Bought bone broth from a vendor here last weekend. Unfortunately I threw away the packaging, or else I would have posted it. It was supposed to be ginger turmeric chicken bone broth . It tasted like poorly seasoned water. Got home and compared it to my REAL homemade bone broth that was simmered for over 24 hours. Not even close. Such a disappointment. People, do your research and ask questions. Just because they re at a farmers market doesn t mean they use good practices. I have a friend who caught a vendor buying Walmart pickles to resell as homemade (different farmers market). Ask for ingredients. Ask about their farming practices. Ask questions, get to know them. Ask to go see their production site. If they don t like your questions or won t let you see their farm/production, don t buy from them! Be safe out there friends.

Wacos weekly farmers market continues to disappoint. Farmers are represented but they are in the minority. Find it hard to believe that with all this farmland surrounding Waco, that they have such a meager farmers market. $5 for a cantaloupe is highway robbery and it was a very small cantaloupe. Prices for the most part are out of line with your local supermarket, so shopping on Saturday will not save you any $. Was hoping for a better outcome this time but alas it was not to be.

This was a surprisingly popular market with a couple dozen tents of various local food and goods creators. Especially popular were the coffee and fresh food makers. The parking lot location can be overly warm in summer but does look across at the majestic courthouse. On my visit I bought some zucchini bread, and I would definitely go again. In good weather its within a few blocks of both the river and most of Wacos major downtown restaurants & attractions. I recommend Fabled bookstore and Dichotomy coffee.

Im probably going to get a bit of backlash for writing this review. My goal in sharing my thoughts is not to tear down the local farmers market, but more to offer observations to making it more appealing to locals. So, here goes. This farmers market (*in July) is limited to mostly meats, honeys and some ready to serve food and beverages. What did we expect? Far more locally grown produce. Perhaps it was the wrong season? It simply seemed that the freshly grown vegetables were only there in very limited amounts. There was a purveyor of cheeses from a local cheese producer, yet, he sold us cheese that was not local at all. It was from Deary, Idaho and a creamery that we ACTUALLY (coincidentally) had visited years before. I thought I recognized the label, and indeed, looking more closely at it when we got home, I realized it was from Bush Creek Creamery. So, its okay to have NON local stuff at a Farmers market, yet, doesnt that defeat the purpose of the market itself? Why not just go to H.E.B.? Do we need coffee from Ecuador or Ethiopia? Well, perhaps if the beans are roasted locally. Otherwise, we can hop on the internet and have those products drop shipped fresher directly to us. Mainly, lets get more cruciferous vegetables like Kale and Bok Choy. More staples like purple carrot and just simply vegetable varietals that can be grown by locals in smaller quantities, rather that all of the products we can get at H.E.B. As Texans ,we expected poultry, pork and beef to be there, however, wed like to know for certain the meat is organically raised, pasture raised, and grown without antibiotics or processed feed. This does make the cost of the meats a great deal higher, yet perhaps seeing the price of what it costs to produce meats can make us all consider that we should reduce our meat intake a bit and focus on higher quality. Good for our health and good for the world. As far as the purveyors, everyone was quite friendly and engaging, which is part of the charm of any farmers market, and one of the reasons we enjoy going to them. We hope to see this market grow (no pun intended) further into something larger that might include locally made confectionaries or baked goods as well as more local arts and crafts. We look forward to its evolution.

This market, believe it or not, was smaller than the one we have in Lawton. There were not as many home-grown fruits and veggies as I had expected. Although Waco is more of a metropolis than Lawton. They are located downtown near other shopping areas, which is really convenient. My wife found a store she adored called Pretty in Pink. It was less than a block from the market. There are a lot of other things to see and do within walking distance of the market. You will enjoy yourself if the market isnt your only goal. I gave the market 3 stars, but the area, experience, and time spent with my wife and daughter were definitely 5 stars.

If you are expecting a farmers market youll be disappointed. I only saw a few stalls with actual produce and the prices were outrageously high. The purpose of a farmers market is to cut out the middle man so the prices are lower yet the farmers make more money. This is more like a outdoor boutique where people can walk around with their pets and brag about how the prefer organic items.

The fact that we spent almost 2 hours in a market the size of a small parking lot is a testament to the quality of goods and services provided here. There are so many vendors with so many different locally produced products. Notable booths: The cheese booth has some incredible cheeses. Pricey, but so, so worth every penny. The booth selling pet treats. Theyre all natural, and if our doggo is the judge, theyre delicious. The gentleman selling jerky and honey...everything we bought from him is top notch. Muchos Tacos. To find tacos of this quality in Waco was unexpected. These folks know what theyre doing. Theyre constantly asking for feedback and criticism, meaning they care immensely about their food. The Farmers Market is also a great place to take your doggo. Our boy had a great morning meeting new people and new dogs.
