*** Update: 9/25/2024 - (1 STAR Review): So I went into Academy on 9/20/2024. I went to purchase some ammo. So, when I went to checkout -the cashier (Carla) started swiping my items I says I can get you $30 off your purchase. I say Oh, really you guys offering a discount on ammo?? She says yep, let me get your license real quick. For a sec I was thinking that I needed to show my ID or something for the ammo purchase since I had bought quite a bit. But then I notice the computer asking for the last 4 of my SS#. The cashier (Carla) says dont worry about the email part I skipped it for you. Which I now feel like she did that so I wouldnt get an email saying that I was just approved for a new Credit Card. I immediately told the cashier (Carla) whoa stop the transaction, I dont want to apply for a CC. I say to the cashier wow, youre slick! You had me thinking I was being offered a discount on my purchase, you didnt tell me it was for a CC. I say all this to say, watch out for cashiers like Carla; theyll have you signing up for shxt you didnt ask for lol. (5 STAR Review) - I just want to give a shout out to an employee by the name of Bryanna. She was extremely helpful; even though she had a cast on her leg, she still went out of her way to help me find a shoe for my son. She also helped me out with a few other things I needed assistance with. Academy should be grateful to have such an extraordinary employee working for their company!

I like to shop in Academy, but I still see with surprise the rudeness and lack of customer services of some associates on 9/7/24. I asked for help and Mr. John at the guns section denied me help. He not just denied help but told another associate not to help me. I guess this is the new way to make business. This is the type of people that destroy any business, and the owner of the place dont know why they are losing customers

I recently went to this location to purchase a firearm for my daughter because it was her birthday. My daughter and I went to the counter and the gentleman at the counter was very helpful and we did not hide the fact that I would be purchasing this firearm for my daughter. My daughter filled out the appropriate paper work and then the sales men said he had to have a manager check his paperwork. The manager, Cole, came over and checked all the paperwork and asked who the firearm was for and my daughter said it was for her. When I went to pay Cole said I have bad news. I have to decline this sale because it is a straw purchase he then smugly put my credit card on the counter and slid it back over to me. The sales man said she is purchasing this for her daughters birthday and Cole belittled his sales person by saying you know the law (with the salemans name) I then looked up the definition of a straw purchase and Cole had accused me of a felony!! My daughter and I went back to him and gave him the definition of a straw purchase and told him I did not appreciate him accusing me of a felony when I was, in fact, not doing a straw purchase. He then back tracked and stated it was Academys policy, after going over to the end of the counter and calling his risk management, and when I asked to see the policy he stated he did not have to show it to me. I did not receive an apology for his smudge attitude and accusing me of a felony or even an acknowledgement that he was wrong. This store needs to better educate their employees, especially their management. They also need to post their policy before wasting peoples time. Needless to say we will be purchasing from somewhere else and will not be going back to Academy there are plenty of other stores with better customer service. If I could give zero stars I would.

My mom and I went to this location so I could purchase a firearm. She offered to pay as it was for my birthday. The salesman we spoke with at the counter was very helpful in choosing the right one for the purpose I needed it for. We chose a firearm, did the background check, picked a safe, some ammo, and were ready to check out while the manager (Cole) verified all my information. My mom handed him her card to pay, and he very rudely slid it back to her and told us he had to deny the sale quoting the straw purchase law because the background check was for me, and my mom was paying. The salesman tried to tell him that it was fine for her to pay for it since I was not legally prohibited from owning a firearm, and the manager snapped back at this poor salesman unnecessarily that he should know the rules. Turns out, it was Cole that didnt know the rules. He sent us away with no explanation, and no purchase. We went back in after we looked up what a straw purchase was and tried to explain to him that I was not, in fact, prohibited from legally owning a firearm. After Cole called their auditor, we found out it was just an Academy policy. Which is fine, but we would have liked to know that from the beginning and before Cole basically accused my mother of committing a felony. We cant purchase a firearm from Academy for 30 days now, which is fine because well be getting one and all the accessories elsewhere.

I tired to purchase a firearm. The person behind the booth asked if I was a US citizen twice and asked me three times if I had a TX drivers license. They also accused me of having a DL from OK, unclear why that statement was made but I was physically walking away at that point. They stated the background check conducted will go directly to the FBI but in reality it goes to NICS database, run by a separate group. They also asked me are you at least 21 years of age? Bro, I am literally 37 years old. Instead of selling me a gun they instead told me to go to a shooting range. They pointed at the entrance door and gave me directions to a local shooting range. They said I need to go on Tuesdays because it is discount day. Anyways, I am a legal citizen with a clean record. I got the gun at another location. Interestingly, a customer overheard the exchange between us and gave me some advice on purchasing a fire arm. They said they do training classes for gun safety. If you dont look like the person at the booth, you might run into some passive aggressive behaviors. Fair warning to anyone who does not match the physical description of the worker. To be fair, it is the South and this is not an uncommon practice here.

There is a lot of clothes here however from what I saw it is primarily for men. I was looking for a pair of shorts made mostly out of cotton primarily. The ones made out of recycled plastic bottles feel like recycled plastic water bottles and who knows how our skin responds to plastic material. There should be more of a choice not just a bunch of polyester colors available.

1st. Time going there, with my mother to pick up a camping air mattress that we saw that they had on sale cheaper than Walmart, so when we got there, they were very clean, respectful, and courteous. We found what we were looking for with help from an employee plus seen some BBQ grills, etc, that we plan on going back for. Prices are reasonably low for the purchase.

What kind of Manager throws your drivers license in your face? Just because the cashier took my payment wrong, twice, the balance of my purchase was $237.47, I wanted to pay $200 on my academy card and the rest on my debit card, she first charged $200 to my debit card, then $190 to the academy card and $47.77 to the debit card, the total balance was $237.47. I only demanded that the $200 from the debit card be returned to me, neither she nor him nor any other 2 people understood something so simple with different card numbers, after treating me horribly he threatened to call the police, he returned my debit card, I left the store without the things I wanted to buy and without the chargeback for the academy card I wonder if this is normal and their attitude is correct? It was a terrible service, they treated me very badly, they did not solve the problem and they made me miss my appointment for 1 hour trying to solve something so obvious.

Hunter and Stephen were great! I purchased a utility cart online, and Hunter offered to build it for me when I asked if I could just throw the box away talk about one level above service! Misleading prices on items on display: went there with my daughter today to get her get the 44 spandling Basketball hoop and it showed that they were on labor day sale for $149 and just when we were ready to to get it,one of the guys that works there said that was not the same price as the price displayed.I asked to speak to the store manager and was directed to this guy who showed no remorse and said the store does not do the display ,he agreed the 44 on display was a wrong . This is wrong and Misleading.. My daughter left very disappointed and I was disappointed at the store for displaying the wrong item and not being willing to take care of our concern.
