Wonderful ambience, service, and the best waffle Ive ever eaten! Good chicken sausages too. Husband ordered biscuits and gravy and loved it! We walked 40 minutes to get there from our hotel and it was totally worth it! Our server was exceptional.

The food was good. However, stay away from the chicken and waffles if youre not expecting the chicken to be tenders. The chicken tenders were highly breaded. I still give 5 stars because the waffles were spectacularly delicious!!!! In addition, the strawberry lemonade had fresh strawberries in it. The location was great as well.

came here saturday morning with my woman and we waiting almost 20 minutes to be seated , meanwhile we looked around which there was not much to look at , most items overpriced not worth buying .. tried the banana bread and it was dry and not moist at all wasn t worth it .. the museum was barely anything to see more of a shop than a museum .. my lady also got a coffee and that wasn t even all that either, the food was okay mediocre breakfast not special about it other than being some some rich persons house which i could care less about just want good food , i got the 1851 breakfast platter and the chicken sausage was good the biscuit that everyone says is so good was dry and hard just a plain ol breakfast nothing to holler about .. i wouldn t come back .. two stars for service and nice atmosphere

I think its a great place to check out at least once. I just hope your experience was better than mine. I hoping they were just having an off day. Its a great place because of the history tied into it. We had an hour wait, which we expected. We went to the gift shop and walked around the riverwalk while we waited. There was no employee in the gift shop. I found something I wanted to purchase but couldnt find anyone to ring me up. I waited 10 minutes at the desk while my husband looked and showed me trinkets. Just as we were about to leave the checkout desk, an employee showed up, no apologies, warm greetings, or eye contact, just, is that it? Not the end of the world, I just thought it wasnt the best customer service. Once we were sat, we chose to sit outside. Someone had a dog in a carrying case, yipping in an ungodly high-pitched manner. I had read on the website that only registered service animals were allowed, so we left our 2 fur babies at home. We would have loved to bring them to walk around, but we wanted to be respectful. This dog yipped the whole time, still yipping as we left. Not one employee said a thing to this woman about her dog, which clearly wasnt a service animal. I understand employees not wanting to lose business or cause a potential scene, but her dog was horribly loud. I cant speak for anyone else, but it certainly had an impact on how much I enjoyed my experience. The service was decent. I never felt like I wasnt being taken care of, maybe just a little rushed. Our server did the best to his ability, but he had a large party that was constantly needing his attention. None of the employees seemed to be enjoying themselves. They looked like they dreaded life. Ive worked in the services industry for many years, so it made me chuckle because i get it, but they could use a moral boost. I highly recommend their Founders coffee. I ordered chicken and waffles, and my husband had an enchilada. The chicken and waffles were good. The waffles were a little dense for my liking. The enchilada was soggy and cold. Not the end of the world. Our server was working hard. We really just wanted to leave because this dogs bark was ear wrenching. So we decided not to send it back, and I would rewrap it with a fresh tortilla when we got home. Im glad we checked it out. It just wasnt the experience we were hoping for.

The wait here is always a nightmare, but the food made it well worth it. The gift shop/museum is always enjoyable. They took away the free coffee, which made the wait more unbearable. If you want, you can go to the To-Go area and purchase coffee and treats.

There was awe at the building itself, there was laughs and joy with our amazing waitress, Natasha, and the food was delicious and so filling! Should we ever make it back to the area we ll be sure to add The Guenther House to our itinerary.

The Guenther House is a must do if you are visiting or just love history. Located in the historic King William District, this small restaurant is a gem. Open only for breakfast, brunch, and lunch, and you will find many good things to enjoy. I recommend the special blend House Coffee. As for the food, there are far too many good things to recommend a single dish. Usually, you will have a wait to get in, so plan accordingly. While waiting, however, you can, and I advise you to tour the home and visit the gift shop. Here, you will find many souvenirs as well as kits to make many of the dishes you find on the menu. Definitely buy some of the house coffee and sweet cream pancake/waffle mix. After eating here, stop at the pastry counter and take at least one confection to go. The Cinnamon Roll with pecans is my goto.

I don t understand what the fuss is all about. The biscuit is not actually a biscuit. It s more like a bread, definitely not layered like a biscuit should be. My seven-year-old daughter even said, this isn t a biscuit!! Super disappointed. Potatoes were not evenly cooked, some raw and some were soft. We asked for bacon extra crispy, and it came out super rubbery. It wasn t much better than dennys. Not worth the wait

Weve loved the breakfast at Guenthers for over twenty years. Their pancakes, waffles, biscuits, cinnamon rolls, and scones are all soft with a subtle sweetness. The house itself and grounds are a beautiful place to eat and even wait, as theyre frequently full on weekend mornings and do not take reservations. The staff are always friendly and welcoming. Before or after eating, its fun to look at the little shop and exhibit rooms. The house is accessible from the Riverwalk or a small parking lot.

Parking: Limited parking and parking accessibility. Few handicapped spots nearby. Kid-friendliness: Being that this establishment is a museum as well as a restaurant, its not particularly child-friendly. There are breakable objects, and theres also barricaded off sections that arent intended for pedestrians to wander, let alone children. Wheelchair accessibility: Being a house that was originally constructed in the mid 1800s, theres almost no wheelchair accessibility options within the house. Outside of the house is likely your best option, as theres exterior seating, but please be wary of navigating inside the Guenther House. Fairly tight stairs and virtually no ramp accesses. Expect the same from the restrooms as well.

Sadly Father s Day brunch wasnt the best thanks to our server Mando. We got our food and asked for jelly and sadly he forgot so by the time we found him to ask again our biscuits got cold. When asked if he can get fresh warm biscuits he and the cook said all I can do is take them off your plate and take them back to our kitchen to warm them up . He also proceed to say its our fault they got cold since we didn t ask for the perseveres before our meal came out. Instead of taking the fault as he forgot to bring them out in the first place or even offer them after bringing out the food. On a positive note there was one of the other servers that wasn t even ours that was really nice and kept our coffee cups full. Grateful for her but sadly our server Mando made our overall experience poor.

I hate to give a one star, but I have to because the food was just so terrible. It was very difficult to even eat. The only food that decent were the biscuits, but the sausage tasted like cold, over cooked, frozen sausage. The over-medium eggs I asked for were over-easy and impossible to eat. I was told the potatoes would take 20 min so asked if wouldnt mind swapping with fruit, I agreed, but yet it still took 20+ min and my friend got potatoes on his plate even though he asked for fruit also. One friend got the chicken salad, but it looks like 60% garnish, 40% edible with no bread substance to eat with. Its sad because my friends were visiting for Fiesta, but they were all disgusted. They said they had to force themselves to finish it. Im local, it was my first time here as well. The environment, museum vibes, and location was great. But, I wont go back for the food, unfortunately.

After an hour and 20 we decided to go check where we were on the waitlist and they said it was an additional hour and 45 min. When calling, they said they dont do waitlist through the phone nor take a list of reservations but obviously they need it so they dont waste customer time if they cant handle when people walk in. Several small buisnesses that are busy do reservation only for this very reason. Definitely something they need to recommend doing for smoother service. If you still decide to go, I recommend checking on the waitlist every 15-20min to make sure it is still moving along.

45 minute wait on Easter, not too bad. My daughter and I walked around their Museum and gift shop while we waited. A little disappointed that the lion fountain on the top floor didnt work and there werent more displays explaining what rooms used to be (minus the parlor and museum display. Once inside, I was floored by the loud kitchen noises and plates always dropping. It startled me so much and had me jumping, the waitress actually said try to focus on me and not the noise. We placed our order and had to reiterate because the waitress couldnt hear over the noise of yet again, the kitchen. Food took about another 45 minutes to arrive. I ordered the strawberry waffle with bacon and side of scrambled eggs and my daughter ordered the breakfast taco with potatoes, sausage and eggs. Someone else, not our waitress, brought our food out with a bottle of almost gone Tabasco sauce and a small 2 oz plastic cup of ketchup. We ordered the blended coffee (Hazelnut/chocolate) and it was really tasty. My food was a typical pancake house serving and nothing to boast about, except the strawberries were really fresh which was nice. My daughters breakfast tacos seemed original and were very good! I dont know if we will ever return, but it was a nice way to spend Easter Brunch with my daughter.

Love the food and the atmosphere! Update...on 2/4/2024 whoever our waiter was was not very nice..we went around 1 oclock and he took so long to get our drink order, get our drinks, and bring the check. Never came to check on us. Food was great but the service was absolutely terrible!

Beautifully maintained building from the 19th century and plenty of historic nostalgia. Restaurant is clean, staff are attentive & friendly, you can sit outside or inside and the food was fantastic. Today was my first visit and this place is now going to be one of my regular restaurants.

We could definitely tell the difference in the pancakes, they were great. The coffee cake was pretty good too. Not your normal quiche, which I didnt love.

We ate at the Gunther House because it was recommended. It is a lovely building and the staff were very pleasant. The food was average at best and decidedly not worth the money. Anyone can have an off day so the food was not enough to keep me from returning, however due to dietary restrictions my wife and myself do not drink caffeine and while I can drink decaf coffee, my wife doesn t and therefore she brings her own decaf tea bags. Believe it or not, herbal tea is not a substitute for good black tea and is also not necessarily decaf. So we ordered hot water for her tea, to our surprise the charge for this water was $4.95, yes that is correct, for a single cup of hot water they charge $4.95. Well that is enough to stop me from recommending or returning to this restaurant. There is a book that the management of this establishment should read, called Give them the pickle it might do them a lot of good in establishing positive relationships with their customers.

We dying on the patio it was a wonderful experience. Natasha is an outstanding server. This was our first experience at this restaurant as we are from out of town. We live in Albuquerque were here for a wedding and she made our breakfast experience amazing. If we ever come back to San Antonio we will certainly come back to the Gunther House and asked for Natasha to be our server.

Well worth a visit! Even if the waiting time can be long on popular days. We waited for about one hour and a half. In the meantime it was nice walking around in the museum/house. The food was very good! I will definitely eat here again.

The Guenther House restaurant is located On the grounds of the Pioneer Flour Mill established 1859. King William area. It was confusing finding the entrance & where to park. We finally checked out this historical restaurant. A country fried casual atmosphere. American & Tex-Mex cuisine. Lunch was fresh & tasty. Toured the museum & gift shop. Nice patio. Spot on service and friendly staff. We went during the week so there was not a wait, Ive heard there can be an hour wait on weekends. I will come back and check out their brunch. Parking: Parking is across the street, near the entrance across the street from Blue Star.

Worth the wait! That s what we were told when we were walking in and they were RIGHT! Charming atmosphere, friendly service and great tasting food. I would recommend you try the 1851 Breakfast Platter and Chicken and Sweet Cream Waffle. Biscuits & gravy are a must! Skip the enchiladas.

Went for brunch, 45 minute wait on a Sunday, super expected. Area was a little confusing to walk around but cool house. Seated in the main dining which wasn t heated so the 55-60 degrees outside was felt throughout the meal, we all wore jackets. The server was quirky which I can appreciate the effort but was uncomfortably so. Food came out decent speed, good portions. My biscuit and gravy wasn t hot nor was my bacon. Friends said house coffee was good and flavorful, no one had any raves about their food which was the favorite breakfast, chicken and waffles, and a club sandwich. Standard food, long wait, reasonable price, cold atmosphere, uncomfortable waitstaff. Wouldn t personally go back but wouldn t deter anyone from trying it.

I reach out three times to schedule an event as years ago we held one here. I left a voice mail message with the event coordinator twice in addition to leaving one on the general recording. I never heard back from anyone. The days requesting were about 30 days out. Im surprised as my husband and I have eaten breakfast there before and loved it. This is bad business and Ive taken my funds elsewhere. -Unhappy customer

Both breakfast and lunch offerings are made with their own milled flour. The food is wonderful. We had a 40-minute wait time during a weekend lunch hour. Parking is free and plentiful. The gift shop / museum is quaint and helped the time to pass quickly. It seems they have thought of every way to make their guests more comfortable. Outside seating was pleasant, whether on a 60-degree winter or in the heat of summer. Blankets, heaters, fans and outdoor covering - they seem prepared for all temperatures. Wheelchair accessibility: The gift shop and museum are not wheelchair accessible.
