Went there for an interview, Said they were urgently hiring. I had 3 years of fine dining history and they said at first i would be a perfect fit for their team. Everything changed when they saw my hair (curly 4a hair) and said I would need to pull it back for the job. Then proceeded to never get back to me. Throughout the interview they were telling me the training process and asking for a set day i could start. Literally put my hopes up. Wasted my time and the manager is racist. Apparently has roaches as well. Dont eat here.

We have eaten here before and found the food to be good. We were willing to spend $200 for our anniversary dinner. Our reservation was for 2 people. We were seated in a smaller room that had a party of 25 celebrating a wedding and 2 empty 8 person tables. The wedding party were very happy and shouting over each other to be heard. Even our server could not hear our order without a 2nd or 3rd try. As we were waiting for our food the two empty tables were filled. They found that they needed to shout so the others at their tables could hear them. The final straw was when the food came it came with a breaded cheese stick - after specifically saying one of us had to be gluten free. Removing the cheese stick isnt a solution because of cross contamination. We asked for the check so we could leave. The manager came and continued to give the standard corporate apology. When I repeated that I wanted the check and leave without eating he decided to comp the meal we didnt eat. This was the worst experience Ive had at such an expensive resturant. We will not return and will discourage others from going themselves.

Excellent melt in your mouth filet with a wonderful wine sauce. The mashed potatoes and cream corn were out of this world. The martini was so tasty. The chocolate cake is the size of Manhattan I swear. It is so good but huge. I wish they had bread instead of the cheese stick or bring the cheese stick out before the entree.

Ordered a New York strip and 14oz Filet, both well done with NO pink. The strip was charred but ok. The filet was blood red. The waiter was embarassed & asked if he could take it back. At first I told him no worries, the end piece was fine. However, when I began eating, the rest of the steak was not only red but cold. He came by to check again and I asked him to please have it heated up. After about 15 mins it came back a bit warmer but blood red still. After one bite I just decided to take it home and cook it. The broccoli side was cold, baked potato fine. For a $73 piece of meat I have to cook myself, I d have to say it s a bit pricey. The waiter was super apologetic and gifted me another potato/broccoli side. After all, it wasn t his fault. I m almost 70 and never have sent anything back. Our bill was $189, for which I usually expect a nice meal for me and the wife. Needless to say, I ll eat elsewhere going forward.

Very disappointed with my experience. I come to Lubbock every month and have tried lots of different spots. I kept waiting to go to double nickel and finally gave it a go tonight. First off I ordered my food and my salad came out 2 seconds before my steak arrived. No big slower night, I like to taste throughout my meal anyway. The steak it self was fine...nothing special but also not terrible, creamed corn tasted like it was frozen corn that hadnt been recooked. Again not terrible but not a 55$ entree either. (Also the menu had a different price for the ribeye but nonetheless) My bartender/server (I sat at the bar) not once checked in on me until the food was gone. For my money I will choose to return to west table or la sirena

Do not eat here. Among the worst dining experiences we ve had. The ownership has an air of entitlement and arrogance, which we only found out because the management was pedestrian and useless. The food is more or less decent, nothing to write home about. Overall, If you re looking for a good night out at a steakhouse, there are plenty of options around Lubbock. Save yourself the regret.

The desserts are all HUGE and very good, and they will even light the bananas foster on fire at your table if you want them too. If you ask for a to go wrap instead of a box, they wrap your leftovers in foil and make a swam out if it. Ive never been anything but 100% pleased with my experience at the Double Nickel.

So disappointed. First time visitor with an out of town guest in tow. Sadly I now know why this restaurant remained half empty on a Saturday night. They did not have the wine I wanted, nor Glenfiddich, Sambuca, or Espresso. The house salad (that costs an extra $6.95) was basically shredded lettuce, my hot appetizer came out after everyone else was done with theirs, and it was cold, and the bread, (an extra $2.50 per person), seemed to have come from a grocery store. The Manager tried to make it right but I recommend you go elsewhere.

My steak was bland. I was sad because I was so looking forward to some good food. But when the sides are better than the star, come on ... Who screwed up and got walmart steak. They will never know. Guess again, we know. Tough and dry like IHOP, but at least IHOP seasons their food, and at IHOP, its to be expected. Maybe the chef was off that night. I dont know. It was my first time eating here. We just moved here from Midland. Did I send it back ? No ! I was hungry!! But with every bite, I cringed . The only reason I gave a 3 star was that the front staff was amazing . I will probably go back . Only because I believe in second chances. And my wife enjoys a romantic date night... Maybe one of the other choices will be better next time.

It was tart, but if you like sweet tasting salad it was good. We order crab stuffed mushrooms and they were phenomenal. Lots of yummy sauce to enjoy. We ordered the Bananas Foster. They lit it at the table. It was fun to watch and delicious. The establishment definitely makes you feel like you need to dress up and act proper . However, I did see people in shorts and casual wear. The hey only enforce the no hat policy. Wear your Sunday best! We made reservations for my son s birthday for 5:30 on 9/23. We were warmly welcomed and immediately seated. The staff were attentive, knowledgeable, and very helpful. We ordered the bacon shrimp and crab stuffed mushrooms. Both appetizers were delicious. For my entree, I got the ribeye double nickel style topped with lump crab and shrimp with spinach rockefeller and sautéed mushrooms. My steak was cooked perfectly and the sides were delectable. But the best part of our evening was the bananas foster! Not only was it the flambé fun to watch, but the dessert was one of the best desserts we ve ever had. Unassuming facade. Romantic, dimly lit, cozy interior. Service standards are a blast from the past - etiquette that has mostly been lost today. Food was not drowning in sauces/spices, but well-balanced flavors throughout. Husband had filet mignon, I had Atlantic Salmon. We each had a glass of wine, and received surprise complimentary glasses of champagne while celebrating our recent elopement. Matt is going to be an excellent addition to your crew - said he has about a week of training left. Bananas foster for desert was rich, dense, and filling. We couldnt finish! Folks in everything from tshirts to button downs treated with respect and high class dignity/service. We will return when in the area! Thank you!

I mentioned that I had a medical condition, but they said they did not allow hats in their establishment. I removed my hat reluctantly but complied. The waiter proceeded to get our order wrong several times, along with one of the steaks not coming out at all. After all the chaos, the manager came over and apologized. I appreciated his genuine concern. However, I will find another steakhouse next time I want to spend that kind of money.

The best steakhouse in Lubbock waffles between the Double Nickel and Las Brisas. Right now, Double Nickel has Las Brisas beat handily: their seasoning and temp are spot on, while Las Brisas has gotten pepper heavy and a little over seared (in other words: burnt pepper). I form this opinion based on several visits to both; so, Im not speaking of a single bad experience. I still enjoy both but Double Nickel has the edge at the moment.

2 stars- best part about our visit and only items worth the double nickel price were the drinks. Tables were so crammed in the dining area, to get to and from our table without disturbing every person in our path was impossible. ***bathrooms were disgusting**** Husband said his shoes stuck to the floor in the mens bathroom. He also had to ask for the towels to be refilled after not being able to dry his own hands. The womens smelled worse than a sewer. Our waiter was extremely polite, professional, and helpful. However, he was very overloaded. He had a very large party and several tables in the main dining area. Food... was subpar at best! Not to mention the wait. Steak was ordered rare and came out medium well if not well done. For the price, that was a huge disappointment.

Been coming for years, but last night was awful. Wife ordered the filet as always and said it was perfect. I normally do the same, but decided on the Steak Au Poivre and my usual side of spinach rockefeller. The steak came out and they had me inspect the steak for the temperature. I ordered rare but this was a medium rare leaning more on the cooked side. Im not one of those guys who sends it back, but I should have. I told him its overcooked but that I would eat it. Ive never paid $68 for a steak and only eight about a third, but I couldnt eat anymore of it. It was so tough. My knife had a hard time cutting a tendon. It was overcooked and not as I ordered, but that parts on me. I will say the seasoning on the steak was excellent. But it was a very bad selection of steak. The spinach rockefeller typically comes in a ramekin with cheese on top. Apparently the cheese had sat for a little while and congealed to a solid mass. Its very difficult to eat out of a ramekin when its congealed, so I just dumped it on my plate and cut it up. It tasted excellent, but apparently it sat on the shelf waiting for my steak to remain in the oven for an additional 10 minutes. Meals at this restaurant typically come with a fried cheese stick. The owner owns a local burger place called Spankys and they have cheese sticks. But for some reason, in a fine dining restaurant they put a fried cheese stick on the plate??? I typically give it away to some of our friends/family and dont eat it. But tonight, I ate my mashed potatoes, spinach and the cheese stick simply because I was hungry. I told the waiter when he asked if I was still working on my steak, no, it was very tough and overcoked. I did not ask to speak to the manager, nor did I ask for my meal to be comped. I think too many people abuse that situation and go into a restaurant and try to get a free meal. Thats just criminal in my book. Not every meal is going to be perfect. This one certainly was not. Im just disappointed at the Double Nickel. We will definitely go back and Ill stick with the filet. But I officially reprimand the chef and the owner. Your selection of meat and the disregard of cooking instructions on both the sides and steak is lacking.

Very let down after getting to try this premier steakhouse finally. My ribeye came with a description of expect heavy marbling , but on top of coming out medium well after being ordered as medium rare, there was hardly any marbling. Additionally, after it was replaced with a new medium rare steak, it was the least tender steak I ve had in recent years, so expect a sore jaw from the amount of chewing after your steak. After living in Lubbock for just shy of 10 years, I can say Cagle s or Las Brisas are the only premier steakhouses in this city.

Hats are not to be worn inside, especially not at the table...anyone whos ever served in the military or any actual cowboy knows that. Didnt your momma teach you nothing?

I LOVE the food at Double Nickel. I usually always have to have the Lobster Bisque. It s top notch. I only go two or three times a year and I typically go to celebrate my birthday with my best friend. Yesterday was one of those days and the lobster bisque didn t disappoint. Also, shared a shrimp cocktail and that was fairly good. I would have stayed for the main course and ordered more dishes but I was rather taken aback by something that I ve never experienced before. I asked our waitress if the bartender could make me a mock-tail, as my friend and I have been on a sober journey for years. I have never had a restaurant with a full service bar deny or not even give the option of any mocktail. Our waitress went to ask the bartender and she said they couldn t make mocktails. Not even a Shirley Temple was I offered I found this rather strange and honestly it did sour the evening a bit and we went elsewhere. If this is truly the case, I urge you all to reconsider at some point in the future. If I m celebrating an occasion, I d like to have something to drink that looks pretty. Either way, thank you for the amazing food. Hopefully, in the near future, I will dine in with you all again and I will always recommend you all.

I really enjoyed dining at this swanky restaurant. Our server, Anthony, provided a top-notch service for our evening meal. Gave us some great recommendations in selections for our meal. My sister and I decided to have the 22oz steak for two and it came with two sides each. Per the suggestion of Anthony, we both ordered the spinach which had parmesan cheese on top and we also each ordered bake potatoes. She had a pomitini and I had a glass of Moscato, it was good. With all we had ordered, it was a lot and couldnt finish all but it was all so delicious. Enjoyed this place very much!

Best part of the meal was dessert. Was not impressed overall with the food. House salad was just sliced tomato, egg, and romaine lettuce- could be higher end. Salmon was a bit dry, but my husband enjoyed his steak. Overall felt it could be nicer for the hype.

We had a terrible experience last night, it was our 40th anniversary. We ordered 14oz ribeye, waitress brought our food and it looked a little odd and I told my wife there s no way it s 14oz maybe 8-9 oz and no marble. Our steak didn t taste very good and I only ate about 2/3 of it , very disappointed but our waitress brought our bill and they charged us for 8oz fillet. I told waitress we ordered ribeye she said sorry I ll ask manager, she ran my card laid it on table said thank you . They didn t do anything and we ve been coming since they opened and it s expensive but usually very good and worth it but not this time and I ll start going to the roadhouse instead and 1/3 of the price!!!! Poor service and management!!!

Boycott this place please. So I was embarrassingly asked to remove my hat by multiple staff in front of all the customers. Everyone looked. I have a medical condition that for self conscious reasons I wear a hat, I shouldn t have to disclose my medical condition to eat in peace. They lost my friends and families business. Please don t eat at this place.

My girlfriend and I had a wonderful experience overall. We were greeted as soon as we entered, and we notice the place had a low light atmonphere with some Jazz in the background. A perfect start for a birthday dinner celebration. Once we sat on the table we waited a litttle too much for the waiter to come and ask for drinks. He gently filled the cups with water and asked for our drinks. We ordered two drinks; however, one came first and the other one came 5 minutes later. First mistake, please make sure you bring the drinks at the same time, that way none of us has to wait, and we can toast together. We ordered the beef points as appetizers, they were delicious! The sauce was amazing. Then, We decided to share the New York Strip for two au poivre (pepper sauce) - If you like pepper you must try it! I ordered a baked potatoe and asparagus for n my sides, and my girlfriend ordered Loaded baked potatoe and cream corn. The presentatioj of the plates was amazing. The waiter served a plate with the sides first, and then he brought a wooden board with the steak. He cut the steak in pieces and then served to the pieces to the plates. The steak was cook te perfection - medium. However, We both feel the sides were not hot - especially the potatoes. They were hard and not soft and fluffy. They were undercooked, it seems the plates were outside for too long just waiting for the steak to finish cooking. That didnt bother us though, the flovor of the steak could outshine any judgement of the sides. We ordered a couple more drinks, but only one came. Then we ordered the mandarin orange cake for dessert. Before arrival, the waiter kindly removed the crumbs and place new spoons for us. After a.couple minutes, the waiter brought the cake, and it was delicious! Very moist and flavorful - just perfect to switch to a sweet flavor. Now comes the check. Well, even though it was a good experience we feel it was overpriced. When you pay $75 for a Stake its not anymore about how good the steak taste. You are also paying for excellent service with the best sides the kitchen can cook. And we honestly feel there is room for improvement. I will give a chance to this place again. It has been the best service we have had in West Texas.

The food is very overpriced was a bit of a letdown given how much I was looking forward to it. The steak had a weird taste that did not sit well with me which led me and my boyfriend to get sick. I started feeling it in the restaurant where I (embarrassingly) threw up in the dining room. I knew this wasnt a fluke as my boyfriend had a debilitating stomach ache the next day. When we asked for a partial refund, they refused because the liar of a waiter denied seeing it happen. He had to clean the table after all! Secondly, the administration lied that they never saw my embarrassing accident on CCTV. It was most certainly there. It hurts knowing that I used some of my graduation money on a dinner here thinking it would be impressive dining and top-of-the-line service. I wouldnt be writing this review or telling all of my friends to avoid this place like the plague if we were treated well by the management. Go to La Sirena or West Table instead for a kind, upbeat staff, and great food. I have to say my money wouldve been better spent at the Fuddruckers next door.

Get ready for absolutely the most jaw dropping West Texas Steakhouse experience. Cuts of meat from the finest cattle surely sent from the hills of Elysium will shatter your expectations of how a steak should taste. Prepare your tastebuds to transcend the bounds of basic steakhouse fare, for once youve tried their Steak Au Poivre, or a ribeye with peppercorn sauce, youve stepped into a new reality. They limit the menu to what they are capable of creating that will overwhelm your emotions. If you leave without shedding at least one tear of joy, you could have some sort of emotional malfunction.

NO HATS ALLOWED!!! A fine dining establishment that doesnt allow hats yet staples their wine menu together . Also, when you give your number to the hostess they automatically sign you up for some text mailing list without asking!!!!! For our appetizer we ordered Caprese... it was melted cheese (couldnt even tell if it was Mozzarella) under ripe tomatoes and tiny splash of basil drizzle- thats it- no balsamic reduction, no oil, just an under ripe tomatoe some melted mystery cheese and some basil drizzle. Not impressed. Wife had the Lamb I had the NY strip. Proteins were great, sides were meh.... I got kinda mushy snap peas and some mushrooms, wife also got kinda mushy snap peas and mashed potatoes. Matthew our server was amazing and so was Will the manager who came by and said hello. For an upscale fine dining establishment the hostess shouldnt be wearing sneakers if I cant wear a hat inside, try getting holders for your wine menus rather than stapling sheets of paper together. Great staff and good meat, I could do without all the rest however.

We had reservations to celebrate my sons birthday. This was our 1st and LAST time to EVER come here! From the moment we walked in the door the hostesses and other individuals just standing around the hostess stand were not welcoming at all they were actually quite rude in their demeanor. As we were about to walk to our table the girl seating us informed 2 members of out party that they needed to remove their hats? Huh? Yes remove their hats! Now being a southern girl myself I can understand removing your hat at the table during the prayer or when your dinner is served It is VERY OLD SCHOOL but polite. This should have been communicated explicitly on your website! We were accommodating but not pleased. After being seated we ordered our drinks My martini took at least 15 minutes to receive The restaurant was not busy at all. The bartender might want to learn how to make a proper slightly dirty martini as well and without ice all in it! Our waitress had the personality of a mule and might need to take a class on how to be more personable if she is going to continue to work in the service industry! After receiving our dinner my steak was to be M it was almost raw so it had to go back to the kitchen I ordered a side of asparagus I literally got 3 pieces of asparagus The steak was pretty good but not $55 good! After dinner we asked the waitress about a dessert that came out with sparklers for our sons birthday she said she could bring my son some chocolate cake for his birthday. I won t even get into what the cake tasted like but my son didn t eat it. When we received the bill we were also charged $7.95 for a PLATE! I m not kidding she charged my youngest son for a plate so i could split my 12oz filet with him Such a great disappointment to have spent $250 on dinner for 4 people. Thank the Lord we have amazing steakhouses here in Dallas Tx that actually know what fine dining is all about and how to make someone feel special for a special occasion!

We were served at the same time our neighbor tables were served and they were seated after our appetizers came out. Very disappointed. I will likely give them another try but it seems being the only game in town other than the country club has allowed them to get lazy. Sat down at 6:45 and didn t eat until 8:50. Totally unacceptable. Then when the food came it was sub par at best. 4 of us were highly dissatisfied. A few of us got highly marbled steaks which were actually solid chunks of fat and 2 of us didn t have any flavor at all and a little over cooked. They manager made it right and didn t charge us but the slow service left us hungry and late to our next event we had planned. Give it a shot and see what you think but I hadn t been in 10 years for a reason. Pictures of the marbled steak below.
