The Lighthouse in Port Isabel was a wonderful experience. Admission fee was $5, about 30 minutes of activities. Quite a few steps to reach the top. Be careful going up or down. Steep step towards the top. A beautiful view of South Padre Island, and very windy at the top. A great spot to take picture with the family, friends, partner! Not accessible for wheelchair users to go up the Lighthouse.

We like visiting lighthouses especially if you can climb to the top. You get great views up there. Caution: the last part of climbing to the top is a ladder. Not only do you need to climb that but you also have to climb back down so just be aware that can be awkward if you have mobility issues or get claustrophobic or afraid of heights.

The Port Isabel Light House & Visitors Center are a great place to start you tour of the town. The views from the top are outstanding and you can see for miles on a clear day, of which we have a lot of here. Like most places in Texas, climbing ten feet can provide some interesting scenery. The grounds are small, but the shops and restaurants surrounding the Light House are unique and charming. A little historic note is that the light house sits on the former site of Ft Polk ( a supply base for Gen Taylor). This site was chosen due to its elevation. Prior to Ft Polk being built just before the Mexican-American War, there was a fairly steep cliff along the waters edge. Today, the fort is gone along with cliffs, so its difficult to imagine what it once looked like. This is a must stop when visiting South Padre Island and Port Isabel!

Very beautiful lighthouse. Once you are inside, please be careful walking up the stairs and getting down to the steps! The charge to get in is $5 each. Reservations are not needed. Parking is free. The balcony is open at certain hours. No infants or toddlers allowed inside, for safety reasons. One other thing I will add, please....PLEASE, if you are bringing your children with you, ask for them to behave. This isnt a playground. When my family and I went, there were teenagers and other younger kids, throwing a football around right on the steps... rolling down the hills, and being very loud. The mother seemed to not care. Once again, not a playground.
