My 1-star rating is for the summer camp. My granddaughter was excited to enroll in the Candid City: Street Photography session. Based on the information she shared I strongly recommend you have more than one instructor to assist with minors walking in an unfamiliar neighborhood. She was instructed to roam the neighborhood and to meet back at a designated place. When she returned no one was there. After waiting for a while, she walked five blocks and ran into another student who said she was lost. Finally, they located the instructor who was unaware they were missing. The instructor said , We are waiting for one more student. My granddaughter had to tell her two students were missing. The instructor did not have an accurate count of the students. This is a safety issue. Students walking alone unsupervised. This is a safety issue. The students did not have the phone number of the instructor in case they were lost. This is a safety issue. The students did not have name tags and were addressed as hey you. This is an impersonal issue. The next day when she arrived, she was informed the group was at Discover Green. When her parents inquired as to why they were not told in advance? They were told an email was sent to my granddaughter. This is a communication issue. The parents should have been notified in advance. I recommend you provide an agenda for the week with daily details and locations. Please put safety first, be personable and communicate effectively. Parents are entrusting you with their children while in your care.

Pretty sure the info email is ran by an AI and not a real person. The responses arent helpful nor do they actually address questions in your email.

Took the basic photography course as a refresher. Great knowledge, instructor was awesome . Downside, instructor should make it a group class to learn from others .

It was okay. I just wasn t interested in the photos, I wanted to see the photos @Antonio Helm saw, not mold and rust in a camera.. of course, they were beautiful pictures, I just wanted to see pictures with a backstory, history, to ascertain..

This is an outstanding place to visit. The gallery and library are impressive. However, for someone relatively new to a DSLR camera and photography this is the place to learn how it all comes together. I took the entry level camera class with Christy. I learned more in the first two hours with the hands on training, education and explanations than I did in the last few years of reading the manuals and watching videos. I am retired and travel extensively. I have to admit that I bought into the hobby of photography. I own some expensive cameras and lenses. For the last couple of years Ive used them on Auto mode as a point and shoot. In her class, Christy showed how to use all of the features of the camera and how to compose and frame the shot. I wish I had taken this course two or three years ago. It is well worth the cost of tuition. I cant wait to take another class.

Seems like a nice place but I paid for a gift card that was never emailed to me. Went back and the guy at the front desk said he would fix it but I still did not receive an email. Im now out $100 with no Christmas gift. Would not recommend.

We registered our photography loving daughter for the week long camp. They had approximately 15 kids or so with 1 instructor. The curriculum was uninspired. The kids were also crammed in a probably 15x8 foot room from 9-3 with very little outside time. Two days in not a picture was taken. One quick outing to try a camera they made out of a tin and we had enough. When the instructor was asked about the cramped conditions and lack of photography she responded, its out of my control . Very unhappy with what could have been a great opportunity for the kids and the studio. Seemed like an uninspired attempt at child care. At this age and price we expect more.

I was super excited to visit the Houston Center For Photography and it was on my list of galleries to visit. After leaving a near by museum my boyfriend asked me if I wanted to stop by so we did. As soon as we walked in I said Hello to the two guys sitting at the desk... neither of them said a word. Didn t greet us at all... didn t tell us anything about the gallery... NOTHING. One of the guys looked up and went back to doing whatever he was doing. I started to proceed further into the gallery to start viewing then I turned to my boyfriend and told him that I would rather leave because that was completely rude... so we left. As an artist and someone that visits galleries and museums quite often I was very turned off by that... I ve never been to a gallery and was completely ignored before now. VERY RUDE...

I really enjoyed coming to this place. Its absolutely free and showcases great work. In the back, they display work done by students. I went recently when their Ryan Bush work was up. Its cool because you can throw on some 3-D glasses and stand there for a while. Each time you look at the artwork you see something different. Its a real hidden gem in Houston. A great place for photography buffs and art lovers in general.

I can not speak highly enough about this place. They are passionate about what they do. Bevin, Juliana, Caroline, and Alex are lovely people and make me happy. The exhibits are always beautifully hung and it is FREE! The staff is amazing! Classes are affordable and well taught! The printing lab is wonderful! They offer a really cool Certificate of Completion, that will take you through the basics to the more advanced aspects of photography! Their building is pretty and they are right around the corner from the Menil Collection! Whats not to love?

HCP is a valuable resource for Fine Art Photography and photography education. Houston is fortunate to have such an institution devoted to the advancement of photography. The digital lab is fantastic and the library well stacked. Their exhibitions are thought provoking, too. HCP is a gem of the South.
