The three of us in our 40 s were out to try an old fashion from this establishment and come to find out that the dress code that s never been enforced before is being enforced now. Which is ok considering I was in a t shirt, Levi s and cowboy boots, my wife was dressed to impress and our friend was in his golf attire which is acceptable in some of the most higher end bars , mixology , taverns or whatever anyone what s to call it. So security said that we couldn t come in because our friend was in shorts and his shirt had a sport emblem on it but then security asked to wait because usually the manager will allow it to slide because they re mostly suppose to be trying to keep the trouble out by that policy since clearly the clothing are expensive and in well kept order. So once the manager came up he said we looked to relax and couldn t come in. I asked him what kind of business plan is that where you profile people by what they wear and then pass judgement on whether their money is less valuable then the other customers. We wished them the best of luck since they believe they re making enough money in order to refuse business owners like ourselves entrance in their bar. We will not visit this place any longer regardless of being regular customers. And now I m being asked to email the business in hopes that other people will look at my review while believing the company is actually trying to address this problem. What are they going to do? We already had to change our plans because the manager thought my friends clothes were to relaxed when in reality my friends shirt costs more than the managers entire outfit. The company is going to fix anything and just wastes my time. Visitors beware!

Be prepared to deal with the selective dress code roulette of whether you know the management and/or how racist they are feeling at the door that day, if youre lucky enough to make your way inside be prepared to be aurally assaulted by the DJ who has 0 volume control inside a 700 sq foot basement space while you try to parse whats happening without bleeding from your eardrums.

Never again going to this place again. The Venezuelan owner is nothing but rude and discriminatory. The bouncers that request the ID at the entrance are WORST. A girl friend of mine got roofied in this establishment. Bartenders take your order whenever they want, literally have to beg for a drink. Bottle service is a 6/10, the girls do not give a good service.

This is not your typical speak-easy. Specialty drinks yes, but not a piano music, chill vibe scene. On the weekends this place is an every night rave house, packed with college kids with no manners. The bouncer outside was hilariously wack. Groups of young girls would go up front and get in without having to wait in the long line. When we asked the bouncer if we could skip the line and why them? He laughed and said because I can do what I want. Waited in line for 40 minutes while groups continued to jump the line ahead. Ended up standing next to a young girl whose party was inside. She had her boyfriend come get us from the line outside. Once inside, we were packed in like sardines. Thankfully the security women kicked two men out for dress code violation and made a walk way for us to get to the bar. Thank goodness dress code is enforced. The gentleman in the pics below deserves a raise or be given a better hourly pay for his knowledge of drinks and beautiful drink presentation. Drinks were actually good and reasonable priced. For being in a basement packed with over 100+ people we felt safe, only for the fact that the female security guard continued to watch the crowds and got onto people for acting up. Not a place for married, grown people over 30. Unable to make conversation with your party due to the extremely loud music. We had our two drinks and left.

Went here for the first time and the bartender was a snooty mf. According to other reviews they don t have the best service but management should definitely speak to them about etiquette. This isn t even that upscale, it seems like a bunch of thrift store furniture and nice lights.

Entering the place was great. Music was great, but when my friend and I tried to get a drink. We were not only ignored, but passed over three times over. Some people around us that barely got to the bar were served before us. When we asked if we could get a drink, we were told to wait. Not in a nice way, but kinda rude. Definitely not coming back. Not sure why the bartenders decided to ignore us, and pay more attention to others.

The drinks are fun, inventive, and delicious! Bringing a touch of El Bulli to Texas is pretty cool. Atmosphere is pretty dope, well happily be back. Service is great as well! We did come around 6:30pm midweek so it was not too busy.

Atmosphere is great, bartenders are awesome, menu is good. My only complaint are the bouncers at the door, they re so picky and it differs from night to night. I go in one weekend and everything is fine and go back a different weekend wearing the same outfit and they reject me at the door. They have no continuity or consistency with the supposedly dress code they re enforcing. It s frustrating that I can show up and get in one night and not the next depending on who s at the door flexing their authority . Are they security or are they judges for a popularity contest.

They didn t let me int because of my Dennis Rodman shirt. I got scared at 13th floors, are you kidding me? You ve got me be joking me, this guy thought I was wearing a Michael Jordan Shirt, buddy I m wearing a Dennis Rodman shirt. As far as dungeon bars go, it was a hit. There is security outside, so be ready for a bag search and/or pat down. The drinks were strong, it doesnt get crowded until midnight or so. Its a neat spot, upper middle class crowd in their 30s and 40s.

We enjoyed a few cocktails at Cellar after dinner at Toro. Plenty of complex drink offerings in their bound menu. Its a solid read so maybe review online prior to arriving. Due to the crowd, it was a little challenging to get served but the mixologists were working fast.

Cool spot if you wanna pay 100 for a table. If not plan on standing by the bar with no room to walk. My friends and I were There for 3 mins then left. Also save your copy and paste response. Located under TORO is the Cellar Mixology Bar and I must say it is too cool. The drinks are fantastic and amazingly made with a special flair and technique. There are some 4 or 5 bartenders working at any given time and around 10 PM the DJ sets up. If you are coming later it is imperative to make reservations for a table. If you are the early crowd then enjoy sitting at the bar or a table that is open. Also, try the spoon shots which take a minute to prepare, but are worth the wait. Highly recommended!

Cool place. Very loud though so if you want to have conversations, you need to go outside. It wasn t too packed. We went on a Thursday night. They literally have a drink menu book! Who wants to read a novel at a bar? So I ordered a cherry vodka sour and it was the best $9 I spent on a simple cherry vodka sour. It is pricey and over the top but if you re looking for bougie sophisticated vibe with cool music, then I d recommend it. Bring some heavy cash though. Dress code was enforced but I felt safe and I like standards that are being met. Made the place high class, however the AC needed to be turned up cuz it was hot. The best thing I enjoyed from my visit was the awesome lady and man playing. She sang the best songs. I felt like I was at a concert. They were amazing. I d love to see them again. I wish I would ve gotten their information.

You go here for the experience, and the drinks are included. I have been to many New York speakeasys, and this right up there with the best! The entrance is hidden in a restaurant above or through a side door on the street. Once you make it down to the Cellar, you will not be disappointed. The mixologists are all friendly and knowledgeable about their craft. They create a drink with style and ease. The drinks were all some of the best I have ever had. I would definitely go back if I am in the area!

**Update: 1/30/23** No one ever reached out from Cellar to resolve the issue with Francesca and her inappropriate behavior. I reached out to customer service on 1/15/23 via email (as I was advised to do), so far it has been 15 days and still no contact has been made to correct this matter involving Francesca. This is an extremely poor reflection of this business, I still would not recommend this bar to anyone. Do better Cellar. 1/15/23: If I could leave no stars I would. The manager Francesca, is extremely rude and was disrespectful. She was pushing people in the crowd and was pushing furniture into people to try to make space. When Francesca walked by me, SHE bumped into me, and acted as if I assaulted her. She pointed her fingers in my face and was shouting at me. She kicked me and my group of friends out of the bar (on my wedding night I might add). When I spoke with security, even he confirmed she finds the smallest reasons to throw people out so she can bring in her own friends . I would be be very wary upon entering this bar and the manager Francesca (she has big black glasses and long hair), Francesca uses her very small amount of power to throw people out of the bar and verbally/physically assault paying customers.

Place is great but has flaws that can be fix .. like music was too loud especially for the size of the basement Its too loud to the point that talking to someone in their ears doesn t do the job. Your ear will be in pain and ringing once you leave the place. DJ was playing good music but not the best in mixing music especially because because of how loud it was. I had a table reserve and they will respect that and let your friends in even if there s a line. Bottles prices are reasonable. Overall I rate it a 3 star, and would go again if the music problem gets fixed.

Reserved a section for my birthday last night, and a handful of my guests were turned away for dress code (male/females) I understand having a dress code, but if your security is not going to be consistent across the board is where I have a problem. My cousin couldn t attend my party because he was turned away for having ripped jeans, but they allowed another person in our party with ripped jeans and told him I ll allow it this one time Then their entitled security guard got super rude with my brother, shined his little flashlight in his face and kicked him out?! We were minding our business the whole night and even allowed them to take one of our tables so another party can be right next to us. I m glad the 2 bottles I purchased and 12 people we had were done with our drinks. We closed out and took our party to Lily s where we had so much more fun there! The Dj was so much better and we could actually hear each other talk. Really don t think I d go back to Cellar again after only being there a couple of times.

So the 40minutes have passed and he decides to shout-out the dress code . Couldn t he have informed US ALL that there was some type of dress code . Instead of wasting our time. I came here for my boyfriends and I anniversary and was really excited to bring him as I had been here many times before. I was very disappointed for the service. Usually the bartenders are outstanding to everyone but this guy was so rude and barely attended to us. We sat at the bar for almost 20 minutes before he even acknowledged us. Also when we ordered our drinks he forgot which one my boyfriend had asked for so he came back. On our second round he made my boyfriends drink incomplete, we asked for La Paloma and didn t add the liquid nitrogen sorbet even after we asked him. I don t mind paying $15-$20 for a drink but if I m paying that much I would like it made right no matter how busy it is. I was just very disappointed overall with the service.

I love Cellar! It s my favorite place to go out and I know I m always going to have a great time. Everyone who works there is incredible and the service is top notch! Savannah, Vanessa, James, and Gio are so incredibly sweet and attentive. Franchesca and Erich always take really great care of us and I always feel safe and taken care of. The music is also amazing. Okay if you planning to go out in San Antonio, do not miss the chance to come here. This underground bar is probably one of the best places to have a unforgettable night. The drinks are fantastic. First time coming and a line of less than 20 people was not moving. Only people who knew someone that worked there could go in. Other than that, we waited almost 30 minutes in line. Security did not budge just stood there talking amongst each other. Not even actual popular clubs take this long to check ID s. I ve visited this establishment three times prior in the past, tonight when I attempted to visit for a friends birthday I was met with new unposted establishment changes. There were two gentleman in a roped off square in front of the door and no line. The first gentleman spoke to me and then proceeded to open the rope after viewing my ID to let me in. The second gentleman then proceed to inform me that I was actually unable to come in due to my sandals did NOT have a small heel to them and the only time they allow sandals to be worn in are with a heel. Mind you, I was wearing Steve Madden Starie sandals which are not flat on the bottom so technically met the standards the door man stated. There were no signs posted on the establishment, the website or even outside of the ropes that stated sandals were not allowed. I had just come from an event across town prior to meeting friends here for a birthday celebration, in the event this dress code was enforced I could have stopped at home to change shoes instead of paying $20 for parking and then not being allowed inside the establishment. Instead of fighting them on this rule l informed my party of 6 that was already inside that I was unable to get in. After explaining why I was unable to get in, one of the people in my party informed me there was actually a person inside the bar with flip flops on! So it appears that this dress code they informed me of actually only applies to certain people so I would be cautious if thinking of going to this bar in the event they change their dress code on the night you attend.

Came here for our 10 year wedding anniversary on a Wednesday. My husband made a reservation, but we were able to just walk right in and there were plenty of tables and seats at the bar. There was no secret door, so maybe that s just for the weekend? The service was excellent though and the drinks were very good. Will have to try it out again.

Cellar is my go to every Friday night! I love going there and I plan on celebrating my birthday there in two weeks. Their drinks are amazing, the bartenders are so lovely & take good care of you. Yesterday we were celebrating my friend s birthday. My friend, the birthday girl, approached a hostess with glasses, who we later found out was the manager and asked for an available table. The hostess (which was a lady with glasses) responded , body shaming my friend by responding no gordis in Spanish. Which roughly means no chubby . This response was completely unprovoked and took my friend completely by surprise. It s a shame that we could not enjoy a nice night out without my friend being body shamed like this.

I first came to Cellar Mixology when I took and Airbnb experience cocktail class there last year and have been back several times. This historical speakeasy bar is hidden inside Toro restaurant. Nearby, there is $20 valet parking at Espee but much cheaper pay parking across Commerce on N Hoefgen Ave. The bartenders are friendly and trained in advanced molecular cocktail techniques such as using liquid nitrogen, smoke and spherification to make creative, high quality cocktails. I prefer a relaxed vibe so usually go between 5-7 pm because later at night it becomes more of a energetic night club. Loved this place back in December went twice however over the last months it has become a high demand. Therefore, they only let you in until ALL the people from the reserved tables are there which is ridiculous. The first time I waited in line almost 2 hrs and the second time for 1 hr never got in. We also arrived earlier and we still waited for over an hour. Although the music is great it is not worth it. The manager Francesca is also very rude and unpleasant. Their customer service is awful. I will not be going back which is very unfortunate since this place has great potential.

This place was so uncomfortably hot because they stuff it to the max and don t realize it s a small basement. The heat enhances the smell of the dirty restroom and it fills the air throughout the entire bar. Not a great experience at all for how fancy it s trying to be.

6 well-mannered and dressed customers between the ages of 35-45 leave Toro to have a cocktail here. All have been here before. Men are dressed with collared shirts and khaki shorts IN THE MIDDLE OF SUMMER. Your two jerks of security were absolutely high on themselves the ladies can come in but the guys ABSOLUTELY CANNOT. Unreal. Continue your pretentiousness like this in San Antonio and people will just go have fun in Austin. Shame for treating people that way. Won t be back. And watch out for woke culture as some of the comments by your security could have interpreted as discrimination. I would encourage not enforcing a strict dress code in today s world.

The music is great. There is a high demand for this place, however, if you don t have a reservation you are treated horrible by Francesca their manager . Francesca has no manners and looks down on you for no reason. I will never be back, which is a shame because the place has potential but their customer service doesn t even make worth the drive. This place has so much potential, great atmosphere, good mixologist, and good selection of liquors. However, they need to put an age limit, too many 21 yos that do not know how to act. Music was good but way too loud. On two occasions they had to drag two females out for being overly intoxicated (EMS was called). Bottom line, I guess Im getting old (30s), but this place is so cool, ruined by overly drunk young 20 year olds. They have all the UTSA bars, let the grown folks enjoy Cellar Mixology.

I always loved this place for its drinks and good music, always introduced this place to everyone. Unfortunately, I visited 2 weeks ago and I was some kind disappointed. The music was so loud that my partner and I had to get out after 20 minutes in because our ears started to hurt a lot, the music was much louder than other occasions, we recovered our full hearing an hour after getting out or so. (we even waited 30 minutes in line, no complaints, we really liked this place and we understand when it gets packed) My partner works in music and we cannot afford to lose our hearing. Hoping Cellar can fix this and we can all enjoy safely.

We went on Thursday for a friends birthday, and I wanna say that it s was an incredible experience, the ambience and the music were great, the bartenders were giving the best of them, the manager Francesca was another level she helped us throughout the night, make us feel welcome, she is super kind and lovely. The bar itself is so unique, but the hidden doorway was completely locked, had to enter on the street where we got patted down by a cop before entering. The drinks are so cool and different, but with the extremely loud music we couldn t talk to each other. We made a reservation online and paid a fee only to get bar seating. It was almost empty and no one was sitting at the tables, so we sat there regardless. If you want an actual table you have to call the bar manager. Interesting set up but in the end, not worth it

Won t let in anyone with ripped jeans. The manager, Francesca, extremely stuck up. Wouldn t even look my friend and I in the face when she looked at our pants. Specifically said, I can see your knees , am I supposed to be Amish?! Turned away 6 other people while we were also there. 2 of the girls they wouldn t let in were dressed to the nines (heels, the whole nine yards).

Nice tucked away speakeasy, in an old historic building, with a dj that plays modern music. The staff was very friendly, clean cut and talkative when slower (they do get packed so you may not get that interaction if you show up after 930). Showmanship was a big part of the mixology experience whether it was smoke old fashions or nitrogen chilled glasses.They were nice enough to pour our party a complimentary shot of passion fruit vodka. They have bottle service but with that said seating, aside from the bar, accommodates that. If you want food youll have to get it upstairs from Toro. Get there before 1000 if you want to avoid a line.

Went to Cellar Mixology for my anniversary date night. The bartenders were all very courteous when explaining their eclectic drink menu. The drinks were amazing and different than your normal bar. The use of elderflower, liquid nitrogen and cotton candy are unique! Definitely will visit again.

This place is AWESOME! We were visiting family in San Antonio from Chicago for my birthday and were looking for a cool place for drinks. We were very happy we stopped by! This place has friendly service and they were happy to explain any questions about drinks, the drinks were delicious, and the prices were very reasonable! We were expecting them to be pricey bc all the drinks are really unique, but they were very reasonable and they didn t charge our DD s for non-alcoholic drinks which was really nice. We will definitely be back if we ever are back in San Antonio!

Made a reservation for my boyfriends birthday. Arrived and was told I would need to purchase bottle service for a table. I was told they tried to contact me earlier that day. I did not receive a phone call. Even if they did why wouldnt you tell me about this policy earlier not the day of. I was never told about this policy until we arrived. I paid for the service only because plans were already made for friends to meet us there. We were hoping to order drinks from the bar but after paying 180 for a bottle of vodka we passed.

Let me tell you all how this is. This place try s to act boujee in a basement there drinks are expensive and terrible. They don t have bottled beers. Most of the crowd here is all foreign spoiled kids aka frescas. If you know Franchesca ( who thinks she s the baddest but she ain t) you get in right away but if you don t then you have to wait outside. The music is good but the atmosphere wasn t.

I just wish they maintained the place! It was awesome when it opened & now wires from the wall decor are as if its a pre-teens bedroom: lighting wires to their battery box just running across the wall tangled up or hanging down just as exposed as the light itself. Paint touchups badly needed. Makes me wonder how that obvious lack of care is translated in the cleaning of glasses or the perishable ingredients in our drinks. Now its kinda a grunge bar instead of somewhere I could still take colleagues to party out their stress.

I made a reservation for my moms s birthday because. I thought the place was cool and thought she would really like it. I got there at about 9:30 and my reservation was at 9:45 and we stood there looking out of place for a minute then Franchesa came up to us like we didn t belong there so I told her that I had a reservation and showed her the email and everything she shook her head no that she wasn t gone seat us she didn t even try to figure out what the miscommunication was!! Its a fun place to visit or take a date. The drinks themselves ranged from solid to mediocre, but youre going for the environment and the show. The place itself is really cool. The bar is downstairs with modern decorations and an optional secret entrance. Drinks are generally 12-14 dollars. A portion of the cost youre paying is the flashy way they prepare drinks; I didnt get to try the whole menu but what I tried fell slightly short for their costs compared to other places in SA. Overall, fun place with cool decorations and ok drinks.
