Great place to study or come with a friend. Coffee is okay nothing crazy, it is overpriced and the coffee cup sizes are quite small, but they do have a lot of options with pastries. Overall I would definitely still recommend this place if you re looking for somewhere to sit, chill, study, etc. for a few hours.

Love the cozy atmosphere here. The staffs are customer oriented and do great work every time I go here. I only drink their tea or tea latte, so I can only speak for that portion but I can tell you that their tea leaves are excellent quality. They use whole tea leaves which taste far better compared to any store bought ones. This is a popular local spot so it gets packed quickly on weekends. This is a must go coffee shop if youre in the area.

Ive been coming to roots for the past 6 years, and I used to love it, however lately Ive noticed a steep decline in the quality of the coffee, the teas, the pastries, and even the service. not sure if this place has new owners or something but its not the same place I used to love.

I received great service. The honey lavender latte was okay and chocolate chip cookie was excellent! I was in and out within a few short minutes. I did review another persons comment about her child with disabilities mistreatment at this location after I had already visited, which is why I removed 1 star. Not sure I would feel comfortable bringing a special needs person into this location if staff do not have training, patience, and empathy for that population.

Lovely little coffee shop. Nice pastry options, smaller coffee selection. The hazelnut syruo has sugar alcohol in it (not liquor). If you are sensitive to that taste of that type of syrup you will.not enjoy it. I am not sure about other flavours. Vegetarian options: There are numerous pastries and snack options that are vegatarian. Parking: There is a large parking lot, however it is a very busy shopping centre. At certain times there may not be a spot directly in front of shop. Kid-friendliness: Nice shop, kid friendly options. Wheelchair accessibility: Nice wide aisles/spaces between tables.

Updated reviews: I loved the previous staff. They were amazing. However, there are two staff I have seen constantly feeling annoyed almost every time I ordered my drinks (reference to night shifts - two young ladies). If you dont want to work here, dont. Because you are running your customer experiences. Additional, seasonal lattes have been extremely off-putting flavors. I still come over here due to the atmosphere, and they do have a good cappuccino. To the Roots Owner(s), what happened to you all? You guys had such a great thing going. But your services and lattes have been declining the past year or so.

My first few experiences were great. Not sure what s changed recently, but a few weeks ago I got a soggy Sunrise Sandwich that completely fell apart when I tried to pick it up. (I ordered and ate it as soon as it came out). Then today I got a lumpy matcha latte with the powder stuck at the bottom of the cup. I usually like to go to local coffee shops so that s really what kept me coming back, but I ll be trying other local shops after this. If you still decide to check it out, try their baked goods and hot drinks. :)

Ive been coming to Roots for the last nine years and it has been by far my very favorite coffee shop. Over the last year, though, the NRH location has really lost its vibe and has almost completely new staff who are less friendly. I appreciate gluten free options, but theyve basically taken over the whole bakery case and are only okay compared to what they replaced. Basically Im in mourning for what Roots used to be a few years ago and am reluctantly starting to look for a new go-to.

Well appointed, chill place. Coffee is fresh - like, really fresh and robust. Beans are roasted to perfection, and fast comes through in the flavor of all of their coffee drinks. The people that work there are sweet and patient, even with people who are strangers to the world of coffee. Love their sandwiches and pastries, too. You cant miss with anything they offer at Roots. Food options are great. Lots of vegan bakery items and gluten free. Dont order a hot latte. They have over steamed my latte the last 4 times Ive been in there and its way too hot to drink when I get it. Id say its about 155° F or more. Ideal latte temp in a Togo cup would be about 135°-140° for ideal drinking temp. Owner just take note. Thanks! Dietary restrictions: Multiple Gluten free and vegan options available in the bakery items.

(This is an update to my initial review) I went to Roots for years until my son with intellectual disabilities was treated poorly. I talked to the manager at the time. What she told me about his behavior was laughable. It was innocuous comments from someone who is intellectually and developmentally disabled. My son has a communication disorder, which should be obvious to anyone who talks to him for a few minutes. He had only gone back to Roots a few times recently for the first time in years. He was sitting there eating his sandwich and said he overheard someone talking badly about him. Out in the open where other customers can hear! Then before he knows it, a police officer is approaching him. I have filed an open records request for the officers body cam footage. I talked to another officer and he told me the report said that my son had done NOTHING WRONG last Saturday. My son is NOT a threat to anyone. He has NEVER made any threats to anyone. Hes NEVER stalked, NEVER assaulted, NEVER harassed ANYONE. He is a good, kindhearted, compassionate person who would NEVER hurt anyone. If hes anything, hes a protector. My son is friends with a former Roots employee. Hes been to this guys parents house for parties, been to Bible studies with this friend. There is something called the Americans with Disabilities Act that Roots staff should be aware of. My son is one of the kindest people I know. Im not. Im the mother of a son with special needs and I am very protective of him because of people like the staff at this Roots location. Because of his disabilities, for the rest of my life I will need to be his advocate. BTW, my son spent the first eight years of his life in a Romanian orphanage. I adopted him from Romania 25 years ago. Ive learned that many people are uncomfortable around people with disabilities, esp intellectual ones. The barista could have asked my son to leave. She did NOT need to call the cops when he wasnt doing anything wrong. The fact that he was treated this way is absolutely pathetic. If anyone thinks calling the cops on someone with who has ID instead of talking to the person and kindly asking them to leave, then IMO, you are the problem, not my son. You know what he said to me? It confused me. I was just talking like a human being.

To start, in regards to the products, the have many vegetarian, some vegan, and some gluten free options for foods as well as non-dairy options for milk. About the atmosphere and service, Ive been a frequent patron of Roots since 2016 and the whole time theyve maintained a level of excellence in quality of coffee and atmosphere. The beans used in house (Novel Coffee Roasters) are absolutely fantastic and their practices of making the drinks provides top tier quality and taste every time. As for the atmosphere, the staff, though its changed through the years, has always been kind, friendly, helpful, and full of great conversations. Moreover, theyve often been available to speak to and take action on customers who are putting a damper on the atmosphere or causing issues. I recommend Roots to literally any and everyone I possibly can.

Seemed to be a hive of students busily tapping away on their laptops, like I was, so it was a relaxed low key vibe. Just what I was looking for. Wishing I d discovered this place a week earlier. Good job guys, will definitely recommend to my work colleagues heading over soon.

My overall score is in no way a reflection on the employees! They were welcoming and naturally friendly! But this is the kind of place that attracts a certain type of croud and that croud let us know we werent welcome. I was laughing at some joke from my friend when I opened the door and immediately got some hard nasty looks from the group in the couch sitting area right by the door. One of the women there was all over this guy sitting next to her and I guess we interrupted them? Idk, but this isnt my scene. We did still order, and we did still sit at a table. The 2 employees there were great! We ordered a chai latte blackberry latte, and a honey vanilla latte. They were just okay which was a disappointment given how pomp there was to everything on the menu. I had the blackberry latte and you could taste sweet, but no blackberry. Oh well. Kid-friendliness: If my experience is typical, do not bring kids. Youll feel like someones glaring a hole in your head and the kids will be bored.

This shop isn t for anyone looking for specialty coffee. No espresso options, just another burnt blend, dark roast playing pretend with the notes. Refused to extract anything else. No single origin, no serious pour overs maybe a good drip if you re lucky. They may have some interesting beans but with no extraction game to go along with them it s pointless. Milk, they don t use good alternatives, no good oats like an oatly or minor figures. Cannot recommend.

I ve been here a few time because I really want to love it. The atmosphere is cozy and intimate with plenty of comfy couches or tables. This is one of my favorite places to study. I just can t get around the prices and quality of the drinks though. I m not a coffee drinker so I always go for teas. Their chai has to be the worst I ve ever had while being one of the most expensive. I spent 6 dollars on a large which was around 16oz. I got a small (12oz) jade dream tea which is just a tea bag in hot water for over four dollars. I couldn t even finish it it was so nasty (which may just be my personal taste). I never buy from Starbucks so maybe I m just used to paying 4 dollars for any kind of large (24 oz) drink but I just can t get around these prices.

I ve been here dozens of times. For a long time, it was the only good coffee shop in the area. They have a fantastic menu and high-quality drinks. It s always delicious. First two stars earned! So why only two stars? The customer service here is pretty awful. I get coffee shops trying to have a cool, hipster vibe. But once it gets to straight up rude, unappreciative of their customers, and seemingly very angry staff, it s just not worth it anymore. Unless this gets fixed, we will go to the other new great coffee shops in the area. I m not sure why it s so hard to get a smile at this place or a thank you. If I were the owner, I would consider cleaning house (with few exceptions) and starting all over. They ve got the product spot on, but the people who sell and interact with customers need to enhance the experience not detract from it.

I come in here at least once a week and the staff are always very kind and helpful when I have any sort of questions or need suggestions. Julia and Sparrow are always here and have memorized my order by now. The baristas make my drinks and food to perfection every time without fail. Will continue to make my weekly visits and recommend this place to anyone looking for a reliable coffee house!

Want to give this a full five stars, but had a bit of an issue that was a little frustrating. Spent a wonderful few hours enjoying a delicious Honey Vanilla iced latte, followed by a hot Lavender Honey latte. The atmosphere is awesome, with lots of great seating. The only negative came when I wanted a final drink to wrap up. They offer drip with two refills for the same price as a pour over. I ordered two hours before they closed, so I figured I had plenty of time to take advantage. They stated that they do not brew drip after a certain time, which totally makes sense. What is unfortunate is that there was no offer to consider even one refill, even though I mentioned why I was going to order the drip option. This is no reason to avoid this place. It is fantastic and I will definitely be back. Edited to add the fifth star. My pour over was delicious. No shop should be penalized for putting this much effort into their craft.

What a cool place! I loved the breakfast items and coffee. I usually get more ounces for my dollar BUT the coffee was that much better and it was a wash. Thursday staff was way more cordial than today. Yes I came 2 days running. I hope to make it back at some point.
