I was actually a repeat customer until recently. This last time (August 31st) our waiter made constant mistakes regarding who was paying for what. She charged my card wrong twice. The first time she was able to cancel the payment before it fully processed. The second time, I didn t realize she charged the wrong amount because she gave me the correct receipt back. However, after I left, I realized she gave me someone else s card back. That s when I also checked my Chase app and saw that she had STILL charged the wrong amount (different from the first but still the wrong amount). Luckily, the person she gave my card to was with the group I came with so we were able to make an exchange, however it was still an inconvenience and a major mishap on her part. I can t imagine the hoops I d have to jump through if she had given my card to a total stranger. To make matters worse, I called the very next day to speak with a manager and let them know the situation. I explained what happened and requested a full refund. Although the manager did not express any remorse for the inconvenience they caused, she agreed to give me a full refund and said it would take a few days. To my surprise, it s September 17th and I have yet to receive a full refund. I also called back a few days ago to see what the hold-up was. I was told that I was speaking to a manager but then when I explained the situation, I was told that a different manager would call me back to handle that. I never received a call back and I never received a full or even partial refund. I ve also called several times since then, and no one has answered the phone. Needless to say, I understand mistakes happen, but this is just insulting at this point. If you make a mistake, correct it, apologize and move on. But I guess that s too much to ask for. If I still don t receive a response within a few days then I will just have to dispute the charge. I didn t want to have to leave a bad review but this is ridiculous. They may not care about losing one paying customer but either way, I have to share my experience to forewarn others.

If you re wandering through Fort Worth and find yourself in need of a cozy hideaway, look no further than Thompson s Bookstore Bar. This gem is not just a place to grab a drink; its an experience that will linger in your memory long after you leave. I had the absolute pleasure of being served by the dynamic duo, Sarah and Natalie, who elevated my evening with their exceptional service! From the moment I walked in, I felt like I was stepping into a warm, welcoming community. Sarah greeted me with a radiant smile and an infectious enthusiasm that made me feel right at home. She took the time to share her favorite cocktails, and her recommendations did not disappoint. Natalie, with her artistic flair, crafted my drink with such precision and creativity that it felt like I was sipping on a piece of art. Her passion for mixology shines through every concoction, and its clear she loves what she does. Beyond their amazing service, the atmosphere of Thompson s is simply enchanting. An eclectic mix of books, vintage decor, and cozy corners make it the perfect spot to unwind with friends or dive into a good read. Do yourself a favor and visit Thompson s Bookstore Bar. Ask for Sarah and Natalie you won t just be getting drinks; you ll be getting an unforgettable experience. Cheers to great service and even better company! #ThompsonsBookstoreBar #FortWorth #BestServiceEver #BookLoversParadise

Honest review: It was 13 of us black folk. Along with one black waiter. This is not to talk about race, just highlighting the fact that black folks were not there. Maybe they go few & far. it was a good time. The atmosphere is a social club cigar lounge. The drinks were ok, not too pricey. If you are looking to get messed up, don t think it will get you there with 2 drinks. Average drinks. The cigars were nice and the environment was very clean and nice!!! You can do a business meeting in there if you wanted to. Now if you are looking for music, with a DJ this is not the place. But if you are looking for a place to relax just to get out of the Norm this is the spot. It s a chill vibe There are 3 levels, but the only way to go into the other levels you have to buy a drink on the 2nd level.

Great atmosphere, but that is about all it has consistently. Service is hit or miss, they sometimes upcharge you for drinks (double the cost of an old fashioned and call it a double pour when all you ask for is a normal old fashioned), and their whiskey prices for a 1oz pour are the price of a 1.5-2oz pour anywhere else. Its pretty wild. If you decide to go there I highly recommend asking for prices in advance or you might get pretty surprised when you get the bill - especially if you drink whiskey.

Books and Booze oh my!! The reviews we read about Thompsons were spot on. They have won multiple awards for best happy hour and Best of My Bartender as well as Best of Fort Worth. Theres no doubt that youre entering a cigar bar but it has great energy when you walk through the front door. The food was good but youre really there for the drinks which did not disappoint. If youre headed to the speakeasy (check insta and fb for the password) they only offer cheesecake to compliment the libations. The prints on the wall captures the speakeasy vibe and there was plenty of seating at booths and bar. Overall a well earned 5 stars

I went here with my husband. Smoking isnt really my thing, but I enjoyed the environment anyway. Were pretty laid back and spending some time away from our busy family life. It was really nice to have adult time without the party craze you experience some places. We could enjoy our conversation and relax. He liked his cigars. Plus, the drinks were good. I recommend the Calypso and Old Fashioned. I did feel like service was a little slow, but I also noted it was only one lady doing it all. She was hustling for every person in there though! Were excited to go back.

The prohibition store front with the bookstore is really cool. But the bookstore is a good spot with the bar and lounge chairs plus coaches. The cigar lounge is perfect for stoking, drinks, and maybe playing cards. Its got a real Harlem gangster vibe, too. They make specialty drinks with fire, wood and such. Check them out!

The bartender downstairs was argumentative when I saw she was busy and went to the barback. Why did you go to him? Caught me off guard when I was expecting a greeting of sorts. Go next door. This place was absolutely stellar. Rohan and another gentleman took absolutely pristine care of me and my date. It made for a wonderful time. The place is cozy and chill. Several social conversations created a buzz in the main bar on the first floor where my date and I had met up as a precursor to a Sunday evening shag. You can imagine a jazz trio with an upright bassist and a saxophonist playing from a corner of the bar. Super cool vibes. Def will return with future dates.

I am new to FW and this place is so fabulous that I have been downtown 6 times for happy hour - and only once did we go to someplace else - The Library cuz they thought it was Thompsons Bookstore but alas, it was not! This is a great place to impress you friends with a sophisticated atmosphere, cool, crisp, creative drinks, and a low $ happy hour - this is absolutely the place! While the drinks are perfection, that comes at a price and it is not in dollars. The service is (intentionally?) slow - so if youve come to HH to get happy fast, this is not the place for you. Downtown FW has more parking opportunities than most downtown areas - I would typically recommend parking in the Sandman Hotel parking lot but its under renovation. I am sorry i cant do better with a location but there is a public parking garage directly behind TBS with a $7.25 per 2 hour rate

During my most recent visit to Dallas for our annual charity golf tournament, my friend and co-founder introduced me to one of the best bars Ive ever been to. With the increasing trend of speakeasies attaining critical mass, Thompsons stands out from the crowd. If you werent with someone who knew it was there, you would probably walk right past it. I noticed something that Ill post in the pictures, that gave me a hint as to what we were going to do. The interior is set up like a library/lounge/lodge, and all the decor is lush and full of character. Each sitting area could be from a movie set. There are actual books that you can read in there, just but sure if you can buy them. The music was a mix of vintage compositions, jazz, and blues, which added to the ambiance. The list of cocktails is outstanding, with many classics and modern takes on old creations. A great list of Texas inspired concoctions, mixed and served by warm, friendly, and patient staff. In addition to having an awesome drink menu, they also boast an incredible happy hour, with includes their signature cocktails and high end liquors. While the main hosting area is decent and delicious, there is also an actual speakeasy, with a secret entrance, that you can also enjoy. It was closed for renovations when I visited, but I will be sure to check it out upon my return. This place attracts a wide range of clientele, because the appeal is timeless. Feelings of opulence can be experienced when in these types of surroundings. But this is the kind of place everyone is welcome and encouraged to enjoy themselves.... Quietly of course... This is a Bookstore

Cocktails were wonderful and went around 6:30 to 7:00 p.m. on a Monday. They had a pretty good crowd. They may want to staff a bartender or at least someone to take orders. As they have very beautiful drinks that are a little complex and its theres no rhyme or reason to who gets served next. Bartender was very friendly just very overworked.

Amazing place to stop in for a drink, if you know the password you might be in for a Surprise! Really skillful bartenders can make you one of their custom creations from the menu, a classic cocktail, or build you something personal based on your requests. I try to stop by whenever Im in Ft. Worth.

Possibly more fun on a less busy night. Staff seemed as if they were indentured servants and very unhappy.

Came here with some friends after dinner. We decided to go downstairs to the speakeasy. Atmosphere was great, a little dark, moody, but lively. Drink prices were very reasonable and the staff was great.

Promised my wife that if she stayed out a little longer; the crazy drinks would be worth it. we ordered. 25 minutes later I asked. server apologized and said shed take care of it. 35 minutes later I was standing at the bar with the server ordering the drinks JUST THEN. My old fashioned was... adequate. My 17 yr olf nephew does a better... never had a drink in his life.

It was better before new management took over. Now you can barely get a drink when it s moderately busy on the main floor. Need two bartenders on the main floor.

This is a cool little spot especially if you are into bourbon and gin. The main floor bar is comfortable with a handle of spots to hangout and bar staff who will answer questions and help you find what kind of drink yoi are looking for. The bar downstairs had friendly and attentive staff I absolutely plan on coming back soon

Beware bartenders pour less (OUNCES LESS) on your second round! 9/8 evening ordered the same drink twice from my server, and the second was much smaller and the same price. Bartender and management more interested in profit than service. Server was professional and good. Service

Went for the all day happy hour on Labor Day around 7pm. Tried to call to see if they were open but no answer, decided to swing by and they were open! Bar was not busy , sat down and took a bit to be acknowledged. The phone rang at least 3 times while we were sitting there and no one ever answered it. The bartender was not attentive, only attentive to what appeared to be her boyfriend at the end of the bar. Great atmosphere with well priced drinks for happy hour. It s unfortunate that the service was poor otherwise we would have stayed for multiple drinks.

I was in downtown Fort Worth on vacation and I stumbled on this place walking back to my hotel after lunch one day and Im glad I did. Very nice place and I loved the atmosphere. Staff was very friendly and welcoming (only went to the cigar lounge to smoke as I dont drink alcohol). Only thing that can be improved is the cigar variety, although I wrote out a list of recommendations as suggested in the menu and gave to the bartender (im talking directly to management here hahaha). I will definitely be back.

We went with another couple to the new opening after the renovation. We could not have been more disappointed. One bartender downstairs, then we went to the cigar bar to get better service and it got worse. He didnt pay attention at all. They all seemed busy and the downstairs bartender seemed overwhelmed. It was a Saturday night!!!! After all the marketing they have done I was surprised how big of a dud it turned out to be with the terrible service. Very disappointing as both couples were really looking forward to going to Thompsons. Ultimately, we headed back to the stockyards.

This place was amazing! It was our first time there this past weekend and we did have to wait to get in but no long at all the guy running the door on 8.12.23 was awesome, good dude. Anyways my wife and I stayed on the main level for a while and then decided to check out the speak easy. That was the only disappointment for us. I thought the main floor felt more speakeasy and the speakeasy felt more like a club. Anyways, 3rd level was a cigar lounge and it was a nice set up. Over all had a great experience and Rosè took good care us all night. Well be back, this place is what the hype says it is.

Fantastic three story bar! We went for an evening of drinks and had so much fun. Same menu on all three floors, but all the bartenders were lovely. First floor is the bookstore themed bar with leather couches and gorgeous decor. Hidden speakeasy in the basement has a dark prohibition feel and has house rules, so if you re looking for a quieter bar, this is the level you want. Third floor has a complete cigar lounge with humidor. Humidor seemed a little dry though. Staff was super nice on all three floors and our drinks were great. The views from the third floor were wonderful. They also have an event center on the second floor if you want your own private space. Parking: Most pay parking lots around the bar start at $18 for four hours minimum. Kid-friendliness: 21+ Wheelchair accessibility: There s a ramp for the entrance and elevator to each floor.
