Forney doesnt have any good chinese places in my opinion and this place is worth the drive. They are friendly when you call and pick up your order. I found my new chinese spot! And I just got fed up with them, they give you more vegetables than meat and they overcharge you for everything. So I said let me try Chef Chen. I do not regret it. I love Chef Chen for my Chinese food needs. Their food is awesome! When I moved here in 2001 I could not find good Chinese food. This is a great find, this small, obscure Chinese restaurant right over the 66 bridge in Rowlett. My go-to food usually is egg drop soup, egg rolls, steamed dumplings, chicken szchewan with fried rice and Dragon, and Phoenix with noodles. I get stuck, and this is my usual order. The food is fresh, hot, and delicious. During the virus, the dining room was closed, and since the reopening of the dining room, weve eaten in the house once. But the dining room is open, but the majority of business is take out and delivery drivers. I highly recommend this restaurant after eating Chinese food from New York China Town, San Francisco, China Town, and other cities around the USA , unique Chinese culture capitals. CHEF CHEN is top notch.

Based on other reviews, we decided to give Chef Chen a try. What a pleasant surprise! Their food is excellent! My husband likes spicy food and they don t disappoint. Most of the food is delicious! When I first started coming I loved the General Tso chicken. I quit eating it because its too hard to chew. The spring Rolls are very greasy. They should cut up the food more. A knife is never included. So its hard to eat such big pieces, I would appreciate an Itemized receipt every time. They should not charge extra for chopsticks and mustard and sweet and sour sauce. The delivery service is very fast and the food is always hot. I will recommend this restaurant to everyone in the future.

Chef Chen has poor customer service. They don t take the time needed with customers to get food ordered. They need more folks available to take an order correctly. They will deliver you the wrong order and it will take about 2 to 3 hours for them to deliver the appropriate order. They are only about sell, sell, sell rather than they take the time to order correctly. I really dreaded leaving them this review, but they have gotten my order so many times wrong.

Im going to give Chef Chens restaurant 4 stars because most of the take out dishes we got, were good. Not outstanding, but tasty. However, the Orange Chicken was inedible, The breading and flavor was good but the chicken could not be chewed up Not one piece was edible. When you think Chinese you expect tender. The combination Lo Mein included some sea scallops along with the other meats. Normally scallops are not fishy, but these were, which made the Lo Mein a bit fishy. We will probably not return to Chef Chens again. But it is definitely worth a try for others, because you might love it.

Based on the reviews we were really excited to try it here, however it just was not good. The egg drop soup and cream cheese rangoons were fine but the sesame chicken and the lemon chicken were mediocre. We took mostly all of the food home but ended up not eating it. We spent about $50 on a soup, rangoons, 2 egg rolls and two entrees, so we had higher hopes for the price.

Ive been visiting family in East Dallas for years and after discovering this place I go out of my way to visit every time Im in town. This is American Chinese food in a fast food setting with nice little touches that make it a bit better than comparable restaurants. Make no mistake, this is still American Chinese Food and its a fast food style order at the register or delivery. But this is a restaurant that takes customer satisfaction absolutely seriously. They will promptly fix any (rare) issue like an incorrect item with a smile. The General Tsao and related sweet sauces are made in house and are delicious. The egg rolls are made in house from scratch, unlike similar restaurants that buy ready to fry from restaurant supply. The shrimp quality is superior for this price point. The Lo Mein and fried rice are made fresh in their open kitchen on ripping hot woks and you can watch them as they make your meal to order if you like. The noodles and rice are well-seasoned without being too salty. They love to let the ingredients shine here. The fact that the prices have stayed low all these years with no impact to quality across the entire menu is frankly amazing. They still employ their own delivery drivers which keeps costs and fees low. The family that owns the restaurant really cares about quality and it shows. If youre in the area this place is absolutely worth checking out.

Hole in the wall I stopped in just before 5pm for my pickup. Service was great greeted as I came in the door. I had ordered while on my way I had about a 2 min wait. Got it home hot and fresh. The spring roll was tender and crispy with right amount of filling I wish I had asked for mustard but I forgot. Hot and sour soup is spectacular. I ate here numerous times when I lived in the area and have now moved out of state. Being back in the area on vacation of course I had to come straight back here because it is one of the absolute best restaurants in the area. First the staff is so friendly they take great care of you if you dine in and if you take out they pack your order so diligently even putting cardboard in the bag to stop soup from spilling. Now the food. Their sweet crab Rangoon are amazing, their chicken fried rice is to die for I mean seriously how do they get the chicken so moist and tasty, and the hot and sour soup is literally the best hot and sour soup I have ever had. I could live off it. The restaurant is always impeccably clean and to top it all off the prices are extremely affordable. Weve eaten there three times in the 4 days weve been back in town and have plans to eat there at least a few more times before we leave town. Please never stop being such an amazing restaurant!

We live close and have been coming here for years. The quality isn t near what it used to be, the previous cook was better. Paid $6.50 for the Egg drop soup, it wasn t thin like soup should be, it was thick like egg whites are right out of the egg shell, slimy and inedible, never like this before and we ve always ordered soup with our meal. Delicious food however To the owner- you could make your life easier and make more money and most importantly satisfy your customers if you implemented Chow Now for online ordering. Its ridiculous in the year 2020 to have somebody answering the phone putting people on hold and taking phone orders. Really bad customer service and closed minded. I suggested Chow Now to the woman on the phone and she dismissed my suggestion. Plus due to the language barrier and her panicking due to the other 3 phone lines constantly ringing she didnt even understand what I was saying. Ridiculous. I had orange chicken and the chicken was too hard. Possibly over cooked or grease old. The taste was bland. I knew it was orange chicken because of the sliver of orange peels which were fried hard as well. The rice and my husbands food was very delicious he had sweet and sour chicken. The color of his entree was a nice golden tan color compared to mine. One bad experience would stop me. I would go back and order the same entree, however if the order looks like the previous and the texture I will definitely take it back.

If you are looking for a truly remarkable Chinese restaurant, then look no further. Each and everytime we have ordered from Chef Chen their dishes are delicious! Some of our favorites which are pictured below. Cathay Combo, which has a fantastic variety of chicken, beef, shrimp and veggies all in a flavorful brown sauce. General Tsos chicken...crispy fried chicken in a wonderfully spicy sauce and last but not least chicken lettuce wraps... Minced chicken, water chestnuts accompanied with a wonderful dipping or pour on soy style sauce with generous portion of lettuce leaves to wrap the chicken. We have been going to Chef Chen for years and we have tried other places but NONE can compare. Casual, reasonable and always delicious!!! Friendly staff that changes often - a sign of the times. We have gotten and were always well pleased with full meals, but we only ordered won-ton and hot-sour soups this go-round. I got crab-rangoon and wife got a spring roll also. All was excellent. Maybe the best in the area! Order the large soups to go and have some as leftovers if you can make yourself quit. Sprinkle the crunches in the soup to spend out the joy for your taste-buds. Ahh-So good! Parking: Strip shopping faces major east-west road in Rowlett near Dalrock Rd. Copious parking in front of stores. Easy to get in, but harder to get going East. Store faces south, so leaving to the west is usually not a problem.

1st call I was hung up on while answering the ladies question. 2nd call i was able to order, but she was impatient when she could not hear me and also randomly started talking to her co-workers several times during the call while i was telling her my order. When we picked up the food, the restaurant was dead and the workers were sitting at a table chatting getting ready for the dinner rush later in the day (it was still lunch time) Food: The honey sear shrimp & combination rice were mediocre at best. My daughter and I love the chicken lo mein. Really quickly turnarounds on the deliveries as well. My parents that flew in also had great things to say about their meals.

The hot and sour soup is good. I had ordered the Shrimp Empress meal, got home opened the container up and it was some sort of battered chicken dish. I can t eat chicken. Not worth the price. Panda Express is better and less expensive.

Well, still looking for good Chinese food in Dallas area. Spent $50- take out. Very disappointed. The take out entry is odd. Difficult to speak with them. Not appealing for customer. Lots of money for small portions and very ok food. The crab Rangoon was over cooked. Tried to eat one. The rest will go in the trash. The moo goo gai pan - shrimp chicken beef had no rice to accompany. Really? Wanted egg rolls . They had none. They gave us spring rolls that we didn t want. The chicken wings were just ok. The chicken lo mein was ok. Dumplings were over cooked too. Fried rice ok. Still looking for a good Chinese place. From Boston. Too much money for less than great food and small portions. Please help.

I wanted Chinese today, even though its Hot outside today. I searched maps for the closest place and here I am. The location is dark took a minute for my eyes to adjust. You place your order and wait. The kitchen was busy with to go orders. There was only me and one other guest dining. The chicken fried right was perfect and hit the spot. Big portion for $13. I will be back to try the lunch specials.

Dining area was dirty and trashy. Fried rice was cold, peppered beef was only room temperature, they dont have tea only high priced canned beverages. Prices are too high for what you get. Restroom area was trashed and filthy

A friend told us about this spot and I am so glad! So far everything we have tried has been soooo good! I really love their spring rolls, sesame chicken, and crab wontons! The service is really great which makes it even better!

If I could give 0 stars I would. Came in today for lunch and half way through my plate I felt awfully sick. Literally just got up and left. The chicken isn t chicken I m pretty sure. Tasted soo off. Lots of squishy pieces and chunks. Will not be back.

This has been our little local takeout place for a few years now because we like them ALOT. My dad gets the General Tso s chicken and I get the beef and broccoli. Huge portions but we ask for the lunch size even at dinner time. They are super fast not super friendly but we always get ours to go anyway .

Just bad. I hate to leave a bad review, but we couldn t finish our meal and be full it was so bad. All of the chicken was chewy and just off, bland, no seasoning whatsoever, just very off. $45 down the drain. Tbh we would have been better off going to Panda Express and definitely would have saved 30 bucks and had a better meal

Chef Chen is a staple in our household. Frankly, if youre getting anything other than their fried rice, youre doing it wrong. For over 15 years their Chicken Teriyaki Fried Rice bowl is something Ive only ever found from Chef Chen. It takes longer to prepare than other dishes, but it is absolutely worth the wait. Chef Chens delivery guys have always been great and ordering over the phone is always super easy.

I will start by saying this is the best Chinese Food I have had since moving to Rockwall county. Now, I must also add the bar isnt set very high in this area. The lady who took my order was pleasant over the phone as well as in person. The lo mein was good but reminded me of the type you get at Mongolian bbq and was pretty heavy on the garlic (but I like Garlic). The flavor profile on the sesame chicken was good but as other reviews mentioned the breading is super thick and not the tempura type of texture that youd expect. The fried rice that came with the lunch special was lacking in vegetables and egg but I also know usually the fried rice that comes with the specials doesnt have any veggies so I am curious if an actual order of rice like a shrimp fried rice would come with more veggies. Overall 4 stars but I would come back for sure.

I came in, and the extremely short chick working there today didnt even respond when I cheerfully asked how she was doing. And then I order an egg drop soup without the peas and carrots, and she says in a rude tone the price, and pours the soup. And then she literally snatched the card out of my hand, knocking over the card reader machine, and handed it back to me- making me feel rushed. I get home, and that was when I saw she didnt strain it, and she gave me STALE fried egg noodles. Not happy at all. She made me feel unwelcome, rushed me, and ignored my request. Yall need to make it right with me. At least give me a free meal or do something about her. Until then, I wont be coming back.
