This is really a historical marker in Odessa dinning. I spent many birthdays here growing up. Took 1st dates as a teenager and my current wife of 20 years spend some anniversary celebrations here. Its a calm semi quite nice place to have a nice meal with a date or you special family occasion.

Good place to eat. The serving staff was not trained very well but at least I received my food. This was our 4th time there in 4 weeks. Spent $75-200 every time. Filet Mignon isnt listed here. Thick steak is good but could not come to the appropriate temperature throughout.

I am so disappointed and honestly, Im sad. After Roy sold this hometown staple, the new owner is taking shortcuts and it shows. After years of coming here and enjoying the food, service and atmosphere...I wont be going back. First of all, there was a large puddle of water on the floor. The owner said it would be taken care of, but we finally had to move the table over after we noticed my wifes dress was wet. Then our guest from out of town ordered bbq ribs. About 10 minutes later, the waitress came back and said they were out. Not a huge deal. Then we waited another 45 minutes for the food to come out **and when it did** my prime rib was so thin and flimsy I couldnt cut it. I had to stretch that stringy piece of so called prime rib to try and eat it. Never mind! The sirloins that we ordered were fatty and were pale in comparison to the flavor of the sirloins weve had in the past. The mac&cheese was so sticky that Kraft would have been FAR superior. What an embarrassing end to a promising evening with our out-of-town guest. I sure miss Roy and I will miss what The Barn Door & Pecos Depot once was.

Food is always good. Always short staffed and takes 20+ mins just to get drinks, and about 40 to get your appetizer. Prob won t be coming back to this place until management gets the right people in place. The waitresses aren t horrible just overworked and this gives the customer a horrible experience. No server should be handling 6-8 tables per person at one given time.

Calamari are very tough and chewy not fresh at all seems like its a day old Calamari. Mash potatoes are not as fresh and texture and looks is weird. Overall were not impressed. The only thing that impressed me is the sweet young lady in the front desk shes nice and helpful.

The food is just okay. The joint is somewhat historic but feels old and not in a cozy way. I ordered a bacon cheeseburger (I was not asked what temperature I wanted the patty... not a good sign!). The meat was overcooked and dry, but the bacon and veg were nice. The fries were cooked well and seasoned correctly. The cheesecake was large and tasty, but the strawberry topping was from a can. If it wasnt for my buddy wanting to eat here, I would have gone elsewhere.

We went on a Friday night and were immediately greeted and seated by a friendly host. Bread and butter: Very good. Appetizer: Calamari Super thick and meaty calamari with great flavor. It battered and fried along with jalapeños, peppers, and onions served with a nice sauce. Ribeye steak: Cooked to perfection, topped with coarse salt and pepper. Chicken fried steak: It was good for cfs but I d recommend getting the steak instead. Loaded baked potato: Nothing special about it. It was a good size, perfectly tender, and had good toppings. Macaroni and cheese: DO NOT RECOMMEND! Tasted like boxed Velveeta mac&cheese that had been sitting out for a few hours. Didn t eat more than a bite. Just order something else. Our sever was very short with us, didn t check on us, refill our drinks quickly, or bring out our food. She acted very busy for no reason. All the other servers around seemed to be doing a great job though. Parking: Plenty of parking spots located in front of the restaurant Kid-friendliness: We went to dinner on a Friday evening and there were plenty of families. We even had a whining/crying baby at times and it wasn t an issue.

I am not a critical individual, but I am need to leave this in hopes that the owners or management address this instance for their employees and future guests. Reserved for a party of 32. They knew we were coming. Knowing this, how does any restaurant manager justify 1 server for over 30 people? The result was that the service was horrible!! I DO NOT blame the server. Drinks ran dry, food was Luke warm, sides were missing. Some folks were done eating b4 the last person received their food, people were having to get up and go get their own alcoholic beverages, and that took 10 minutes in some cases. Again, I DO NOT BLAME the server or staff. Our server worked her tail off, but come on, we were a 32 top. In defense, some other servers did assist here and there, they were all very pleasant. I got up to see how busy the restaurant was. Maybe 3 tables in the whole restaurant, multiple servers standing around talking. Where was management? Management never came buy to see how things were going, never did a walk by, plain old MIA. At one point, someone came into the room we were in and handed our director the bill, 10 second exchange, and left. We had a room of empty glasses, piled plates, and waiting to give dessert orders (we had already negotiated the menu options). No one came to prebus. I wont even go into detail as to the statusrebus. Mens restroom. Overall, Im not impressed, average food, poor service, cleanliness poor. Management is absent, which is unfortunate for the server who waited on us, and lets not address what that means to the patrons.

We are back here in 2024, and still find this a great place for a meal. We were here in the afternoon, bring your appetite. The bread and cheese were great and were brought as we were seated. The Haystack- very light and crispy onion rings were great. The meal was excellent. If you re hungry this place is for you! Wheelchair accessibility: The parking lot to door is pretty flat and the interior dining area is one level.

Before the restaurant was sold, we would ALWAYS go to the Barn Door for any special occasion. Great food, great service and great fun........ After it was sold - service is slow, food is delivered to your table cold. I had a BBQ rib experience that really pissed me off. They came back cold 3 times! Their salad entrees are filled with purple lettuce that tastes like dandelions and very little actual romaine and iceberg lettuce. After our last trip 2 weeks ago - we wont be back since its not worth the 1 hour drive to be disappointed..... again.

Tried again a year after I wrote this review. Even worse service than last time. Didnt even get seated. Hostess no where to be found, after 10 minutes called the restaurant and bus boy came up and said this isnt good then told the 4 of us would have to wait if we wanted to sit together, visible empty tables everywhere. Done with this place. Second time here and Im disappointed. We were seated quickly but it went downhill from there. Our server was obviously overwhelmed, and only attentive to the larger tables. 1 beer and 1 mixed drink took about 20 minutes to arrive. After 45 minutes we were informed of an error with our dinner order and they were getting it asap. All told it took over an hour to get 4 entrees while other tables seated after us had eaten. We may be back, but not for a while because of the slow service.

Never have I ever received such horrible service at Barn Door til last night ! We walked in and no one was in the front after 10mins of just standing there we finally got sat and it was just a table for 2 ! The waitress took 15 mins to come to our table to take our drink order we ordered appetizers and then ordered our food and our waitress was nowhere to be found since she left our appetizer we had to get up and get our own refills ! The waitress from the other side brought our food out to us , we ate and the waitress still was nowhere to be found I had to stop the hostess as she was walking by to ask where the waitress was cause she had not checked on us we had to get our own refills , she went to go look for her and could not find her either ! Saturday March 16, 2024 Over all the service stunk, the food was great except the baked potato, server kept passing us by, we ended up waiting an hour for our food because the waiter had a bigger table to accommodate (he told us)and two people were to much for him, (I m sure it was a bigger tip) three separate parties came in after the two of us, they all got waited on and served before we got our food. Waiter confessed he had put in the bigger party s food order before ours. (He apologized)Got seated right away, but our food came an hour later we got there 6:45, seated 2 minutes after we entered didn t leave the restaurant after 9 pm. I would have loved for this place to have received 5 stars across the board Ive always heard good things about this establishment. But when I go to a steak house I expect that Steak I order to be cooked like I order it the first time . When we received our Steaks my wife had a 12 oz ribeye ,my daughter had an 8 oz cut and I ordered the 12 oz Sirloin ; That being said I ordered my Steak Medium Rare , when I received the Steak I was shocked ! The cut was around 10 inches long and 2 to 3 inches wide in the middle which tampered down on both ends to abut 1 inches wide and was not 12 oz nor was it cooked Medium Rare it was Medium to Mid well and Medium rare at the middle . So while waiting for the server to return which was about 20 minutes I had my baked potato and salad . When the server returned I told her the issue and she was happy to replace it but by that time we were ready to go so I suggested it to go and she kindly obliged in fixing it as so . The point is we had to be in Odessa for my wife to go to a spine appointment which we drove from Ozona Texas to do an when we were finished we wanted a good meal before we left which my wife an daughter were pleased but it is my Birthday week and to start it off I got a not so good experience. The bread and cheese are good so that helped . I do hope if I do go back that I get a good Steak oh an Im not a ribeye guy I Like a good Sirloin ! Enjoy .

Major disappointment. Arrived around 6pm and was seated right away. Waited for server, Jasmine, for awhile before putting in our drink order. Ordered a 12oz ribeye medium. There was another long wait between our food and appetizer and we never saw Jasmine during this time either. Someone else brought out our food and I cut into the steak. It was well done and gray in the middle. At this point I was done. I sat there and watched the guy on the grill play on his phone while tons of meat was cooking on the grill. I also saw 2 tomahawk steaks, those are 70 bucks each mind you, get sent back. I said I did not want anything else and to take it back. The manager came and tried to go pull someones elses food off the grill to give to me. I had to get stern with her to refuse the meal. The waitress settled our bill and never said another word to us. We did not get out of there until after 8pm and without a steak dinner. Do not recommend! IHOP has better reviews.

I had a good experience at this restaurant. It was my first time, the waitress was Samantha and she was on top of things. The atmosphere feels warm western style. The steak I ordered was cooked at the wrong temperature, but they did not have an problem doing another one. I ordered the sirloin at medium rare temperature, and it was superb. The flavor and juices were so good I didnt have to add any steak sauce, salt or pepper. I would definitely recommend.

It was a cute restaurant inside and out. Very county/Western style. The service wasnt bad, however I do think the server could have checked on us a bit more for our drinks. The food wasnt bad, but it wasnt good either. It certainly isnt worth the over charged price they give you for it, plus I had to send my steak back to be finished cooking. I will not hesitate to say a steakhouse chef should know 100% how to cook each steak to desire. Whether, rare, medium, medium rare/well etc. I knew the moment my fork touched it that the inside was going to be bright red, and I only do medium well. They dont seem to have an issue with kids in the restaurant, however other patrons will give you wild looks for not dressing up. The building was clean through our which is a big plus! Now, I also had to send the ribs back to be cooked. Ill give the benefit that maybe the cooks were tired from their lunch rush, but being a cook for years I think it could have gone over better.

Definitely not the best when it comes to food or the service. Our appetizer came out and didn t contain everything it was supposed to. We waited and waited for our server to come back and eventually just had to ask someone else for assistance. Our food came out in warm temperature but because our server put our food down, walked off and didn t come back until she asked if we were ready for the check, we weren t able to express how our food was. Tonight we had my boss s retirement dinner here and it was absolutely amazing. Initially the staff had set us up with two tables but they were quick to change it into one long table when asked if that was possible and they even help me set up some decorations for the occasion. Our server Christina was amazing as well and she took excellent care of us. Our food was delicious, our drinks stayed cold and she even helped us take some pictures at the end of the night. We are so thankful for her. I will say I ve never had bad service at The Barn Door but we could not have had a better server for the evening. We give not only the restaurant but also Christina ! Its been years since I have come and it jad always been great before bit this time was just an absolute disappointment. We saw our server a total of three times the entire time and she said maybe 10 words to us the whole time. We were never tild her name or properly greeted. She asked what we wanted to drink, brought us our drinks and then disappeared. We didnt see her for another 20 minutes when she asked for our food order and disappeared again. We waited for almost an hour and a half for our food and she wasnt even the one to bring it out. The guy that brought it out was nicer than our actual server. After that she came back to refill our drinks and didnt say a single word the entire time. The only time we saw her was when she dropped the check off and she barely said a word then. As a server at a much busier restaurant I would be ashamed to treat any guest that way. I will most likely never be eating here again.

The place is old and Dusty. One of the servers she is an older lady, was high as a kite, and very condescending with my son. She also smell like cigarettes. The steaks are horrible. The only thing we like with the bread and butter.

My husband and I wanted to see what the hype was about but I guess we caught the staff on a bad day. Its a nice little spot and it was not busy at all, but for whatever reason it took over an hour to get our food, all we got to eat was the bread and the appetizer we ordered. Our server or the cooks didnt looked to pleased to be there. We ended up having to take our meals to go only to find that it had no flavor. $90 for some questionable food and service. If we do decided to try this place again I hope we catch everyone in better spirits.

Been here many times. Still good food at a decent price. Great cut of prime rib cooked just right. Steak tips were done right too. Good meal, good service, just what you want. Had Greg as our waiter tonight, great job!

So the only reason I gave this place three stars. Was because of the service we received. They forgot to give us our A1 steak sauce. Then took them forever to get our refills. At one point the waitresses just stood there and were talking instead of helping people. There were people who were so mad they just got up and left. It took my husband to get up and go over to them for them to just get us our steak sauce. And they still forgot our Dr. Pepper refill. Had multiple waitresses come by and say sorry i forgot and they only brought us one out. They forgot the other 2. And we reserved a table and they sat us in the bar room. Which is ok. But still. It used to be a great place. The food is still amazing. But the quality of service was so bad.

It had been years since I ve been here with my family and recently my family and I gathered here for a get together. All of us walked away extremely disappointed. Our waitress was great and on top of things. I believe her name was Jasmine. However, all of us were not impressed with the quality of food! The steak was chewy and dry as well as the ribs and everyone else at the table said the same thing about the items they ordered. No flavor at all and extremely overpriced. They got rid of the cheese at the tables as well which was disappointing. They still offer bread however the bread was very dry. Overall we were all disappointed in the quality of good! Service was great to be clear, but I wont be back due to the poor quality of food.

Never saw server after she took our order. Food delivered by the hostess. When finished eating asked the hostess for the check and said our server disappeared. To her credit she said they had given her too many tables. Did tip 20% but will not return. Food: Prime rib dry and chewy.

I m so disappointed, I googled this place and it was a recommendation. When we arrived the hostess was friendly and we were seated immediately. We wait, and wait. And wait some more. Finally the waitress brings over bread and took our drink order. In a few minutes she shows up with the drinks and we were ready to order, but she was so fast to zip away we didn t get a chance to say we were ready to order. So we discussed walking out, but then I notice a man in a pink shirt get up from his table and go into the waitress room and proceed to refill the drinks from his table. A few minutes after that the guy next to us gets up and goes into the same room and digs around for straws. THEN another couple across from us had the table fall on his wife and they had sat just like we had with no one waiting on them. He grabbed our waitress and they were moved across the way. He had to flag down a waitress because no one bothered to wait on them. A manager walked by our table and smiled at us, we neither one smiled back. Then she saw that we still had menus. I said let me ask you if this is how this place works, and I proceeded to explain the situation with everyone waiting on their selves. She apologized and Went to the back, she talked to a tall guy and they both were watching us thru the window in the door. The waitress took our order and it took 10 minutes to arrive. My chicken Alfredo tasted like a Swanson tv dinner, and my husbands steak was good. We never saw another person in management and the waitress brought our ticket. I felt like they should of offered a discount, free dessert or something. But it s like they hid and waited until we were gone! We were not rude to anyone, we won t be back.

WOW!!! It s been years since we have been here and I don t know why. We had top notch service from Martel (the best we ve had in Odessa in a while). Everything we had was delicious. We would highly recommend! We had bread with butter and the famous block of cheese. I enjoyed the steak bit salad which was huge! I was only able to eat half. My husband had the 12oz ribeye with a loaded baked potato. He also enjoyed the old fashioned with Woodford bourbon. All so worth it! If we were still hungry we would have gotten a dessert, but we were stuffed. Martel knew we enjoyed it and said I ll see y all tomorrow.

The food was good however it wasnt until after we had received our food and had started eating that we were told about a power outage that had knocked out all of there systems and we could only pay in cash. Which then made me spend over 30 minutes to find a working atm to pay my bill. I also never received a bill since the system was down as well.

We were driving through on our trip and just found it. It was a quiet night. We had a very nice waiter and everything was excellent. It is higher priced because its a steakhouse, and the portions are bigger. We split an entree and ordered an extra side along with salads. There is no way to eat all the food by yourself on a normal night, and traveling with leftovers in the heat is not easy. Parking: Theres parking in front and behind plus along the Pecos Depot building side which is now a bar attached to the restaurant.

Zoey is such an amazing manager!!. I m actually not sure what her position is but every time we go she goes above and beyond! The service staff is also typically very friendly and respectful. Workers that are genuinely happy to be at work and just happy people make all the difference in where we choose to spend our money and in the overall experience. The food is also amazing. I had the bread pudding recently and oh my goodness! The buffet options at lunch are also amazing.

This was the worst food I have ever eaten in my life !!!! I was excited seeing on the menu the pan grilled chicken fried steak since most places where we are from , Fort Worth metro they ask deep fry them . I was super happy to find a places that cooked it the right way!! So when I got my plate first thing I did was take a hit of the mashed potatoes, the top of the potatoes was crystallized and crunchy like it was either not mixed from the powder potatoes all the way OR they were super old potatoes and had been sitting in the air. This was with every single bite that was in the outter part of the mashed potatoes. I was like okay well the potatoes aren t mixed ir really old. Second thing I did was take a bit of the fried okra, another one of my favorites. Every single bite, every one of them, the okra was tough!!!! How!????? I loved fried okra and eat it everywhere I go that offers okra but here every single piece was tough!! Like an uncooked raw green bean! I couldn t figure it out . Sad face , as fried okra is my favorite and it was really disappointing. Last I cut of a piece of the dried chicken, again!!! Every single dang bite was tough!!! Ughhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!! Every bite!!! So it wasn t a fluke every bite was freken tough ! I liked that the steak had very little breading and I can tell it was pan grilled .. that what was so sad. It could have been a really good steak but the was it was cooked or the cut of meat I don t know it was so tough!! Everything I ordered was horrible and I never complaine. I don t leave reviews, I m so laid back I most of the time go with it but here is the kicker , my poor husband who had a steak from here with me last night , got food poisoning and has been up all night puking. They really honestly just need to close this place day. It took our money, and made my husband sick. Just close the doors. Thank you, Bunny

It was a nice surprise to discover the Barn Door during my short stop in Odessa! The prime rib was very tasty, as well as the mashed potatoes side. Our waitress was nice and made us feel at home. No waiting time as we went in the middle of the week. Kinda old fashioned atmosphere, but in a good way as they keep everything clean and functioning. Ill definitely be back!
