I had a disappointing experience at this restaurant. Despite its negative reviews, I decided to give it the benefit of the doubt, only to find that the criticisms were indeed justified. If one is seeking a venue primarily for social media photography, this may be the right place; however, in terms of food and drinks, I see little reason to recommend it. First and foremost, the service was unsatisfactory. Our waiter seemed more focused on accommodating larger tables, leaving us feeling neglected throughout the evening. He consistently rushed through our interactions, departing even before we had finished speaking. On one occasion, we had to request the food menu from another table s waiter, as ours had abandoned us after taking our drink orders. When our appetizers arrived, they were served without plates, and we had to ask again for them due to overcrowding on our table. After the appetizers, our table was cleared without the waiter checking if we were ready to order our main courses. Ultimately, we had to summon the other table s waiter once again to request our check. Additionally, the quality of the food and drinks was subpar and overpriced, with charges of $5 for water and $18 for each mixed drink. To add to our dissatisfaction, the waiter stood beside me as I paid, seemingly ensuring that I would leave a minimum 18% tip. I generally enjoy dining out and am willing to spend money on quality food and excellent service; unfortunately, this establishment did not meet those expectations. I cannot recommend it and left feeling highly disappointed.

We went as a group of 9, the table we got was infested with crickets and black Beatles, and I m not joking. The service was just the worst I ve ever seen, they even gave us the tablets to look for our drinks because they could not find it, they took 40 minutes to bring a beer, the food was cold and not worth the price. At the end we had like 3-4 different servers. Also one of my friends already post a review about our experience but apparently it was taking down for some reason

We arrived at Tabu at 8:00 p.m. for our reservation. Upon arrival, we were immediately informed that we needed to leave by 10:00-10:30 p.m. due to another reservation following ours. In my experience at high-end restaurants, guests are usually allowed to enjoy their meal without a set time limit, so this was disappointing. We started with an Old Fashioned and a Manhattan, but both cocktails tasted like soda far from what we expected. Before ordering, we requested a wine menu, only to be told that the only option available was Stella Rosa, which isn t a high-quality wine (priced at $10 at HEB, yet listed at $80 a bottle here). The restaurant was so packed that the waiters kept bumping into my chair throughout the evening, which made the experience uncomfortable. When we asked for a receipt, we noticed they had charged us for drinks we didn t order. To top it off, our tab came to over $400, which is excessive given the quality of what we had. While the restaurant is beautifully designed and offers a great atmosphere, the overall experience with food and drinks fell short. If you re going for the ambiance, it s worth a visit, but for us, it s not worth returning.

The food and drinks were amazing, and the service was beyond phenomenal. The atmosphere was something very unique, not something you see often in the Valley. We had a resevasiom this weekend and it was one of the WORST experiences of my life! We consumed the starter, main course, dessert and drinks and the truth is they were not good at all. The cut of steak was not the right way, the chili water seemed like a vegetable cocktail because it didnt have any seafood. The waiter left our food aside to go to another table. The worst thing of all was that one of the waiters RUNNED us out because we were running out of time. We were NEVER notified at the time of making the reservation that this POQUITERO restaurant had a 2-hour limit. In my life I have been kicked out of a restaurant. The service was terrible, the waiters focused so much on other tables with large groups that they forgot about us. They have a shot show that they think is super spectacular but it has nothing to do with it. If they saw how ridiculous they look doing it, they would no longer be truthful. One of the waiters came to our table to tell us that we had to leave because there were more people who had reservations, in other words, our presence was not welcome, and we continued to consume. The manager of the restaurant who dresses in suits that were his but from when he had his FIRST CUMINION he behaved SUPER MEGA DESPOT, if you see him or have been to this place you will know who he is talking about. He neither apologized nor offered an explanation for this incident. It was a bit of a man to give us an explanation, the only thing EL VATO said Ok . Oh, they let you know that comfort or customer service is the least that matters to them! The only thing this restaurant cares about is making money and not giving them the best experience or quality of customer service. Not even the best restaurants in Las Vegas or Italy have fired me and they came to chase me from a restaurant that is in the ghetto area of Downtown McAllen. According to them they have valet parking, and they park your car in a place without electricity and super current 0% RECOMMENDED!!!

One of the worst restaurant experiences ever. The service was terrible. The waiter didnt know the menu well. He said they dont serve aguachile de ribeye just for me to see another customer get served an aguachile de ribeye at the table next to us. At the end of the service, the bill for a person in our party was incorrect. They charged them double what the physical menu item showed. While waiting for the manager to come by and resolve the issue, we found the menu online on their website with the same price as what the physical menu had said. The manager finally came by and proclaimed that the dish was priced correctly and that the website (which they have linked on their facebook page) and menu we had looked up was NOT theirs!! It was the exact same menu and restaurant name!! Is the menu that you physically gave us not yours either then? Just save yourself the trouble and dont dine here. Take your money somewhere youd actually be respected and served good food (thats the other thing, the food was completely not worth the price or headache). I dont usually write reviews but this place was so bad that I have to warn the public.

Celebrated a birthday dinner here last night. The atmosphere and our server Jonathan was excellent. Our issues stemmed from the cocktails we ordered and the millionaire nigiri and tomohawk steak. For 3 of us the tab came out to $1,000 including tip. My spouse ordered a dirty martini and the cocktail came back sweet. We spoke to the mixologist and I do not think that he knew how to make a proper martini. Dirty martini and or a dry martini should not have any sweetness at all. The slices of beef on top of the nigiri was paper thin. No beef flavor at all. All we tasted was the cilantro. The tomahawk, although with a good show, was overcooked to medium plus vs the medium rare we ordered. We sent the steak back and the chef came out to apologize and remade the steak. When it arrived the steak was blue. We sent the steak back again and it came back overcooked. I would expect if I am paying $1,000 for dinner, that the chef knows how to cook a steak.

*** Beware of Servers Scams Fees/Increasing Tip Percentages*** We were a party of two my wife and I and we recieved bill via electric hand held and we agreed. The server Cristhian was taking too long and we felt he was altering bill while he was beside us. Then when he showed us the tip and signature section it was a tip of 3-7%. I asked 3 times why tip part was so low and he says that it was because tips are optional. I asked if he included ans he finally tells us he already charged 18% but it was not visible. I told my wife something not right and asked 3 times for a pribted receipt after and they charged me 25% party gratuity, 4% fees, and then tried to get more by confusing us on thr additional tip. While I 100% believe they deserve 20%+ in tip it is the pure ethics and stealing and not right. We spoke to Luis the manager and he was polite and very appologetic and offered to refund tip. We did not accept any refunds but only sharing because when sharing our story with a friend they stated they did same to them. I dont want to say anything bad about resturant, food, experience as it was good!!! Just be BECAREFUL AND GET FULL PRINTED BILL PRIOR TO PAYING. Include below copy of receipt... if you dont pay attention you could be taken advantage of also.

I celebrated my birthday here last weekend and it wasn t the best experience, food was good no complaints there but I made my reservation for 20 people, and when I arrive there they only had 16 chairs I told the waitress and he said Well let s just keep it like that in case some people don t show I did advise him they were all confirmed in fact I needed more chairs due it was going to be 22 in total, I asked him a couple of times and finally he added a table with chairs, then we all ordered our food which again everything was good but he over charged us, Pasta was $30 and he charged us $48 for it, he took around 30 minutes getting our tab and when it finally get here, there was overcharges and also he included 2 more waters on a tab and he couldn t even said from who it was (he created a tab only for waters and 2 beers and it was $80!!) I asked him from who are those waters and he said from some people who already left (which was a lied cause my friends did PAID for those waters before they left) At the end of the night I didn t even wanted to argue due it was my birthday and I wanted to have a good time but overall the experience was stressful, place it is beautiful and I loved the atmosphere but I doubt I would go back again because of service and over charges.

First time in. Beautiful modern restaurant. Our server Edgar was excellent: very attentive and polite. Quick turnaround for the drinks and meals for our table of 10 people. Going in I assumed I would be forced into a high dollar bill, but the menu definitely offers a variety of items that fits all budgets. Even the drinks were fairly priced at around $10. I will definitely be returning. It was a really fun evening and the servers work hard to create a great experience for their tables.

It was my first time ever here worst service ever, went for a friends birthday dinner and she specifically told them 17 people. When we got to the restaurant they sat us at a table for 11 people. The food took an hour and half to come. One server hit my friend over the head walking through with drinks and didn t even apologize. Food portions are not good either, everyone at the table was complaining. Even after my friend said to cancel her order after an hour they still brought it. Will not be returning and I don t recommend this place unless you like music that is extremely loud that you can t even hear the person in front of you talk.

My husband and I are always on the prowl for new places so we decided to try this place out because we hadn t been here before. To start, the environment was beautiful. Very well decorated and pretty good music. We got seated pretty quickly for not having a reservation. I ordered a popular drink (double paraiso) and it was definitely different in terms of presentation but it was $20 and I couldn t really taste or feel the alcohol. We ordered the ribeye chicharron as an appetizer and waited about 30 minutes after placing that order to order our food. The appetizer came out and before we could try it, our entrees came out so we couldn t enjoy our appetizer. My chicken fettuccine was a 2 on a scale of 1-10. The pasta was boxed, the chicken was dry and the cheese sauce wasn t very flavorful. My husband ordered the ribeye and just said that he d prefer Longhorn or Roadhouse. The tortillas they serve with the chicharron de ribeye aren t homemade either. The prices are on the higher end in terms of quality of the food served. For the prices, the food is definitely a miss. The water is $5 for a small bottle so that was another turnoff because we weren t asked whether we d like bottled or tap. To end the night, we received a FEES section on our receipt of $5.01, which we were so confused about. We didn t question it because we truly just wanted to pay and be on our way. We value our time and experiences because we are always so busy and we were disappointed with this place. The hostesses were sitting on their chairs, on their phones while we walked out. No farewell, no thank you, no courtesy. Overall, not the place to be or experience in the RGV. I can see the hype, but that s all this place is. If you re a foodie and someone who loves amazing experiences, I wouldn t recommend.

I have came here before as my first time and had an amazing dinner and drinks! The second time, not so much. Our server, Sergio, was not very attentive to us and was extremely rude when we needed to close our tabs. It took about 50 minutes to receive our check when we had asked several times, and never got a truthful answer. He seemed very frustrated and overwhelmed even though he only had 2 large tables. I understand it can get busy, but at least be respectful and more attentive for your customers. Before we received our checks, he was constantly going to another large table about 4 times, before he finally gave us our tabs. I also ordered a rib eye show and there wasn t a show at all. The food, drinks, and the vibe are top notch amazing, but this server experience was not great at all. I spoke to the hostesses up front and asked for a manager, but all I got was a apology from them. I m hesitant on coming back again after this experience, sorry, but I was truly disappointed.

If youre going there for the decor then this is the place for you. If youre going for the food or the service, DONT! I got the honey mustard chicken. It was bland as hell. No seasoning whatsoever. Just nasty, mashed potatoes taste like chalk. The asparagus was decent. My server had an attitude and a stank face the whole time. To make a bad situation worse. When the check came, there was gratuity added. I had to pay 10 bucks, and my friend 15. I understand some restaurants charge gratuity of parties of 6 or more. But it was TWO of us. Why was gratuity charged?!?! This was not listed anywhere on the menu or the table. I felt like I got robbed. Food and service was trash, and I had to tip 10 for that. Wont be going back ever.

The food was very delicious, I ordered some very delicious Creole empanadas. The service was very good, the waitress was always attentive, the other waiters were very attentive and friendly, the bar tender helped me charge my cell phone 10/10, the Vallet staff were very polite. Had high hopes but it was one disappointment after another. Went around 8pm and it wasnt very busy. There were maybe 3 other tables that i saw so i was expected service to be decently fast. I was wrong. Service was incredibly slow. Probably took about 15-20 minutes just to put appetizer order in, another 15-20 to get actual order in. The ceviche was good, but the fettuccine con pollo was really disappointing. The chicken was a fried flattened chicken patty instead of grilled. The pasta was nowhere near the quality i would expect for $25. The last insult was a 27% gratuity that was automatically added to the bill for a party of 2. Even their suggested tips on the bill max out at 25%. So, TL;DR: slow service, disappointing food, and an automatic 27% tip added to bill for 2 people.

I m disappointed, I came here for my birthday and was looking forward to this place. My expectations decreased as I saw where they were seating us obviously this place is greedy for money because they have you shoulder to shoulder with other tables. My boyfriend had to get up a couple of times so waitresses can get through. I don t understand how you ask guests to move?? They are understaffed and it s probably not the waitresses fault. Waitress got my order wrong and I ordered some more items that he didn t bring but I m glad he didn t because food was mediocre. I just wanted to get out of there if I m being honest. Oh, and our tab was 140 and waitress charged himself a $32 tip. Ig they don t have to work for their tips because all he did was cater to the larger tables.

Save your time and money! I should of known how the night would go l as soon as the reservation I made was not made. They had to put an extra table by the kitchen entrance / bar . In the middle of all the incoming and outgoing traffic. The food was way over priced for the amount and the quality of it. The drinks were lacking something. The taste wasnt there. They try and make up for it with all of the song and dance , the sparklers and drink service show but it doesnt change the lack of quality. At the end of the night they tack on an extra $70 gratuity fee?? It was 2 people with 2 entrees and drinks. I was sitting next to the bar and kitchen, what extra service was being provided? And over a $300 tab? You will have a better time at Santa Fe!
