Very nicely decorated. Reasonably priced. Unfortunately there was a very long black hair in the starter, we returned it. Then we got the main course first and then the starter, which was a bit of a shame. Everything was also fully calculated. Service could be a little better.

After a long weekend, we visited Grotto in Galveston, and it was awesome from start to finish. Our server Anthony was super attentive and made sure we had everything we needed! The manager John Paul also stopped by to check on us, which added a personal touch to our visit. The rest of the staff was equally friendly and professional, making us feel right at home. The food was absolutely delicious, and the atmosphere was perfect. Let me finish by saying that my family are true Italians and they re super picky (annoyingly picky) when it comes to Italian food and they had nothing but good to say too. highly recommend this place to anyone looking for fine Italian dining in the area!

GLUTEN FREE - DO NOT GO HERE!!!! (Long story short, just stick to the salad or find a different restaurant) I just ate at this restaurant last night (8/28/24) and asked for a gluten free menu, the waitress was super nice and handed me her phone with the online version since they did not have a hard copy. The menu clearly said at the top gluten sensitive which was fine for me because I m usually fine with cross contamination. I asked for the penne pasta with just some red sauce and it was delicious! After my first bite I felt something was off and had a feeling I should ve stuck to the salad I really wanted to double check and ask if it was the correct noodles because it really tasted different from my regular gluten free pasta. However I did not want to insult the waitress and make it seem like I did not trust her word so I ate about half of it. About 2 hours later I get back to our hotel and was throwing up consistently for over 3 HOURS!!! The restaurant and service was amazing I just hope to warn a fellow gluten allergy person so they don t have to find out the hard way!

Went on Monday, August 19th, it is really a long walk to the Grotto, but it is a beautiful restaurant. Service was really slow. Young woman seemed overwhelmed. Mixed drink orders took forever. Blue Crab claws were excellent. I had the veal parmigiano , it was slightly undercooked. But, everyone else enjoyed their entrees. My first crown and coke took so long that when the rest of our party arrived I ordered a second one with their round of drinks. Everybody got their drink but me....lol. Our waitress kept disappearing. She was very pleasant when she was at the table.

So, anyway. Here I am with my wife in Galveston. Its our anniversary, and we just did an impromptu get out of town. Mybwife found this place online as a good place for dinner, put good clothes on stuff. Ok, so, the service is top notch, and I never say that about a place. Also, there is a man in the kitchen named Rowlando. This dude did something to my food that I couldnt explain. It was perfect. My wife loved her dish as well, but man, what ever was done to the shrimp, hands down, amazing. So, if you are in town and find yourself wanting a little swanky place to have a great meal and be treated as a king and queen, just book a table and have some fun. Also, our waitress LuLu was on point and can handle a joke. If we didnt have other places to be and eat at, we would come back for lunch, dinner and what ever.

Went for daughter s bday. It was okay. Our waiter wasn t the best. The waiter at the next table brought over the dessert cart and explained every dessert in detail. Ours not only didn t do that, but when I asked a couple of questions, he didn t know the answers. It was overpriced, as most restaurants are these days. Fried artichoke appetizer was good. Had a bite of kiddo s lasagna, and it seemed good enough. Chicken Luis was good enough .nothing to write home about. Same with the antipasti plate, though it was definitely overpriced. Butter cake was yummy!

Always 10/10 food and service. Despite being younger and probably less well off than many guests, the staff here are always professional and never make me or my fiance feel judged. Their options are varied with each having its own allure. I enjoy the meatball appetizer, and their Caesar salad is fantastic, with a gorgeous dressing. My fiance loved his shrimp and crab capellini as well. My only complaint is not at the fault of the restaurant, but its simply just hard to get to. Assuming Im not missing a secret entrance, the only way to get to the restaurant is to park, walk into the front doors of the hotel, walk all the way through the lobby and past 2 other restaurants until you reach the grotto. Its worth the trek for us, but for someone less able-bodied it may be more difficult. Parking: Theres many options for parking, but as its located in a hotel, you may struggle to find adequate parking nearby. Wheelchair accessibility: While there are wheelchair ramps, theres quite a long walk to access the restaurant.

So... like a lot of the Laundry properties... its a little bit of potluck. The problem with the Grotto is the value proposition... (or the lack of one)... for the money there are better restaurants. Service was very good, there was fresh bread on the table when our party was seated and the drinks were nicely sized. The food was good but not great, I had the special for the night which on the bill was called Beer Dinner, for fifty bucks it just wasnt worth it as the shrimps were small and overcooked, the lobster had very little taste and there just wasnt much on the plate. My wife had the crab cake (if you really want a Maryland crabcake dont bother) which she liked. As a bonus the valet parking id complementary. Three stars may be too low but for the money the food was disappointing. At $4-5 per bite the food was the deal breaker. Parking: Bring your ticket to the table...

We stayed at the San Luis and came here for dinner 3 times. First on Monday they offer a family special. Bowl of Salad, spaghetti bolognese, fried chicken(best fried chicken I ve ever had), choice of dessert (cheesecake or chocolate mousse cake) for $38. It s enough to feed 3 adults comfortably possibly 4. Insane value for the quality of food you get. The next night I ordered pepperoni pizza. It was incredible and the last night I got the chicken Luis. Great as well. If you have room for dessert, the tiramisu is good and the butter cake is even better. Give this place a try, you won t be disappointed.

Not good at all. Our waitress was friendly and polite but the food was just bad. We ordered the Shrimp Scampi Grotto and the Mozzarella in Padella for our appetizer. The Mozzarella was good but the shrimp in the Shrimp Scampi was so over cooked that it was tough. My wife ordered the 8oz (55 dollar) Fillet Mignon. Waitress came back after a while and said that they didn t have the 8oz but could get a 12oz (70 dollar) Fillet Mignon from The Steak House. We decided to go with that. She ordered it cooked medium. After about a 40 minutes, our mains arrived. My wife s 70 dollar steak was very well done. It was over cooked, dry and hard to eat. I wanted to send it back but she didn t want to because we had already waited so long for our food. Ended up taking 3/4 of it home for the dog. She seemed to like it ok. I ordered the lasagna which was average but nothing great. My son ordered the Margarita Pizza and said it was great. We have been here before and it was good but it s either really gone downhill or they were having a really bad night. Either way, we won t be back. I was really annoyed that a meal at this price point was so poorly prepared. Update. I sent an email, per the request in the company s reply. I received a reply via email saying that someone would contact me. Well no one ever did. Didn t really expect them to.

The star of the show was the food, I had the beyond bolognese and it was literally the best vegan/ vegetarian pasta Ive ever had; the sauce is to die for! My sister had the ravioli bolognese and she enjoyed it. My little sister had the Caesar salad and it was so bland. The only downside is the place wasnt as nice as the website made it seem, its more casual, than expected. Either way I had a great time and they ended the meal with a free dessert for my birthday! I got the angel food cake and would not recommend, but thankfully it was free! This place is also very affordable, I would definitely come back! Vegetarian options: They have a beyond bolognese, would 10/10 recommend

My son loved his spaghetti bolenese which was very rich and meaty. The drinks and dessert was also very tasty. Parking: Since the restaurant is in the San Luis Resort (which we were not staying at) parking was a bit confusing when we arrived. We used the hotel valet which the restaurant validated the cost of as part of the dining bill, so it only cost us valet gratuity. There is a self park option in a lot behind the resort main building where the restaurant is located.

Husband had finished his meal by time I could actually enjoy without it all being burning. Shame because flavor was delicious. Kitchen needs to be aware of stew temperature and understand the pot it s served in holds the temperature. Server also offered husband dessert options and asked what he wanted to order while I was still eating dinner. Not ideal but otherwise she was very friendly. 1st visit there and somewhat disappointed. The white onion soup was delicious however the chicken dish was not. The rice and sauce with the chicken was very tasty, however, the chicken was way over cooked and extremely tough. The Manger did bring me another dish, pork chops which was better but still not that tasty. She also compensated us with a dessert to bring home. The staff was amazing I seriously hate giving a restaurant of this stature a 3 review but we were disappointed. Parking: Valet and the team were excellent

We both really enjoyed dinner and the service was excellent with several special touches. Brought out a Birtbday cake with happy birthday In chocolate on the plate. Caesar salad, peach Bellini, bread and the Primo wood fired pizza all excellent. I believe Byron was the waiter and service was the best I ve experienced in some time.

We really enjoyed our anniversary dinner this evening. Luis, our server was very attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. We had the Mozzarella en Padella, Shrimp and Crab Capellini, Trio Tomato Pappardelle and the Butter Cake. The Mozzarella was so good. The only miss for us was, I made an Open Table reservation for our 26th anniversary (have email confirmation) but it was not found and hostess just went and sat us at a table for four with no acknowledgement, which is main reason I made reservation. Not to worry though, Luis made up for it when I mentioned it, congratulated us and brought us the best ever butter cake on the house. I would go back for sure. Thanks for making our night special Luis.

Either this Italian restaurant cannot cook pasta, or other people are more tolerant of pasta with mashed potato texture. I got a dish with capellini and it was so over cooked I cannot twirl a good amount around my fork without breaking the strands. The pasta turned into mush immediately after chewing and the texture made me want to gag. I told the waiter and he brought me another dish that he said came out at the same time , but doesn t that mean it s the same batch of pasta?? Is this one better? he asks. No s* Sherlock it is not better. Even the penne in the other dish was over cooked. I don t even over cook penne. Anyways, to give the place some credit, the pasta sauce was great, the seafood was nice, and dessert was amazing.

We went for an event which came with a free app with entree purchase. The place was empty & they told us there were reservations so wr could only sit at the bar. That was fine, but strange. Especially, if you have an event going on you would think they would save room for those. The restaurant probably didnt start getting busy until 45 minutes later which we were tabbing out. Regardless, our bartender ROCKED it serving us & making all the drinks in her own! Food was delicious. I had the braised pork ragu with pappardelle pasta. It was so rich & the portion was large. I took the rest home & had it for lunch the next day. My friends both got the pollo milagnese salad which they enjoyed. The meatball appetizer was also good. It is pricey, but will definitely return for ther Sunday dinner special. They do have a decent happy hour which I forgot to take a picture of.

We had snapper in two variations and both dishes were great. I ve ordered a red sangria for myself and it was sooo good. Talking about a desert- SOO GOOD! (I feel like I ve used those words before already ), but for real , we had a cheesecake and their signature dessert - yummy! Service was top notch! First time visiting Galveston, I promised my family we will all go out for a very nice dinner one evening. This shows up on yelp and boy was I impressed. The entrées are between 20 to 30 each dish. But it is definitely worth it. I ordered a crabcake which was out of this world. My Husband ordered a shrimp pasta and he absolutely loved it. My three little kids hors d oeuvre a pepperoni pizza and it was amazing. Not to mention the bloody Mary is delicious! Finally all waitress is amazing she was patient and professional, water overall great experience.

The Pizza was divine, but the Veal tasted sour and chewed like a leather boot, the waiters all had dead eyed glassy stares as well as brainwashed monotone voices and the manager Made chimpanzee faces at us as we left. my wife was repulsed, but at least they had the good sense to take the veal off our ticket after that. Not coming back, but the decor was nice.

Grotto at San Luis is about service. And they have one of the best bartenders in town, so if you dont have a reservation, take a stool. Youll be in good hands. And although the place is rather upscale, the prices arent outrageous for the value. In the summertime, watch the drama unfold outside at the pool! God bless America! V2... That great bartender is still here after almost a year! Where else can you see that? Thank you, Yulia, for another experience of great food and even better service! Prosit!

By far the best Italian dinner we have ever had. The environment was very warm with some great Dean Martin on the speakers. The service was impeccable with a very friendly waiter who helped explain everything and offer us anything we could imagine. The Mozzarella Padella appetizer was fantastic which was quickly followed by the best veal parmigiana that I could imagine. The girlfriend took one bite of her gluten free Linguine Pescatore and said this is the best thing I ve ever had . The mixed drinks and wine were unbeatable also. We were blown away by this restaurant tucked away in our resort. We would love to come back.
