Monument Cafe

About the Company

rating: 4.5

The Monument Café is a locally owned and operated restaurant designed to be reminiscent of the Texas roadside cafes of the 1920's to the 1940's. We serve only fresh meats, vegetables and desserts. Everything we serve is cooked and prepared in the restaurant by our employees. We buy as many of our vegetables as possible from local farmers as well as raise several vegetables and herbs in our own garden. Our meats are free of hormones, antibiotics, steroids, and animal byproducts. We serve local milk as well as local free-range yard eggs. We want you to have a great meal, friendly and professional service, and to leave the restaurant feeling that you received value for your money and wanting to return.

Monument Cafe is where comfort food dreams come true, especially if youre craving some Southern classics. The chicken and biscuits? Pure bliss flaky, buttery, and topped with the perfect fried chicken that makes you wonder how they do it. And don t get me started on the chicken fried steak it s like they took all the best things about Texas and put them on a plate! Now, a word of advice: if you re planning to brunch on a Sunday, be prepared for a bit of a wait. But trust me, those fluffy biscuits are worth every minute. Just come hungry, bring some patience, and get ready to leave in a serious food coma!

Little loud, but it was busy, so its to be expected. I had the Biscuits with gravy and sausage. Biscuits were fluffy and delicious, especially with the strawberry preserves. My husband had the Eggs Benedict... the eggs werent the best prepared, and his home potatoes were dry and bland... my brother in laws poached eggs werent made well either... they were closer to soft boiled. The cook who does the poached eggs may want to practice some more. Other than that, lovely place. Good atmosphere, and would love to be back to try the pie someday. Kid-friendliness: My son has autism and the noise bothered him a little, but the staff and customers were very friendly.

Monument Cafe was really delicious. I had the fried chicken salad and it was huge. The chicken was lightly battered and the ranch dressing was incredible. (Definitely homemade, with a slight dill flavor.) My friend had eggs Benedict, and he said it was really good. I would recommend ordering the sausage gravy over the cream gravy. The cream gravy is nothing special. We both agreed the coconut cream pie is a culinary masterpiece experience, and definitely something you should save a little room for.

I really appreciate the explanation of the meal options and his recommendations. Food was PERFECT. We have so few opportunities to go out these days but this meal was the perfect capstone to our day. We ll be back on a Sunday very soon to try the roasted chicken and cornbread dressing!

Insanely overpriced. No kids menu. $9 for a piece of bacon, 1 egg and toast? That s insane. My wife doesn t eat eggs so they brought the chicken and biscuit with no eggs and charged us full price and would not sub for something else. Service and food quality do not meet the price point. Will not be back to this restaurant until the prices are reasonable and service improves.

One of the only true diner feels in Texas! The food is locally grown and you can watch them cook it from their open Kitchen. I have been here quite a few times and my drive in is about 45 mins. We have not been disappointed with the service or the food. Even when they are busy it does not take long to get seated and to get hot fresh food.

It s a very nice representation of what a nice diner should look and feel like. We ve visited a handful of times and enjoyed most of the food, all of the beverages and the service has been excellent for the type of restaurant. It s clear that they make most/everything in house and to order, but when it s busy their temps and presentation suffer a bit.

I regret I don t remember her name, but she was the absolute best!! The food was hot, fresh and delicious. I had the sausage gravy on the CFS and it was yummy. The onion rings are the best. The Monument Chocolate Pie will leave you wanting slice after slice. It s super clean, the staff are great and the food is the best! Go, go and go and while you are there, get their signature chocolate pie. I don t want to spoil it, but the crust is made from pecans. It s amazing!!!!

8/2024. Update. There are a WHOLE LOT of paid and fake positive reviews these days. I dont envy the restaurant business. Food costs are ridicously high. Nobody wants to wait tables. Its rough. When Dennys are going out of business, thats when its bad. Monument for so long has been a Sun City, plain Jane, boring diner Dennys in a 1940s style diner. #respect. Problem is, Georgetown is tired of boring menus. Monument is trying. Chicken and waffles is a great first step. Its no secret that Monument and Gold Burger are competing for who has the biggest BADDEST COME AND TAKE IT breakfast. Reputations are at stake. Profit is no obstacle. Game on! Update: grandmother wanted waffles so our family gave Monument another try. Epic fail. The waitstaff try very hard, but the food continues to fail. Grandmother took 2 bites of the waffles and wished she had frozen ones instead. Terrible. The Eggs Benedict came out cold, the muffins were stale and chewy. We were told in the future just stick with plain eggs and bacon. So sad this place continues to struggle and food quality suffer. ********************** We heard this place was good so we gave it a try. Very disappointed. Yes, the service was great, the atmosphere was nice, and yes, there are some good food items sprinkled on the menu. BUT- the home fries are awful! They require that you have them. The menu says no substitutions. This ruined the experience for all 5 of us native Texans. We all agreed, we could have done just as well at Dennys or Waffle House. Monument Cafe seems to only be about the 1920s vibe or if you really want a Buckwheat pancake. Tip: if you do go, insist on ANYTHING but those nasty home fries, aka bland potato chunks.

Just moved here from Oregon and needed to find my new spot. I think this place is it! Megan is a fantastic server who is highly attentive. She provided great suggestions and was very efficient. The host/busser, Hank, his name matches his fantastic southern hospitality. He was on top of it, very personable, and made me feel right at home with his deep voice and southern twang. I had the corned beef hash. The caramelized onions and sweet potatoes were the perfect addition to liven up the dish. The homemade biscuits were warm, soft inside with a nice crunch on the outside. Definitely will be coming back. Parking: There s limited spots in the restaurant parking lot. There is a free parking lot next door. There is handicap parking in their lot. Kid-friendliness: Kids are welcome. I didn t see any kids menus, but can easily order for them. They do have booster seats and high chairs. The high chairs cannot be sat at a booth. Wheelchair accessibility: The restaurant can accommodate wheelchairs. However, there are not automatic doors and you need to enter/exit through two heavy doors, so you will want to get assistance.

I love home fries, but cold home fries are unacceptable. The egg in my sandwich was also under-seasoned My child was less than enthusiastic about the pancake as well. So Monument Cafe was hardly a monumental success in our book.

I love visiting local restaurants and this one was really good place we visited this weekend. My husband wanted to really try a local diner and hence I decided to stop by Monument cafe. Every time I drove by this restaurant I found the architecture quite interesting and always wanted to stop by. When we stepped inside it was so beautiful. I loved the energetic and happy vibes in this diner. Every thing they serve was fresh and delicious. For drinks I ordered fresh squeezed orange juice and my husband ordered sweet tea. The orange juice was so good and refreshing. For starters they bring out complimentary biscuits. Ooh you could tell that they made them that day. It was so yummy and I had it with blackberry jam that is also house made and butter. I am not a big fan of biscuits but these are something you keep craving for. For mains my husband had the chicken fried chicken with mashed potatoes and I had the veggie burger with sweet potato fries. Both were really good. They make a really good veggie burger that s so tasty. I enjoyed it so much. They also have breakfast options if you are a vegetarian. I was actually quite surprised by a small vegetarian section in the menu as diners rarely serve vegetarian options. I also got a side of croissants that come with chocolate sauce. The croissants are baked fresh and they are so flaky and soft and yummy. This diner would be definitely one place we would keep going back.

She was top notch from the get go! Her level of eye contact, manner and attention to detail was very refreshing. She was present and that means everything in this business! The Eggs Benedict Florentine was the best I have ever had. I know the Monument is known for this dish. I should have tried it years ago! The fresh spinach, onions and herbs made this dish much more than a basic Benedict breakfast. This dish and Ms. sawyer s customer service was the perfect way to start the day. My sister and I will be back and hope to see Sawyer there. Although, surely she will be moving up that ladder fast. Thank you.

My wife and I decided to try out Monument Café for brunch on a Saturday at noon. Here s how it went: **Food:** I was really looking forward to the Eggs Benedict, but it didn t live up to my expectations. The flavors were pretty bland, and overall, the food was below average. It was a bit of a letdown, especially since I had high hopes. **Atmosphere:** The atmosphere was definitely a strong point. The place is family-friendly and vibrant, making it a great spot for a relaxed meal with loved ones. However, we had to wait 40 minutes outside in the hot sun before getting seated, which was pretty uncomfortable. **Service:** The service was amazing. Our waitress was super attentive and made sure we had everything we needed. Her friendly and prompt service definitely made up for some of the other shortcomings. All in all, while the service and atmosphere were great, the food just didnt hit the mark for us.

Because of all the great reviews for Monument Café, we were excited to finally give it a try. I m sure all those out there that love this place will hate my review, but this is just my honest opinion on an over-priced average breakfast at a crowded diner. My wife and I stopped for a late breakfast with our daughter and her two small children on a Tuesday. Monument Café is a large open-floorplan diner and was still busy even at 10 am. We were seated right away. Our server was very friendly. Although she was busy running between all her tables, she always had a smile for us and didn t rush us. We ordered Chicken Tenders with Sweet Potato Fries, Pearl Sugar Waffles, Three Egg Omelette, and the Chicken and Biscuits. The food is okay breakfast food, but nothing to get excited about. The small piece of chicken with the Chicken and Biscuits was about the size of a large chicken tender and the overall meal size was small, especially considering it costs $13.75. The biscuits were not light and fluffy and were more like thin toasted bread than biscuits. My wife got the two-egg plate. Two scrambled eggs with two overcooked pieces of bacon, a small pile of uninteresting potato chucks and a piece of toast for $11. My wife asked if she could get bacon that wasn t overcooked, and the server brought her out a small plate with two pieces of bacon that were worse and said that was the best that she could grab. For my wife and I with our daughter and her toddler (and a baby that didn t eat), the bill was almost $70. Location is clearly driving the prices, so you pay a premium for where you eat, not for what you eat. I m sorry, but there are better places out there to eat breakfast for less money. That being said, there are clearly a lot of people that love this place, so if money isn t a concern for you, give them a try and maybe you will have a better experience than we did.

This place always serves very good food, the service is very good and it is always clean and busy. I look forward to eating here, usually for breakfast but sometimes for lunch. I highly recommend this restaurant. Parking: They have some parking right in front, but most parking is in the huge lot across to the side, across the street.

Hope waited on our party of two today at 11:00 am. The Avacado Toast plate with 2 poached eggs and a tomato relish salad was really good. After a 15 min. wait, we were seated and our food came quickly after we placed our orders. The yummy Monument Chocolate pie is a wonderful treat! Enough to share! Hope did a great job!! We always stop here when we come to Georgetown.

Was passing through for work and a family member recommended this place for lunch. I had eggs Benedict with potatoes and a slice of coconut cream pie. Great taste and simplicity at its finest. Atmosphere is a old school diner style which I enjoyed. I sat at the counter since I was by myself, waitress was super friendly. Odd to say about a restaurant like this but the restrooms are very nice and private and clean. Highly recommend and will be coming back.

I found this place with a Google search on my way home from out of town. Man, did I score big! This place was great. After my first bite, I knew I had to leave a review. The salmon was seared to perfection, the green beans had a great butter flavor, and the almonds gave it that finishing crunch. Wow! I will definitely find a reason to come back. If you are in the area, this place will not disappoint. Parking: There is a really big parking lot next to the building. For being in a down town location, parking was a breeze.

This place holds a special place in my heart. A few years ago, I took my father-in-law here for breakfast when he visited, and it was a wonderful way to create a memory with him. Today, I brought my husband, who had never been, and it felt like coming full circle. The Monument Cafe perfectly captures the charm of a classic Texas diner. The food is delicious (we both loved our breakfast!), and the atmosphere is warm and inviting. Its a great spot to relax and enjoy a home-cooked meal. Highly recommend for anyone looking for a delicious breakfast and a taste of Texas hospitality!

You HAVE to go to Monument Café! The food is excellent (I highly recommend the Migos and breakfast margarita). We were a relatively large group, so our wait was pretty long (understandable, given how busy the place was), but OMG it was so worth it! Our server, Jennifer (I think), was fun, friendly, and courteous. She treated us like we were the most important people in the cafe (we werent lol). The food was amazing - you definitely got what you paid for. The drinks were amazing! We were a table of 7, and there was not one complaint - only rave reviews! Even the wait wasnt too rough - they put cool water and cups in the waiting areas because its hot in Central Texas! 10/10, will definitely go back!

The people working there are always kind and welcoming. This place is a hot spot in Georgetown and would recommend having their fried Chicken and biscuits with sausage gravy. This last time I tried the migas they were decent but I wouldnt order Mexican food from this place. Still plan on going back to enjoy their chocolate pie!

Surprisingly busy for lunch on a rainy Monday. Was lucky enough to snag one of the limited parking spots and then lucky again to have a seat open up at the counter. (Avoiding the waitlist.) Unfortunately, the counter was pretty dirty, but the server wiped it down after I asked. Service was exceptional; all three employees that helped me over the course of my visit were great. Food was good. Kitchen was very fast to cook the chicken & biscuits breakfast I ordered. It wasn t pretty to look at, but it was tasty. Coffee was too light for my taste; would probably skip it next time. Overall, I was impressed at how they handled the volume of customers and very happy with my visit.

Love this place. Great food, atmosphere, and service. The chicken fried steak with eggs is awesome. The breakfast potatoes are seasoned wonderfully. The biscuits are really really good. The Banana Pudding was something that I would have called the best I ever had except ... It is not too sweet like many you get. The custard is light, flavorful, it does not linger in your mouth. All wonderful aspects. What makes the pudding only good is the coconut. The coconut is not over powering but it is there. If you dont like coconut ... You may want to avoid the pudding . Unfortunately I was told them put coconut in many of their desserts :(
