Have hiked here many many times, always enjoy it, and if you connect several of the trails together, you can get a decent length hike out of it. I always look forward to going back as its close, and familiar to me now. Maybe Ill see you out there someday!

There is a lady who lives in an RV at the entrance and runs the gate to LLELA. She polices those trying to launch canoes and kayaks from the LLELA on the Elm Fork of the Trinity River. A couple years back she told me that the water was too low for my canoe and wouldn t allow me to check the river myself. Today she turned away two of my friends who are advanced kayakers because the water was too high. Today s water level is a full 3 feet below flood stage and two feet below action stage. If you plan on launching a boat from LLELA, don t try, this woman knows nothing about the river and is on an extreme power trip. I ve emailed my concerns to LLELA leadership and they did nothing but ask me more questions about myself. LLELA is not a friend of the Trinity River canoe/kayak community.

This is a wonderful jewel! There are a number of nice trails to hike. I did 4 of them; all very easy trails. They could use more signage; some were missing or hard to find. The signs there were educational. There are plenty of birds to spot. I swear the turkey buzzards are just showing off. They catch the draft from the dam. The cost is just 5$ for a car. It s definitely a bargain!

PROs: Great place for wildlife photography. Designated parking at each trail entrance. Same day re-entry. Great place to visit to beat the heat. CONs: Cash not accepted only cards. Trails intersect/branch off without signs nor markers. Trash cans were overfilled at the fishing area. New to the area. During one of our trails it had branched off connecting us to another trail believing it would connect us to our parking. We realized that was not the case and retraced our steps.

We saw a white-eyed vireo and a few gorgeous Western Kingbirds. Brought binoculars so we could see them up close. Used Merlin app to record their songs to help figure out what they were. The paddle boarding launch site was looking a bit nasty and stagnant. Looks like they need to dredge the area and get some oxygen into that water or something. This is right beside the huge Lewisville landfill.

A fantastic hidden gem so close to dallas. This nature preserve is unique and there are trails unlike anywhere else. Our favorite was the Bitten Marsh trail. The highlight was the boardwalk that cuts through the marshy terrain. While there we forgot that we are so close to city amidst the rich flora and fauna. We also really liked the observation points and the dam overlook. Parking is abundant and the trail is clearly marked.

The cabins that I found are really surprising for me when I look at their construction, which has the most iconic features of that family. I know this beautiful place, I have the videos very soon I will put them up for you to enjoy just as I enjoyed it. If you want to know this place I recommend it, and if you want to enjoy the simple video look for me just like how my name appears in my profile there were the videos.

You go along the Dam Road and stop at whichever location you want. They also have a campsite available on property. There is an 1800s pioneer homestead, as well. The $5 entry is so worth what you will get out of this location. It was the most peace I had had in so long. Very much recommend going if you can.

The trails are as expected... outdoor trails. But for the price of $5 to enter I expected some more upkeep of the area AND why pay $$ for basic hiking when you can go to other nature preserves for free whilst bringing your pet? Arbor Hills or etc is much better in my opinion. I also dont understand why we would be able to fish but I cant bring my leashed dog. Also to add, someone could accidentally leave a hook underwater or on dry land thus killing an animal or possibly injuring a hiker.

nice very natural hike trails. bring decent hiking gear. some trails need more markers to avoid errant extra side hikes. but some nice detours. plenty of wildlife footprints to identify and track. get map at gate to help guide you.

Wonderful trails and really enjoyed walking around the cabin. Water levels were to low to see the kayak trail but not parks fault. $5 per car plan to hit it again this weekend. Website mentions classes for kids, scouts and homeschool groups but didnt personally check into it. Was there for about 2 hrs and spoke with 3 other hikers so not too busy. Hope to see you there.

$5 entry but worth it.. Beautiful scenery, easy trail. Kayak trail was nearly dried at the launch I was at. Not parks fault, blaming the weather. Added just for info. And the cabin was really cool to see.

I just wish they would stay open later .and sometimes it lets out a really bad smell but if you can get past that its the best place for everything you love to do at a river

So telling people they need whitewater experience when letting out 800cfs is quite rediculous. Had my wife scared, was like the lay river, not even remotely dangerous. Otherwise pretty good time.

I hiked the bitter marsh trail, and it was beautiful.Part of the trail was closed due to flood. Please check the trail status before heading there. Also, I found a tick on my shirt. Bring bug spray. I will come back to explore the other trails when the temperature gets cooler.
