A friend had recommended Olobe s Kitchen, saying the food was good, so my friend and I decided to drive 50 minutes just to try it out. Unfortunately, the experience didn t meet our expectations. The Amala we ordered wasn t great, it seemed like the stew we were served was burnt which really affected the overall taste. On a positive note, the service was nice, and for the effort, I d give them a 4. However, they definitely need to improve the cooking. I hope they can work on this because I was really looking forward to a great meal.

I was really excited about their arrival to our area, but now not so much. I ve eaten here a few times and I m just not impressed. The first time I ordered they were freshly opening, I m pretty sure I was given mashed potatoes instead of Fufu. Maybe they didn t think I d know the difference. This last visit I ordered through Uber Eats, and while the food was hot, none of it was fresh not even the white rice. You can taste that the chicken is old but I didn t mind because I know how it was done at the places I ve visited in Nigeria. And besides, it was still kind of tender. But the fish I paid over $20 for what should ve been a fresh grilled piece of tilapia. The fish was really small and was made the day (or 2) before. It was dry and really hard and certain places. This place could be alot more successful if they stopped taking shortcuts and PROPERLY prepare peoples food. Just let customers know that it s going to be a bit of a wait because you have to make the food fresh. It s a sit in restaurant so we re not expecting fast food anyway. I d rather sit and wait for quality food then to be given something that was prepared in a rush. Hopefully this helps.

First time eating African food. The jollof rice and chicken was absolutely delicious. Cant wait to get more I could have eaten a whole pan of that rice! Meat pie (beef) was also really good. The restaurant is nice and clean inside, staff is super friendly. Nice to have some different offerings in the area, I was getting burnt out on burgers and tacos! Looking forward to coming back and exploring more of the menu.

Service with a smile makes food taste better . I felt like I was I interrupting the server/owner from the moment she walked out the back of the establishment. She wasn t totally rude but was certainly not welcoming. Maybe I should have gone when it was a busy time, maybe she would have been more energized? And please do t ask too many questions about how the plates are served I ll come back to update once I have tried a few other West African places I ve been recommended to try.

I dont usually like to leave reviews but this time it is warranted. My friend and I made a conscious decision to patronize your restaurant. We did not feel welcomed and the things that my friend mentioned are accurate. There was an air of hostility from the moment we arrived, but we looked past it. You were out of a lot of items that were on the menu. When my friend received her food she immediately stated to me that the chicken tasted old after one bite. She asked the younger waitress how old the chicken was and the waitress stated that it was not fresh and had been cooked 1-2 days ago. You, the owner, chastised my friend immediately for daring to not like the 1-2 day old chicken and told her that no one has ever complained in 2 years. The entire exchange was very disheartening and unprofessional. I remained polite throughout our visit, but I was shocked at it all especially the response to my friend informing you about her meal. I spent $30 on my meal and was not pleased with it as well, but you live and learn and i wasnt planning to write a review about it. However it is not cool at all that you, the owner, are taking all of this so personally and bringing race into it when that is completely unnecessary to do such. We were just normal people that were out shopping, wanted a meal and decided to try your restaurant because my friend wanted African food. We did not have the best experience and that is okay. People of all races go to restaurants everyday and may not be happy with the food and may write a review, but its not a personal assault on you like you are doing to us. Your attitude towards us yesterday and the response to her review were rude and unprofessional from a business owner. If you dont stereotype your customers maybe you will be able to treat and serve them better which can make for them being repeat customers even if they do have a complaint. Unless of course if you dont want certain customers patronizing your business then carry as usual.

The way that the owner is going back and forth with the customer reviews is so sad. As an owner, you take the good with the bad and you do better. If you get negative feedback, stop taking it personal and apologize for their experience, make corrections and move on. Consistent customer service and food quality will always win but sometimes people have bad experiences and thats ok. Thank them for coming and move on.

This was my first and last time at this restaurant. I was in the area and decided to give it a try. Never again. Horrible experience, more so with the staff, I never got her name. First of all, no one was in the restaurant during our entire time there, not even pick up orders. That should have been my initial sign. Then, various things I requested, I was told they were out of (so why is it on the menu, why offer it?). What I decided to order was not fresh at all. I was told it would take a certain length of time, took way longer. Then I was told the food was fresh, and I could clearly tell it was not. The chicken tasted old. When asked how freshly cooked it was, they told me it was cooked yesterday or the day before. And it was coated with lots of tomato paste/sauce. When expressing my feedback and dislike to her, she became argumentative and was not trying to listen to what I had to say. And she definitely wasnt trying to make it better. Poor customer service for sure. And for her to make the comment, weve been open for 2 years and no one had ever complained about our food, threw me way off, because it doesnt matter how long youve been open, nor does it matter how the other customers felt or thought at this point...Thats them. This is what Im expressing to you as your current and only customer at that particular time. No intention of understanding nor goal of providing good customer service. Also, they charged for items that my friend was told would be included when previously discussed prior to ordering her meal. And to top it off, the rudeness she displayed was beyond welcoming. I handed her the money in her hand, she hands me the change back on the table. She did not even have the decency to thank us as customers when leaving, for the couple of items we did order. I have no desire to return back to this place, at all.

Stopped into Olobes Kitchen after a long time of talking about wanting to try it but never making the time. I had been missing out! I ordered the Jollof rice with beef, my husband ordered Amala, and we split an order of Suya. The food was obviously made with love and care. The owner of Olobes was very hands on during our meal and even showed my husband the right way to eat Amala. She was genuinely so pleased when my husband ate the entire meal! My Jollof was so good and the portions were so generous that I was able to have more than enough left to have for dinner. The beef was tender and complimented the Jollof perfectly. We will definitely be back and I think Ill have the courage to ask the owner to recommend me a dish so I can continue to explore the beautiful and unique flavors of African cuisine.

First and last time to order here and was disappointed to say the least. They refused to sell one item listed as a side dish unless you bought a tiny bowl of very expensive soup. Did not have one item ordered so substituted a completely different item that I would have never ordered and it was burned, inedible and had to go in the trash. Fried plantains are a very tiny 4 slices, not at all what is on the menu. The meat pie is mostly dough, not much filling for the size it is. We will not be going back.

My taste buds went on an adventure at Olobes in Lavon, TX, where I experienced the restaurant s home-cooked Nigerian food! The Okra soup was a symphony of flavors. It was like a warm hug from the inside, spicy and rich, making my spirit kick back and relax. The Fufu was the perfect sidekick, complementing the soups like Bonnie to Claude. The Puff Puff, oh the Puff Puff! Its made of mashed beans, but I swear it tasted like shrimp. So delicious, I could snack on them all week. The Egusi soup was another showstopper. The spices, the freshness, the richness - Yesss! It had us wiggling our toes.. The owner and cook, a personable host who made us feel right at home. In a world where healthy restaurants are as rare as a unicorn, Olobes is a hidden gem. I appreciated the freshness, healthy and flavorful dishes that were served in a very clean and welcoming environment. Cant wait for my next visit!

Please dont let the picture below alarm you... I ordered peppered tilapia. Was I shocked to see a whole fish looking at me (yep... But Im open to new experiences). It immediately made sense why the peppered tilapia soup was over 20 dollars... Its a whole fish. Let me tell you, best fish I have ever had. Perfectly cooked, so much flavor, and spice (if you dont like spicy be aware, but I am a fan). I love all types of ethnic food, and I am so happy to have such a wonderful family owned African restaurant right down the road. I also had way too much fun creeping my kids out with the fish head. Go experience something new. If you do a to go order be advised they wont make your food ahead of time for pick up without payment (understandably so given how fresh the food is, and the cost of goods). Yes you will have to wait for fresh food. Wait 10 minutes more, skip whataburger. Vegetarian options: Vegetarian options available. Kid-friendliness: Child options available
