McClain Gallery

About the Company

rating: 4.6

Since 1980, Robert and Cynthia Cage McClain have focused on the exhibition and the acquisition of museum quality modern and contemporary art. McClain Gallery’s program represents important twentieth-century figures while continuing to commit to younger generations of artists, which includes the primary representation of many Texas-based artists. The gallery has mounted monographic exhibitions, as well as published scholarly catalogs for Peter Halley, Donald Baechler, Andy Warhol, Robert Motherwell, Rosa Loy, The Bruce High Quality Foundation, Julian Schnabel, Bo Joseph, and Pablo Picasso. Our exhibition program is augmented by surveys and group shows that investigate current themes in contemporary art within historic contexts.

A typically pretentious collection of utterly mindless garbage marketed as modern art. The only interesting thing is how much time was spent crafting the idiotic titles vs the actual work. If you like staring at a few smudges or streaks on a canvas, with a pretentious title like, The Juxtaposition of Linear Spatial Conflict # 147, then this is the place for you. Anyone interested in truly fine art, move along, please, nothing to see here. . .

McClain Gallery is a beautiful gallery located in the Upper Kirby District. The staff is very welcoming, knowledgable and passionate about art. Their love of art is evident in educating individuals, new and established collectors and corporations in acquiring art and the artists represented and curated in their quality exhibitions. The gallery represents a diverse selection of artist from Texas, New York, and Europe in a wide spectrum of mediums. The gallery has maintained a museum quality of contemporary and 20th century art that can bewilder, intrigue, and create dialogue.
