We went mid-afternoon and it was fairly quiet. Less than half of the animals were out Unsure if they were inside, hiding, or just non-existent. We saw very few large animals. We could hear a lion screaming like it had been locked inside. No giraffes or big cats. We went into the building where rescue cats were, and the staff were so unfriendly! The kittens were adorable. A small bottle of water was $5. In the gift shop, a kid s bottle of juice was $6. It was very hot out, but we would ve rather gone thirsty. The only perk is that the monkeys and orangutans were out and active. The walk was nice, but you can save a lot of money by walking elsewhere. Every person in my group said it was worst zoo we had been to.

This zoo has everything that you need to entertain little ones: splash pad, playground, carousel but actual animals. Many animals have died within the last couple of years and theres many exhibits that are empty. The zoo has some newer areas like the Chihuahua Desert and the penguin habitat but the other enclosures desperately need upgrading and repairs. If you are an animal enthusiast you will be disappointed however if you need a place to take your little one this place is a good option. If anyone from EP Zoo reads my review please consider bringing at least farm animals to fill the empty areas.

I think the zoo is worth it as long as you have a membership. I take my daughter every Wednesday for an hour or 2 and she likes it. It is pretty relaxing too since most kids are back in school now so she has a chance to run around. The staff are ok. If I could rate the staff separately I would say about 3 as well.

I dont understand how nobody is talking about the conditions of the water in almost all the exhibits. Water looks disgusting and it smelled everywhere you passed by. Very sad to see, even the koi in such terrible water conditions. The aviaries had almost no birds around. They closed the Carousel at around 3:30pm and didnt even try to let our kids ride when we got there before the last ride ended. The food, the merchandise, the ride were all very expensive. The glas, where you try to see some of the animals through, like the one where the penguins are located, was so dirty you could barely see them. Not everything is terrible though. They had a splash pad and the treehouse playground were great for the kids. The cat adoption location was great as well. Please, fix the water conditions of these animals.

I have visited this zoo several times over the years when visiting family. I tell people how amazing it is, and its better each time I go. Not this time. Some of the habitats were overgrown and couldnt see the animals, what few animals there are. Some are off the trail, and if you dont follow the map exactly, you might miss something. The website offers Giraffe feeding. I was so excited to share this with my siblings. When I enquired about tickets, I was told they arent doing that. We went early during the week, and there was nothing open to take a break for a beverage or snack. I was very disappointed. Hopefully, the next visit will be better.

This is a small zoo. Some of the animal displays were closed due to the recent rain. You can bring a bag lunch, and the place is very kid friendly with the splash pads and the dippin dots. There is a cat adoption center that allows you to pet the cats even if you are not ready to adopt. There is plenty of parking and a cute little gift shop. Overall, it was a good place to stroll around.

Horrible. Everything is closed. No train, no penguins, No elephants, no giraffes. No of everything. Around 60 people waited for the bird show which never started. They use trash in there exhibits as natural repourpsed habitats. Only in El Paso. Next time will spend a little more on gasoline and go to Albuquerque zoo. Embarrassing for a city this size.

Please do not plan your events here. We were planning on having my child s birthday party here and we were super excited because we LOVE the zoo. They sent us a packet with pricing and once we had sent the deposit, they kept adding ridiculous fees that we were not made aware of. Our point of contact was Adeline Lucero and she made the process incredibly hard and unpleasant.

I wish I could be giving a different review, I felt we should ve been prorated soo much was not open , then I saw about 10 employees cleaning one very small animal pen mostly talking, saw more employees than I did animals in the pens, the small cafe in the back by the carousel, the tables were all dirty, the orangutans pen looked like there was a massive Party and no one picked up, I don t blame employees too much for this I think management needs to really be stepped up. We are giving a honest review of our experience I hope your will be different.

Really want to love this zoo but even though some exhibits have improved, many have not. Its become a lonely little zoo missing a lot of animals. Our most recent visit had no giraffes out for viewing. Only one lion, only 1 tiger, 1 alligator, many monkees off exhibit, no more elephants and a recent loss of the bear. In the bird aviary a lot of birds are gone, that was a waste to walk through. The south American Pavillion was hopefully under some renovation, there were many empty exhibits there. Reptile house exhibits were difficult to see with the glare. The Asian forest exhibit was closed. The sea lion exhibit was filthy making it difficult to see much there. After spending 3 hours there we left feeling disappointed. The wolf exhibit is great to see and though hit or miss if you can catch the mountain lion or jaguar thats good too. The addition of the painted dogs was nice also. On our visit the recent addition of a rhino and penguins had not opened but hopefully well get to see those. Overall, theres a lot of improving this zoo needs. The zoo also needs to have more choices for refreshments actually opened. We saw stand but none of them were open, the food near the elephant was closed and one other stand available had no cold drinks. Id recommend not bothering with their sele tions and just bring your own.

Very disappointed with our trip to the zoo. The show in the amphitheater was just two zoo people talking about a macaw and a horned owl. Large crowds of people just started leaving the show. Then, the sea lion didnt come out of the water for check-ups. The rhino event was just a zoo person throwing food to the rhino in the water. The rhino was unexpectedly cute! No one even showed up to present the show at the meerkat. Again, large crowd with no show. Luckily, one little meerkat jumped up by the windows for pictures. We went early before it got too hot with hopes of seeing more animals, but very few were out to see. All of the concessions like Dippin Dots, slushees, etc. were not open. It is sad to see the decline in our city zoo.

Don t waste your time. Hadn t been here in over a decade and it was better then. Half of the Asia exhibit is chained off, the aviary is closed, the animals were being cared for behind the scenes in a lot of exhibits. It s honestly embarrassing. Needless to say the exhibits that do have active wildlife have the dirtiest glass where you can t get a clear view. There s no showtimes posted, it s basically a splashpad advertised as a zoo. Do better El Paso, this is a shame and there s no disclosure upon paying at least letting you know that it s 1/2 a zoo (if that). Be transparent and let the patrons decide BEFORE they walk the zoo and be disappointed.

ZERO STARS!!!! THEY HOSTED A SCHOOL FIELD TRIP AND ALLOWED CHILDREN TO PLAY ON THEIR BROKEN PLAYGROUND EQUIPMENT . WHERE A CHILD FELL THROUGH AND BROKE BOTH BONES IN HIS ARM. THE EQUIPMENT WAS SO BAD THAT THERE WERE PARENTS / CHAPERONES DOING THEIR BEST TO KEEP THE CHILDREN OFF OF THIS EQUIPMENT . WHICH IS NOT THEIR JOB TO KEEP KIDS SAFE FROM THE ZOOS INCOMPETENCE .UNFORTUNATELY A 5 YEAR OLD CHILD WAS SEVERLY INJURED AND NOW THE GREAT CITY OF EL PASO AND THEIR ZOO ARE REFUSING TO TAKE ANY RESPONSIBILITY FOR THEIR INCOMPETENCE . YOUR HANDY MEN HAVE ONE JOB AND THATS TO KEEP THE ZOO SAFE FOR EVERYONE . INSTEAD AFTER THE CHILD GOT SEVERLY INJURED THE PARENTS /CHAPERONES WERE THE ONES TO GO TO THE BROKEN EQUIPMENT AND PERFORM A NON PROFESSIONAL REPAIR TO KEEP OTHER CHILDREN FROM GETTING HURT. THIS ACCIDENT IS PURE NEGLIGENCE BY THE CITY AND THE ZOO AND COULD HAVE BEEN PREVENTED IF THEY DID THE ONE THING THEY WERE HIRED TO DO AND KEEP THE ZOO SAFE FOR EVERYONE.

Weve had a membership for several years and will not be renewing now. *Original review: Small but adequate zoo. The animal seem healthy and well taken care of. The setup is a little odd, no way all the way around the zoo without lots of back tracking but there was a lot of construction going on so maybe that will change. We love they added penguins!

Growing up in El Paso I have been to the Zoo a dozen times. It had been a couple of years since I have been back. Took my nephews for a little bonding time this past week. In shock, disappointed and saddened are the best words I can describe our trip. Most of all the areas were blocked off and what we did visit was in really poor condition. Most of the glass displays were so dirty you could barely see whatever little animals there were. I was brought to tears when I saw the conditon the sea lion is in. The water is so dirty you could only see it when it was close to the glass. It swam slowly in circles with its eyes closed. The aviary was a disappointment, we saw two birds. All of the Asia area was closed. The prices are also extremely high, I payed close to $60 for 4 slushies. You can definitely tell that they do not care about the animals. I will not be back.

I love our El Paso Zoo. There is a splash pad and a rope course for the kids. Many new animals here and more in the works.

Called ahead of time to ask when last entries would be, lady on the phone said they sell tickets up until 30 minutes before closing time. I showed with my family from out of town AN HOUR & 1/2 before closing, ALL ticket windows were closed & security said they were done selling for the day at 1:40 pm! You all need to get your info straight!

Ugh this zoo really broke my heart especially since this is my home town and I brought my kids and boyfriend since they had never been and to be honest I was so embarrassed and disappointed at how the zoo look and the animals just looked so unhappy and crammed. The fact that a lot of the plants used to recreate the animals/insects/ reptile s environment were all FAKE, there were empty cardboard boxes in the lions sanctuary and others. The giraffes have plain branches hanging with no leaves (what the heck is that about) and the seals and penguin water was GREEN! So disgusted and heartbroken that this is the environment that these wildlife animals are living in. They are so vulnerable and have no choice but to be stuck there.

The El Paso zoo and Botanical Gardens was a huge successful family visit. This was our 1st time visiting since we are new to the area. The zoo exceeded my expectations, especially because my family really enjoyed it from the time they opened until they closed. We will be visiting again, hopefully they bring more wild animals and fill every cage. Oh yeah, please get the train going so my little ones can ride it.

It gets 3 stars because most of the animals are put up or hidden, also because its dirty, its like they forgot about the sea lions its sad ( Im not talking about the green water ) . But overall it is fun!, it would be much funner if it was actually clean and they had more animals out. But they never ever do and Ive been here multiple times. Also they should definitely get more food spots for quick snacks/drinks, I know its a small zoo but they could add a drink stand or two. Also I was very disappointed going into the walk in bird cage, more than half of them were gone, more like 90% was gone.

I would give this zoo a zero if I could . The exhibits were so depressing. The animals looked like they hated everything. The tanks were disgusting and the elephant was eating cardboard. Overall I left feeling depressed.

Went to the zoo last week on Friday. It was such a hot day hut luckily the zoo has a small area to get wet! They also have a nice little playground area that the kids enjoyed. The only down sides to the zoo is its a little small, the main animals that the kids wanted to see like the jaguar and tiger were not out. The food there is very expensive as are the souvenirs. Would recommend if you have some extra money and wanted to try it out.

The zoo was big but the directional to get to the animals was terrible. It would point to the tiger in the middle but then had a fork in the road and we had to guess which way from there. If there were signs they were not easily visible. I felt like we spent half the day just going the wrong direction. When we went 1/2 the enclosures were being cleaned or were closed. Also when we went they were out of 1/2 the food they served. We asked for cotton candy- out, ice cream-out. They didn t seem prepared for guests when we went.

Sad to hear that I can t get season tickets anymore. That was always the best! Smaller zoo but easily navigable, no hassle, pack some food see some exhibits, grab a beer and bounce without single issue. Will say they stretch out all their events across the day and with little kids it s hard to do an all day outing.

Was very nice, not too big not too small the only downside was that we got there an hour and half before close and all concessions were closed up already. If I m ever out that way I will definitely go again!
