Overall decent food. Ordered the family meal at it came with brisket, turkey, pickles and onions, cornbread, and a side of corn and beans. It wasn t the highest quality food but that s probably to be expected from a grocery store restaurant. The cornbread was burnt but still edible. The turkey and the brisket were both very tender.

My husband and I ordered two meat plate each. Was out of sliced brisket so ordered chopped, double order. My husband got ribs. He said ribs were pretty good. But worst brisket. It looked and tasted like it came out of one those red containers you can buy at the store. It looked shredded instead of chopped and already soaked in sauce. It was packed down into the cup. It looked like mush. Wont be back.

Love BBQ and heard about this place. I honestly feel it was overhyped. The brisket was bland; very tasteless as it didnt have a drop of smoky flavor. The sausage was also flavorless and chewy. The fries (sliders) and the mac and cheese were good though; even though the fries were unseasoned and a little bland, they were served hot. The people were very friendly though and thats mainly the reason for the 3 stars. I really had high hopes for this place, yet sadly left very disappointed. Id recommend visiting here because of the nice people who work there, but definitely not for the food. I personally, will not eat here again.

The food was good but after waiting over 25 minutes to get one sausage and a quarter pound of brisket it was a bit annoying. They weren t even busy. As I was leaving with groceries I thought I d just run in quick and get a little meat to have with dinner. There was nothing quick about it. And on top of it all we ask for pickles and onions and got none! Not likely to be back anytime soon.

TL;DR? = Get the chicken tenders!!! Warning: they no longer provide sauce for the tenders. Still, worth it. My hubs & I both loved them and weve rarely felt that way. Drive thru: 7:45pm on a Tuesday, 3/26/24 Person taking the order couldnt hear me because the music inside (trivia night as per them) was too loud. I had to repeat my order at least 10 times & by the end I felt like I was screaming it so that she could hear me. That was very frustrating and embarrassing. If there had been cars behind or people around me, I would ve just left instead of experiencing that. After ordering (in the uncomfortably dark almost alley beside the HEB, accessible only from the curbside pickup/back side of the McKinney HEB) the wait was minimal; less than five minutes after paying. The ribs are alright; good not great. The pulled pork is ok. The sausage links are a little less than ok. The chicken tenders are great! Sides: The cornbread is dry but still oddly tasty. Just needs ~4x the anount of butter than what they put on top to get an enthusiastic thumbs up. Collard greens were good. Cole slaw was really good. Mac & cheese was good but it is bland. Idk if they offer salt & pepper packets but Id ask for them if we were to order this item again. Brisket beans were good. This and the cole slaw were my 2 favorite sides. The bread that comes with non sandwich meals is sliced white sandwich bread, in case youre wondering. The pickles and onions arent special either. >> These 3 items came free with our meals. Theyre not worth paying for if they hadnt. Parking: Restaurant is inside HEB and to the far left (if facing front of store) so park in the grocery store lot.

I cant believe HEB, a Texas store chain, would call this BBQ or allow it in their stores. Ive had BBQ in all corners of the country and this by far is the worst Ive ever had. I ordered a sliced brisket sandwich and ended up with fat on a bun sandwich. The sausage you get on the shelf is superior to their garbage sausage. I should have grabbed a bottle of Franklins BBQ sauce off the shelf before going in to avoid their slop in a cup they call sauce. If you are considering True Texas BBQ at HEB for the first time and reading this, please save your money and go to Dickies. At least you know youre getting garbage there.

My meal was a little over 7 dollars. That included a bottled 1.00 drink and a sliced turkey sandwich with BBQ sauce. I dined in. It may have been because I was fairly hungry getting here, but the food was pretty stinking good. Definitely better than Dickeys. The meat was tender and fell apart in my mouth. It wasnt that juicy but what made up for it was the thickness and flavor. There was a peppery taste to the BBQ sauce which went very well with the smoked meat. The size was good, or fair for the price. I did want pulled beef but the price was over 9 after tax for that. A little more steep than turkey. The bun was crisp on top and soft to bite into. The meat was warm but not hot. The BBQ sauce was cold. But again, I was too hungry to care. There wasnt a line today (Wednesday afternoon) and I was able to order immediately upon entering. Tables were clean, atmosphere was nice. Theres a large selection of sweet teas I wish Id tried. Ill definitely be back for that though. A regular drink was 2.25. my drink was a lime mineral water. Im used to sparkling water so it was really delicious. Nice lime flavor true to what it was. Very bubbly. They did have a flavor on the prompter I couldnt order that was discontinued. The mango mineral water. Wish I couldve tried it. Overall Ill be back to try more later. Bring 15 or so dollars to eat a decent meal.

It s convenient and service has been pretty good. Their fatty brisket is the highlight. During this visit they had the brisket Bahn Mi, which was very good. The fresh jalapeños, cabbage vinaigrette salad paired very well with the fatty brisket. If they had used Vietnamese or a version of their bakery s pan Frances it would ve a solid sandwich.

Love the BBQ and the service. We love the casual ambiance and family-friendly staff. My hubby and I have dined in once and ordered takeout, as well as driven through several times now since they opened. It had become one of our favorite BBQ places near us, 5 minutes door to door! The moist brisket and ribs are our favorite, as well as the El Heffe and El Jeffa sandwiches. But our new favorite is the amazing new Banh-Mi Brisket sandwich! Delicious, juicy & spicy, just like we like our food. Our favorite BBQ in town is Hutchins BBQ on east side downtown McKinney, but their prices have risen so much, we can only afford to go once a year as a family, and maybe another time just the two of us. True Texas BBQ is our very close 2nd favorite here, not even kidding. We appreciate the reasonable prices, but especially the delicious food that fills us up and keeps us coming back. So happy to have H-E-B and True Texas BBQ super close to us finally. We didnt know what all the fuss was about because so many people around us were talking up how amazing they are, but now that theyre here, and weve been there and tried it for ourselves, we believe them.

Too expensive for what you get. I had the 2 meat plate with ribs (3) and burnt ends (~6 pieces) with 2 sides (mac & cheese and corn bread) and a large drink for over $20. The ribs were very good, nice tasting spicy rub and good size without being fatty. Burnt ends were tender and good, nothing special but good. Mac & cheese was very bland, Kraft mac & cheese would have been better and the corn bread was very dry and the small dollop of butter on top could not save it. There were 2 BBQ sauces available, sweet and Texas BBQ, both very bland and nothing better than off the shelf bottled sauces (and worse than Sweet Baby Rays sauces.) Wide variety of drinks with free refills, sweet tea was good. Staff was friendly and service was very quick. 3.5/5 Stars - Decent BBQ but overpriced for the quality/portions.

I waffled quite a bit on checking this place out. Heard good things, love BBQ, but being as this location is in McKinney (aka Hutchins backyard), wasnt sure the point. Ultimately it exceeded expectations. The brisket mac & cheese was excellent. Very good brisket. Very creamy mac & cheese. Went great together. Probably the best brisket mac & cheese Ive had. The Texas Torpedo was also better than expected. Very good amount of spice. The sausage on the other hand... I cant figure out why this is on the menu. It was awful. Truly terrible. Also enjoyed the thick cut pickles and how its one of the few places Ive been where you can get Coke or Pepsi. Though at this point, Id be happy with either. If I go to one more restaurant pretending to be fancy by serving one of those terrible craft sodas that a) arent any healthier for you, and b) taste like trash, Im going to lose it. Now for the other side of the coin... this place is no Hutchins. As far as restaurants inside another store go, this is the best Ive been to. And yes its cheaper than Hutchins and you wont have to wait in line nearly as long, but... Hutchins is an institution for a reason. The brisket was the most comparable, but it certainly wasnt better than Hutchins. The Texas Torpedo exceeded expectations, but still was not nearly as good as a Texas Twinkie. And the aforementioned sausage... well obviously it doesnt hold a candle to the jalapeno cheddar sausage at Hutchins. All that to say, I will certainly eat here again and am looking forward to it. Just dont expect it to best Hutchins, which for my money, is the best BBQ Ive had in the metroplex.

Even the sides were terrible - got the Mac and Corn bread today, the corn bread is like it was set at 300 and forgotten about for hours. Crumbly and dry. The mac I think is better coming out of a box. Please just revamp all recipes. This is NOT what Texas BBQ is.

You get one strip of brisket per meat, the sides are just either to salty and to vinegar like. You might as well go to tenders bbq with bigger portions and tastier sides.

Place was very clean when we went. Menu is not intuitive at all. If those who dont know what menu items are, or whats on them, it doesnt elaborate. Dirty fries are not explained, nor is the tornado thing. The cashier was nice and attentive. Answered all of our questions. There was three of us and we each ordered 3 2meat plates. The meat was good, but portions were very small. For our sides, we got beans, Mac and cheese, and each of us got fries. They combined the fries into one tray, which I didnt like. This made it difficult to ensure we got the correct amount for what we ordered. They use Kens steakhouse ranch, and I loved it. Ultimately we enjoyed the sides way more than the meat. One of my main complaints aside from the plate price not matching portion size, is when the ladies came out with our food said they would walk it to our table and on the way to the table one said this is heavy in a snotty tone. I could have taken the trays myself, but they offered. Overall if you eat here, dont get the meal plates. Get the sandwiches and be sure to ask what comes on them, and do try the sides. We especially loved the Mac and cheese and the sidewinder fries. Plus Kens steakhouse ranch is to die for.

I finally had the opportunity to try H-E-Bs barbecue place. After having to wait on a fairly long line with only one person taking orders and the self-service tablet not functioning, I got the chance to order with a very friendly, nice person. I ordered the two meat plate plate and substituted Texas tornado for one of the meats, at an extra cost. The cashier asked me if I wanted pickles, onions, and bread and I only accepted the pickles and onions. Check out the picture of the pickles and onions, later. The store uses plastic forks and spoons which is a big problem if you try to eat at Texas tornado. My suggestion is if you order one, bring your own metal fork and your own metal knife because the plastic ones break as the picture below will show you. The Texas tornado is very tough and not very tasty. Its obviously an attempt to copy a local Texas BBQ legend side, but doesnt come close. I also noticed that the tables were not cleaned after each customer. The restaurant was quite busy and it was odd to see HEB employees taking their lunch breaks at the restaurant but not eating the barbecue. In conclusion, glad I got to try it but not going back.
