1 star review due to the fact that it portrays that it is open to the public, though, when I put my GPS to guide me to get this post, it was gated/blocked off to the public . How are we supposed to visit this landmark? Make an appointment?

The capture site of Santa Anna during the Texas Independence war. About 13 miles from the Battle of San Jacinto. There is a stone marker and a small park here with picnic tables on the edge of the San Jacinto river. You can fish here, but I wouldnt eat anything caught here.

I love this place, not many know of it; The approximate capture site of Santa Anna, the General of the Mexican army during the battle of San Jacinto. General Sam Houston fighting to get Texas back from Mexico, quietly led his men into the camp site of Santa Annas army in the very early morning and was able to overcome their army by surprising them when they least suspected it. Santa Anna during the attack escaped disguised as a soldier and managed to get approximately here where General Sam Houston and his men found and captured him. This Historical marker can be found on the Eastside of Houston at the Washburn tunnel on the Pasadena side, Texas.

Good place to have picnic since they clean it up and added landscaping, benches. You can fish here also but I recommend catch and release due to chemical plant and barge traffic. This place will stay nice if the people would clean up behind themselves!

I think its a refreshing landmark. Not to flashy but definitely noticable and it marks an important turning point in Texas history. The water is rather brown but the scenery is very calm and nice. The only complaint I have is the copious amount of urbanization built around the site with all the chemical plants around it. Without those it would be way better in terms of the view and scenery. But, other than that, its really nice.

The stone marker was set in 1916 and it was on farmland farmed by relatives of Linda Conard. She sent a photo and reports this: The man at the head of the bull is my great grandfather, Joseph Morgan Cruse and the woman on the side of the bull with hand on it is my great grandmother Zella Gregg Cruse. When the marker was set, the Ship channel did not exist, it was still just Buffalo Bayou.

Neat to get to see where Santa Anna was captured after the battle of San Jacinto. It was hard to find though as you have to drive bedside the Washburn tunnel and it looks as if you are somewhere you arent supposed to be. We had to drive around like crazy people to find it as the signs to its location disappear and you are left to guess where its at. Thats the reason it doesnt get 5 stars. I do also wish there was a fence at the waters edge because if a kid fell in there is nowhere to get out since theres a concrete ledge there.

This is a cool place that kids will learn something about in Texas history. Its tucked out of the way and probably not well known to many people. Its a quick visit if youre in the area. When heading North on Shaver St. do not stay left and enter the tunnel. Veer to the right and follow the road to the water. You will see the parking area for the monument.
