We always have a great time at University Drafthouse in McAllen. Their food is top-notch! I love their artichoke dip and burgers. My favorite burgers are Turning Japanese, an ahi tuna burger with avocado and wasabi aioli, and the Graduate, an Angus beef burger that comes with melted brie cheese and sautéed mushrooms. Their tart, refreshing margaritas are the best in town, in my opinion. Their wait staff have all been friendly and courteous, but Ceci is server extraordinaire! In addition to being personable, she is knowledgeable, efficient, and attentive.

We loved our experience at University Draft House! Our host, Kaylee, was friendly and showed us to our table right away. Been many times, first in Edinburg years ago but mostly in McAllen. Food is excellent. Both last two times our family goes I ve had to ask for no mayo (can t eat eggs sad face) or no bbq sauce and they ve gotten it wrong twice but also fixed it twice without blinking an eye. Lots of customers. Usually pack. Closed Mondays. Live music outside. Special events inside. Amazingly cool renovated building: old fire house. Indoor/outdoor seating. Love the appetizers as well. Burgers are easily customizable. Vegan options not on menu, so ask for your favorite brand. Friendly. Great drinks too.

The beer is okay, the service is below average, and the food is greasier than all hell! Good luck getting a table, let alone decent service here on a weekend! I came here during a weekday at about 12 PM, and the service was still below average! Yardhouse is a much better alternative in every way! First time going and it was horrible service we sat outside cause we were a big group no room inside the waiters took forever to come we had small children and we at least wanted something to drink waiters took forever to attend to us when they finally came after a long time we were brought water and they left again took forever to take our orders we had to constantly be looking for someone to help us out they would come and go not asking us if anything else was needed they would take orders and leave and it was just all over the place some were getting food and others hadn t even been asked for their order or drinks our toddlers were crying of hunger cause they were taking so long to take our order one person from our group got up and wrote down all our orders and went to look for someone to get the order in we were sitting outside it was hot we just wanted to eat and leave finally food started coming in and then people were missing food everyone was eating already and I was still missing my food I was the last one to eat from the group it was horrible I had a very bad experience we got there at 12 for brunch and left at almost 3 that s how long it took to get everything

6 of us went to dinner here for the first time. Waiter was Michael G. He didn t tell us about the happy hour specials, 5:00pm, and when we asked didn t explain at all. Charged $5 for side salad on one meal, when he clearly said you could pick any side instead of fries. Charged us 18% gratuity for 6 people, pairs of 2, and we added extra tip because we were not informed it was there. Had to ask for silverware, flag him down for drink refills and even checks. Too daughter out to dinner for some father /Daughter time. Ordered two meals. One was the turning Japanese sandwich. My stomach became upset shortly after the meal. My daughter became extremely ill and began committing within just a great minutes of trying the pickles from my sandwich. I suspect there was definitely something wrong with some of the ingredients used in the sandwich. Service was slow. Two bands playing simultaneously made it very difficult to enjoy either band. Overall, a big disappointment.

Ive been here twice before but nothing compares to my experience today. I usually love the food & drinks, however today my me was delivered to me cold, Im taking extremely cold like it has been sitting out for 10 Minutes. My husband hand overly battered mushy fish which was supposed to be fish & chips. I dont think Ill give this place another shot. The food has been very good every visit. Service staff attentive and able to provide what you need. Downgrade was for billing, menu states substitute for Lil upcharge but you get full charge for item & substituted. Waiter shrugs and Mgr states that the computer knows best. We have learned to be very specific.

DO NOT COME HERE IF YOU VALUE KINDNESS AND SERVICE! A friend and I had just finished a nice brisk walk around the park thats located right outside the establishment. Beautiful pond, nice looking ducks (a bit smelly but its to be expected being a park and all), hot sunny day. We found the back gate to the establishment open and inviting, being parched and hungry, we walked right in and sat down on the patio chairs waiting to be welcomed by someone with a menu. There were three other people there and so we thought someone might be in a hurry for their next tip. They were NOT apparently. Then I thought, maybe they think were just resting, no biggie, I waved down the waiter and he explained that we went in through the wrong door so no one was waiting on us. Then I said, ok Ill go check in, he stopped me and said that he would call someone for us. Fifteen more minutes went by and we were still listening to the crickets. Then I told my friend to let me wave down the waitress with a ring through her nose, and she side eyed me and ignored my calls. My buddy had enough and we just left. Being ignored, lied to, and treated like we didnt matter because of the door we used is a little much, for a place that is in the service bizz. I left a one star on everything because I didnt get to taste the food, didnt get service, didnt even get to enjoy any of the atmosphere because we were literally ignored with three people sitting outside and 5 staff walking around out there with us. I HAVE NEVER BEEN TO A SERVICE ESTABLISHMENT THAT DIDNT WANT TO OFFER SERVICE IN MY LIFE, THIS PLACE WAS THE FIRST! There is in fact a first place for everything. Also, I did hear the place is a little pricey for what you get. I GUESS I HEARD RIGHT!

DONT COME HERE, unless you love being ignored.. My recent visit to University Draft House on April 11 at about 530pm left me feeling like I was giving up on the entire culinary universe due to complete neglect. Despite entering through the back entrance, which seemed like a friendly invitation, we were sadly met with neglect. After waving to get attention, we were told to check in at the front, even though the place was empty. The first waiter initially said we had to check in, but then paused and mentioned that he would send someone over. However, those promises of assistance went unfulfilled. After some time had passed, we attempted to catch another waitresss attention. She saw us but chose to completely ignore us anyway. Its clear that the staff and management, including the owners, are missing the mark on customer care. Feeling ignored and unimportant is never a pleasant experience. This isnt my first disappointing encounter with University Draft House. Previous issues at another location led me to give up on the brand. Sadly, this recent visit confirmed my decision to part ways with this establishment. To the owners: understanding the basics of customer service can make a world of difference. Its not just about transactions; its about making people feel valued. P.S. Maybe a crash course in How Not to Ignore Your Customers 101 would be a good investment.

Food was ok. It looks like they use frozen burger paddies. Food gave me a very upset stomach. I had the peach burger. I expected something more flavorful. They use canned peaches which was disappointing. I did try a bite of the tenders in buffalo sauce and they were very good. Reasonable prices.

Great place, was shocked when I got the bill and the bottles of water came were 4 dollars each, compared to 3 dollars for a margarita or beer. I would understand if the water bottle was a Fiji or other high end one, but it was a generic one you buy for less than a dollar.

Nice place to eat on a breezy night. Lovely view across the lake. Its not too terribly loud, though we could do without the TVs. We go out with friends to enjoy their company, not to watch TV. Like that its a dog friendly place, but its really loud for a dogs nerves.

Draft House is always a great experience, Kayla Karymme Castro was an excellent bartender who knew everything about the bar, spirits, and EVERY SINGLE BEER. She went above and beyond. I was shocked to hear she wasn t the GM of Draft house tbh with you. Great spot and will definitely be back
