About the Company

rating: 4.6

McPherson Cellars is a contemporary winery, tasting room, and event venue in Lubbock, TX. The three generations of the family have been in the wine industry for over 50 years. We work with fruit entirely from the Texas High Plains AVA, available for purchase in our tasting room, online, throughout Texas and many other states. Our downtown tasting room allows guests to taste an array of wines, ranging from Albariño to Sangiovese and several blends in between. We believe that Texas wines can be world class, and aim to offer a relaxed and convivial space to share our wine and philosophy with our friends and community. Open Tuesday-Saturday for tasting flights, wines by the glass or bottle, and complimentary tours.

I didnt want to leave McPherson Cellars but I had more stops to make. I was thrilled to meet the owner, Kim McPherson. Also, Addison and Hailey actually enjoyed hearing about my ongoing road trip, with it involving hot air balloons and tram rides, etc... Everyone was friendly and charming, and the wine was top notch!

12 October, around 1:30 pm. Sign on the door indicated they were open for business. We were ready to do some taste testing and were in the mood to buy something. Walked in to an empty store with plenty of product on display with awards on display. No one around. Walked around for 10 minutes and walked out wondering how they stay in business.

As with everything Texas does, this winery is amazing. More people should experience the old vine varietal wines that the Texas High Plains offer. McPherson is by far one of the best. Their tasting room and patio are amazing. Lubbock has much more to offer than just Texas Tech sports (no offense and Guns Up!) The Petit Syrah and Albarino are sublime!! Enjoy!

The place itself is great. The wines are just mediocre. I opted for a red tasting and wasn t impressed by any of the wines. My server was great and very friendly. A tasting consists of 6 wines and I wish they would rinse the glasses with wine before about the 4th wine. I personally wasn t a fan of the wines but that s why there are so many varieties. I d recommend stopping for a tasting.

I need to apologize first off because I have been here many times since 2014 and realized I have not left a review. My experience here has always been great we make it a point to take good friends here. We have been lucky to get a tour from Kim himself, networked with business owners, and of course done wine tastings. My girlfriend loves their Blush wine and as for me I tend to go with a good dry red wine. The staff is knowledgeable and seem to study the wines well. I want to give Abby part of the credit for talking my girlfriend into trying more wines and sending us home with 8 bottles this most recent visit.

Haven t been to the wine tasting BUT I recently bought a bottle of the 2016 Viogner and all I can say is WOW.. I have experienced wine from some of the most amazing wine farms in South Africa and always told everyone how much I hated American wines.. This bottle is exquisite, I went back to the bottle store and bought all they had, hoping they find a few more bottles. When I get the chance I will definitely be stopping by the wine farm for a tasting

My wife and I visited just for wine tasting, and I was impressed by the Cinsault. I was not a fan of much else though. The other wines were forgettable, the presentation was a simple, in-and-out, scripted description that left us feeling like we werent worth the time of the girl serving us. Maybe it was an off day for the staff? Unfortunately that cannot be the excuse for most the wine.

Just received (Sept 2019) my wine club shipment of 2018 Roussanne. It is amazing. Had it with a seafood salad dinner and it went so well that I almost drank the whole bottle. The Roussanne grape seems to grow very well in Texas, and I am happy to see McPherson using the grape for a stand alone wine.

We had our wedding at Mc Phersons. The venue was beautiful. We had our ceremony on the patio under the pergola and the reception inside. Thomas Thurman who helped us schedule, plan and choose our wine selection was incredible to work with. He knows his wine and has so much experience for someone so young. On the day of the event, everyone there was friendly and helpful which eased my nerves. The wine may have helped, too.

May 27, 2016. My sister and daughter had a 50th birthday party for me. Beautiful venue. The problem was the music. Many rules concering music, but my daughter was told she could have a play list with our music selections. My daughter and I spent a couple of hours developing my play list for my party. Once arriving the employees at the wine bar said, they could only use their phones and only use Pandora. Well Pandora scans music. This was a problem no one danced!!!! Correction, one time people did dance. I believe the young lady playing music intentionally changed the music when she was asked to play music from a certain error. Room full of people wanting to dance to R&B/Soul and blues, instead we heard Pop, Rock, Electonic dance. It was so frustrating. Several times I would look at her, she had this smerk on her face. This told me this was intentional. She was asked if we could call someone to ask if we could play our play list, she said no!!. My daughter called to complain, but of course since McPhersons was paid in full, no one has returned her call. Word of advice, Maybe you shouldnt have racist hosting/ working your parties. McPhersons sell wine, but the two employees at the bar only had 2 bottles of wine to choose from. Does the owner care? This was a contract breach. I am considering contacting BBB.

One of the worst experiences we have ever had! My sister and I went for a wine tasting 11/07/2015. We were not greeted with a hello! We didnt even have service for over five mins. We stood in line and were over looked until finally one guy said can I help with something? Uh yea were here for the same reason as everyone else, to drink wine! Finally we start the wine tasting and the guy pretends to be very unknowledgeable of the wines. I then ask if they serve fruit trays and he says no! I give him a look like yea you do and he then says I have to go see if they are willing to make one. At this point Im like how much do I owe you? We will never revisit this place we felt so discriminated!

I have not had my wedding yet, but so far Aundi with McPherson has gone ABOVE AND BEYOND to help me. My bridals were scheduled to be outside and the day we were to shoot our bridals there was a dust storm. We had no where to go and the I called Aundi and she spent her Sunday (with her kids) at McPherson so I could have my bridals taken. Also Aundi has gone above and beyond coordinating my wedding- making sure I have loose end tied and keep ing me calm. This facility is BEAUTIFUL on the inside and out (which means less decorations needed). I would highly recommend this McPherson to anyone!
