We took our 11 and 3 year old this weekend. The tent sites were clean and we noticed a park patrol I believe coming through the area every so often. It felt really safe great for a first time camping trip we ll definitely do another trip Toilets: The bathrooms were basic but clean. Make sure you bring shower shoes if you need to shower there.

Overall we had a good experience, great hiking trails, the camping spaces where comfortable and we felt safe. There are 2 reasons I didnt rate 5 stars, first, when you put the address that is given in your park permit it takes you to the incorrect place! the worst part is they know about this issue and have done nothing to correct it. We had to call a few times to ask for directions. Second reason, it was pouring rain when we arrived, we reserved a camp site and the parking spaces are far from the camping sites, we have 2 kids under 5 years old so we parked very close to the camp site only to unload the car, we were the only family in the site, we werent bothering anybody, well.... the park ranger VERY RUDE demanded we move the car immediately and couldnt care less about the kids, he couldve make an exception because of the rainy situation but no. We ended up completely soaked but luckily didnt get sick. Dont expect the park Rangers to have any considerations on special situations. I suggest better training. The Nature center is the best part of the park, definitely recommend the edible plant hike.

It gives me a headache everytime I need to make a reservation or even worse find my reservation. I hope they revamp it soon.

RV camped there for 4 days. A great place that well try in the late fall or winter time. Only quirk was the 30-Amp gave us issues, two times at night. Though it ran 6 hours before any issues popped up. Switched to 50-Amp and no issues. Fishing is possible at the pond by the campsites. Caught 2 baby catfish, lots of growing sunfish under the pier. I like there were plenty of trashcans around to put my dog waste into while walking the dogs. Too bad other people arent as good with their trash.

We tried to stop by there and take a look around to see if we would like to camp the in tbd future. In order to just drive through and come right back out we were going to have to pay $6. Ridiculous... we have a self contained tear drop so we dont need electricity or water but we were told we would have to take a rv spot and pay $27 a night. What a joke!

Had an awesome time with my family here for Father s Day. We rented an A screened shelter and it was perfect for what we needed. We spent most of the time in the lake and playing near the sand with our little ones anyway, the shelter was mostly to have someplace to eat lunch before heading out. Definitely recommend this place for a quick get a way that s still close enough to many main freeways and toll roads. Clean water, showers & bathroom stalls. We will be returning soon. Playground is big and had many things for kids to do. It s close by the Nature Center. Picnic areas are all around, small grills also. Cabins look very nice and are right across from a catch and release lake.

This place is the best and I cant wait to go back. I took my family there to go camping twice. The first time I we stayed in an A Frame during a cold snap. We made it happen because I was prepared for cold weather camping. The second time we stayed in the rustic cabin. My family said they enjoyed the rustic cabin more but I personally liked the A frame. I prefer tent camping over all but I wanted my family to enjoy the experience since they were novices. I want them to try each type of shelter.

I love this park, so much to explore and see! We were welcomed by many mosquitoes, bees, and various flying insects. We saw a cardinal, crows, deer, and a Copperhead snake. The park will be much more enjoyable for me in November/December when its cooler weather. There are plenty of trails, restrooms, picnic tables, and playgrounds. The nature center is great, very educational, and rustic. Playground: We love the playgrounds, perfect for our son! Toilets: There are a lot of restrooms and showers which are great! Some of the restrooms you will share with wildlife (insects). Restrooms are also very clean. Dog-friendliness: Doggy water fountains and many trails. Picnic area: Tables are everywhere. Just check under them for black widows or venomous spiders.

This is a very nice park administered by the City of Houston Parks Dept. and Montgomery County. The park is about 5000 acres and has 26 miles of hiking trails. You can tent camp or camp in an RV, not a lot of RV spots so book early but they do have full hookups which is nice. We were in #2 on the Red Oak loop which encircles Lake Dabney, a small man made lake. Each campsite has a fire ring and a picnic table. The staff we interacted with were really nice. There is a $3 daily admission fee but only for people 13-64, so kids and seniors can enter at no charge. Our RV site was $32 which was fair since it had full hookups as mentioned. There were nice restrooms nearby, albeit they were not heated so a bit cold on a frosty morning, there are also private shower rooms which we did not use.

Our pre-Thanksgiving family excursion to Lake Houston Wilderness Park was an absolute delight from start to finish. Nestled amidst breathtaking natural beauty, this park offered an exceptional range of amenities that catered to every aspect of our day. Upon arrival, we were pleasantly surprised by the immaculate condition of the park. The well-maintained trails and pristine surroundings set the stage for an enjoyable day of camping, hiking, and family bonding. We opted to stay in one of the cabins, and it easily accommodated our sizable group of approximately 50 individuals. The comfort and convenience of the cabin added to the overall experience, providing a cozy retreat at days end. The parks amenities were thoughtfully designed, ensuring a family-friendly atmosphere. The playground area was a hit with the kids, offering a safe and enjoyable space for them to play and have fun. The restroom facilities were clean and well-appointed, a crucial aspect for a day spent outdoors. One highlight was the parks dog-friendly policy. With designated areas for our furry companions to roam and explore, it truly felt like a complete family outing. Our four-legged friends thoroughly enjoyed the open spaces, adding to the overall joy of the day. The strategically placed picnic areas were an ideal spot to relax and enjoy meals together. What made it even better were the well-positioned BBQ pits. Cooking amidst such beautiful scenery added an extra layer of enjoyment to our day, and the setup of these pits made the experience hassle-free. In summary, Lake Houston Wilderness Park exceeded our expectations in every aspect. Its well-maintained trails, family-friendly amenities, dog-friendly spaces, and strategically placed picnic and BBQ areas made it an ideal destination for a pre-Thanksgiving family day. We highly recommend this park to anyone seeking a well-equipped and scenic outdoor retreat for family gatherings or nature enthusiasts looking to immerse themselves in natures splendor.

What a cool wilderness park! There is a fun educational live animal building where you can learn about the ecosystem of the area, see some snakes, spiders, rabbits, creepy crocodile babies (yikes!) and other small critters. The park itself is lovely. There are plenty of walking trails, a lake by the camping area. And speaking of the camping area, we plan to go back and rent one of the pyramid shaped cabins. They re a big triangle with screened in doors so you can see out and hear the night, and it also has electrical outlets. There s a fire pit for each cabin and a water connection outside. I didn t get to your the full park so read the website to see what else is offered but it s well worth the 45 min drive from Houston. We plan on going again. Our 3.5 year old loved it and we had to pry his little hands off anything he could hold on to in order to leave.

Camped this weekend. It was awesome! What a great hidden gem with so many amenities and trails that we plan on returning often. Great fellow campers...everyone was friendly and helpful to us as brand new campers. The park is super clean with the nicest and most well-attended restrooms and sites. Cannot say enough nice things about this park and its staff!

The A-frame cabins look great (we didnt stay in them). The showers and bathrooms were clean, the trails are good, and the parking options are good. The showers require a code to open the door which seemed odd. Lots and lots of ants so watch where you stand and where you pitch your tent. Overall good stay. The park hosted a Halloween event which was very nice. They did a great job!

We recently learned about this hidden gem and visited to scout out campsites for an upcoming trip. Overall, the area was well maintained and the facilities in the campground area were nice! The park staff at the front gate were also incredibly nice and welcoming. Im looking forward to camping here in a few weeks. There are limited photos online of the sites, so we took photos of unoccupied sites to help others plan their trip. Sites 1-8 are walk-in sites and are located a short distance from the parking, maybe 50 yards to the farthest site. Sites 9-16 appeared to be busy, so we did not go down that loop in order to be respectful of the individuals camping. It appeared that some of those sites had parking at the site. Finally, sites 17-23 appeared to also have parking near each site. There is a shared lot a short distance away. Starting at Site 20, which is probably the furthest from the restroom facility, it was a 3 to 4 minute walk down the gravel road to the restrooms. **UPDATE** After camping here recently, I wanted to provide a quick update. I was able to get photos of a few more sites and added those below. I love how many of the sites are tucked away. providing a little more privacy. The park staff are amazing. Every interaction we had was great. They drive through the sites regularly making sure things are good, picking up an errant trash, and are present without being intrusive. The bathrooms are very clean (based on the log sheet, they are cleaned 2 to 3 times a day!), the showers are private, clean, and most importantly, not full of bugs. There are three separate sections in the tent camping area. Each section has a covered pavilion with electricity and a covered sink area with multiple faucets for washing dishes and refilling water. The trails are excellent. VERY well maintained, but still providing a natural experience. We hiked the trails around the campsites as well as part of the Ameritrail that leads to the primitive sites. The primitive sites were also very nice and I plan on staying in one soon. Primitive Site 4, the farthest from the trailhead, is about 1.5 miles from the Canoe Launch Road parking area. Sites 1 and 2 are roughly .5 mile from that parking area. Im still amazed that this park is so close and we had no idea it existed until recently. It is definitely worth a day trip to get the kids out and moving and a wonderful campground if youre looking for somewhere close to home with plenty of room to explore.

It is a great park with all the word. Pleasant to spend with family or friends, walks or bicycles extend along beautiful paths... it also has camping areas. There is some trash and glass on the river bank, my husband and I picked up some and disposed of them. If you see it when you come, pick them up and throw them away, lets make a change... I recommend you visit it, you wont regret it
