The state parks are not very attentive when it comes to stewardship. Its a nice country area to walk and hike. However its not my typical place to camp out. I prefer the river in Christ oval. Or O.C.Fisher lake to camp out. This is for trailblazers and outdoor stuff. Its a history lesson learned about the state parks. Its a getaway from all electronic devices if you want to come and escape from the busy devices. Whatever your reason to visit please enjoy.

I paid $4 x 2 today to drive through this park. We are from out of state. This place is a dump! It would have been nice if they would have told us, at the gate, that there is NO LAKE! Dont waste your time here!

It not a very camper state park. We rented a cabin, which is a good price at $65 a night. Fairy a long walk to the restroom, without a shower. To shower when staying in the cabins. You need walk or drive about half mile to the RV sites. Which have one female and one male shower. The park is an excellent mountain bike park. The park did a prescribe burn at the park about a year or so ago. With little rain, there not vary much green in the park. The hilight of the park, is the bison and longhorn heards. One trail there are some dinosaur footprints in a old riverbed.

I love this old scraggly park (San Angelo State Park). It is absolutely the epitome of West Texas....Cedars (sparse), cactus (plentiful), and dry brown grass and they just did a prescribed burn so much of it is burned. But the skies are wide open, as well as the sunsets and the campsites. And there are over 50 miles of bike riding! The park is huge and there is a lake (O.C. Fisher)that is 6% full....you would think that would be a real depressing sight, but it is just mesmerizing. Most boat ramps are all overgrown due to years of disuse.... one time, probably 60 years ago, there was plenty of water. There are places in the park where you can see abandoned picnic tables next to what was the lake front....

Large camp divided into several sections with varied options for RV and tent camping. Restrooms were old but functional. Noted several concrete paths, stairways, and boat lauches that were no longer maintained but accessible. Sites were dirt and grass, some had picnic shelters, fire pits and grills. The ants, of all sizes and colors have over-run the park.

Here s what you may like to know. This place is huge(7700+acres) you can fish in any state park without a license if standing on the ground , (boats are allowed). We have the O.C.Fisher Lake and a trout pond that was built with your kids in mind ! It is regularly stocked ( check the schedule at our San Angelo State Park Facebook Page). The South Gate entrance is to the right of the Arden Road intersection on HWY 2288. The park is large enough to host its own hunting season ! There are over 60 miles ( some say more !) of biking, hiking and Horseback riding trails( supply your own horse and negative coggins certification)we even have one park with horse pens for your convenience. Speaking of parks , there are many. Red Arroyo with access to the lake, and sites with both 30 and 50 amp service. Isabel Hart with primitive tent sites and great views. The primitive cabin area with extra parking with water and electricity for an RV. There s a fire ring and picnic table, and great views( near to the bathrooms and shower area.) Chaparral area has a huge covered picnic or gathering for family reunions or any large number of RV travelers. These sites are positioned all around the large covered table area. Bald Eagle , located in the North area (approximately 8 miles to the north on HWY2288)of the park is beautiful bottom land with old Oaks and Pecans, providing wonderful shady areas for horseback riding, hiking or biking. This area has both tent sites and RV sites( also 30 or 50 amp). After registration we will give a code for the gate as this area is always kept closed to keep animals off the highway. North Concho is where the equestrian trails begin and pens are provided for your horses. Also beautiful for any outdoor activities. River Bend, quiet and lovely. Bring your dogs for a walk ( or run) and bring the kiddos. Make s mores and make your lasting memories . See the Bison and their babies and the Longhorn cattle. Watch the birds and wildlife area the observation area across the street from the wonderful children s playground . Hope to see you there !

Sadly, we ended up going on one of the coldest days. The trails are not marked very well after the trail start and I found it extremely difficult to navigate. The entrance staff was not super friendly or helpful (had to ask for a trail map/ asked where a specific trail was/ and where the best place to park is)- he actually appeared to be annoyed. I m giving him an 80% pass because it was very unusually chilly. We did the rattlesnake trail 3.1 mile trail (I think? ) or perhaps we were just roaming around lost for 3.1 miles. We saw some deer and there were lots of Buffalo from afar. There is almost no protection from the wind due to the desert scenery. I ve heard tale when the weather is nice that you will see lots of 3 toed lizards. Kids and I plan on trying again and hoping for a different experience.

My family and I went here, it was right at closing time, I had all my paperwork to show the person working so we could get in. The lady pretty much told me that since i wasnt in the system we couldnt go in. She said, rather rudely that we could pay the money or leave. I guess that taught me to try to actually get any benifit of being a disabled Combat Veteran.

I copied this from my review of the main map location. I had a great time RVing here. The spaces are spread out so you can have privacy. But it would be nice to have neighbors a bit closer. Sometimes it is fun to mingle with all the neighbors and be social. Their staff is incredibly friendly and do a great job maintaining the park. The only problem is that they have a very bad wasp/hornet problem around the restrooms and the dump station. Other than that... It was all good!
