This is like being in New Orleans eating. Had bourbon. glazed pork chops with candied yams and fried corn on the cob. My sister had fried catfish with the fixings. We were pleased with our meals. Some of the staff seemed very helpful while others seemed like we were bothering her. We will come back again for the food!

I m deeply sorry for having to review this restaurant since I couldn t try the food. I wanted to eat here and I m not from Round Rock and never heard of the place. I entered and saw how filthy the floors were and how broken the bathrooms were and i just couldn t eat in a place like that. The bathrooms had broken toilets and urinals. I immediately ran back out. There was a Christmas tree still up but in the month of September. This shows laziness in the staff. It was mildew and gunk piled up on the floors in the bathroom. Terrible! I am beyond shocked that a place serving food would even have such a dirty environment. It is my prayer that you get the restaurant remodeled or shut it down in Jesus name. Amen.

UPDATE 9~1~24. I gave it annother spin & they were ON! THIS TIME. THEY EVEN HAD CORNBREAD!!! I SEE (GOT TO TASTE) WHAT THE BRAGG WAS ABOUT! The taste & flavors are of home & its almost there for a reason. Many of us that grew up widt this food & steady diet of begin to have serious health problems such as HBP yalls is simply tryin to giv a taste of home without the extra Salt & other things that makes ya health go south. Dat Mac & Chese still didnt taste cheesey tho!!! Well presentation was good but overall taste was kinda bland. Im not a nit pickey eater but Mac& Cheese didnt taste cheezy fo meh.and the shrimp & grits had no flavor. Kinda like lurbys or hospital food. Its cooked but you haft 2 add the seasonings /flavor.

Mycomplaint is not being able to order extra cornbread, like dang I cant buy it?! 30 minutes wait on to go order and I cant get what I want! The food was ok. I love Mac and cheese but it was extremely overcooked. No need to chew. The only good thing from the order was the complimentary corn bread, fried pork chops and chicken .Lesson learned. I probably wont be back. The dessert is also not good to me. The blackberry cobbler nor the apple crisp was edible.

On Thursdays, they have an open face po-boy that truly is a work of art in the realm of sandwiches. Im a po boy lover and I can tell you right now that that was by far without a doubt the best po-boy Ive ever had in my life my girlfriend selected the chicken fried steak which was also absolutely fantastic. If youre looking for the kind of meal that leaves you sitting quiet at the table when youre done eating just smiling at each other and shaking your heads like good Lord that was amazing this is your place. To say they have good food is incorrect. Everything I have ever ordered here is absolutely fantastic. This is perhaps the best Eatery in Round Rock!!!

We enjoyed the catfish, meatloaf, and fried chicken tenders. The sides were amazing as were the desserts. All the staff were pleasant and have all been there awhile, which tells me they treat their employees well. Well worth a visit.

We were driving through from Canyon Lake to Ft Worth, I was looking online for someplace to eat near the freeway that was not fast food. I choose well. The restaurant was in a strip mall, normally I would have never chosen a restaurant in a strip mall by the freeway, but we were hungry and tired. It was Sunday afternoon right before the churches let out. We were seated immediately by a very friendly man who turned out to be our server. I wish I could remember his name, he deserves a shoutout. I ordered the sweet tea, the restaurant has a full bar too, the tea was as sweet as syrup, like my grandmother made it, delicious. My husband ordered grilled catfish, he loved it. My grandson got the chicken fingers, the online pictures are nothing like what he got. He got a huge chicken breast cut into strips, thoroughly breaded, perfectly seasoned and piping hot. He couldn t wait to dig in. He can eat, but one giant chicken finger filled him up. I choose the chicken fried steak, my normal go to when I m unsure about a new restaurant. I ve had hundreds of chicken fried steak in my sixty years in dozens of places, including homemade. There are many ways this was the best chicken fried steak I ve ever had. Huge, tenderized, perfectly breaded and seasoned. This was made in the kitchen: breaded in the kitchen and fried in a skillet in the kitchen. I managed to eat half of it it was magnificent. That was last week. My husband just said, let s take a road trip I m super busy next week, but now I m going on a road trip. So, the service, this young man was so polite and helpful, always a step ahead, he knew I was loving the tea, because I drank several glasses of it. So when he brought the to go boxes he brought me tea to go. I m surprised I didn t need an insulin shot, but I did sleep all the way home. This is the real compliment: when my grandson got home to his parents, he made us give him his chicken fingers! lol, he was not leaving them with us! He is seven and he remembered. I m not telling him we re going back next week, he ll want to come too. I don t remember what it cost, but they don t charge enough, whatever it was. I know we tipped less than 20.00$ at 20% gratuity. That was for three adult entries and tea, soda. Quite a bargain. I would bet that every thing on the menu is excellent, oh, and they have cobbler, so save room.

There are guitars and a Christmas tree decorated like the theme of Mardi Graus. This us definitely the brunch hang out and I see they have live music on Friday and Saturdays. So my hubby ordered the chicken fried steak, macaroni and greens and I ordered the chicken fried chicken macaroni and cabbage. Everything was fantastic and we had Togo boxes Thank You for making our lunch great

Me and my husband visited here 07/27/24. We both had the catfish atcatchlaya and the fish was cooked a bit too well and the breading had a burnt appearance. The sides (mashed potatoes and gravy ) the potatoes were a bit watery..?? we ordered came out well after we were finished eating. The Arnold Palmer was delicious (sweet tea and lemonade) mixed. I also had the peach cobbler it was okay. The food did not agree with my stomach. I believe it is the richness of the etoufee that s over the fish. This is only my opinion and my review. We spent over 60.00 and left a 10.00 tip. 6.5/10.

Since screaming from the rooftops gets the cops called on me and is generally frowned on, this will have to do. Tldr: This place is AMAZING and DESERVES your business. This restaurant is frankly THE BEST place in the ENTIRE Austin metro. From San Marcos to Georgetown. Hands down. Reasonably priced. Great portions. Phenomenal service. And quite possibly the best food Ive had since leaving home. Ive been home cooking for years. Learned from the best. I DONT think I can make better. My spouse and I go almost every week. They have the crawfish etoufee with the black eyed peas and mashed potatoes. I usually have the bayou chicken with mac n cheese and fries w gravy. Ive also tried out the fried steak. Spouse has also done the catfish atchaflaya. Its all been amazing. When I say it is always better than the last time I remember we were there, I do mean ALWAYS. These folks know what spices are and dang well use em well. If mayo is too spicy for ya, give this place a pass. Its too good to tell the kitchen to make it mild for you. The cornbread is sweet and not quite cake. Its still texturally a cornbread but definitely has that cake like moisture. Perfect. Apple crisp is our favorite dessert. We dont bother splitting one bc well fight over it. Sweet but not cloying. Speaking of sweet. The tea is on. Point. They have an unsweetened if you need it. But either way you like it, the tea is always fresh and not overbrewed. No overly bitter tannins to fight the sugar or spenda, etc. And finally, the staff. I have always felt so welcome and at home here. Even when anxiety brain has hold on me, the folks here go out of their way to make you feel like you belong. I have been coming here every week for about 6 months now. Ive come on good weeks and bad. Ive always been treated with kindness, respect, and care. These are good people sharing their passion for good Cajun style soul food. Literally, the only complaint I have EVER HAD about ANYTHING here was exactly one time the blackberry cobbler was a bit too molasses-y. And it was STILL really good. Again: I am telling yall. These folks DESERVE your business. And I cant tell you enough. Vegetarian options: Cajun/southern/soul food doesnt lend itself to vegetarian/vegan lifestyles. Its not impossible but is not possible without significant compromise on taste or texture. It is far better to try to make vegetarian/vegan interpretations of this at home, where you can decide how much you want to compromise, instead of going to a specialty restaurant that does not. Pescatarians would be well at home here, though. Dietary restrictions: Allergens exist here. Most everything has a different option where, as long as you tell your server when ordering, the kitchen can clean to avoid cross contamination, and the allergen will not be included. The staff doesnt bite. Just talk to them and youll be ok. Celiac folks may want to use caution, though. Most everything has a roux included in the making of the dish, which is definitely NOT gluten-free. It IS POSSIBLE to eat gluten-free here if you order grilled entrees and make sure you dont get any sides with gravy included. Parking: During the week, there are a lot of spots. They fill up on Friday/ the weekend/ holidays bc theres other restaurants in the center, and Flix Brewhouse is next door. You can still find a spot, but it may not be right up front. Kid-friendliness: No kids myself, but I have watched these folks interact with tables with kids. Big parties, small families, these folks take care of you and your kids. They have a good kids menu available, the tvs usually play FailArmy shorts, and most importantly, no one here is gonna complain about your kids existing. Theyre even pretty cool with the picky eaters Ive seen come in. Wheelchair accessibility: Its a shopping center without front of the curb parking. There is a ramp to get up the curb. It is not near the front but it is there. There is also a ramp to get down into the recessed bowl the front door is in. It is long but not a super steep grade. For those with canes, there are steps down to where this place is recessed, but take the ramp. The ramp isnt steep, but the stairs are.

Stopped in for lunch after church service today and was very pleased with the amount and quality of food. Whoever cooked those green beans and black eye peas, my goodness, thank you, Lord and Amen! I appreciate that they accept cash AND give a small discount for those who pay in cash. The catfish atchafalaya was on point. I could have used a tad more salt, though (just my opinion). Hubby tore down that overstuffed shrimp poboy. My only complaint is about the womens bathroom.

On June 30th, after Sunday church service, Lester and I went to Yalls for lunch. Lester decided to have the Oxtails, and I had the pork chops. Lester ate one small oxtail and said these are to tuff. He made his complaint to the waitress, and she got the manager. He came over and said no one else had complained, and they all came out of the same pot, so theres nothing he can do about it. He never said, Can we get you something else? or try to satisfy his customer. When we asked for the ticket, they had charged Lester full price for the meal even though he didnt eat it. He told them he didnt think it was fair and he would pay for sides. The manager said no, he would not take it off his ticket and asked if he wanted a to go box. Lester told him no, and he was not going to pay for the Oxtails. He paid for his sides and proceeded to leave, and the manager said he was going to call the police and tried to stand in the doorway to stop us. The owner finally stepped up and calmed the situation, but his last words were, Next time you come, dont order oxtails. Lester said, NEXT TIME I COME, and walked out.

I have never had an experience like this. I arrived with 3 other people in my party. When we came in the door, there were two employees standing and talking. One of the employees rudly walked up to us and said Hey, 4? Then seated us, pointed to the card on the table and said scan that for the menu. I should have walked out then and there. It just got worse. When the waitress finally came to our table they were out of several items. To include sodas. The tea was ridiculously sweet. We waited just under an hour to be told our food would be right out. Then 7 minutes later we were told by the waitress that she forgot to put in our order. We got up and walked out. BE WORNED THIS PLACE IS NOT A GOOD EXPERIENCE. From the appearance of the outside we should have known not to go in.

I called 5 times & each time someone hung up in my face. I ve tried this place once & didn t care for the food. The only reason I came back is because I m caring for an elderly woman & this is what she requested for her meal today. Never again!!!!! The waitress (Renee I believe that was her name) had the audacity to ask me if I needed a hug. I guess she could sense the mood I was in after being hung up on so many times. I told her, no, it was too hot & I didn t appreciate calling 5 times only for someone to hang up in my face. She went on to explain, oh that was your phone. Once I say hello twice & don t get a response I hang up Her response was terrible & shows the poor customer service. I went ahead & placed to order & was told it would be 30 min before it was ready. Either answer the phone or make that meal an option to order online. This place is a joke & will reiterate, NEVER AGAIN!!!!!

And had my certificate with me. However state law says it s illegal for them to ask for documentation. They still refused me and my family services. I have a golden retriever and then they told me that he was so small to be a service animal. Sherry the owner and some other guy pushed me out the door and then threatened to call the cops on me. There was no signs saying that no pets allowed. But a service animal is allowed to go anywhere.. Horrible experience and have never been treated this way before.

First, our waitress was great! I cant remember her name. She is the only Caucasian (her words) waitress in the restaurant. Second, the food was also excellent. Allow me to share part of my experience. My guest has a very low tolerance for heat/spice, so she was unable to eat her main course (The shrimp). It was unfortunate, but we were happy to pay for the entire meal because we ordered it, and she did eat the sides. We were not only allowed to order another complete meal, but the first was comped. Amazing! Of course I will be returning and would recommend this establishment.

Weve eaten here several times and always expect a really long wait for our food. That wasnt the case on this occasion. We were seated immediately, had a lovely and interactive server, and food came out in a great amount of time. This was a Saturday evening and it was about 80% full on the side we were seated. I was starving (and they have so many yummy options), so dont judge me, but I had the chicken fried steak, fried cabbage, fried corn-on-the-cob, and candied yams, plus the cornbread it comes with. Hubby had chicken fried chicken (it was HUGE). It was all SO delicious. Seasoned perfectly, the batter was super crispy, and the meat was tender. Cabbage was flavorful, yams were slightly too sweet for my taste but still good, and the fried corn...the outside was so crispy and the inside tender and sweet. The amazing food plus the music jamming in the background made for a wonderful dining experience for us.

Went on a Sunday afternoon and took a long time for food to be served. Red beans and rice were dry. Pork chops were big and thick, however, were fried in oil that needed to be changed.

The food is over the top! The fried gizzard appetizer was excellent! It came with hot sauce, which was good, but I wish it came with the option of the typical white gravy that normally comes with gizzards. The meatloaf was also excellent, but the portion was small. Perhaps they should have an option for a larger size? The collard greens, mashed potatoes, and the cornbread were also excellent! P.s. they do add some heat to their dishes. P.S.S The prices on my check were higher than the menu.

Let me start by say we eat here all the time came in Saturday ordered smothered pork chops the seasoning was so thick and hot my nose was running and tears was in my eyes dont know if someone wasted the whole bottle on accident or what?????I gave up seeing it was my birthday and I didnt want to ruin it took them home and Sunday evening I tried to eat them again before I could get to them my wife asked to try them mind u she was the one who said they might cool off after sitting in the refrigerator one bite and she yelled oh hell no this is ridiculous she puts cayenne pepper on everything she eats and couldnt even eat one piece not happy with this experience at all spent 63 dollars for only one person to enjoy the meal one of the two meals we ordered.

They are shady to people that worked hard for them. I was a dish boy and endured Sharron and Geoffrey s work abuse while they made my friend cry and threatened her because she needed to pick her kid up and that day wasn t that busy. We had the dream team slamming orders like they were nothing but Geoffrey proceeded to make my friend cry. When I went to jail I tried to call them and they purposely didn t answer like as if they didn t want me to begin with even though I picked up dead rats for them and had one day off and worked really hard for them. I always showed the hugest respect to them but they always bullied me and it effected my work ethic to were I don t feel good about myself anymore. Sharron never appreciated the hard work I put in and the fact that I defended them from a racist guy I used to work for and walked out on him for saying he didn t like them because they were black and loud. Anyway I stood up for them and supported their business and they dropped me like a fly that s why they deserve a 1 star. Also these photos are from their employee and Geoffrey trying to steal my phone

What a place!!! I found this small restaurant by chance, and it is terrific. If you like bland food its not for you. The portion are generous, and we had the chicken fried steak, fried pork chops, and broiled catfish. All were the best! The sides are also spicy , and I had the fried cabbage, candied yams (the very best!!!), and my companions had the rice and beans, green beans, macaroni. You can order online prior to arrival, which may prove to be a time saver. Again this place has spicy food, but Im from Louisiana, and will soon bring my rural born Louisiana mother to try it, and I know she will.

The proportions are great, But as soon as I started to eat the pork chop. I realized that it was not cooked thoroughly. It was very bright pink, almost bloody. Which can cause food poisoning.

Yalls Down-Home Southern Café is an absolute gem tucked away in the heart of the ROCK, aka Round Rock. From the moment you step through the door, youre greeted with the irresistible aroma of Southern comfort cooking that instantly transports you to Grandmas kitchen on a Sunday afternoon. Lets talk about those chicken wings. Crispy, juicy, and seasoned to perfection, theyre the epitome of Southern comfort food. Each bite is a symphony of flavors, with just the right amount of seasoning to leave you craving more. And lets not forget about the size these wings are big enough to share, but you might find yourself hoarding them all to yourself. Now, onto the sides. The black-eyed peas are a standout dish, with tender beans and bits of onion that add a pop of flavor with every bite. They taste like theyve been simmering on the stove all day, infusing each spoonful with the warmth and comfort of a homemade meal. While the fried corn may not have been the star of the show, it still held its own. Crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, it provided the perfect contrast to the savory goodness of the chicken wings. And while a touch more seasoning would have taken it to the next level, it still satisfied that craving for Southern comfort food. And of course, Southern meal would only be complete with cornbread. Moist, buttery, and oh-so-delicious, its the perfect accompaniment to any meal. Each bite is like a taste of home, reminding you of lazy Sundays spent gathered around the table with loved ones. Even during a pickup order, the attention to detail and friendly service at Yalls Down-Home Southern Cafe shines through. As I placed my order, the server or bartender who assisted me was not only pleasant but took the time to repeat my order back to me. It might seem like a small gesture, but its those little touches that truly make a difference in the overall dining experience. Their attentiveness ensured that my order was accurate and exactly what I was craving, adding an extra layer of warmth to the already inviting atmosphere of the restaurant. Its these moments of genuine hospitality that keep me coming back to Yalls Down-Home Southern Café time and time again.

The staff was welcoming I guess. But let s talk about the food!! The food is absolutely disgusting the yams tasted as if they used a whole bottle of cinnamon it was inedible I couldn t even eat it, the cabbage was burnt, my chicken wings tasted old like they had been reheated and the cornbread was hard as a rock no lie. I won t even get on the beef tips my husband had. Whoever they have in the kitchen needs to be fired immediately because this was the worst food I have ever tasted. We took it home and feed it to the dog.

We were really excited to try this place coming from the Louisiana border and moving down home cooking. We walked in and there was nobody to seat us for several minutes. The floors from the door to the table and back to the restroom were extremely sticky. This alone almost caused us to leave but we figured we d try it anyway because of the reviews on here. We ordered our food at 12:50. We did not see our server for 42 minutes later, when our food came out. We were the only ones in the restaurant and we watched three other tables come in after us, two of which received their food before us. I had to ask for a refill when our food came, and it was forever getting the refill. When my food came out (I ordered a po boy) the shrimp and sandwich was not warm. It also had something burnt in it (see picture). Not sure what it was, but it wasn t shrimp. The Mac and cheese didn t taste like Mac and cheese. My daughter had a burger and loved it. I had some red beans and rice which were amazing. So all was not in vain. The server we had was very sweet- she was just very quiet and very inattentive to us needing refills or checking on us. I hate to leave poor reviews, but I really have to be honest with this review.

First time eating here, wont be coming back. Food Ate here with my friend, we had gizzards as our appetizer. Which turned out to be the best food we had that evening. I had the steak fingers they were all right but for the price I felt robbed, in my experience food was just alright, I did eat nearly all of the food on my plate. However my friend did not like his meal at all and only ate about a third of his meal, he had the Bourbon Chicken. The food was pretty greasy and I didnt feel the best afterwards. Service The host was nice and had a lot of energy our waitress did her job fine, no complaints. However the food took a very long time to come out, about an hour, maybe a little more. We walked in around 7oclock on a Friday night. Atmosphere About what you would expect from a place like this however, me and my friend were seated up against the wall, and out of the corner of my eye I saw a baby roach pretty close to my head. My friend and I both noticed it at the same time, I quickly moved my drink from the wall side to the other side of the table. I then proceed to smack the baby roach with the side of my fist. The roach landed where my drink was just at and it quickly flicked it off the table. This all happened while waiting for the waitress to bring us our appetizer. I am not one to let many things bother me so we did not say anything and continued the wait for our food. Once leaving the establishment my friend who was upset since he did not like his food made a remark about how the baby roach should have been the first sign after waiting for an hour for a mediocre meal I agree 100% we probably should have left right after that. Honestly if it was any bigger than a tiny baby I would have left immediately as I am generally afraid of roaches, probably would have jumped out my chair with the quickness and caught a lot of eyes, if it was a full size roach I saw out of the corner of my eye. Overall Would not come back and do not recommend. The food was mediocre at best and had me feeling a little bad afterwards, the prices werent great either. The workers were nice but the wait was long, over an hour. Seeing the baby roach was disgusting, and we should have left the restaurant right then. Honestly based off the baby roach and how the food made me feel afterwards, I would not be surprised if the kitchen lacks cleanness.
