It is difficult to describe in words how wonderful it feels to stand under this majestic tree. He seems to receive you with kindness and joy, while gently swaying his branches to the rhythm of the wind. I enjoyed walking around him and stopping in his shadow. It impresses me to think how he has been stationed there all these years, what things he has witnessed, all the inclement weather and storms he has faced. He feels calm and transmits peace. When you visit him, do so with due respect and take a moment of silence that allows you to enjoy his pleasant song.

Anything 900 years old is Very cool. And if you want to he cool bring 2 gallons of water each (unless its rainy or has rained recentlyof course). It is customary for locals or visitors in general to pay homage to the old one with the gift of water. Reason? For many years now the course of the Rio Grande has deviated and at some point nany years ago the River lost interest and abandoned the old one. It is now all alone with no water lest it rains.. It is so dry it cannot even shed a tear.

You have to drive through the border wall. No one will disturb you or question you, so dont be afraid coz it might seems too quiet. Nature wonders!

Amazing spot. Montezuma Bald Cypress. Said to be 900 yr old. Like nothing else in the RGV that I have seen. Not big like a red wood. But BIG around. And, you are south of the WALL, which gives it bonus points. (only by 100 yards or so) Be sure to have your ID with you. This is private property. Be respectful. Pick up any trash.

Beautiful tree. Not far from main road, but you have to get off and take a minute on dirt road. If you, please respect the place, since its seems to be private property.

This place is magical. Sitting on the other side of the border wall on a section with access is a Treasure for the Rio Grande Valley. Monty the Montezuma Bald Cypress is beautiful. Go over and hug this tree. Admire the wildlife around you.

Interesting specimen of local Flora. This Montezuma Cypress is presumably 900 years old. It looks to have had the worst end of several years of drought. No new growth seen on the tree but still proved to be a popular tourist attraction with many out-of-state vehicles at the location. It is just passed the Border fence Crossing on private property. Adjacent to a field that is used for agriculture. Dont Meander on the back roads, they are all private property and you will be stopped and detained by border patrol
