Koops has been on my list of places to try for years and we finally made it! My husband and I shared the 3 meat plate with brisket, chicken, turkey, Mac n cheese, and beans with caramel apple bread pudding for dessert. Everything was phenomenal. Best turkey we ve ever had and the brisket was so flavorful! I hope to see Koops on the Texas bbq top 10 list soon! Amazing food and friendly service. We will be back!

Let me tell ya. If your a BBQ lover then this is one of the best Ive had. Brisket and sausage was amazing. Brisket beans and Mac n cheese yuuummmyyyy . Sause was freakin awesome. Lots to choose from. Maybe our 4th visit and today we had the Koops Sampler with brisket, chicken, turkey, sausage, pork ribs, 3 sides and dessert. We took it to go. Went at noon on a Saturday. I got a 1/2 lb of fatty brisket and 1/2lb of sausage, with a small side of spicy corn. Brisket was moist, not dry, with ample smoke and spice. Sausage was the same, with a bit of heat. The corn side was generic but the meats were EXCELLENT-Ill definitely be back. Thanks PJ!

We got here a little late, around 130 PM, and they were out of alot, and for good reason. The food is amazing and everyone is so friendly. I recently had oral surgery so I couldnt eat the corn on the cob. I requested a knife to cut it off of the cob, but they brought it out to me already cut off. I really appreciated the extra care and effort. I cant believe I have lived on the island for almost 3 years and am just now eating here. They are incredible and I will definitely be back!!!

My family and I are VERY picky when it comes to BBQ. I can t tell you how many places we have been to hoping to find some great bbq. We never had any luck until today!!!! My mom and I got the two meat plate. We got the Brisket (fatty) and pork ribs and both literally melt in your mouth and have the best flavor!!! I highly recommend the brussel sprouts! Chose this place for lunch because of all the great reviews, let me just start saying that I live in Texas more than 40 years and have eaten at many bbq restaurant and have always finished my plates, From this place was the first time I had to throw the food away. (see photo my plate before I threw it away), I got the 2 meat plate, chicken, pork ribs, mac and cheese and potatoe salad, 22$. My chicken was cold, my pork ribs were rough and hard , no flavor at all, my potatoe salad was sour , the only thing that was ok was the mac and cheese, I was very disappointed , Not impressed at all ,I wanted to like it , but I just couldnt eat it , maybe I got the wrong thing? Again, we were guided to a treasure by locals who knew where to go. Koops was an amazing lunch place with the best BBQ I have ever had. My Beef Brisket sandwich was perfect, without any additional sauces or flavours added. The Potato Salad was the perfect accompaniment to go with the slaw and brisket! My wife had 3 Beef Brisket tacos, which meant I got to try 2 of them the next day at lunch as it was more than she could eat. Our friends had Beef Brisket with slaw and a Stuffed Baked Potato that she says was amazing. We will be returning before our departure for Canada.

This is the best BBQ Ive had on the Island. Got the 4 meat plate that comes with 2 sides. Double brisket, pork ribs and pulled pork. All excellent. Make sure you ask for lean or marbled brisket if you have a favorite. I got the lean, it had enough side fat but not the heavy marbling. Mac & cheese plus the cole slaw was also very nice. We ate outside. Its a nice area. The restaurant was nearly full inside. But, we had the pleasant spring weather to ourselves. Had plenty of food for me and my date and asked for a to-go box and took the leftovers home. If youre looking for a good BBQ place on The Island, look no further than Koops! This is legit Texas BBQ. We had the five meat to share. Portions are generous. Brisket is cut like it should, no see through pieces. Sausage has lots of flavor. Pulled pork has a nice sweet flavor but not overly sweet. Ribs are amazing. Staff and owner are friendly. Go early, when an item is gone, its gone for the day. Great local place with really good food. Met the owner/pitmaster who was very hospitable and happy to talk about the process and how they got where they are. This is the real deal. Run by a husband and wife who know how to smoke meat and how to blend and balance flavors. Nothing is ordinary here. We ve been all over the country trying different BBQ and we are big meat smokers ourselves so we feel pretty qualified in saying what is excellent; what is good and what is subpar. This my friends, is excellent BBQ and the sides are worthy of praise also. We had the 4 meat plate with double brisket loved that he asked if we wanted it fatty or not. We knew we were in the right place! Fat is where the flavor is at so he served us up some fatty point . We would pass on the flat any day for some good fatty point. The pork ribs were honestly the best we ve ever had. We loved the peppery flavor, perfect smoke, tender but not quite falling off the bone, which is perfect is our opinion. Our 4th meat was the homemade sausage was full of flavor also. For sides we had jambalaya no words just get it, it s so good. We also had the slaw which is a perfect blend of creamy and twangy an excellent compliment to the flavorful brisket. The spicy corn was delish and beautiful, kind of like Mexican street corn. We don t normally do BBQ sauce because we want meat that tastes so good, that you don t need it. But toward the end I decided to try it and it was perfect. We re from South Carolina so we love the vinegar based sauces (not the sugary ones) and we didn t expect to get that here but that s exactly what it was and it was really good. I could write a whole other review on the cornbread .it was out of this world. It was like a Mexican cornbread with cream corn, cheese and onions but it has bacon bits on top that s right, bacon bits. Drenched in butter it was honestly the best cornbread I ve ever eaten. I make really good cornbread and so does my mother in law and I typically don t like anyone else s cornbread. This was in a whole other class of its own. We sampled the banana pudding which was also unlike any other banana pudding I ve ever had. She used cinnamon sugar graham crackers in it oh my word. I don t think I d ever want to eat it with out cinnamon sugar graham crackers. This is where you need to eat!!!! It s the perfect blend of culinary art sides and perfectly smoked extremely flavorful meat. The owners are awesome people, we loved meeting them and hearing about how they made the food. They gave us other great recommendations for locally owned great restaurants try while we are in town. We will never come back to Galveston again without stopping at Koop s for a meal!

Just had my first meal at Koops while in town for work travel. It was absolutely fantastic, some of the best BBQ Ive ever had. Its run by a husband and wife team, and Mr. Koop took my order. I told him I was a home meat smokin guy and he confidently replied, Challenge accepted! Asked him for what hed recommend for a first timer, and he suggested the two meat plate with brisket and pork ribs, so thats what I did. He asked if I wanted the brisket fatty or lean, a nice touch, and I went for the point. I was the first one in the door at opening time, 11am, breaking away from the conference Im here for. By the time I sat down, there was a sizable line - a very good sign. Within a few minutes, the very pleasant and friendly young man handling tables delivered my tray. Paired the meal with a Dublin Texas Root Beer, made with cane sugar. For sides, I went with mac & cheese and their brisket beans. Very nice touch delivering the point slices and some burnt ends. And OMFG, the brisket!!! Absolutely melt-in-mouth tender, fantastic bark, explosively juicy. I forgot to ask what kind of wood they cook with. Pork ribs were also awesome, and had been sauced lightly with a thin, penetrative sauce that was both a touch sweet and tangy with some zip. The ribs were tug-off-the-bone, not fall-off, as is right and proper. My one quibble was that the ribs could have cooked just a wee bit longer, the tug was just a trifle stronger than perfect IMO. Very much a nitpick. The mac and cheese was good, but the brisket beans were spectacular. Not sure what kind of beans they were, but Im assuming pintos. They had chunks of brisket in there, but also finely diced/chopped onion, green onion, and jalapeno for a very nice kick. A big bowl of just those would have been a fine meal. I gave it all I had, but could not quite finish. Left a bit of meat on the second rib bone and couldnt eat the third slice of brisket, and only about half of each of the sides. Im totally stuffed! Ill be sure to return here any time Im in town, thats for sure. If youre ever in Galveston, you gotta check it out.

Flavor is not there because all you can taste is someones over zealous had with to many hot spices. I cater many events with my smoked BBQ and if I ever served this kind of heat I wouldnt have a job, or repeat customers Im talking 10+ briskets at a time and 20 pounds of Mac and cheese. Seriously how am I still mobile and you guys have a brick and mortar! Either way I like spicy foods with flavor this was just spice no flavor from the smoke or meat. Look Im sure someone out there may love this place but for me I like smoked meat I can taste not just heat and grease. Please by all means visit at least once and try for yourself, make your own opinion because people still think YouTube can show them how to fix their cars. You may love this small business and Im gonna try it again hope its better next time. If it is slightly better my review will be a 5. Why you ask because that means this is a real mom and pop place that deserves our support. This is just a first review I always ALWAYS on an initial bad review revisit to make sure it just wasnt a bad day.

Koops is the best BBQ joint on the island. PJ and Tara will take care of you, and are awesome folk. The loaded mac n cheese is my go to, but the brisket dip sandwich also is amazing. I would eat there every day if I could. Just make sure you get there early, because they often sell out! Food

Since being here in Texas for the past month. We have eaten at Rudys, Bill Millers and now Koops. Koops by far is the best so far. Brisket was moist and tasty. Sausage was perfectly smoked. Customer service was absolutely on point. We definitely will be back before we leave. Hopefully they have pork belly soon.

This is the second best bbq joint I ve ever been to. (The best is Franklin and that s a high bar). The dining room clean and well planned. Tables are roomy and well-spaced and maintained by a conscientious attendant who s a Koop s ambassador in his own right. We ordered the three-meat sandwich with greens. Brisket, sausage and pulled pork in a big bun. And the bbq tacos, one brisket and two pulled pork with the spicy corn side. The sandwich meats were generously served. Brisket tender, fatty, and smoky. The sausage of great texture, spicy and smoky. The pulled pork nicely barked and moist. The greens were just the best with a taste of vinegar and peppery. The tacos huge! Nicely dressed. If you get the tacos get the spicy corn to sprinkle on top. Yum! The spicy corn a great side by on its own too. We got a piece of carrot cake to go too stuffed to eat it then. Also a half pound of brisket for sandwiches later on. We liked that Koop husband and wife were serving personally the got skin in this game. One thing you ll notice is that there is no bbq sauce visible anywhere. They don t need it. But they will provide some if you must sauce. See phot captions for more.

Best BBQ on the island. I wish I had taken pictures! We shared the 6 meat plate. So much food. Worth every penny. Dirty rice, cold slaw and beans were all very good. Homemade deserts, banana bread cookies! They only cook to serve that day. So when its gone, they are done. Great place

bit into the chicken today and it bled red blood...LIQUID. Not smoked meat color but actually dripped red blood. DISGUSTING!! . In an age of rampant bacteria eating undercooked chicken is not wise so Ive decided I will not come back here again as its too risky and I have changed my rating to reflect that as the chicken has become more undone than the last time each time Ive had it. Update - tried the beef ribs $20 for 1. While it was scads better than the $77 for two greasy slabs of burnt fat on a bone from pinkertons in Houston, they were too wet overall. So far the best beef ribs in Texas have been at Joes BBQ in alvin. I havent tried the brisket here but twice of underdone chicken means I wont be trying any more meat here it would have been interesting to see if its as good as the best Ive had in Texas which is at Pablos barbecue on the outskirts of Lufkin

Brisket and ribs so moist and full of delicious flavor. Best Ive ever had! Not over seasoned and all the BBQ sauce is on the side which is nice. The BBQ sauce was delicious with a slight tangy kick not too salty or sweet. The sides! So amazing, fresh and innovative. We enjoyed a rice with creamy cheese sauce, beans, mac salad, potato salad and street style corn! The dessert was a caramel apple bread pudding that tasted like a cinnamon roll but better! Very comfortable and cute restaurant with a nice cool dining area on a hot day. The owners and all the staff were gracious, helpful and obviously know how to make bomb food! Will be back and recommend to anyone!

I ordered the Special of the Day, 3 Burnt-end tacos in coen tortillas with clintrano chimmiciri sauce, a side of potatoes salad, and ice tea. Delicious BBQ, great potato salad, and generous portions at a reasonable price. Whats not to like! The atmosphere was good. Very clean with good seating. Parking can be a problem during the prime time lunch hour...so carpool over, or walk? I will return to try their pulled pork. Update: I had lunch on 07/25. I had the special, 6 smoked wings, with potatoes salad, tea. The basket had celery and carrots too,...nice touch. Delicious and excellent service. I will be back!

If you seen some of my other reviews, you may notice that I rarely give less than five stars. The reason for this is that I don t usually write a review unless it was an excellent experience. I feel like it s not my job to put anyone down, but whenever possible to lift up. This is one of those cases. I enjoyed my lunch at coops. I met Phillip and he was a great host. His wife is also a great cook. I had the special for the day which was the brisket, grilled cheese and a side of your choice. I chose dirty rice. At many places I have tried dirty rice and it is usually disappointing. In this case, it was over-the-top satisfaction; so much so that I bought an extra quart to take home. The grilled cheese was delicious and stuffed with tasty chopped brisket. I can t speak for the other dishes, but what I had was delicious. Parking: Parking is free on the street but you may have to walk a ways

We eat here in June while looking for food ideas for our wedding and fell in love with the food and service. We ordered brisket, sausage, and pulled pork for our wedding in July and everyone had 2-3 plates of food. Every one of our guests commented that the food was great! this place came highly recommended.... ummmmm NOPE. Rice dressing was mushy.... rice overcooked big pieces of what looks like ground beef... and large chunks of white rice. Loaded nachos... super super greasy... grease all at the bottom of the bag under the container. Asked for no onions on sandwich.... lots of onions on bottom bread..... sausage sandwich equally greasy.... top bread was WET/ inedible by the time we made it to the house. Its a no for me! A waste of money... well stick to Queens.

We were down here visiting in Galveston and my wife pointed this place out to me so we decided to try it because of the great reviews. I will not go on and on with this review but at the end of our lunch today my wife said that the brisket was some of the best brisket she has ever had anywhere weve traveled. Her favorite meat is brisket and when I tell you she knows a good brisket Im not just saying that. So it says volumes about this restaurant and the way they prepare their meat. I personally had the pulled pork and it was fantastic as well. We both got mac and cheese as a side and it was creamy and cheesy and we both thought it was very good. I wish we had pictures to share. But the food was so good that it was gone before we even thought to take a picture. The brisket absolutely melts in your mouth and is amazing! The dining room is very simple, but thats how you know they put more emphasis on the kitchen and the process of making the food. Wheelchair accessibility: Like a lot of places in Galveston, this ones right off the sidewalk and is raised up in case of flooding. It would be complicated to get a wheelchair in to say the least.
