Be aware when you visit this restaurant, their Servers are making $2.13 an hour. You are paying for the food and their wages. If you or the server make a mistake with the order it is taken out of their pay, and if something gets dropped they pay for that also. During the day they are servers, bartender, and bus person all for the $2.13 an hour. In addition if you pay with a credit card they are charged the fee for using a credit card. It is my understanding that proprietors get a write off fees for that the end of the year. I for one am not okay with supporting a restaurant that would treat their employees so poorly.

We had a great experience at The Gruene Door. The server was attentive and the food was great. The crab cakes were average but the rack of lamb was spot on as well as the chimichurrie steak. Perhaps the best part was the Belgium waffle bread pudding.

The best thing about The Gruene Door is the staff! Initially, youll come for the food, but the staff will keep you coming back time after time. Christines smiling face at the door welcomes you in. Her professional approach ensures your entire visit will be perfect. Jack always makes the most excellent drinks at the bar and has the best conversation. Lauren and Maddie are wonderful servers who will make your dinner an experience to remember. The food is always consistent. If youre looking for a restaurant with good food and great drinks that is quiet enough for dinner conversation, try Gruene Door. Go for the food, return for the staff, because theyre just that good!

We met some friends for lunch here. Arrived a few minutes early and looked at the menu outside and chose what I wanted to eat before entering while we waited for our friends. Once seated the server let us know the only thing they did not have that day was the one thing I had decided I wanted, braised short ribs. That was disappointing. I ordered the seared ahi tuna salad instead which was fresh and cooked very well. My girlfriend, who is vegetarian, asked about options and the pasta dish they said they could make for her was not quite what she was expecting. They have a good wine and drink selection, but limited on beers, and mostly light. It said to ask serve about seasonal rotation so I did and was told they didnt have any. We would go back. Food and service were good with a nice atmosphere. Would like to try this place for dinner.

We went here for my buddies birthday (he said he was 37 I said just say you re 40 already and get it over with). Anyways the food was the best! My wife has celiac and they were incredibly accommodating for allergies. No issues. They cooked my steak to perfection. Really an incredible spot to share with a loved one on a night out!

Had lunch there with a friend today. The atmosphere is very nice and cozy. The service was great and professional. The food was excellent; I had a cup of pumpkin soup, we shared a spinach and artichoke dip, and a petite Grilled Salmon with polenta cake and flash- fried spinach. Everything was delicious! My fiance and I had dinner here last night. The staff were very friendly. I ordered the 14 oz center cut fillet.. I do feel for that price they were a little stingy on the sides, I barely got any of the mashed potatoes and green beans (and they were some of the best i ve ever had! flavor was amazing) My fiance had the breaded pork tenderloin, that was delicious as well, but same thing with the sides.

We are relocating to New Braunfels and had been looking at houses all afternoon when we discovered this place while drinking wine at a wine bar across the street. I Googled The Gruene Door and found myself enticed by the menu. We enjoyed several appetizers and a bottle of wine at a comfortable and charming patio table. Perfection. We will be back and I highly recommend this wonderful restaurant!

10s across the board for this place! Great , strong cocktails. We had the old fashioned. Appetizers were phenomenal; brushetta and the risotto of the day. My boyfriend got the steak and I had the tuna(raw with mashed potatoes and grilled asparagus). For dessert we had the creme brulee which he loved, I didnt even get a bite! And I ordered the ice cream with Belgian waffle and oh my god Im still thinking about it.

Horrible experience. We put our name down on the waitlist and drove 45 minutes only for them to tell us our table was outside and there was nothing they could do in 100 degree weather with a baby. We observed many open tables as well. They were unsympathetic and unapologetic even with zero verbiage on the waitlist that outside was our only option. The older woman with glasses who was the hostess was horribly rude and zero help. Would not recommend going whatsoever.

Excellent dining. The chef is incredible. I had a Ribeye, and it was cooked to perfect. Excellent seasoning. The restaurant is a little dark, and as you walk in, it has a feel of mid 1900s. There is a little jazzy music in the background, but you can still talk comfortably with your guests. The service was okay. Our server was nice, but I wish she would have been a little more attentive.

It was my first experience eating at this restaurant. We were disappointed. The waiter seemed to have his mind on other things and had to come back several times to check that we didn t order an appetizer or what type of dressing we had asked for our salad already. I had asked twice what the specialty risotto was for the day. We had to request where our salad was prior to the meal. Just not very good service. We did see him several times talking with the hostess and other workers. The food took quite a while to prepare. I ordered the chimichurri steak. I asked for the steak to be prepared medium, and it came out rare. Chimichurri sauce was very unbalanced and was overwhelmingly spicy from the red pepper, which was all I could taste. My husband ordered the short ribs. The ribs were dry, regardless of the wine sauce and didn t have any depth of flavor. The waiter did apologize and offered to Make another one, but we were already there for quite a while and didn t want to wait to eat. We were also offered a complimentary dessert, but we declined. The waiter came back, didn t offer for us to speak with the manager, just dropped off the check in full price, which was very expensive in my opinion for the food that was sent out, and collected the check. We were quite disappointed, unfortunately. It seemed there was no management present.

Our first time here and we were blown away! The food was top notch. We ordered the chicken piccata and the pork tenderloin with a peach jalapeno chutney and we ate every single bite. Definitely recommend those entrees along with the nutty old fashion. Our server, Hazey, was so sweet and sooo quick. We sat and immediately was served with our drinks and food quickly to follow. Went to pick up food on Friday April 19 about noon. Parking lot appeared full but restaurant was not busy. Maybe 1/4 full, to be generous. I ordered off the lunch menu for takeout. Waitress was available but perfunctory. Just the basic. Fawning over what appeared to be regulars getting lit at the bar around noon. Don t you dare come back unless I m here. Here s my next shift . Patrons Stumbled off. Food was average. Nothing extra, no particular care in presentation or customer service. No bread. No silverware. Just slopped in the styrofoam package and plastic bag for me to discover later. Just bare bones basics. It appears you are used to just dealing with the tourist trade. If that keeps the lights on, well, that s your choice. Locals will go elsewhere. We were there when you first opened. Many years ago. I have a photo of my now 90 plus year old parents in front of your door. It was a big night to go to your establishment then. What happened?? In my opinion, your waitstaff should be more attentive and add extra value. Appear, if not actually interested, in our business. Don t make me wait for a glass of water, while you open wine for another table. It did not appear that busy or that short staffed. Or, it this another just drunk tourists establishment? what a low bar for our town. I thought better of you. You can prove me wrong.

Food was delicious and waitress was on point. Only down side, we were placed in a back room that didnt have the same ambiance as the rest of the restaurant. Lighting plays a BIG roll in the mood and tone of a place. It felt like we were in an add on that wasnt quite finished. Very blank, empty room. Limited decor and VERY bright. This increased the volume of the room. It ended up being very loud. Other than that. Top notch. Definitely recommend.

Went here for an early valentines dinner. Food was amazing but the service was even better. My partner and I aren t people who like to spend 3 hours at a table. The service was so fast, but yet didn t feel rushed at all. We were able to get two drinks, an app, mains, and a dessert within a hour. Very attentive server who was friendly and still warm. Amazing food, horrible service!!! We made a reservation for six people and the restaurant did not made us feel welcomed. We were accommodated in the patio area. It was a rainy night and the umbrella in our table was not working properly. They have 8 tables outside but only one umbrella as per staff . We decided to stay even with the inconvenience of the rain and the umbrella. There were two heaters near us and we asked if they could be turned on, to which the answer was we re not turning them on tonight . After a while, we asked if we could move inside, to which we were told no. Eventually it started pouring and we had to take shelter inside. We then found out that there was plenty of space to accommodate us. Horrible service. Compliments to the chef though.

We have ate here many times before and normally would leave them a 5 star review. There food is excellent. However this time we tried to come here with 2-4 top reservations. 1 for the kids and 1 for the adults. they refused to put the tables in the same room even though there appeared to be plenty of 4 top tables available. We even offered to wait a hr. The host was extremely rude and refused to accommodate us on any way. Guess there making so much money they dont need our business anymore. Wedding anniversary dinner with my beautiful wife, wanted to go to a place that served lamb chops. Was pleasantly rewarded with a beautiful restaurant, when you first walk up you are greeted by outside dining with a wood-burning fireplace and outdoor heaters creating a wonderful wood smoke smell in the air. Upon walking in we were greeted by an amazing ambience. Taken to our table you taking the beautiful look of the restaurant. Our waiter was polite knowledgeable and friendly. Made a few suggestions that we liked and put magnificent drinks in front of us from a truly talented mixologist. The Gruene Door was the perfect birthday dinner for my wife! The ambience is very cozy and intimate. The bruschetta is immaculate! I haven t eaten here in like ten years. We saw the ratings were good and brought our friends who were visiting from Austin. We picked the Gruene Door over several other restaurants they wanted to try. They listened to me because I ve lived in the area over 25 years. We were the first table seated on a Saturday at 4 PM, the day before Father s Day. Our waitress was friendly and fantastic and super helpful. She genuinely gave us great service. They put us at a table next to POS terminal, for printing receipts etc. This table had its own carpet. My one year old and our friends 8 year old never once stepped foot off our carpet. After we paid, they were rudely scolded by some waitress for no reason. The kids were not misbehaving and they were literally touching my legs. Almost underneath the table. So I was shocked when my wife and her friend said something about this. These children weren t in anybody s way but this waitress told the 8 year old, twice, to stay out of her way? We reminded the Gruene Door staff that they had seated us here and we didn t like the table to begin with. It was shocking because we had already paid and had a wonderful meal and we were getting ready to leave. The waitress complaining obviously wasn t there at 4 PM when they seated us. It was very bizarre that she spoke to our children and not us directly about her problems or issues. Who talks to an 8 year old like that? Our friends were shocked and disappointed by this staff member. It kind of made the meal disappointing even though our food was all excellent. I don t think we will be back because I don t think my one year old daughter deserved to be yelled at by this waitress. Also, my chicken piccata was also very small. Like appetizer size small. I can t say it was the best for $26. I subbed shrimp and paid more for it. It was like four bites of pasta and 6 little shrimp. I think that was the weakest dish we ordered. The filet special with Oscar crawfish was incredible. The duck was incredible. Tuna, incredible. But unfortunately our friends did not like the service we received after they paid. Yes, they paid for dinner, and complained about the waitress here. I felt terrible. I hope they can fix this problem. I am not sure we would return or recommend to our other friends or family. My family used to come here often for brunch, for years and years. We left quickly after this random waitress was rude to our kids. Not cool Gruene Door. Not cool.

Consistently one of my favorite places. The special risotto of the day is a must for us. It is always yummy! The meatloaf is one of the best, if not the best, weve ever had, and all our guests would agree too! The service is great. We always bring our twin babies, currently 14 months old, and the staff is very accommodating. Its nice to be able to make reservations online too. I highly recommend!! The Gruene Door is absolutely fabulous. My wife and I enjoy experiencing different restaurants. We had a late lunch but went all out. The lemonade-delicious not overly sweet Crab cakes with flash fried spinach is unquestionably unique and delicious The house salad with homemade ranch dressing, dressing and croutons were stunningly good Both Grilled chicken sandwich with mushrooms and turkey bacon along with the parmesan encrusted french fries are so good it s hard to describe Finally because the food was so wonderful we had to get dessert to go, blueberry bread pudding and crème brûlée were absolutely mouthwatering The wait staff were all excellent We will be going back for dinner as soon as possible

Absolutely amazing dinner. Walked in on a busy Saturday night without reservations and were lucky enough to get seated at the bar. Jack was running the bar and was great, recommended some different drinks and really took care of us. The Tuna, the Shrimp Gratin and Bruchetta were wonderful. Went for the first time last night and it was delicious - will definitely be back! Giving 4 stars because we had no clue we were going to be charged $6 per side salad. Our server told us it came with our entrees so it was safe to say we were surprised when we had a $12 charge for 2 side salads which IMO is a bit pricy for what you get.

The store was cute but our initial server was very rude, short with us, and literally had her arms crossed while attending us. We didnt feel welcomed by her at all. Later a longer haired gentleman helped us and was very down to earth and friendly. We bought two bottles of wine and felt ripped off after we recognized the bottle from heb where we couldve saved so much money has we purchased there.

I had heard this one was one of the best restaurants in the New Braunfels area - and it was! Had the 8 oz beef tenderloin, asparagus & potatoes. Tenderloin was a perfect medium-perfectly seasoned & cooked. I dont usually finish asparagus - but I finished these. My wife had the Caprese salad & crab cakes w/flash fried spinach from the small plate menu. Perfectly prepared, seasoned & plated. Crab cakes were Baltimore style and rivaled them. The wine selection is great, good variety & price selection. The kitchen & chef are putting out great food! This place is a find. Well be back.

This restaurant, as a local, is always at TOP of our list! It checks everything off! Service is always phenomenal as soon as we walk in the door. We are always greeted with a smile. Every waiter or waitress we ve ever had is so attentive and friendly, but BEST OF ALL the FOOD IS SO GOOD! Always fresh, flavorful, and delicious!! Ive been to The Gruene Door many times. The last 2x Ive had the pleasure of having Lauren as my server. Her attention to detail is amazing! We started with the Bruschetta, which will blow you away because they add goat cheese to it! I have always gotten the salmon with polenta and flash fried spinach. Theres just something so unique about it! We finished with the brownie topped with ice cream, and I was done. The portions are huge. None of us could finish our food. The atmosphere is always very nice and respectable. Ask for Lauren when you go or make a reservation. You will not be disappointed!

I have NO complaints about the food (it was exceptional) however the overall experience was NOT equivalent which is why I m giving 2 stars. My partner and I were there celebrating a special occasion and booked in advance for a reservation. Our server was not timely in greeting us. He rushed us in ordering our drink/appetizer which was upsetting as we were there to take our time. We ended up placing our order and once the food came out, he never came back. I sat with an empty cup for at least 15 minutes before I could track him down. After that, we never saw him at our table again. We did see him in and out of the kitchen and he appeared to be playing/hanging out rather than checking back in after the food was dropped. We waited 20 minutes for boxes and the check and my partner had to trace down a host at that point. The check was dropped in the rudest way possible and we could feel the attitude from the server as he seemed to be upset. I am extremely disappointed in the experience. My partner is an Executive Chef/Manager at a top spot in New Braunfels so to go to another spot and have a horrible experience with the server was nothing less than frustrating. Our server was extremely lazy and I wish we would ve had the other gentleman serving as he seemed to be extremely tentative to his tables. Again, food was great I only wish I could say the same about the experience.

Great experience on wedding anniversary. Every part of the service and meal were exemplary. Professional, kind, attentive staff. Each part of the meal was outstanding, not just one part. Got off to a bad start from walking in and meeting the rudeist Hostess I have ever exeperienced. For the food, I wouldnt order seafood again. I had the small plate trio which was fishy. I cant rememember having fishy tasting shrimp, but tonight changed evrything. The ambiance was nice and the service was fine and maybe other than seafood the food may be palable but stay away from the seafood. As for the Hostess, she would be fired for addressing any guest in that tone.

We are from Dallas and currently live in Houston but this is still one of the best restaurants we have ever been to. Awesome serivce from Collin (Thank you sir!). I dont normally like bruahetta and this was delicious. I had the salmon and the family had the and a combo of lamb and pork chops, al with ceaser salad. Everyone raved about their meal. We then ended with desert (which we never do!K where we come away recommending a creme brulee per two people plus a cheese cake for the table. We arent desert people and this was amazing. Added bonus that we had their coffee after as well. It was from Kora Kora and scrumptious. Thank you Gruene Door. Awesomeness!!!

The food was terrific but we wont be back. Why? The noise! We had reservations for 6:00 on Thursday. The restaurant was virtually full. The noise was terrible. We were shouting at each other to be heard. I have been in many loud restaurants, but this was actually a little painful. Please Gruene Door, get some drapes, rugs, sound absorbers, anything! Such good food -- it is too bad it was such an unpleasant experience.

Upon the recommendation of family members my wife and I went to this restaurant on our 42nd wedding anniversary. The food was wonderful - especially the pecan-encrusted rack of lamb. We had a wonderful dinner with great service. Think of it as a quiet casual boutique restaurant with a white tablecloth atmosphere.
