Anyone who knows me knows I will keep it real. The food was amazing. Although I found out that I am not a ramen fan lol. I loved every other aspect of my meal. I highly recommend coming here and give it a go. Me my new go to (found out from this visit) is the miso soup white rice and fire bomb. For the love of all dont mix it all together lol (another lesson learned) get the miso and add the fire bomb to taste. Then get a spoon of rice and then dip that into the soup so good.

we already go to Ken Chan almost monthly because it is so good (yall have my kid s favorite veg rolls in Lubbock). every dish hits the spot, never had a wait, service is great. but todays service was amazing! I didn t catch our waiters name but we went around 2pm 8/17/24 (hand tattoos, longer hair!) - the best dining experience my kid has ever had. he was super attentive to everything, social, even made a chop stick helper, and got my kid a little treat. we ll continue to regularly go because everything just is good but seriously major appreciation for your staff.

First off, look at my last name, english was not my first language lol so I know good asian food when I have it. Im also not from Lubbock, so its been very hard to find good authentic Asian food. This place is the best place for ramen. I had the spicy miso tonkotso and it was perfect. I didnt need to add anything extra. Service was also very good. The white peach sake was good too.

Hubby and came for a Sunday afternoon lunch date. The place was empty, that was the first red flag. We both ordered bowls of ramen. The portion size for the price was not great, the egg was ice cold and very unappealing, also you didnt have an option for a beef ramen like other places around town. The noodles do not taste fresh either. The broth had good flavor, but that was about it. Drink prices were very high and the music made it not a family friendly place. Needless to say we will not be back and I dont see them being in business very long.

Good and attentive waitress. The restaurant seemed clean but thats about all I can say that was good. First, music was uncensored and f-bombs dropped frequently. I would not bring my kids here. Drinks are $3 a soda for a regular bottle. Unsweet and sweet teas come out of a gold peak bottle. Ramen was undercooked. My wife and I had a cold eggs in each of our ramen. The pork in the ramen was half fat. The broth had some flavor. Portions compared to other restaurants to price was underwhelming. First and last time here.

We had lunch here around 12:45 on 5/18. We were warmly welcomed and immediately seated. The atmosphere and decor were awesome. The staff were kind and took great care of us during our visit. The food was phenomenal. We started off with the gyoza and the shrimp shumai. Both were delicious. Then my wife and I shared a bowl of miso soup. It was larger than expected, and the broth was much more rich and flavorful than any other miso soup we ve ever had. My son ordered the black garlic tonkotsu with extra noodles. His ramen had a deep umami flavor, and the extra noodles filled an entire other bowl! My wife had the curry paitan, which was delightful with a strong curry flavor throughout. I ordered the tan tan men, which was spicy with deep and rich broth full of bold flavors. Overall we enjoyed a wonderful meal and had a good time! We will definitely be back.

I used to live in Japan and would eat Japanese curry 2-3 a week, never have been able to recreate the taste at home. When I found out this place had it on the menu, I headed over as fast as possible. The smell, the signature Japanese curry richness, and the chicken cutlet, it almost brought tears to my eyes! Also they have carry Sapporo and Asahi! Only critique Id add, is I wish we could make the curry spicier and add toppings!

Its not that bad of a place but definitely my least favorite spot to go grab ramen. Went in with high hopes and excited to try this place but was let down almost out of the gate. The place- beautiful, the food- not bad, service- non-existant. Our server was good when we saw her but like after our order was placed she brought us napkins and poof gone. A diffrent server brought us our food but nothing to eat with. Thats fine mistakes happen figured he saw we didnt have anything but some tea and he would be right back. 5min of nothing. Saw our server made eye contact and turned and walked away. Twice. Someone walked in literally walked behind me and my fiance tried getting her attention and she looked the other way, Sat the other people, and actively walked the long way from our table to the back. I finally got up and just got our stuff to eat with myself. Only other time she came back was to bring us our check and change.

Came in to order to-go, sat where ever I wanted. Menus basic nice straight to the point. Figured out my order pretty quick and sat and waited staring at the waiter. While waiting and looking the direction of the waiter there was a kitchen staff just locking eyes with me. It was obvious I was waiting for the waiter nope the guy just continued to stare. After new people came in waiter said after he helps them he will help me. After a while finally came around, I ordered a #1 with eel brisket pork the works. I have been to many ramen places and I have never had to add a sauce or spices to a ramen broth... until now. The noodles smelled... the broth was like buying a carton of bone broth from the grocery store and taking salt and setting it next to the broth so the broth can absorb the air that passes by the salt. I added 3 packs of soy sauce... I will say this the meats were decent the first 2 bites. I have to say the eel was the best maybe because it was drenched in eel sauce. Yeah wasted 30 plus dollars... wont come back.

I know why they put bars across the windows it s to keep people from escaping after first tasting their food. Seriously, my daughter and I both ordered #1 s. She got brisket; I got the pork. Both were horrible. The ramen had a wet, dirty-dog smell. The server asked if we wanted to go containers. We opted to take one home to give to my wife. She tried a bite. Spit it out and said it tasted like old feet meat . The service was bad as well. Our waitress never once asked if the food was good. I think she knew what the answer would be. Hands down the worst ramen I ve ever had.

I ordered the #1 ramen. Heres where it fell short for me. The broth was bland and salty. It didnt have a deep umami flavor for a rich broth. It seems really light colored compared to other ramen locations that Ive been to. The broth is definitely thick but it seems like it was thickened with flour or a powder. It doesnt have the signature grease and fat bubbles from a pork broth stewing for a long time. I can taste the bland salt flavor from a thickener instead of a deep pork flavor that brings out the umami. Flavor doesnt take my taste buds for a ride anywhere like a super good ramen flavor. The char sui is dry. Maybe it seems pre-cooked then reheated too quickly. I chew it and its chalky instead of falling apart like a slow roasted char sui. It doesnt have the signature burn marks either which is a bit disappointing. I like the noodles. Its a firm texture. Not as yellow as Im used to either. The ramen bowl came out super fast which was surprising to me as Im used to a little wait. The gyoza is also a bit bland. Im going to have to take this ramen home and eat it for later. I had high hopes for a spot near my hotel but Ill try this place again next time. It could just be me. However, the service, environment, music, loved it all. The decor is awesome. Very well done and very natural and wood rustic Japanese style so its very lively! Update: Thank you for taking the time for the detailed response! I had worked late and just missed the operating hours. I hope to take you up on discussing how ramen is made. Im passionate for it and would love to try other flavors!

The #1 Ken Chan tonkotsu ramen has a light yet creamy broth and perfectly season pork with soft boiled egg. The atmosphere feels like you stepped into a modern family owned restaurant tucked into the corner streets of Japan. Also, they have the best Asian + western alcohol selection out of any place I ve seen in Lubbock (Thai beer, Japanese sake, IPAs, German selections, etc.), all beautifully refrigerated and displayed along the wall. There was 15 minutes and 34 seconds between serving and one of our partys didnt even get his food until we were all nearly finished. He ended up returning his food to the kitchen as he needed to leave. I had the Shoyu Ramen with added shrimp. The bone broth was a little salty for my taste but savory. My daughter had the Curry Chicken Ramen which was mild but good, and my neice had the Miso Ramen Tonkotsu which was also good. Edit** we have gone back twice since this original review two almost three weeks ago. The food was wonderful and the flavor lived up to expectations. However, we had friends we finally convinced to try Ken Chan and they said they would not be back because of the same server problem we had. John is quite literally going to run away customers. His jokes when he gets your food wrong are not funny and maybe he shouldn t try to memorize your order and should write it down if he can t get it right. He s been the problem 4/5 times. My friend is 9mo pregnant and couldn t even get a refill of water from him and when she asked another server he gave her a dirty look. Unacceptable. The girl we had was wonderful and checked up on us and made sure we had everything we needed! I didn t catch her name but she was newer and very nice. It s like it goes 2 steps forward and 3 steps back with this place. We just order our food to go and no longer get appetizers or drinks or anything. I added pictures of when we last went with the girl server before we switched to just carry out now. Food is great again but John s gotta go. ** The servers are not very attentive and lately have gotten my order wrong the last 2x I ve gone. The broth seems inconsistent and is really good some days and okay on others. My husband loves this place but to regularly go at least once a week and experience this multiple times is bad. We are going to try other ramen places in Lubbock.

Walked in this evening with a party of 8. Friday nights in Lubbock, all the good spots are full, so was Ken Chan Ramen. The staff was attentive and efficient. Our food came out in a reasonable time and the overall experience was excellent. Honestly, I could eat appetizers and be satisfied but there really is nothing bad on their menu. Well done.

Horrible tasting ramen, avoid at all costs. also, when I sent the ramen back, they kept it on the check. Boyfriend states that the ramen was way too salty. For me, the flavor was very off, and the texture of the ramen was SLIMY. Server didn t know anything about the wines, and as a result, initially let us into believing that one of the one of the better wines were a part of the promotion (first glass off.) Come to find out the only ones that are a part of the promotion are these terrible wines from Texas, DO NOT TRY. They are disgusting. Ambience was nice though.

The food haunts me in my dreams. Ive only been there once so far, but its all I want and think about. we got the char siu tonkatsu and smoked salmon, and we shared bites. Let me tell you, just thinking about it makes my mouth water! the ajitama was perfectly boiled and marinated, the 48hr broth I couldnt get enough of, the noodles, so slick and easy to fill my mouth full, the rice!! i had no idea it could taste better than everything Ive ever eaten, and it was my first time having smoked salmon, so obviously, I may be biased by saying no one could do better. Id pray here. Join my religion of eating and praising tasty food.

The food, while delicious, was very simple. I got the number one, the basic traditional chashu ramen, and was surprised that there were only a couple of toppings. Compared to other ramen places with similar prices, I felt like I was getting an oversimplified version of ramen that was a bit one-note. I heard the staff explain to another customer that they were aiming to offer traditional flavors while adjusting for the local pallet, and that makes a lot of sense to me. Many toppings often found on ramen can be polarizing if youre not used to them. I understand their angle. Dont get me wrong, it was yummy! It was just missing the bells and whistles I was expecting when I usually order a $12+ bowl of ramen. One negative about the service. My partner and I ordered and my ramen came out almost instantly, but our egg rolls appetizer and his rice dish did not come out for another ten minutes. My ramen sat there the whole time while we waited for the rest of the food to arrive. This was frustrating as my ramen noodles were softening by the second and I wasnt going to start eating until he had his food too. The place was also empty aside from two other tables so this fumble from the kitchen was even more apparent. Ill probably go again on my own, since Im interested in the rest of the menu and I know what to expect.

The place was really nice, love how they had the Japanese theme. Everything was clean I guess because its a new place. The menu is really good they have a lot to pick from. They have some Japanese tacos they are good, but maybe with some chilioil. The Ramen mmmm not so good a 2 out of 5, the noodles seem packed, I guess because Im used to fresh noodles like in the noodle bar in abilene tx, you can even see how they make them. The noodles didnt taste fresh more like packed not good, and the sauce the offered was like a can sriracha sauce, would have paired better with chili oil again. The service very good, even tho the girl was alone but she did very well for a single waitress. The restaurant very clean and beautiful inside. It throws you of because it says Ramen from Japan.

The atmosphere was great, and there s a very nice inexpensive beer selection. The buns were also really good, but our waiter seemed a little clueless and the main courses left much to be desired. My dipping ramen noodles and broth (which was oily and ultra-heavy on the pork smell) were served at room temperature. Worst of all, the vegetarian pho that we ordered was made with canned corn and bok choy instead of fresh ingredients. Not worth the price, in my opinion.

Amazing ramen and pork bone broth! We visited with a Japanese student and we all thoroughly enjoyed the food. The ramen was similar to what we had during our trip to Japan. Prices and portions are very reasonable, our entire group of nine ate for around $130, which included appetizers. We had a mix of dishes, all of which were great: a vegetable and a curry ramen; chicken, beef, and pork tonkotsu; chicken and beef fried rice, and a ribeye bowl. I dont know if they would let me order just a straight bowl of hot broth but next time I go, Ill ask because the broth was that good! Im surprised to see other reviews about poor service because our interactions with the owner/manager was the highlight of our visit. I couldnt even count how many times he came by our table, made sure we had anything we could think of, and ensured our custom order requests came out exactly how we wanted. As if that werent enough already, he told us about the alcohol collection they have and the unique history of the distillers. He took the time to tell us about his trip how he pulled everything together for the store. The only negative I can think of is that it did take a while for some of the food to come but I think it was a reasonable wait for lunch hour. Also considering the quality of what we got, I wont complain a bit. We couldnt have been happier with the place and really enjoyed the food, the people, and the atmosphere.

We were seated quickly and made accommodations to put two tables together for a group of four. Wait, staff was super nice and gave her recommendations. They have a wide selection of drinks, domestic, and imported beverages. Cost is per drink (bottle), and no refills, so the cost can add up if you are not drinking water. The rice bowls and Ramen are aesthetically please long as well as the taste .

Just wish the broth wasnt so darn salty. Also, the char sui pork is very strange. Looks like braised pork instead of char sui pork, hard to tell if its pork belly. Tastes good but also, really salty.

Gyoza - Very good on par with almost any other restaurant. Brisket Buns - 5* highly recommend. Rammen - Had the #1 w/ Brisket. Had about 3 slices of meat half of each was all fat. Not just a little fat but easily 1x 2 hunks. Fat was tasteless. Meat itself was tender and tasted great. Noodles were crunchy? Like rice noodles on lettuce wraps. Not good texture for what would be expected as fresh noodles at a rammen restaurant. Broth was like water and I couldnt place the flavor but it was not traditional Tonkatsu. Ajitama were lacking in flavor. Broth was luke warm when I expect it to be piping hot. I dont want a refund or a meal on the house. Simply as a warning to others If you liked Rammen Shack its unlikely to hit the mark. I would recommend going to funnoodle.
