I am giving this rating based solely on my experience of being ignored for 15 minutes at this restaurant. When I walked in to place a to-go order, more than 10 staff members passed by me without acknowledging my presence. I was the only person waiting in that area. When I approached a staff member inside to ask if I could place an order, she told me to wait at the front, where I had already been standing. The restaurant was not busy at the time, so I cant understand why I was treated with such blatant disregard. Was it because of my skin color?

We made a reservation for a table of 25 and they had enough room for all of us! They were very friendly and the staff was on top of it! Only down side for me was I didn t really like the flavor (could just be that I m pregnant) but everyone loved it! Great atmosphere and fun dinner. The Chef we had was so funny and interactive with our table!!!

Food was awful. Ordered chicken/ filet they charge full dinner price on lunch for hibachi fyi . Only thing that was hot was miso soup and chicken, filet was rare , no flavor to chicken and vegetables . Sat for 5 min with food waiting for a waiter had to flag one down to tell him, by this time Im ready to go they wanted to cook more steak , I declined if the rest of the food was that bland and cold Id rather just take my business elsewhere.

If I could give zero stars I would!! This was my first time visiting and I went due the the reviews worst mistake ever!! Not only did I call before coming so i didnt waste my time due to just getting off work and ask if it would be OK to come for one person for the cook in front of experience. They said coming on in you will be find. I arrive and am told I would have to sit in the sushi side of the restaurant and here is the kicker they are still going to charge me the same amount of money for the experience +wanted me to wait while others see my food getting cooked to eat instead of cooking it in the back to accommodate for the missing communication!! Very pleased. We were seated immediately and orders taken shorty there after. There were tons of options on the sushi menu, but no descriptions for the novice like me. Yum yum sauce has to be requested, but is available. Portions were generous, and heavy on the onions if that s your thing.

Very disappointed today. This was my go to Habachi place because other places would not serve single people often. Tonight I arrived at 750pm and no one came to greet me until almost 8. When I asked for Habachi he said sorry we have no tables for 1. This place is suppose to be open for another 1 hr 1/2. I have been served multiple times even by myself. Tonight clearly was not the case and waiting was not going to be an issue for me because I understand. When did 1 person spending $50 or more not be important?

My family loves hibachi so we re always trying out new places. Some are hit or miss but Soji is a HIT! Seriously, one of the best Japanese restaurants we ve ever eaten at (there are a lot) The filet mignon tasted like butter and melted in my mouth. Lobster was fresh and grilled perfectly with lemon & garlic butter. My son even commented on how delicious the ginger salad dressing was (standard at most hibachi places but this dressing was outstanding!) We left with full tummy s and happy. We ll definitely be back.

Service levels were waaaaaay off on my birthday (2/19) 1) We didn t make a reservation. Sun at 5:30 and they didn t have open tables. 15 min wait was fine 2) another couple after us didn t have a reservation. They decided to leave after waiting awhile (key point is only to here if you have a reservation) 3) I waited at bar area to get a drink while waiting for table. After 5 mins and no service I just left 4) We were seated but not offered high chair or booster. Fended for ourselves 5) I had an alcoholic drink. Finished it . Nobody came around to ask if I wanted another for quite awhile. This lack of service really surprised me. We eventually had a waiter return so we could get refills of lemonade for the kiddo, tea for wife and my drink. Service levels were off significantly this night all around and have me concerned Re returning here. 6) wife somehow mentioned it was my birthday. A cold cupcake with Valentine s Day red was brought to table vs normal chocolate cake 7) Asked for check and waiting, waiting waiting had leftovers boxed up and ready to go and waited 5 more mins when we asked for boxes and check like 15 mins earlier All in all, Def disappointed in this outing. Excellent food but absolutely abysmal service. We stood at the front (4 adults and 3 children) for about 10 minutes without even being acknowledged. Once acknowledged we waited for a table (understandable... It was Friday night), for another 15 minutes. This wait time was more than acceptable and had this been the only wait, we would have happily overlooked the poor initial welcoming. However, we were seated and waited around the hibachi grill for 20 minutes before having our drink order taken, and an additional 35 minutes before our cook arrived. By this time, two other groups were seated and had almost finished eating! On top of all that, no one came to refill our drinks or take plates away without specifically asking for it (and yes, we gave plenty of time for this to be done without request). This is the second time we have eaten there, and we are happy to report that both times the food was delicious; the hibachi chef was entertaining and almost made up for the horrendous service. However, neither time was anything close to what could be considered good service. Im not a hard customer, and I rarely leave less than a 3 star review. Most of my reviews are 4 or above. We ve been going since they opened and it used to be a favorite. Went for my bday and it was a horrible night. The older gentleman who was the host was unfriendly, zero refills, the chef was absolutely rude to us and we felt like leaving! Our steaks were 80% blubber it was so gross. Shoji used to be a favorite of our family. Sadly, we waited for nearly 2 hrs at the hibachi table. Turns out it wasnt worth cooking for us. They waited for another fam to fill the whole table. They had two hibachi chefs manning 6 tables. The chef didnt season the rice. The shrimp was over-cooked, the steak was over-cooked, the scallops were under-cooked. It used to be so good....

We have been frequent customers for many years, however the restaurant has been declining over the last year. We were served our soups and desserts with plasticware today - a new low especially when you are paying $20-$30 a person. To add to this experience the service was terrible - we were served drinks at the beginning of our meal and when they were giving us our check. (Which I had to take to the register so that we could end our 2hr service- since no one was really waiting on our table) Do not recommend unless they improve staffing.

We ve been to this restaurant four times so I feel I ve been here enough to give an honest perspective without it being one-off issue. The food is pretty good on both the hibachi and sushi sides probably worth 3.5 to 4 stars. That said, the service at Shoji s is HORRIBLE quite possibly the worst in Frisco/Plano. More often than not, when you arrive nobody greets you. You stand waiting to be recognized (today was nearly 10min). When they do, they don t tell you what to expect. Is there room? How long will it be? Don t know no communication. So, you wait more. Tonight, with the server on the sushi side, the issue was the same no communication. Brought out all other dishes for 3 of our party of five. Then, had to ask for the rest of the meal which they seemed to have forgotten. In short, if you have patience, low service expectations and want decent Asian food (by Dallas metro standards), check it out.

We made a reservation for 2pm. We arrived at 1:50pm. No one would talk to us as we waited patiently. Finally at 2:01pm an older woman talks to us, and we tell her we have a reservation for 2pm. She walks away saying no table is available. A few minutes later a group arrives and the woman sits them right away. I asked the woman about our reservation and she gave me look of confusion at 2:07pm. After waiting for 17 minutes with no services, we left. The restaurant seemed was too busy fulfilling delivery service to provide service. We will not be back here. There are other Sushi / Hibachi restaurants which are cleaner and have better reviews near by. ------- old review -------- Great service and good food. Well priced for hibachi. The quality of ingredients were good and the habachi chef was one of the most fun Ive seen. The staff really make you feel special from the moment you walk-in. Their sushi is good though their tempura dishes could be cooked better. They were not as crispy as they should be.

There are things you expect at a hibachi resteraunt especially when you have small kids. Their eyes light up and literally begged me to go eat hibachi tonight and to say we are disappointed is an understatement. Our chef was not at all engaging. No rolling egg, no flames, no little guy extinguishing the flames, no flipping shrimp, no knife flipping,, no asking how are food is...I could go on and on. It felt like fast food but it was anything but fast considering we waited over an hour to get seated and another 10 minutes to even get drinks. This used to be our favorite hibachi resteraunt but after 2 bad visits, I wont be going back. (I do not ever write negative reviews and did speak to the manager but it didnt feel acknowledged :()

The menu gives very minimal descriptions, staff is very unprofessional and left us unattended most of the meal. Experience was going good until the cook accidentally put shrimp on my mothers plate who is highly allergic (even smelling it can be fatal). However, the lady at the front desk told me that she thought the order was for the previous night so she deleted it. I asked her why? The food was wonderful; the service not so much. From the time we walked in to the time we left, we had to intentionally flag staff down to seat us or serve us. We ordered 2 appetizers and 4 rolls and the freshness and flavor of the food is some of the best Ive ever had. Requesting 4 plates did the appetizers shouldnt have been necessary and we practically had to launch emergency flares to get someones attention. Getting a knife to cut the appetizers into 4 portions took another 5 minutes. Thing is, they werent understaffed or I would be very patient, and they werent busy or I would understand. There was no one waiting in the entry to be seated yet the tone of the service felt like What do you want now? Just hurry up and eat. There are too many places that offer both good food and good service to consider this place again.

Our cook after i told him multiple times no vegetables gave me vegetables. And 10 minutes before that my friend asked for sause and the guy dumped a whole thing of salt on his dish without warning. The food also wasn t nearly as good as Jin beh. DONT COME HERE

Good was ok. As far as teppanyaki goes its ok, the showmanship is minimal. Mistakes in our order, but high desire to make things right, and no questions asked. Service was good and it felt clean. Not busy at the time but we went in the late afternoon, between lunch and dinner crowds.

Very slow service and our cook didnt do anything and rushed cooking our food. Wasnt sure if it was cooked all the way. Also we had a 14 year old celebrating her bday and definitely didnt feel like it except for when the waitress brought her a cake when getting ready to leave. Definitely nit a good experience for her. Food turned out to be ok and drinks was good but big let down on service.

Food was ok but was missing part my order. My kids told them it was my birthday and I even confirmed it with the staff. They addressed the other 3 birthdays yet just tossed the check at me while we were still eating and said bye. Asked to replace the rice with extra vegetables and was denied. Chef seemed like he didnt like his job and didnt want to be there. Worst service ever. I will not be back.

I only had the sushi and sashimi, not the hibachi. The soup and salad were hastily made and presented poorly. I didnt care for either since we eat with our eyes. The sashimi portions were extremely small as compared to other restaurants

We went to Shoji Sushi and Hibachi place for my Son s birthday dinner. We wanted to encourage local and neighborhood business. We got a reservation for Hibachi at 7:30p. We waited patiently. At about 7:40p, The hostess told us there is seat for Hibachi, however it was in the main general sushi dining area, rather than the room designated for Hibachi, and she gave our reservation to another person. We are not happy about switching our reservation. Neither manager nor she was able to explain what happened. We wanted to leave but it is difficult to get a new appointment at this late hour Not sure what we could do! After ordering, to no surprise they brought us the wrong food as well. Overall, this was an unpleasant, disappointing birthday dinner experience. Suffice to say, we are not happy.

My friend and I decided to grab lunch here on a dull Sunday, expecting great food and a bit of a show, as you get with most hibachi restaurants. Sadly, our experience was terrible enough to warrant a review, something I generally reserve for the places that really wow me. First, lets discuss the chef. He was dull and sluggish, appearing half asleep through the whole ordeal, barely saying a word to any of the people seated at our table. He had next to no flair in his movements and it felt like we were watching a line cook, and not even a good one. He heavily over seasoned the meal, drenching everything in enough soy sauce to mask any other flavours present. The meat was cooked unevenly. With half my steak being medium well and the other being blood red rare. He even forgot my chicken, having to grab another portion after everyone else was served. After all that, my chicken was rushed and undercooked, bright pink in the middle of the smallest pieces. I had to shout to grab his attention as he was leaving our table to have him cook it futher, leading him to drench it, again, in enough soy sauce to kill a horse. After he dumped it on my plate he quickly cleaned and left, saying nothing to anyone. I dont know if it was just a bad day or if this is their normal, but I wont be returning. Bad service I can tolerate. Potentially serious illness from badly prepared food I can not.

I come here all the time. Theres alot of places to get sushi in the area but Shoji is top notch. Ive never had a bad experience here and Ive seriously been here 100 times. You cant beat that record. Service is great, sushi is great. Hibachi smells good but Im always there for sushi but it seems to that everyone leaves happy. Come check it out!

Went here for our daughters birthday celebration tonight. We had good service but before we were done with our wine & paying were asked to leave by the manager. Which we found totally rude even asking her if she was wanting us to leave. She replied if you don t mind. Well we did mind but felt uncomfortable so We went to the bar to finish our wine. She came up to us after the ordeal & proceeded to tell us that we were not asked to leave & denied the whole thing. We told her that she might have won the battle but she lost the war. We will not be back. She argued with us so much that we ended up leaving the bar & our wine. HATE LIARS!
