Ive been wanting to try this place for so long because a few people had recommend it. Finally had the time to but sadly I think my expectations were too high. I used to live in San Antonio and I was obsessed with a restaurant called Shisha Cafe. Same style food. It was so so so good. But this place just wasnt as great of an experience. Thats my fault for thinking it would be as good. All in all.. the hummus was great. The fattoush salad didnt have a lemon flavor at all. And the amount of meat we got in the curry was embarrassingly small. Mostly potato. Only a little meat. And for $25 I expected a lot more. The garlic Naan was very good. Probably my favorite thing. The waitress was okay but we needed something and kept trying to wave her down but she was rolling silverware in the back and wouldnt look up at all to notice we needed help. That was a bit frustrating. We gave it a try but it just wasnt for us. Good luck

I used to frequent Ginger cafe years ago and had stopped coming for awhile and decided to try it again. I was dissapointed to find that the portions were smaller, the items were way more expensive, the food was very bland, and the waitstaff was rude when it came time for me to pay. I dont think I would come back.

Ive been a client here for 5 years where the service was perfect. But I dont know if the ownership changed or management is lacking entirely. However everything about this place was horrible now. I dont need to talk about maintenance since youll see what I mean when you get there. But the food was lackluster to say the least, absolutely bland and overcooked. Kitchen closed an hour before the actual restaurant was supposed to close to the public. So we were rushed by staff to hurry when we arrived at 7 pm. The pièce de résistance, was our waitress being rude to say if we were going to pay now and snatched the card from my relatives hand to hurry us out immediately after.

Been coming here for 3 years and the food and service has definitely taken a dump. The food used to be great with generous portions. The service WAS top notch. The portion sizes have been cut in half and the quality is not what it used to be. Im not sure if ownership or cooks changed, but either way it has made the restaurant terrible. Servers are not attentive and hangout in the kitchen on their phones. My wife and I will not be going back.

This was my first time eating here. The atmosphere was nice and so was the surrounding neighborhoods. I ordered the gyro sandwich which also came with a side Greek salad. The food was tasty and the server was good but I just dont know if it rose to the level of the price that I paid for it. The other thing that really bugged me was the cement floor. We got there right after they opened and it was apparent that somebody did mop the floor but it had a very greasy feel to it. Almost to the point that you didnt want to walk too fast in fear that you might slip and fall. Maybe the person that mopped the floors had too much soap in the water and it left a film. Maybe they should have mopped it one more time with nothing but straight hot water. I will come back and eat here again if Im in the area but I wouldnt drive clear across town.

I was hoping that the restaurant would get back to me when I contacted them regarding food poisoning right after eating their butter chicken, but they either dont check their email address listed on their website or they dont really care. Anyway, I am certain the food gave me food poisoning. I could barely drive home right afterwards. Looking at the bad reviews about this place was quite revealing in terms of the lack of cleanliness or hygiene in this place. All other reviews I read were spot on, small portions for the money, nothing special.

The environment was very damp, server were not knowledgable about their product and no smiling during the entire experience. The food was undercooked, very salty and over priced. The serving quantity was also smaller than a typical Texan restaurant. We returned the food twice and then finally gave up. They have lost one of their customers as we will not be returning or recommending.

Whats most impressive about this restaurant is its diversity of food offerings. My focus in coming here was the Mediterranean food. Part of my family is Greek. So I was curious to try the menu and it did not disappoint as far as Texas goes. Probably would rank it #2 as far as Mediterranean food goes again in Texas. The staff was great and attentive. Prices are fair and family friendly. I ate so much that I had to do the penguin waddle to my ride, it was good Best calamari Ive ever had, and the lobster bisque was excellent. Kid-friendliness: Great options for picky kids although I dont let mine be picky.

This was our first time here, we ordered the smaller appetizer, the mixed grilled kebabs and butter chicken. While there were kids food options, such as burgers, and pizza, my 6yo ate off my plate- the kebabs. This entire experience was delicious. The appetizer, which came with several options, such as hummus, baba ganoush ( apologies for spelling) and others, was flavorful and promptly served. Be advised, their menu offers hand cooked items, and time is of the essence when preparing delicious foods. The butter chicken was so amazing, very mildly spiced and so flavorful, add a side of naan. You won t be disappointed. The grilled kebabs were fork tender, well seasoned and perfect for myself and my kiddo to share. I highly recommend this restaurant for their food, as well as their service. Our server was kind and helpful, suggesting her favorites and what she recommended. All around 5

We ve lived in metro Detroit and eaten more Mediterranean food than I can recount (and I ve also eaten it in the Middle East quite a bit), and I can say the chicken kabobs here are REALLY good! We also enjoyed everything in the combo appetizer platter. The baba ganoush was fresh and light; the tabouli was really good (not too over-the-top), and the Indian dish I had was also good, but I d say stick to the Arabic/Mediterranean dishes - that s their specialty. Service was fantastic. The pita bread is ok. Next time, I m going to call ahead and see if they can make toum for me

The food was AWFUL. The meat was overcooked and didnt resemble Turkish cuisine at all. When we asked for garlic naan, we received a Mexican tortilla with garlic instead. It seems like the cooks are not familiar with the dishes they are trying to make, as they attempt to prepare various cuisines and its not turning out well. I told the waitress that I would not pay for this garlic tortilla , but she said she could not remove it. This place is a joke. And their rating is FAKE. PS. By the way, the Turkish coffee was good, and the waitress was polite.

Zero rating service.. Dont waste ur time with the below false rating. The waitress is very rude.. No culinary given to eat, when asked the waitress wiped the spoons with her hand and I asked her to get me a new one and she replied we usually dont give spoons with our culinary (WTH). After waiting forever we asked her to get the food faster since we were waiting for really long time and kids were hungry , she started getting rude saying unnecessary statement like I get paid only 2 $/hr and dont have to serve u guys ,, she kept standing der not letting us eat our food kept saying we have to be more patient ( like waiting for an appetizers like hummus for more than 30 min was not patience enough) in middle of us eating she asked us to leave..... To note we were eating with our 2yo and 8yo kid and 70 yo mom.. This was the most unkind person and worst ambience She didnt care for the kids or elder.. Worst worst worst service and restaurant.. We ve been going to Ginger Cafe for several years but our recent visit will be our last. My wife decided to try something she hadn t had before but it was terrible, she kindly told the waitress that it was not good and the waitress offered to get her something else. The second entree was taking a long time to come out then the waitress notified us that we will be charged for the first plate that was inedible in our opinion, she said it was not possible to void it. After a bit of a discussion my wife asked for a manager and we were told there were no managers, in the end after they called the owner the our order was corrected and we only paid for my entree and the $7 fee for opening the bottle of wine we brought. The hygiene of one of the employees was terrible, that could ve caused the food to taste bad. Maybe ownership has changed recently or something because we ve always had great experiences in the past. Sorry Ginger Cafe but you need to get back to your old ways

Edit #2: the food has changed since last time we came. The servings are much smaller, definitely not worth 20$, and has VERY little sauce on them. The naan was much smaller as well. The food was not spicy at all. After reading the review by an ex employee here a lot makes sense and we will not be returning. Disappointing when theres such a lack of Indian food here. Edit: After our second time here Ive gotta add that Luna is legitimately a reason for us to come back again. Their service is awesome and they are so friendly and sweet. Great food, surprisingly authentic and very flavorful. The servers were very friendly and attentive. We were however a bit surprised to find that the prices were completely different from the ones listed on their website and definitely more expensive. It was worth it but its more of a fancy stop than a regular one. I wish the hummus was slightly fresher/more flavorful. The naan was easily the best naan Ive had in a long time, amazingly fluffy and so well seasoned. Kid-friendliness: They had Styrofoam cups and offered one and they also offered us a kid size order of the adult entree our child requested.

I am writing this review because I recently resigned from Ginger Café after working there for nearly a month 1/8/24-2/3/24. The night I decided to leave, a confrontation occurred between a server manager and another server, resulting in a physical altercation in the kitchen(2/3/24). This incident was the final straw for me. Leading up to the night of my final straw, my experience at Ginger Café was quite an eye-opener at the lack of passion and integrity some have to be a restaurant owner and Ive had the pleasure of working under great and not so great owners in my past. However Noone has never NOT paid me, 3 days late before aswell as with hold my tips from me from my last shift(2/3/24), until now of course, so lets write about it. So I figure Ill give them a $57 review in regards to my $57 tips that was stolen by there Head Manager J*n. I should recieve around 30 points for this review alone. So Lets get into it. The cooks at Ginger Café lacked cleanliness, which was a constant concern for me. Working in an environment that showed zero regard for health regulations was unsettling. It was disheartening to witness such disregard for basic cleanliness standards. While on shift, I made concerted efforts to promote the use of gloves, proper hand hygiene, clean rags, clean surfaces, and preventing cross-contamination. However, the limitations of being just one person became evident. Its important to note that I was only employed at Ginger Café for almost a month, and I was initially hired as a server with considerable experience, which led to an immediate promotion to a server managerial position. At Ginger Café, there was a lack of adherence to FIFO (First In, First Out) regulations, and items were not labeled properly, further compounding food safety concerns. The absence of these basic protocols raised serious doubts about the establishments commitment to maintaining sanitary and safe food handling practices. If you ever wonder why the air conditioner at Ginger Café is set to 60 degrees during our winter, its due to the infestation of cockroaches. Theres a fear that if they turn the air conditioning off, the roaches will appear which they do. The storage room at Ginger Café, where supplies for customers and everyday used items are kept, is maintained in unimaginable conditions. For example, there was a week when the storage room floor was covered in sewage and feces water and you would think they would throw away everything contaminated but they did not, just put everything back in there and we worked through those conditions flooding the restaurant main dining room. Despite the conditions, I persevered and performed my duties to the best of my ability out of necessity for income knowing since shift 1, this would not be a long term place for me. That night when the head manager relieved me(night of the altercation). She assured me that she would contact me at the end of the shift. She did at 11:23pm to inform me about my cashout, which she had. How else would i know it was specifically $57? The receipt trail will prove that, clipped along with customer signed receipts from 2/3/24. However, since that night, she has not uttered a word to me nor made any attempt to return my messages. Despite me reaching out once or twice every day since then, I have received no response. And I wasnt relieved of my duties the night of the fight. Instead, I found myself completely overwhelmed and nearly hyperventilating due to the shock of what occurred 40 minutes previous. It all hit me at once, and I could no longer continue working on the floor without melting down. I resigned that following monday respectfully before my next shift. So, you decide if you want to take any of this information into consideration the next time you plan on eating at this restaurant.

Went today with friend. Ordered two bowls of lentil soup and salad Soup which tasted wonderful but bowls were less than half full. Salad had rotten lettuce in it. Female host never checked on us and all servers were in the back while we ate. Never offered more water despite our empty glasses. When I brought up the salad issue, the gal got a slim male server to come over. He wanted to know why we hadnt brought it up. No opportunity since we were not checked on. His comment was it was a good thing we didnt eat it very flipently. Poor service and quality of salad was horrible. Never offered to take it off our bill. We used to love going there but things have changed. Management needs to address. Dietary restrictions: No option for non dairy salad dressing.

This is the best Mediterranean food I ve ever had. The baba ganouj was creamy and delicious, it came with regular pita and fried pita chips which I loved. The gyro salad was amazing, gyro meat was cooked perfectly and not dry. The service was great, the staff are passionate about their food and Luna was the best server for recommendations! I will definitely be back, and you should definitely eat here!

We love the food but have noticed a recent decline in quality. The rice has changed and not for the better. I think it s now instant rice instead of regular rice? Also, the once amazing salad dressing for the Fatoosh salad is no longer being used. It had a wonderful, spicy and garlicky flavor but now is very bland. It could just be thousand island now?

The food was quite a letdown. We ordered a lentil soup and there were barely any lentils in it, which is quite surprising as lentils cost close to nothing. The disnes and utensils were barely rinsed as they had soap stains remaining on them. The hummus plate had very little hummus on it, and as stated before, hummus isnt that expensive, so not sure why the management is holding out for these. The pita breads were quite cold and the crunchy one was unpleasant to even bite into. The place is alright, but wouldnt recommend.

Portions have gotten smaller. Beef hummus was old and the meat was not fresh or hot. The lentil soup was very watered down. The salad had some rotten bits. Overall an extremely poor experience. One salad, hummus and two small bowls of lentil soup was $50. This place, sadly, was not as good as it once was and I left feeling bad about the choice.

I went there with my friends and there were roaches behind the booth crawling around. We saw it. We said okay thats fine. Its just a one off situation. We really like this place. Its probably just a fluke. So the next time I went. Service was fine. I got the braised lamb Greek salad. The next few hours of my life are spent vomiting and diarrhea on my toilet. I gave them two chances. Never again.

I ordered a bowl of lentil soup that came to be barely half way full. I asked her for more and her response was, Its a bowl. There was a roach just walking around the restaurant like he owned the place. The building itself needs a deep cleaning and some updating. We used to absolutely love it here. Not sure well be back.

I highly recommend Ginger Cafe, the food is a little on the expensive side due to economy, but the quality, quantity, and freshness of the food has not been effected at all. The food is the best I have tasted in this area. Staff is very nice and efficient. Highly recommend the lamb shank or lamb chops.

Ginger Cafe may be least known restraint on the South Side. Curb appeal is impossible as it it tucked between other businesses in a small strip mall. I had carryout which took 10 or so minutes to prepare. Gyros platter with no sides. The meat was too dry and clearly not fresh off the spigot. The pita was hard and cold. The atmosphere was pleasant yet a very small footprint. The wait staff were nice enough in the brief experience. Clearly the staff are as friendly as minimum wage would allow. Overall I will not return anytime soon.

They had my cell number and when asked he didn t have a reason why he didn t call me so I had to wait 20 minutes for a different meal while the rest of my food went Luke warm. They didn t offer any discount or anything either. I emailed them shortly after and they never responded.

We loved dining here. The staff was really nice and the food was amazing - not a cuisine I was expecting to be done well in a city like Corpus Christi which is overflowing with seafood and grills. The kitchen is able to make vegetarian and vegan modifications as much as possible. Dont let the mixed cuisine scare you, their pasta was as good as their mixed platter. They also allow alcohol BYOB at a small fee (best to call ahead and confirm if you plan to bring in your drinks). Vegetarian options: Falafel sandwich, penne Alfredo, mixed platter

In light of recent experiences, I feel compelled to share my feedback, although I generally refrain from writing unfavorable reviews. Unfortunately, my interactions with this establishment have been deeply disappointing on two separate occasions, and regrettably, I will not recommend or eat at this restaurant in the future. During our most recent visit, we endured the longest wait of over an hour for our meals after lunch rush, which ultimately never materialized. Our order consisted of two butter chicken dishes and one chicken salad. When my husband decided he could wait no longer for his salad, the staff assured us it would be ready in five minutes. However, it was only after more than an hour had elapsed that they conveyed to us that they had run out of the sauce required for the butter chicken. Had this crucial information been communicated promptly, we could have made alternative choices. My previous encounter with this establishment was equally disheartening. On that occasion, I had ordered a chicken salad, which took over 40 minutes to prepare. To my astonishment, when it was finally presented to me, it contained no chicken. When I inquired about the missing chicken, I was informed that the grill had been turned off. Had I not inspected my order before leaving, I would have unwittingly paid for a chicken-less chicken salad. These experiences have left me with a strong impression of disingenuity and a sense that customers are not being treated fairly. I do wish to acknowledge that the waiter who served us provided a commendable level of service, and I have no complaints in that regard.

On vacation in Corpus Christi my family and I happened upon the Ginger Cafe. What a gem! What a find, I wish I could award more than 5 stars! There are Mediterranean, Indian and American offerings, truly something for everyone. My son and I have multiple food allergies including a gluten and dairy allergy. There are several gf items clearly marked including shawarma and gyro among many others. Our server Bella took care that all of our dishes were safe for us. They took extra care and we did great with the food. We had stellar baba and hummus, flavorful delectable chicken lettuce wrap appetizer (a whole meal in and of itself!) also best lentil soup we ever had. The shawarma and gyro meats were perfectly seasoned and melted in your mouth. The dolmades were amazing as well. My husband had chicken tikka which he says tasted incredible along with awesome Turkish coffee. We loved it so much we went back two days in a row. Too bad we live 2000 miles away. If we lived locally we d be weekly regulars. Do yourself a favor when in the Corpus Christi area, support this amazing local family business, and treat yourself to an unforgettable ethnic culinary experience, you won t be disappointed!

I had a Greek salad with the gyro meat on the side. I did not think to ask at first for the dressing , but the tazaki was very lemony for my taste. It was very thick, I just thought it had too much lemon. The bread was hot and soft, maybe a touch underdone , but still good. My server was very nice, and she kept my water glass full and checked back often. It is out of my way for lunch , but I will go back. Nice inside , it was cool , very laid back ( of course, almost empty , it was after 1) Parking: This is in a small center with several other businesses, and if you go at peak meal time, you might find it hard to find a spot.

We went there for the first time in several years. I ve run out of places to get a good Gyro when I remembered these guys. The Gyro came out hot and stuffed with tomatoes, onions and a dose of tzatziki. I really enjoyed it though the tzatziki was a little to strong on the lemon or some spice I couldn t quite figure out, though not bad. I got the wedge potatoes which had some fattoush sauce on them and it was really a nice touch. The place was clean, the servers attentive and we look forward to coming back again, I really want to dive in and try their South Asian Cuisine Menu. Parking: Parking can be difficult during peak meal hours.

Once I payed at the register instead of the guy handing me my credit card, he held on to it, and walked to the entrance of the kitchen. I kept my eye on my card, but didn t get to see what he did. I was not waiting on an order, for him to go to the kitchen. If my card was compromised I ll know in a few of months. Just watch out if you notice this, and always pay at the register.
