On Saturday, April 27th I was recommended Blue Box by the concierge at Hotel Emma, as I was in town for a conference and wanted to enjoy some cocktails with friends and colleagues in the area. We collectively decided to end our night at Blue Box per the recommendation. There were four of us, 3 females and 1 male. Towards the end of the night at closing time, we closed our tabs and decided to use the facilities before we left the venue. As we begin leaving the restroom, washing our hands and waiting for the group to exit the restroom all together, the bouncer, a black gentleman aggressively swung open the restroom door, hitting my friend in the process on the right side of her body as she was close to the doorway, and began shouting at us at the tops of his lungs unreasonably and irradically GET THE F*** OUT!!! GET THE F*** OUT!! His tone was completely uncalled for and out of line! I have never had that kind of interface with a bar staff in my entire life! As we began all leaving, the bouncer and the bartenders all collectively shout at us until we walked out of the bar. There was absolutely NO reason for that kind of treatment!! Being a former bartender myself in my twenties, I understand that there are certain protocols to abide by in order to usher patrons out of a bar after it closes. The bouncer did not even knock on the restroom door, did not even assess how we were acting to determine how to address us (and we were FAR FROM belligerent), and just shouts at the tops of his lungs at coherent customers with an inappropriate tone and use of language in order to get us out. This man was completely OUT OF LINE! The type of behavior that you would least expect in a bar in an upscale location. Based off of this situation, I would not put it past this individual to have a pattern of extreme irradic behavior. And especially directed to three young and very classy ladies, Im absolutely disappointed and disgusted with this behavior. Never in my life have I been treated with such disrespect. I DO NOT recommend this place, I did not feel safe in the end and clearly the space is unpredictable. Unless there is a change in management, I do NOT recommend.

Be wary of going to this bar. Purchased a total of 3 drinks of frozen espresso for myself and a friend. Tipped the bartender $10. Checked my card just charged $158. They wrote in 1 infront of my 10 and attempted charging me $110 tip. To the owner, it was 2 guys were working Sunday night, so it was one of the two that is representing this business as a thief

Nowhere near enough chairs for the tables. Multiple members of staff were quite rude. Would not recommend and will not go back. One member of our party went to the bar with a drink order. The bar tender seemed to have trouble hearing her, so she showed him her phone with the list of drinks and was given an eye roll in response. After most of the drinks were made, he informed her that they did not have one of the alcohols needed for her mixed drink. She attempted to suggest an alternative and was told she would have to go to the back of the line to get it. We brought some chairs from the patio inside to our table, only to be told by a staff member that that type of chair was for bar use only and have him take those chairs away. As we were leaving, we decided to leave through the patio rather than try to squeeze through the crowded bar area to leave through the front. We side stepped the barrier they had in front of the patio exit. A staff member moved out it of the way for us. I gave a polite thank you and he rudely snapped back with a next time go through the front like everybody else. I can understand preferring to have customers use a specific exit, but there was no need to be so rude about it.

Very cool place. There was a nice crowd, not too packed. The upstairs was roped off. So, Im not sure how much space was up there. However, I noticed only a few chairs at the bar. Great place to go on a date or out with friends. Not too noisy. No loud music. I only had a drink to end my night. Parking: The parking garage is free under 2 hours in the garage if you cant find parking elsewhere.

Rudest service I ve ever received. Came in alone stood at the bar in front of the bartender he never said a word. Female bartender comes right in front of me with a shot. Stands there a minute, takes it, then looks at me and says, has he helped you? I say no. LIVELY BAR, I would say. Met with a friend and decided to visit Blue Box late afternoon on a Sunday. We had a great time. The Old Fashioned(s) I ordered were made by Jacob - I requested and specified how I d prefer my Old Fashioned and he excelled. The only downside to this visit was the music being overly loud so having a conversation felt more like trying to get your voice from one room to the other which is quite funny, but seriously!

Ive been coming to this place for a few months now. The music ranges from 80s to current. The DJ is nice and the female bartenders are wonderful. Now here are my issues. Two weeks ago, a woman who was extremely intoxicated was almost taken home by a man who was quite aware of her intoxication. She kept buying herself drinks and the gentleman kept buying her drinks too. The bar never cut either one of them off. It wasnt until I spoke to a bartender (female, because the male bartender was the one who kept supplying the woman more alcohol) that he was making the woman uncomfortable that any one finally intervened. Although we thought the man left, the man ended up returning and still trying to take the woman home after she repeatedly said she wasnt going home with him and felt unsafe. A security personnel came up to the gentleman and politely said I thought we kicked you out already. This was incredibly concerning because it suggested staff was negligent in watching the doors and protecting the woman and honestly all the patrons of the bar. I waited with the woman for almost an hour until her Uber arrived but she said the address she was going to wasnt safe and her husband was going to hurt her. The staff said they are legally obligated to care for her and that I didnt have to stay but they left her alone on the outside patio multiple times. Police werent called by the staff and they put her in the Uber anyway, despite her cries to want to go somewhere else. Once she did eventually leave the female bartenders thanked me for assisting. The men however werent as friendly to me. I came back multiple times to complain (I was told to return by security to speak to the manager). Yesterday I came for the fourth time since the incident and they told me yet again no manager was on duty. Im aware there has to be some one acting as manager at all times in a licensed bar that serves alcohol. I told the bartender Im still waiting to speak to the manger, its been two weeks, to which the bartender began putting his hands on hips and mocking me, speaking in an exaggerated feminine voice (Im visibly queer). Then he called over the same security guard who told me to come back and that same security officer said to me I have a serious question for you, are you retarded? Overall, The homophobia is clear, the name calling especially a term like retarded is super inappropriate, but above all, a woman was not kept safe in their establishment and the patrons of the bar are not protected. Yesterday I went outside on the patio multiple times and it turned out, security was no where to be found on multiple occasions to check IDs. Im concerned for the safety of the entire community, particularly those in the LGBTQIA community, those who are differentially abled, and especially women.

Literally the worse experience I ve ever had. We spent so much money there after a wedding and at first, the bartenders were only just rude, but we live in Austin so we re patient with busy service industry places. This was beyond the worst thing I ve ever experienced. The bartenders are literally the most aggressive, disrespectful people we ve ever encountered. They allowed a patron friend of theirs to verbally assault everyone in our party. We literally had 60-year-olds hanging out trying to have fun and they stood around laughing while insults and literal physical threats were thrown out at us. I don t understand how they re still open and function with the incredibly horrible level of service we received. Apparently they promote and encourage violence to resolve customer disputes. Glad to know Blue Box takes really good care of their paying customers.

Unfortunately, I thought this was a nice place to hang out with friends until the bartender pushed me tonight. At first, I thought it was an accident until he did it a second and yelled at me and said I couldn t be standing in the doorway( the entrance to the bar). No one heard him; we were trying to order a drink. The bartender was so disrespectful. The other bartender, his coworker, intervened and bought our drinks because he felt terrible. I got my drink and sat down; the situation bothered me so much that I went up to the bartender later and said, you know, I didn t appreciate you pushing me like that. If you had said excuse me, I would have gladly moved out of your way. The bartender immediately turns to security and says, get them out of here. Then he said, You probably didn t hear me because you were drinking! That would have been my first drink. I felt so disrespected, and this was my first time here. I don t write reviews, but this is heartfelt. Come to find out, the bartender is the owner.

So this was an interesting bar because it has a great vibe and atmosphere but terrible drinks. Ill be splitting this review into 3 sections: Drinks, Atmosphere, and the Staff. Drinks: Not great at all. I ordered the Could Be Yum or something with Yum in the name and it didnt really have a lot of flavor too it. It was a gin based drink with cucumber, lime, mint, and something else in it. All I tasted was a watered down minty gin drink. No Cucumber, no lime, and no other ingredient. Pardon me for forgetting the ingredient. Pricing was definitely overrated too for the drinks. $8 dollar cocktail at most. Atmosphere: Gorgeous. Literally a blue box. It matches the title, the vibe was smooth and calming, nothing crazy. I really enjoyed the music, the blue lighting, and the calm environment. The bar had a moderate amount of people too. Staff: Very friendly, very professional, and very engaging. All of them were nice to talk to and responsible. They noticed a broken glass and didnt made sure no one drank from that glass and that it wasnt used to make cocktails. Overall great staff. Summary: I would absolutely come back if they were able to make the quality drinks worth the $11.

We walked in and got carded. Ordered a drink, and then the bouncer said we couldnt be served. The bouncer stated we couldnt be in the bar because we got kicked out of the bar we were just at. I told him we were just at Boiler, which closed and you could talk to the Boiler bartender and confirm we were NOT kicked out. He had the wrong group. I tried the Daiquiri from the happy hour menu and my husband tried the King Ghidorah. The bartender happened to be the one who invited the drink, King Ghidorah. We both enjoyed our drinks. Definitely a good stop, now that I know where it s located.

Found this place on our way out of The Pearl, decided to check it out. Had a couple Old Fashioneds. Whiskey selection was excellent, some harder to find bottles. Atmosphere was great, mellow yet enjoyable. Worth checking out, whether its an after-work drink or an evening out. Definitely returning for future drinks.

On weekends don t come. You could stand in line for 15-30 minutes and the bouncer lets people cut in front you who he knows. So watch out, you don t know the bouncer, you will wait in line. Oh, time and date: 6/5 11:15pm. We LOVE all the Mahoney bars but This one was a let down.

The ambience, drinks, and service were great. The bouncer explained the rules for social distancing when we walked in, all the employees were wearing masks, and there was hand sanitizer available at the door. The margarita and old fashioned were very well-made and reasonably priced. We sat outside and there is a view of Hotel Emma and the road leading to it. Liked: drinks, service, ambience

Very good whiskey selection. Any Cocktail drink you want they will make. Service was very good. Atmosphere was great and they have an outside patio in front where you can enjoy your drink and cigar or cigarette. Cant stress enough how great the service and atmosphere was. The only complaint I have was the restroom. They were pretty clean excerpt for one urinal that somebody had threw up in and it was never cleaned up even after I let a member of the staff know and showed him.

Their board with signature cocktails was empty tonight. I though the bartenders were mixologists. I asked a bartender who has been here for at least a year to create something for us. Turns out without a playbook for him to follow anything other than a Moscow Mule or Greyhound is out of his league..great place when they have a menu to follow..otherwise expect the average.
