We were there having a life celebration for my mother who passed. We had 25 people there and they accommodated us all very comfortably. El Fenix was moms favorite restaurant (as is ours) for over 40 years, so it was no question that we have the celebration there. The management and staff were extremely friendly and efficient which made the day go smoothly. We highly recommend the Plano location they are the best! 5 stars!

Old fan of El Fenix. Today had fajitas and an awesome server named Catarino. I asked him how long he had worked for the company. He had been downtown in 1985 also at the belt line store. I asked if he knew Mr Martinez and he said absolutely. Saw him all the time downtown. Anyway I never do reviews but it was great and saw an old schooler from downtown. Cheers for El Fenix!

I visit this location almost every Wednesday. Mayra is the BEST! She knows my order as I always get the chicken sour cream enchiladas and a unsweetened tea. As soon as I sit down, chips, salsa and tea are on the table before I have time to eat a few chips the enchiladas are out. All the servers and crew here are awesome. I appreciate them all for getting me out quickly at lunch time.

There were only 2 other table occupied while we were there. Waitress was slow and uninterested. Table of 7 received 2 small bowls of chips and had to request refills. Food was meh. Beans were blah and 15-20 minutes after we had finished eating and were just visiting, I got up and cleared all our dishes to an empty table nearby so we had a little elbow room. We wont be returning.

I ve been eating here since I was a child (around 1981) and El Fenix has been a constant in my life. Some of my fondest memories were celebrated here. The food is amazing as is the service. Several of my milestones have been celebrated here. Every time I walk in, I get a rush of nostalgia. Literally, my favorite restaurant. I live in Greece, but every time I come home, I find my way back here. 10/10.

I work in the service industry and rarely post anything I ordered the same two dinners every time I place it to go they repeat the order back to me and every single time I get my food my order is wrong sometimes I take it right back in and they fix it but Ive yet to have my food order be correct I have been going to El Fenix since the 80s disappointing because they read the order back to me every single time like I order it but it never is right El Fenix I guess should know how bad there to go Communications are lacking I guess El Fenix is just going to be a memory of my childhood cuz I give up

According to the restaurant s website, El Fenix has been in business since 1918. Now there are 14 restaurants across the metro area serving delicious Tex-Mex cuisine. I first visited the original El Fenix in Dallas in 1990 and this was my first visit to the Plano restaurant. The restaurant is colorfully decorated. The chips (with salsa) were really good. I ordered the El Jefe Plate. It was a lot of food 3 enchiladas, 1 beef tamale, 1 crispy beef taco, rice and refried beans. The chicken enchilada with sour cream sauce was so good! I highly recommend the sour cream sauce. I have photos of the dishes ordered by my dining companions but I cannot remember what they ordered. They said their orders were very tasty. We arrived during happy hour so I ordered a frozen margarita for $6. It was very good! For true Tex-Mex, El Fenix is my go-to.

This place doesn t deserve 5 stars, it needs 10. I ordered the charbroiled steak street tacos, and it came within 15 minutes. We were served by Armando, who was very nice. Once I took a bite of the tacos, I knew I was in for a wonderful dining experience. The steak was cooked to perfection, the cilantro and onions adding into the medley of flavors. For desert, I ordered the lemon ice box pie, which also came within 5 minutes. Once I bit into the triangle of sour lemon and graham cracker crust, I immediately dropped my fork, looking to the heavens above as god himself had blessed this pie with his care. It was the BEST pie I have ever eaten, with the lemon adding a nice complexity of sour and sweet flavors, and the graham cracker crust adding a nice crunch. Needless to say, it was a wonderful experience.

This is not a 5 star restaurant, so dont go expecting the best. For some reason, this is my parents favorite place to go. They visit every Thursday without fail. I humor them and go with them when I am in town. It is not bad food by all means, but I have had better. The staff is always friendly. This was the single worst dining experience I have ever had at a restaurant. I hadn t been to this location in five years, and it has gone totally downhill. From the bad and very slow service, to the table that was right under a window where we were burning up at (it was 100 degrees outside) and had the sun in our eyes the whole time, even with the see through shades down. The food was not good, from the warm beer and very stale chips to the meals we ordered and the margarita. Also, the host was unbelievably rude to my husband when we got there as well as when we paid our bill. The experience left us deeply regretting going there and spending our money and wasting our time. We will never go to any El Fenix again after this.

Took the whole family out for dinner. Had been here before and wanted the kids to try it. Its a really good place. Classic Mexican dishes no surprises no frills. Super nice staff lots of tables and seating, fun decor. Younger kids had tamales and enchiladas. Older kids had fajitas. We had chips with salsa and queso for an appetizer which was good. Wife got the fish tacos and I got steak fajitas. Overall a good place not terribly expensive we did try the flan for dessert which my wife thought was mostly disappointing. But when youve had authentic or homemade flan thats difficult to compare to.

I was visiting from out of town and found this place did not deliver well on TexMex. Margaritas were watered down lemonade and no prices displayed for the special Pina colada. Wait staff was slow and inexperienced, and I feared they would spill our drinks multiple times. The taco salad was made with great lettuce and topped well. We have been eating at El Fenix since we moved to Dallas in 1972. We have also lived in Austin, San Antonio and Houston. No Mexican Restaurant serves Cheese enchiladas and chicken tortilla soup as good as yours. No employee has ever been as wonderful as your manager Mary. Food

Easy parking off the highway. Nice atmosphere, not as noisy as suspected. The Guacamole was exceptional as well as the cheese dip, oh and the CHIPS are so light and crispy! The best in a long while. We will be back because the prices are just right. Food

The service was perfect and the decor is very novelty but the food was not good. The food is very greasy and is comparable to elementary school fair food. This includes the chips and salsa. If you come here for yourself, I recommend avoiding the Botana Sampler.

Long time top place for Mexican food, it would be nice if the wait staff was quicker to take away used dishes, and also just start out every one with water the same time chips and salsa are served, it was quite a while before we were able to put in drink orders after we got there and having shifts and saucity with no drinks was a little unpleasant
