Food was pretty good overall...sort of like an American Chefs take on Mexican food. Thats the impression I got anyway. The restaurant is beautiful for sure. The server purposefully dodged questions about up charges which always upsets me. $90.00 for 2 sodas 2 entrees and 1 queso + tip wasnt really worth it for me.

Very nice building, landscape, and views off of the deck. The drinks were very flavorful and had many neat options of different types. Cucumber/jalapeno was good. Loved the chips and most of the different salsas. The steak was cooked perfect, the chicken tacos were tasty. Everything was good. However, almost every dish was missing something and was blah on the Texmex season side. It seems odd that we salted everything. But were putting salsas or cream on food to give it something more. Our waitress was great with suggesting gluten and dairy free items for my wife. We would come back to try more items.

I had high hopes for this place but was sorely disappointed. If you re in the mood for authentic Mexican, this is not the place. Typical items that you would expect to be included, such as salsa and chips, rice and beans, are all an up charge. We ordered fajitas for two but only received 4 very small street taco sized tortillas, so we had about half of our meat left and had to eat it plain since the waitress never came back around for us to ask for more tortillas. The flavor of the fajitas was underwhelming, there were not many vegetables, and the rice smelled, looked and tasted like uncle Ben s microwave rice. We ordered the salsa flight but our bowl of chips was half-filled with the broken tiny pieces you d find at the bottom of your chip bag, and since our waitress didn t come back around we weren t able to finish the salsa we paid extra for. Will not be returning.

We ordered enchiladas. We asked for queso on the chicken and red on the rest. We get our order and it s plain enchiladas with no beans and rice and the sauces on the side? We just add them and don t say anything. We get our bill and they charged us $8 for the sauces. We are like, what? We ask our waiter and he said yes, if you order more than one sauce, you get charged an additional fee. We stopped serving beans and rice to reduce our food costs. Sorry, I should have told you these things. They charge for the chips and salsa as well. If you re not going to serve it like 99% of restaurants do, at least offer it below on the menu with the additional charge. I guess they forgot to charge us for their servers and hostess salaries, so I guess it could have been worse. We won t be back.

Ordered the beef fajitas to go last night (09/21) and my first bite I had to reel in a 12 + inch strand of hair out of my mouth. On top of that the veggies were extremely soggy. I m sure they would have taken care of us had we been dining in, but this take out experience definitely left a bad taste in my mouth.

What a fabulous restaurant! Every little architectural detail has been thought of so this building will really impress you. Some of the coolest things are the clerestory lighting and another really cool thing is the overhang on the back deck has light coming down from above also. I think the architecture is the coolest part of the experience but the food is amazing too. It is basically upper end Mexican food and the service is really good. Everything on the menu is cooked to perfection and you wont be disappointed!

We re in Georgetown for an extended visit and have visited a half dozen times in the past month. After dining in the dining room on our first visit we now only go to the bar. The service staff needs a bit of training to elevate the experience. The food is ok but this is not a chef driven restaurant. We expected much better based on the location, but were a bit disappointed. Overall we go here because it s nearby and the bartenders seem happier and are more focused on service. They make good drinks as well. Of all the things we ve ordered, the chips and salsas flight are our favorite. We ordered it the first time based on a bartender suggestion and have ordered it on every visit. We go here for drinks and chips & salsa. We go somewhere else for a meal.

She was also training a new server and still didnt miss any details. The coconut lime margarita was the best margarita Ive had. The chicken enchiladas were perfect. We had mentioned to our server that we had driven over 4 hours to eat here and at the end of the meal she surprised us with a delightful brownie topped with ice cream for dessert. It was soooo yummy and very appreciated. This server deserves a raise. ha. We will definitely be back the next time we are in the area.

The menu has been significantly reduced, prices have gone up, drinks were not up to par, and the wait staff tries to rush you out. Food needed flavor, chips and salsa were overpriced, a side of beans and rice costs extra, and a la carte option has been removed. Sadly I won t be back.

This review is long overdue. My husband and I first went here in 2016 and fell in love with their upscale Mexican dining. Best queso ever! And delicious tacos NOT drowning in cheese, but instead sprinkled with onions and cilantro .AS IT SHOULD BE. My husband loves shrimp quesadillas from here and won t order them anywhere else because these are the best. And I have to give a huge shout out to John. He first waited on us in 2017 and while we don t go out as often as we wish, we always have a lovely time when he s taking care of us. So, go and ask to sit with John, and don t skip on the delicious apps and cocktails! Oh, and El Monumento - a request? Please bring back the churros, if not on the menu, at least as a frequent special! Gracias!

Terrible customer service with stuck up and arrogant waiters. They dont care about you as a customer at all and will do the absolute bare minimum needed to serve you. We were seated at a table in full sun and told there were no tables available even though there were multiple tables of the same size in plain view. The waiter did not do more than the bare minimum to help resolve the situation. His solution was checking us out and making us go back to the front host and set it up. The server had an incredibly poor attitude and clearly did not want to be there, never going back to this snob watering hole. Spend your money at a place that will actually treat you like a customer rather than a nuisance.

Atmosphere is why you would even consider going here. Cute restaurant. On the river. Outdoor areas are very nice. Besides good drinks the food is subpar and everything is way over priced. Also not Mexican . The happy hour is also very minimal in a price difference. All the food is spicy so forget letting the kids pick anything they will actually eat and at $12 a kids meal you would think at least something would be on the menu they will enjoy. Rice is precooked and spicy. Only sweet potato fries. Chicken tenders are the ones pre frozen and fried so they are hard to eat for little ones. Beans are also a little spicy. Save your time and just go for a drink. Pick something else to eat. Sorry guys. I want to so badly like this place and have been several times. Also tortillas are package and terrible.

Food and selection was awful. Waitress was rude and unhelpful on menu when asked a question she gave an attitude. I order coffee with cream. Didnt even ask me or let me tell her what I wanted she just walked away. She brings me a plate with a pot, some cream that look like sour cream and a small cup with melted sugar according to her. Never seen this before. I am diabetic. I asked her to show me how to do my coffee and gave me an attitude and asked to bring me brown sugar because the liquid sugar was very syrup and extremely sweet for me. I also asked her to remove certain ingredients from my meal that I am allergic. She reply that they couldnt do it. I got so frustrated I didnt order the meal since a lot of it had ingredient I couldnt eat. So I order french fries she said they couldnt do that either even though it says on the menu so I couldnt order it either. I had to ask my boyfriend to order it with his Tex bowl that he order so I can eat but what we got was cube potatoes. On top of it all she grab our plates and clean the table that we got food crumbs on our clothes when she did that. This is the worst experience I have ever had going here. I dont think I will be going back there again. Waste of money, rude waitress and awful service. I would give it a 0 rating if I could they get an F---.

Tex Mex done well in a very nice restaurant. Loved the location along the San Gabriel River and took a walk in Blue Hole Park after dinner. The building is new and in southwestern style with a nice patio bar with a fountain where you can wait for you table to be ready. No reservations for parties less than 5 and it seems like you can expect a decent wait. So order some chips and salsa and a margarita and enjoy the wait. The menu wasnt extensive. But I was super happy with most of it. My only regret was the guacamole which was pretty bland. My wife had the Cuban torta (Mexican sandwich, not a cake) and it was amazing. I had the enchiladas with roja sauce and they were excellent. The black beans were surprisingly well spiced. Finished off with the chocolate pie which was perfect. Well be back because the food was great and the location is terrific. Parking is limited, but there is a parking garage a couple of blocks away. Edit: After my 2nd visit Im lowering my review and doubt Ill be back. I was again struck by how limited the menu is. I ordered the chile relleno and it was awful. A big pile of mushrooms and spinach that I had to dig through to find a sad little limp chile at the bottom. Spice and flavor was non existent. Its the first time in a long time where I was completely dissatisfied with my meal. To make matters worse I ordered it with picadillo and that didnt come out. Maybe that would have had some flavor. I also ordered the brussel sprouts which was enough for 4 and, again, not very flavorful.

I hope that while you have listened to suggestions, you also listen to criticism and feedback as well that will come with these new changes. Was a frequent visitor, almost weekly, driving 40 minutes to and from, because this place was a worth it. On a visit last night I was shocked by the changes. Prices up, portions down is how it seemed. $5 for a now limited chips and salsa from a $3 up charge that was unlimited? Also noticed the queso was 1. Different, and 2. A smaller portion and appears the chips have changed as well. If things are removed from entrees, like rice and beans, the prices should reflect that as well. The portions of other items show this too. I think we all understand inflation is at play, but doesn t make sense for customers to pay more, for less. I ve ordered barbacoa street tacos every time for the last 3 years and was so disappointed to see them removed but as my waitress said it went the way of the dinosaurs and it s an opportunity to try something new . For now, this will be a place for margaritas & to visit my favorite waiter, but that s about it.

The last time I ate dinner here was in the fall of 2023. At that time, my husbands fajitas were excellent but my chicken was dry and the rice was undercooked. It happens sometimes. Just recently I went with a group of 6. Our margaritas and chips with salsa were fine. The carnitas dish was dry, like old hard leftover black bits, and the beans were hard and under-cooked. How do you serve overcook carnitas and under-cook beans together? Im surprised they let that dish leave the kitchen. It was just a disappointment because I would like to support them, being a local business, but I dont think the food is worth it. The place is great as long as you dont eat.

I just arrived in town to visit friends for a long weekend and they suggested El Monumento for dinner. My first impression was, I love the building s architecture! The stone and wood blend perfectly for a rich beautiful feel. It was busy, quoted a 30 minute wait, so we put our name on the waitlist and headed to the bar. Since the food is Mexican I was going to have a margarita until I saw they had a Caipirinha on the menu. It s a refreshing cocktail made with Cachaca, a Brazilian liquor. Our bartender hadn t even finished making it and our table was ready. What a pleasure surprise, no 30 minute wait after all! We were seated and our server was there immediately asking if we wanted chips and salsa and letting us know about the monthly specials. We ordered the chips and salsa to snack on while we made up our minds on dinner. The chips were light and crispy and served with both salsa and guacamole. We all decided on the same thing, Blackened Gulf Redfish, one of the May specials. It was served with Ponchartrain sauce, topped with shrimp, and plated over asparagus spears and hatch chili grits. The flavors were incredible and blended together deliciously! I barely put my fork down! The entire experience was outstanding. I highly recommend dining here!

This restaurant is beautiful, whether you sit in the bar area, on one of their patios, or inside. Margaritas are the best I ve had in town and their burger and queso flameado are delicious. Parking: There is a large parking area, but can get full at peak hours like Friday at opening time (3pm)

Over priced. If you like being charged for chips and salsa at a Mexican restaurant, this is your jam! Beef fajitas....not sizzling but the price is at $35 & of course this doesnt include your rice and beans. If you want that, you gotta pay! If youre looking to impress someone based on pricing and not exceptional tasting food take them to El Monumento! Arriba, arriba!

Usually love this place but putting babies/toddlers in high chairs at the end of booths? Servers and guests kept kicking my kid s high chair as they walked by. Hot heavy trays over my kids head as they walk by? New seating option was not available. Server was more of an order taker when it was convenient to him, will be back maybe when the weather is nicer.

Ill give the atmosphere and the service 5 out 5 though. I just wish the description of the restaurant changes to something that does not say traditional Mexican.

Im from out of town to see family so I thought this would be a nice idea to take everyone because of the food reviews and environment. For starters the wait staff is non existent. We ordered 2 soft drinks and a mix drink. Only the mix drink came before the food. The mix drink was so stiff I couldnt taste anything else. We ordered guacamole while waiting for our food but arrived with our meals instead. The food took along time and they did not bring any utensils or the two soft drinks. I had to ask them to please bring this to us. The food itself was comparable to microwavable tv dinners. The chips looked fresh and golden but even they tasted store bought. I paid $100 for 3 people and to get this type service and quality of food I would have rather ordered torchys and eat at blue hole. Parking: Very small

The whole experience was utterly terrible. Service was severely lacking. Flagged down what looked like a manager with a white apron and a tablet, told her about all of our issues. She was unapologetic and really just acted like she didnt care. We are all disappointed we stopped here on our trip from San Antonio to DFW. All 4 of us have been or are currently industry workers. We were also forced to leave a 18 percent tip. This was just...bad. beautiful location though. Waste of money and time.

Until recently, we have given five star ratings across the board. Now however we have noticed a decline in some of the food quality. For example, the chips used to be light and free from noticeable grease. On every recent trip however, the chips glisten with grease are darker in color and leave our hands with grease residue. The guacamole portions appear smaller as well and the quesadilla filling seems much less in volume. We are hoping things improve, especially the chips, so we dont have to look elsewhere.

El Monumento is a beautiful restaurant that serves good Mexican food. They have seating inside and outside in a courtyard or on a patio. This place looks incredible. The decor and layout is authentic and beautiful and the design aesthetically looks amazing. Definitely top notch! The food is good and we had the barbacoa street tacos, tortilla soup and the kids had the quesadilla and an enchilada. The barbacoa tacos were way too greasy and were a different type of barbacoa from what I m used to. The tortilla soup was good, but less soupy and very hearty. The margarita was ok, but could remove or lighten the syrup. The place was nice and clean and they clearly take care in its appearance which is great. The staff was also excellent. Ashley was our server and she was very friendly, attentive and accommodating. Overall the appearance and experience of this restaurant screams high end food, but the food fell short. I would totally recommend this place for someone to visit. It s beautiful and inviting!

We have passed this beautiful establishment multiple times, however had never been able to make it in due to their hours. We finally got the chance, and strolled through on a day out on the town. The environment and service were amazing. It s a beautiful location with lots of photo ops, and chances to interact with nature on a great day. Being from San Antonio, I was looking for more of a casual menu and the one they have is slightly upscale. We settled with drinks and the homemade salsas which we tasty. The frozen margarita wasn t the best. I would recommend getting it on the rocks because the way it s blended is super watered down and icy. If you re looking for Mexican food with a twist, you re looking for the right spot.

Dined w/ family. Such a nice atmosphere but always disappointed with the food, we only go when someone else has picked the venue. We had multiple items Burger was burnt w 2 pieces of green chile. when the remake was finally brought out the server asked if a box was wanted before even putting plate down. It took that long to get it out. Tortilla soup had virtually no liquid in it, green enchiladas with chicken came out with what looked like pork which was over seasoned. Tacos were bland, meat was dry. Campechana was ok. The server was pleasant.

Challenging to find seating without a reservation. However, they have a separate bar area with limited regular tables and chair which could be leveraged for dine in with a full menu! It does get a bit loud sometimes but we have managed to eat in that separate room twice now as a 90 min wait didn t sound too appetizing with the kids. Not a bad experience but am sure we missed out on the full, elegant experience of dining in, in the main restaurant area. Their outdoor patio area looks fun too and allows a full dining experience I believe!
