no idea duck was supposed to taste so good. It wasnt gamey like Ive had in the past. They cook it medium rare, but Alex, the maitre D, suggested I get it between medium rare and medium, which made it absolutely perfect for me. The texture and tenderness was like a filet mignon. And the raspberry reduction was a nice sweet compliment to the duck. I forgot to take a picture of the muscles and fries appetizer. We shared the white wine with cream and garlic muscles. It was so good. My husband got the beet salad and thoroughly enjoyed it. Were not sure if it was goat cheese on the salad, but if it was, it was the creamiest goat cheese weve ever had and delightfully subtle. Im not sure if the chef forgot to toss the salad with any dressing or dress the beets with a balsamic reduction, but it was definitely better when Alex brought us the fresh and tasty creamy vinaigrette and balsamic reduction to put on the salad. For dessert we shared the raspberry marscapone which was so light and creamy. Have never had marscapone before, but this was a perfect finish to our meal. I forgot to take a picture of the dessert before we dug into it, so youll see a few bites out of it. I took a picture of their wreath, because my daughter wants a wreath and she loves wine. She thought it would be hilarious if we were to put that on her front door.

I spent a lot of years traveling through Belgium. I enjoy the food in the French and German parts. We visited La Frite and stopped in for dinner. We made a reservation a few hours ahead of time. The restaurant does remind me of a place off of the square in Brussels. The interior had three sections. We felt like we were in Brussels. Very quaint and comfortable. The service was just the best. Everyone was attentive and asking us what we needed. We shared an appetizer of mussels and fries. Even the lady tried the mussels which surprised me. We had extra bread to dip into the cream wine sauce. The fries, were a bit floppy and dark. The mayo-herb sauce was really outstanding. We had a green salad and Caesars salad, both good. The lady had sliced duck which was cooked perfectly. The son had trout which had a nice soft crust. I was going to get coco vin, but for some reason, had the curry lamp shank. It was good but didnt seem to go with the rest of the Euro-vibe. We shared an apple pear tart - not to sweet and delicious. We had a great time and will be back the next time we visit San Antonio.

Our wait staff and host were very patient in answering any questions we had about the menu, since we had never eaten here. The table next to us was obnoxiously loud. 4 Karens from that party burst out laughing in high pitch so many times, totally not aware there other people having dinner too. even my toddler wanted to tell them, inside voice! Owner was sitting with them drinking, I guess they are house guests. No wonder after I complained to our waiter, he pretended not hearing anything and didn t say a word. No joke. I came out of the restaurant feeling the same as coming out of a rock concert. Noise level at this place is absolutely unacceptable. Will not come back.

The only reason Im no longer a regular is because Ive moved out of state. Ill be visiting La Frite Belgian every time Im in San Antonio.

We just recently moved to SA and this is BY FAR, HANDS DOWN, the BEST restaurant Ive been to yet!!! We ordered the mussels w fries, new England clam chowder, rack of lamb, ham/cheese/mushroom crepe, chicken puff pastry and chocolate mousse. All were to die for!!! Customer service was excellent, they were so friendly and accommodating, even offered to make an off-the menu item for kiddoes. This will definitely be our go-to spot for bringing visiting fam and friends!!!! Meant to take more pics, but were too busy stuffing our face!!

So, the food is great, the atmosphere is solid. Just the right mix of fancy and casual. I really like this place and would have given a great review, but... after the table next to me and my girlfriend left, someone came over to clean it, and did so by blasting Windex on the wooden table (which, Windex?) and hit our food. Even if he hadnt hit our food, we were smelling Windex for the next few minutes, which is not appetizing at all. That ruined the meal for my girlfriend, because of course it did. I think if I spend $120 on a dinner, we get to not have Windex in our food. Who on this planet uses aerosols to clean tables with guests around?!

We have always enjoyed going to La La Frite. We made reservations 2 or 3 weeks ago to celebrate my husbands birthday. We had requested a table by the window. We walked it last nite and they told us to sit without asking our names. The oinion tart was burnt at the base and the service was slow. Unknown to us, a friend had called them and ordered a birthday desert and asked them to surprise us and I witnessed them sending this beautiful decorated desert to another table. They never verified who we were or acknowledged our reservation and so didnt know who the desert was for..It was such a disappointment experience made even worse when my friend called this morning and I had no idea that they had paid for the desert surprise. It was a very disappointing dinner experience.

My husband has been wanting to go here so bad so he was super excited to go for his birthday. We arrive and are seated right away but after 10mins we still had no drinks, not even water. We had to track down another worker to get waters which he brought room temp. Our 3rd person was running late so we placed our order before she arrived. When she arrived they took her drink and food order, next thing we know her food arrives but not ours. We wait again but still no food or update. We looked to the kitchen and they were cleaning, the owners son grabs food off of the plate that had been sitting in the window as he looks over and sees we still have no food. From there they realize they missed half our order and he had eating off the other half. The waiter said they would make the food but we found unfair to the kitchen staff who had already cleaned, so we denied and asked for the check. The waiter came back to apologize and offer to cover the bill, which we appreciated but the e fitment had already beenruined. The owners son tried to make things right but he was very very clearly upset. And the female owner did not even bother to address us. Not a single word she never checked on us while there, just our 3rd party and everyone else around. Very unfortunate situation after such a built up of excitement to experience their unique foods.

This place has gone down hill. The food tasted horrendous and service was terrible. I would NEVER go here again. My mussels tasted very gritty and half of them were shut. The soup of the day was carrot soup and it tasted like it came straight from a can and popped into a microwave. Just DISGUSTING. I spent $52.00 on dinner and left very disappointed. If you re looking for a romantic spot and wanting to eat mussels, I HIGHLY recommend Julia s Bistro & Bar on Blanco. Their food is tastier, the bathrooms and restaurant is cleaner, and you get better service!! Plus, you get more bang for you buck.

Entered the restaurant at 7:45. They brought out the mussels fairly fast. But my other appetizer came out at 9:15!!! Then another twenty minutes for the entrees. Overall spent 2 hrs waiting for food, which in my opinion was worth the wait because it was fresh and delicious. But if you lost our ticket or know there is a back up in the kitchen you should let your table know and offer bread or something. If we were anyone else we probably would have left because the wait was so long.

My family and I have been going to La Frite for 15+ years and have loved the mussels. Tonight, the restaurant was crowded. The service was slow, but not unexpected, given it was a Friday night, and Covid makes hiring difficult. The mussels we ordered were dry and overcooked. I seldom send back food, but I did tonight. The replacement was somewhat better but not up to previous standards. Because of past GOOD experiences, I would go again on a non-weekend. If no better, I would not go again.

The Steak Diane was terrific, and my wife had the Crepes Au Crab, and both were truly great. We caped it with the Chocolate Mousse, and it was a perfect dessert to close out on. And finally, the prices are well below what you would expect. About the same as a date night at Outback, or Olive Garden, but with good food!

Beautiful little bistro with fantastic food right on the edge of downtown. Parking can be difficult but it s worth the trip. We have tried the mussels marimieres which are amazingly delicious! Any of their plates are delicious but a couple of my recommendations are the vol-au-vent with seafood, spaghetti carbonara & poulet picatta. The desserts are delightful so save some room for them. Floating island is basically meringue on créme anglaise, sweet and delicate. Their créme brûlée is also a great choice and was perfectly prepared. Enjoy!
