Great place for some fishing hiking just enjoying the outside

Unless you have full-body protection from mosquitoes and sun, do NOT visit. In the 30 seconds it took to get out of the car, the car was filled with mosquitoes and we were chewed alive. There are signs explaining the hour-long battle, and views of tankers and casemates. Unless you plan to fish, it is not worth the $5 entry fee. 90°F before 10am in May. Not hospitable to humans.

Absolutely beautiful place. Lots of birds and alligators to view. We will definitely go back there again!

Refuge is not really designed for the public, but does have small areas that are accessible, and provides decent birdwatching in the spring. They also allow limited duck hunting in the fall.

Small area mostly for hunting it seemed. A small circular sidewalk under some trees and a view to a reeded pond. It has a main building next to it but not necessary to visit. Small parking lot with a porta-potty. Toilets: Single porta-potty in the parking lot.
