Upon arrival, the establishment was a bit empty. The servers were friendly, but to my liking, the explaining of each dish was unnecessary as it created expectations that were not met. Everything had its unique flavor, but it was still a bit bland. We also came here to celebrate a birthday (it was specified in the reservation) but there was no acknowledgment of such celebration, which made the person being celebrated a bit sad. Additionally, the outside area had a different menu, which I didn t really understand why

We had an absolutely magnificent experience at España from the meal to the service to the beautiful environment inside and outside. We enjoyed dinner inside with the filet being the highlight of our meal and then ended the evening outside checking out the live music then sitting at the bar for some well crafted cocktails. We are in from out of town and look forward to returning the next time we re in McAllen!

The reason why I did not give it 5 stars was not for the foot. The food was very good, we dined inside, although there was live Jazz going on outside it was just too humid. Our waiter constantly checked up on us to the point of annoyance, you do not to constantly keep asking is everything okay just pass near is and if we need something we will let you know. Also, we were twice interrupted by solicitors selling flowers, how can they permit this?! Is not this type of establishment. My drink order was wrong but waiter insisted it was correct, do not argue with customer just give the option to change or take drink away. I gave it to my partner I did not want to argue with waiter. Overall, I do recommend the food but go check for yourselves and maybe it was just my experience!

The restaurant is charming inside and outside. The atmosphere is excellent; it is a very cozy place. The servers were very knowledgeable of the menu and incredibly lovely. The food was excellent! You can tell that they have an experienced chef. We ordered the oxtail empanadas and the osso buco. Tasty! My wife and I had a wonderful time.

Espana Nouveau restaurant located in McAllen Texas! Issac Guerra is a great chef! He definitely provided a lovely dining experience! Experienced a fantastic five course meal suggested by a talented, artistic and personable multi talented man Issac himself! Food was very good along with Presentation! Watermelon cocktail was out of this world! They even have edible petals! The atmosphere was fabulous you can sit inside or outside! Visiting from Houston, where restaurants we love are dining experiences, we lucked into finding Espana. To start off with, the lady in our group wanted a fruity cocktail that was not too sweet or syrupy. Eric, mixologist extrordinaire, did not disappoint and crafted a watermelon based beverage that was perfectly balanced and flavorful. Segueing into dinner, we had a great meal, we (3 adults) opted for a chef tasting, and Isaac Guerra did not disappoint. Starting with Saenz Tapas, a second tapas I dont remember the name of, we then had a spinach salad with berries, pecans, blue cheese, and duck cracklins. Next was a mouth-watering serving of baked oysters with spinach and cheese that was a wonderful flavor experience. For the main course, Isaac prepared a pasta perfectly seasoned with steamed mussels and clams that capped off a perfect meal. Then, to punctuate the meal, we were served a house version of Banana Flambe that was decadent delicious. If you are in McAllen and want a dining experience by all means, get to Espana, and if you have an adventurous palate, ask for a chef tasting it will not disappoint!

What a magnificent restaurant. We had some great seafood dishes, that Issac Guerra, the creator of Espanas suggested. Every dish was extraordinary, the oysters, the seafood pasta, the salad, everything. The service was outstanding. The bartender had been with Isaac for eight years. The waiter had been with him for twenty six years. The whole place had an elegant but friendly vibe. Treat yourself.

Fantastic food Sea bass was excellent with a beautiful presentation. The plátano with carmel drizzle for dessert WOW! The wine Isaac selected for us was a perfect pairing- great minerality along with citrus notes; well blended, a nice white wine. Matthew and Luis were extremely attentive and so personable. We had a dinner meeting here in the private room. The atmosphere, service and food were amazing. Every bite of food was delicious and beyond expectations. Robert provided excellent and impeccable service. We had 14 people served and not a beat was missed. Isaac, the owner, met with our group, and he brings a light to the atmosphere that enhances the experience, and he has beautiful stories. I appreciated the great service from the waiter for attending us quickly and accurately. He took initiative to help us with our order. We came in for drinks and to enjoy the live jazz music. So helpful. I hope to see him next time we visit. And the Hostess who remembered us and sat us at an outdoor table as soon as they opened up. Very kind staff and also that watermelon margarita was so pretty and delicious. That chile rim and the dried blood orange was yummy to snack on. The food here was excellent, I loved the appetizers more than the main dish and you could definitely order them as your main dish. The Camarones del Rey were delicious, the sauce and bread was superb, the shrimp was large and cooked perfectly. The Oxtail Empanadas were another delicious dish that we all wanted more, the meat was very tender and flavorful. The Taco was good, but I would have preferred if the meat they used for it was similar in texture to the one used for the empanadas. Overall the food is delicious and the service is great, later at night they have people playing music live, it is an amazing place to celebrate a special occasion.

What an incredible experience! We had family visiting from out of town and Robert Sanchez and the rest of the staff elated us with an amazing night. Came here last night to get a taste of their 6 course valentines dinner. We walked in and were seated promptly so we assumed service would be stellar considering this was a $300 dinner. However the service was very very far from that. We waited 30 minutes before we ever had a waiter come up to us and simply serve us water without asking if we wanted any other drinks they had available. When we finally got the chance to ask we waited an additional 40 minutes from the time we asked for drinks to ever receive them. Shortly after we started to receive our courses out of order to which the waiter made an excuse for & tried to put the blame on us. Mind you he did this the entire night whenever we asked for utensils, our drinks or the rest of our courses. Eventually we realized we had been here over 2 hours & never received 2 of the other courses. So we asked if we could just get them to go instead because we imagined we d never receive them. Our waiter was an older gentleman with glasses & from our perspective It seemed like the customer experience didn t matter to him & only however he was feeling was important. The food we did receive was packed with flavor & came to us fresh. However the customer service was beyond poor & was not something only we experienced as it appeared the entire staff was lost & confused the entire night leaving all of their customers to never consider another night here.

Terrible experience and Allergic Reaction. Last night was valentines day and my husband reserved a six course meal for us at least a week in advance. When he booked the reservation he made it a point to speak with Letty to let her know that I have dietary restrictions and cannot have dairy. Letty provided that arrangements would be made to accommodate my food allergy. We arrive the day of and no preparations were made. We paid for six courses of which I only had three, and two of the three triggered an allergic reaction. I asked our server, and the manager to triple check if there was any dairy in my food prior to eating. This would often involve being served then waiting with my food in front of me before risking a bite. It was clear that service was overwhelmed and unable to accommodate me. I wish that this had been addressed prior to our arrival and prior to spending over $250 for dinner. By the time we got home (10 minutes after dinner) I began to experience severe swelling and will continue to be uncomfortable for the next 5 days due to my food allergy being activated. DO NOT EAT HERE IF YOU HAVE FOOD INTOLERANCES OR ALLERGIES.

We had been wanting to try this place for some time and we finally got our chance yesterday for a special V-Day 6 course meal they had going on. Overall the place and atmosphere is beautiful and the food is phenomenal. We waited an hour just to get water in our glasses, and when our 6-course meal finally arrived, it came out completely out of order. To add, our waiter forgot to even put in our drink order, prolonging our wait even further. When we finally asked for the check, he took our card away without even giving us the opportunity to review the bill. Not the best of experiences consider this was my first time here. Arrived there around 8pm and it took about 10 minutes for someone to provide us a menu in the patio area where a great jazz band was playing. The waiter took our food order and drinks. Drinks didnt show up until 15 minutes later. The waiter would give us an update around every 10 minutes. Around 920pm the waiter tells us the food we ordered was burnt and can provide us something us. Not wanting to wait we asked for the check on the drinks. Overall, not very satisfied with the overall service.

This is our first diner at Espana Nouveau Mediterranean. I was so surprised of the atmosphere and ambience, so cozy, warm welcome and familiar. It was on Saturday, and they have live music in the garden. The food are delicious, seasoned so well that the freshness of each ingredient retained its own flavor. I had the Duck and Crème Brûlée for dessert. The Duck was essentially half the bird. Breast and Leg Quarter. This place deserves nothing less than five stars. From the time you walk in, you feel like you are at home and you are greeted by the friendly staff. I had the pleasure of having Robert as my server. He walked me through the menu and gave me some really good recommendations on food and drinks. I ordered the MARISCOS COSTA BRAVA. It came out hot and phenomenal. The drinks were also solid. Natalie was able to walk me around the restaurant to describe the art and the feel of the place. Then on top of that they had live music which will capture you in even more with the vibe. The owner Isaac was super down to earth and took a lot of pride into his restaurant. I will highly recommend you try this unique restaurant out. You will definitely fall in love. I know I did!!!

The prices may seem high until you taste it - it was worth every penny! We had to bring some home with us, because the serving size is quite generous. There was a man selling roses, and a musician. I showed up on a bad day I guess. They had just opened so everything was really dirty: table, floors, chairs, etc. The floor was wet at the entrance where they had just mopped. I was constantly swatting away the flies. On the positive, the staff was very friendly, the food is fantastic, and overall had a good time. It is what it is. Things happen, so I hope to come back and have a better experience next time.

Worst place to eat!!! Our second server was good our first was horrible. We didnt eat because they ran out of what we ordered and didnt let us know until like 40 minutes after we ordered. They also charged us for 2 drinks we didnt order and the beer was not cold. The live music was horrible and had to wait in line to use the filthy restroom. Never again will I come here. This restaurant was EXTRAORDINARY! We took our servers suggestion and ordered the DUCK, which was hands down the BEST I have had ANYWHERE. We shared, so we had room for appetizers AND Bananas Flambé - which was prepared tableside - dramatic AND delicious!!! The table next to us ordered smoked Old Fashion cocktails that looked. (and smelled) wonderful! NOT inexpensive, but WORTH every PENNY!!! What we thought was lovely piped in music was actually a live musician out back! I can see why this place has been half a dozen different places in the last 10 years. Starting with the reservation that can be made online but means that the hostess will seat you at the most ridiculous bar table, despite the main dining area being 90% empty. Then you have to wait some twenty minutes to get some service from a waiter who while nice has been obviously set up to fail since he s waiting on a large amount of tables all over the place. Just to note, two different parties took off due to the same issue while we waited. At least the tapas and appetizers came out somewhat quickly. However, the tapas seem to be a Texas sized interpretation of what you can find in Spain since they end up being almost the size of an entree you would get in the Spanish countryside. The main dishes were cooked ok but were obviously left under a heat lamp for some time until the overworked waiter eventually managed to get to them. Didn t even feel like asking for a desert or aperitif since it probably would have meant waiting another 40 minutes. Hard to find something to recommend, just go to any of the other restaurants on Main, I m sure this place will rebrand itself in a year or two as it has thus far.

There just arent words to express how amazing this place is! Upon arriving, about 30 minutes after they opened for the day, we were greeted and given a tour of the inside dining, bar and outside dining. We chose to sit outside, as it was such a nice night. The decor was beautiful! They told us about the live music that they have every night and the artwork displayed is purely amazing. We were very impressed by the esthetic of the place even before the owner introduced himself to us and told us that most of the paintings were his own. He, and the other two waiters that we had the pleasure of serving us, made us feel like family the entire time we were there. The food and drinks were absolutely amazing! We tried the Saenz Tapas and the Paella Valenciana. The food itself was artwork and so delicious! My only disappointment was that when I ordered the drink, Holy Smokes, I wasnt expecting it to come out under a glass dome filled with smoke and didnt get a video. My husband and I agree that this was the best restaurant experience and service that either of us have ever had. We honestly both felt very underdressed for the beautiful place that it is, but we certainly werent treated like we were.

Recently revisited Espana Nouveau Mediterranean. The original was fantastic, we were exceedingly surprised to discover that this version of Espana is just as great! The food is amazing, the waitstaff pampering, the atmosphere magical and romantic. Image our great surprise when I learned that the current owner is the same Issac Guerra that owned the original. He sat down with us and we had a great conversation. It was like seeing an old friend after many years. He offered to give my family a tour of his downtown art gallery. So with a bottle of wine and mezcal in hand we went to The Phoenix Art Gallery and had the opportunity to view amazing art. Cannot say enough good things about Espana and its owner, will definitely be returning.

The food here is awesome. Very well executed, tasty and great drinks. Some of the dishes are pricey, but were talking about high quality ingredients. Lamb, duck, short ribs, and I think I saw steak too. The seafood paella is very tasty and had a lot of seafood, the rice was so tasty, I almost wish there was more rice! This place has really surprised us! My husband and I got married here back when this was Infusions. And so we go every anniversary. We were so sad that it had changed, but it has surprised us by how AMAZING food and drinks were. The ambience is amazing with a live band. The servers are so kind and awesome to talk to. I ve been here twice and both times I was served by luis. He is the server with less common sense I ve ever been served by. He is rude and lacks hospitality. He will not come to your table. He will see empty glasses and will not offer a refill. He will see empty plates and will not take them. When he does come to the table rudely interrupts the person that is talking. Both of our visits we had to ask other servers multiple times for help with refills and plates because luis was never there. The other servers are very helpful so if you come I recommend asking for someone else. A high end restaurant shouldn t hire servers this bad. Food is good but the service given by luis is so bad that it doesn t allow to enjoy the food.

Made reservations to celebrate my husbands birthday and the whole experience was great. The ambience was just was I had envisioned. Romantic & Quaint! What a lovely experience we had at España last night. Over 20 years ago we would frequent this restaurant and it was one of our favorites in McAllen. We celebrated a birthday with friends with whom we used to frequent this wonderful and charming dining establishment. It changed hands for awhile and lost imuch of ts former luster, but hadnow returned to the capable and artistic hand of Isaac Guerra. It was brilliant to have it return to its former excellence. We enjoyed the astrosphere of the patio. Exquisite food. Crisp and attentive service. Art on the walls. Art in the presentation of the food. Most importantly, a return to the facile art of fine cuisine. Additionally, they maintain a top shelf beverage list of choices which include a fine international selection of wines, creative cocktails, and a a variety of beers and ales. Isaac, Eva, Robert, and Lebee couldnt have made our stay more enjoyable. We cannot recommend this orchestra of the senses more highly. Save your money. In fact go down the street to mycuhna, salt or salome. Even the food trucks down main are better. The service is incredibly slow. We waited 45min for our appetizers. When the food eventually arrived it was a huge disappointment. Do not order the camarones endiablados unless you like marinera sauce and over cooked shrimp on some rather bizarre mashed potatoes?? My friends ordered the ribs and they were very interesting. The meat had a lot of fat and it tasted bland. We also ordered the Salmon and again...just a ton of marinera sauce (did not taste homemade) with some olives and some cilantro. The only plate that did not completely disappoint was the pasta. Not good but wasnt gross like the other plates. The drinks were mediocre and watered down. Our waiter was trying his best but he was the only one serving the outdoor section. They need additional waiters and a menu revamp. Honestly, 10/10 go literally anywhere else.

If I could give NO stars I would. We got there the waitress did not give us the food menu stating the kitchen was closing in 20 minutes. We rushed asked for two appetizers to make it quick and easy yet she did not enter the second one. Then she brought the wine we ordered which was the Elana obviously there are 2 which I wasn t aware a $10 difference which I understand everyone makes mistakes yet I did not want to pay the for something I was unaware and did not order I then spoke to the manager who was awfully rude did not try to help right away he came said yes it was her mistake but you have to pay for it and literally walked away.
