Very good and rich. Very affordable price. You have to pay attention to what to ask for. The sandwiches are not very filling. However, if you order some eggs in the style you want, those are well served. Characteristically they serve you in old-style iron pans. A highly appreciated detail in a time of rush and consumption.

I believe first impressions are important in a establishment if it s your first time. Upon ordering the long haired male with glasses was beyond RUDE. I also believe in bad days but all that should happen outside of work. Me and my husband did not deserve the attitude given by this gentleman. Besides from that the food was great. Especially the biscuits and gravy such a interesting take on it and it was my husbands favorite. If you don t want to deal with the attitude and unpleasant greeting then I recommend the option for take out.

I will start off by saying the food was amazing. The tomato bisque thing I ordered was amazing and the beans are great. It seems the guys behind the counter are just going through the motions of taking orders. Not one smile or laugh of any kind. Nothing but straight faced, get on with order type vibes. Other than that the place was good.

This place is truly amazing. The ambiance and service are great. The staff is very welcoming and helpful, especially when its your first time visiting. And the best part of course the the food. The portions and price work really well. Not only does the food taste amazing but the gravy they serve with it makes everything taste even better. Honestly it is the best gravy I have ever tasted. I am already planning to get some for holiday dinners. Bird wise this location is in the city so you get the usual birds like Great-tailed Grackles and Mourning Dove. But sometimes you can get lucky with a Swainsons Haek flyover.

Tried it out for the first time today after realizing that theyre right next to my barber. I had the spicy chilequiles...good stuff!! I felt like my hunger was satiated. The food is very homestyle cooking..I got a bit emotional because it reminded me of my late grandmas cooking! Im definitely coming back! :)

I absolutely hate the idea of first pay and tip us and then go sit and wait for your food style restaurants, call me old fashioned but I like the waitresses serving you with smile , getting you refills an actual full blown restaurant. This just seems lazy on the owners part, no I don t think I would come back , I don t care how good the food is, and this is just my opinion.

A Hidden Gem!!! If youre on the hunt for the perfect brunch spot, look no further than Cast Iron Cafe. This cozy little restaurant is a hidden gem that delights with every visit. The moment you step inside, youre greeted by a warm and inviting atmosphere. The menu offers a fantastic selection of both classic and creative brunch dishes. Whether youre in the mood for a fluffy stack of french toast or something more adventurous like their unique cast-iron skillets (chilaquiles), you wont be disappointed. The ingredients are fresh, and the flavors are spot on. The service is another standout aspect of Cast Iron Cafe. The staff is attentive, friendly, and always ready with a smile. They make you feel welcome from the moment you walk through the door, adding to the overall positive experience. The cafe is small, which adds to its charm. Trust me, its worth it! In short, Cast Iron Cafe is a must-visit for anyone who loves a great brunch. The combination of delicious food, excellent service, and a cozy atmosphere makes it a place you ll want to return to again and again. Highly recommend!

UPDATE: since my initial visit I have gone 3 more times. THE PEOPLE HERE HAVE AN EXTREMELY SASSY ATTITUDE. It feels almost like I owe them something, borderline entitlement, and I do not know why. I literally had a I will have the last word argument. SO PETTY! What a pity! I liked their food, but the attitude is too much! I will NOT go back. If you want to feel like you owe them something even after paying for your food, then go right ahead. ORDER THEN SIT. I recommend you grab a table and someone else orders. Asked for Monte Cristo, 2 waffle combos, biscuit and gravy, and chicken fried steak. Everything was delicious, the biscuit in the gravy is delicious even by itself. Waffle was light, airy, and crispy.( I wish they had some salted butter on the dish). Monte cristo was crispy and grilled to perfection, cheese melted, and crispy bacon. The jam seals the deal! Chicken fried steak crispy, battered to perfection, not bulky, meat was on point. Fresh squeezed orange juice was great. Coffee was good, wish it was a tad stronger. Asked for Americano with steamed heavy cream, it was double shot in a 12 oz cup. Had to ask for a third shot and get back in line again. Asked if I could please skip the 30 minute line being I had just been in line for 30 minutes, 2 people said no. All I needed was a shot of espresso. I was upset (on the inside.)My Americano was getting cold now. I got in line. Was in line for about 10 minutes and decided to ask the barista the same question, explained I had already been in line, and I just needed another shot and my Americano was getting cold. She said, absolutely, here, its on the house! She saved the day for sure! If it had not been for her, I really would have been disappointed with my service experience. The server who was delivering food was very courteous and quick, he was attentive and extremely polite. Loved his vibe! The establishment really is clean. And the vibes are really cool. Some CONSTRUCTIVE criticism: It was our first time here and we were lost. It would be great if you had a How We Work poster or sign saying something like 1. Order your food, 2. Find a table, 3. Grab all your table items ie. salt, ketchup, silverwear, napkins, etc. from the condiment section 4. Enjoy your food

Sigh* Another week, another not so positive review for a local business. Well, lets pull off the bandaid and get into it. A breakfast and lunch place only, we split the difference and went mid-morning for a brunch time meal. Before getting to the menu and food, lets talk about service. The ladies at the cash register were very patient, very friendly, and very helpful with our questions. The score for service does not reflect on them personally but rather the setup itself. There is no traditional waitstaff. You order at a register, then find a seat. From there, its basically self-service. You get your own utensils, your own napkins, your own condiments, and even your own drinks. That doesnt have to be a deal breaker on its own, but if youre an elderly person or someone with special needs, it might be inconvenient. As for the food, the full menu is available all day. We both had the chicken fried steak with white gravy and although they come served with a side of ranch potatoes, basically breakfast potatoes with ranch dressing on top, we both decided to go with plain potatoes. There are no mashed potatoes, FYI, but the oneswe had were tender enough that you could mash them yourself if thats your perogative. The steaks themselves were alright, though I had to trade with my mother since hers was tougher to cut through and eat, and mine was more tender, so a little inconsistent in the cooking. The crust was crispy and adhered well. The gravy, oh boy, the gravy. So, served on the side, do not expect a traditional creme gravy. The ones we had were dark, and the emulsion was starting to break. Im not sure how they prepared it, but it was very greasy, clumpy, and really overwhelming. I thought it was way too salty, while my mother said hers had too much garlic. Regardless, we both had the sensation of the greasy gravy on our lips and the scent on our breath all the way home. The atmosphere is also fine but not great. Located in the old Irmas Sweet Shop building, its pretty much kept the exact same wood cabin motif. Its a warm atmosphere, but in my personal opinion, it could use a refresh. Chairs were almost impossible to slide in and out on that floor. So yeah, not a great first experience. I would probably be willing to go back at least once more and try their breakfast as some of those options seemed interesting. Wheelchair accessibility: Long ramp to the right of the entrance.

We used to go to CastIron on the weekends, this last one I ordered a salad, it was disappointing, some badly cut pieces of lettuce falling off the plate, the dressing was not the house vinaigrette that the menu says, it was a simple bottle ranch , the burnt sweet potato cubes; When I told the waiter that I had a comment, HE PUT GETA and told me - if you want, I can bring you a bigger plate that can fit the lettuce I think his ATTITUDE bothered me more than the salad!!!

It s a smallish place, but it wasn t packed so we sat down immediately. Prices are pretty affordable. They give you a number and your food is taken to you. Menus are also attached to a clipboard which is unique. The food was tasty. The barista recommended a drink (posted but I forgot the name). I also got the diamond waffles and my siblings got chilaquiles and one added egg to theirs.

On our first visit to Cast Iron Cafe, we experienced a bustling atmosphere with limited seating, yet found the hipster and casual ambiance to be charming. The staff, despite the busyness, were friendly and communicative. However, we couldnt help but feel that the food fell slightly short of expectations. Perhaps it was the busy time, but we believe theres room for improvement in this area. Nevertheless, with its charming ambiance and welcoming service, Cast Iron Cafe still earns a solid four stars in our book. Heres to hoping our next visit brings even more delights!

I went there with my family, but I wasnt impressed, with the food or service, the soft drinks are 12 Oz cans no cups or ice with it at 3.25 each, the chicken fried steak became undone while cutting it the breading separated from an unseasoned and bland steak, the gravy was greasy, the chilaquiles saved the day. The waiter showed a complete lack of customer service skills, and no desire to help people. I had to fix the wobbly table myself.

I rushed to finish my meal and as soon as I took the last bite the waitress was already behind me with a spray bottle and a rag waiting for me to get up so she could wipe my spot down. Then she walked me to the door and let me out and proceeded to lock it immediately.

It s always nice to see when new breakfast spots open up in different parts of the RGV, and this one was a solid visit. The food was overall good. There could be a bit more effort in the quality or presentation but I would come back to try it again. The fruit was not fresh. The coffee was decent. The general vibe was friendly although a little bit chaotic. The food also took about 30 mins to come out, since it was a packed Saturday. There are areas that could be elevated but this was a good choice for breakfast in Pharr.

Wow - not many brunch places anymore that aren t a chain or super-greasy food, and Cast Iron Cafe is one of those rare gems. Their chicken and waffles were amazing - not stodgy, not too much fries crust, almost like a chicken-fried steak covering a good-sized, well-cooked waffle. We also had the vanilla shake, topped off with a generous dollop of whipped cream. These sure filled up my swimmer who was down here for the regional meet. For me, I had migas which comes with refried beans and fried potatoes. The cappuccino came in a REAL mug!! Portions and prices were excellent. I loved how they had a 6-foot shelf of hot sauces and other condiments to choose from. Staff was plentiful and busy but efficient. Vreat job, Guys!!! Parking: Typical downtown angled parking both along the curb and in the centre of the road. Nearby parking lot and some side street parking.

Only thing I wish they had was the option to build your own and substitutions. Sometimes I am not in the mood for potatoes, so having the option of a different side would be nice. Or the choice of adding beef to the chiliaquiles would be nice. Little things like that, which as they grow I hope they keep in mind for picky eaters such as myself. Im not very well versed in coffee and usually only order speciality stuff if I can immediately read it off the menu so right out the bat the staff was so sweet and patient in answering my questions. I was able to order a 16oz Horchata coffee with oatmilk and oh my godddddd!! It was amazing! Super tasty, the syrup is made in house, and the presentation was great. The batista who made the syrup was also the one taking our order and I liked that she was able to tell us what was in there. I ordered the diamond waffles and my friend got us an order of biscuits and gravy to share. My food was really good! Presentation was very cute. I liked that they had a variety of fresh fruits on the waffles. The scrambled egg was nice too. The real star of the show was the biscuits and gravy. By the first bite you know its homemade with care. Its so buttery and rich, just down right delicious. Im usually not a fan of ultra savory things but this was just the best. If I knew it was this good, I wouldnt have bothered ordering anything else. I was glad that we could tell the owner this directly as he was walking around talking to guests. The owner, Omar, was incredibly nice and great to talk to. He really makes the atmosphere more inviting. I love supporting local restaurants because of people like him. Overall this is such a nice place with great food and even better service! Cant wait to go back and get more food!!

My wife stated the hot chocolate had a weird taste which I confirmed. The bacon could have been cooked more or possibly just request crispy bacon. I did have the need to ask for more butter from 2 different employees until I received it. The only disappointment was that the Espresso machine was down. WOW!! Blown away by this place! As we were walking in, there was drawings on the sidewalk with a bucket of chalk that guests can use to draw which I thought was so cool. We were greeted immediately upon arrival and they explained how the ordering process works. It s different because you pick up a menu and order at the bar, are given a number then go to your table. They have a condiment section where you grab your utensils, napkins, cream and sugar, water cups, etc. We waited about 15 mins for our food and were not disappointed! I ordered the chilaquiles which came with refried black beans, roasted potatoes and toast. I asked for some scrambled eggs to be added and a side of homemade jam. It was pretty spicy, but the flavor was so good. I was hesitant about the black beans at first, but they were delicious. My boyfriend ordered the steak and eggs. The meat was cooked the way he liked and had a nice flavor. The home run though was the raspberry jam. Y all, it was AMAZING! I had to share with my boyfriend because it was that good! I also ordered some orange juice. It was NATURAL ORANGE JUICE! Definitely was not as sweet as we re used to it being, but I was blown away with how good it tasted. That is a must order for sure! Service was 10/10. Everyone was so kind. They even came around to make sure we were enjoying our food and I got to have a conversation with the manger. He told me they had only been open for about 6 months, and I was only upset because I hadn t heard of this place sooner. Only downside is the space feels a little cramped. If you go during a rush, you may not find a table. Every business starts somewhere though! Absolutely love the vibe of this place! Will 100% be back again and will be telling all my friends and family!

If you like spicy brunch the chilaquiles are to die for. Dont look at all the negative reviews they probably ordered some typical American food everyone cries about in the valley. Order a latte and some really nice Mexican brunch food you wont regret it! Also if you really like to food ask to thank the chef. I met chef Omar and he is a really nice and sincere guy. Hope you enjoy!

First time goers....it was a little different.... You need to grab a menu, then go to the Order Here line and place your order, pay, you get a number then sit, and wait for your food and drinks. The bottled water and bottled drinks you get them yourself.....we did not know that... the hot drinks they serve them. Once you get your meal and hot drinks, there is a section for the self-served condiments. The food was good, the prices are too. I ordered the diamond waffle and some chilaquiles. The waffle was best, the chilaquiles not so much for my taste. We also ordered French toast plate. They serve a hashbrown puck, not traditional hashbrows....not really a fan of them.. they were meh so were the potatoes from chilaquiles. They were kinda soggyish..The coffee was not so great either. We tried the house coffee and pour over and both were super bitter. Plenty of parking. Overall, come for the food not the coffee. NOTE - The address says Park Ave. but the street change names to New Combes Ave. so your GPS may or may not find it. Parking: Plenty of parking if you go at the right time

Today I had lunch at Cast Iron Café in Pharr after hearing so many good things about it. Wanted to like this place but the food was so bland and not flavorful I could not finish the food and left mid meal. Paid $19.75 for Chicken and Waffles and a Oat milk Latte, the Latte was good no complaints there but the chicken was way over seasoned and over battered to make up for the slither of chicken given. Waffle wasn t exciting and lacked taste, bacon was fine. There are way better options for chicken and waffles in the McAllen area. I feel like this place could be much better and the seating could be way improved. I believe in quality over quantity and don t mind paying more for better food but with competitors like Lou s Brunch and Brews and Casa Madre it sucks to be oversold and underdelivered. Maybe my experience was a one off and maybe you will have a better visit, I However won t be going back. Pics for reference.

Overall the food was pretty good. Personally I wasn t a fan of the self serve. The staff seemed kind of whatever in the front. I don t feel like it s your traditional place to get breakfast. Meaning it s not family oriented. There was only like 1 or 2 high chairs and unfortunately both were used. The ambience feels very hipster/gen z. I think it s geared for the younger crowd. Overall it s decent but wouldn t recommend for a family breakfast.

Walked in a It looked like it has ALOT of potential. Only to be disappointed again and again. If your opening a new restaurant and someone walks in for the first time you would think the staff would actually explain things to you. THIS is not a typical CAFE. You will NOT get table side service. We walked in with another couple in the same predicament. After 5 minutes were told to grab a menu from the front and Come back to order at the cash register. The other couple just walked out. Left the menus on the table. My wife being excited to try a new restaurant convinced me to give it a try. Thats when things started spiraling down. You have to get all your condiments from the bar. Another thing WE were not told until after our food came out. You have 4 people behind the counter 1 cashier and 3 others goofing off. Its not that hard to check in. Ask how were doing or if everything came out. WRONG again. There was an older couple that got their food and literally LEFT IT AT THE TABLE UNTOUCHED! Yes ! Exactly! Oh well Another one bites the dust!. Food did look good, but thats about it

What I loved is that even though they were busy all the food came out at the same time!! (Great Job!!) Their orange juice is fresh squeezed and looked amazing! It is a self service restaurant so you order at the counter but everything you could possibly need is right behind you Including about 20 different hot sauces.
