Hoppy Monk is the place I recommend to everyone I speak to when they are looking for somewhere to have a delicious burger and beer. The food is always so good and they have such a great selection of drinks. This is also on my list for best brunch spots! Parking: The parking lot is a little cramped but usually don t have too much trouble finding a space to park. Kid-friendliness: High chairs and booster seats available

I was pretty stoked to try a cool new place on the west side with good reviews and I was really hungry at the time (11JULY2024; Thursday). I walked in with my newborn baby and I struggled with getting into the front door with the stroller and the three staff members stood there, smiled, and watched as I struggled getting into the doors of this restaurant. One of the workers said you can sit anywhere you d like . As I m about to find a place to sit, she goes back on her word and says actually it s 7pm and we don t allow children . I was so upset because first of all you watched me struggle and didn t help me and then I go through all of that just to find out you don t allow children after a certain hour. Where does it say that? And could you not offer me an option to order and do take out? That ruined my night and made me feel sad because i was truly just looking for a nice place to eat for once as a new mom with my baby and to enjoy myself. To anyone with kids, know that this is not a family friendly place, especially after 7p.

This place is serious pub vibes. Its not too loud so you can actually converse with people, its a little dark and relaxing, the servers are very fun, attentive, and knowledgeable. At this point Ive been back so much with friends and family Ive tasted nearly everything on the food and cocktail menu. I have never had a bad recommendation from a server because they take the time to ask what you like and make recommendations based on that. So many beers on tap, mead on tap, and on top of that, every cocktail is well crafted, and the food is delicious. They do use fresh local ingredients so they run out of things at times, but honestly rarely, but they also always have a substitute for whatever they may have run out of, and they have vegetarian and vegan options. My personal favorites are the Reuben sandwich, and the duchess burger, with the mushrooms for appetizer. My vegan/vegetarian friends love the al pastor mushroom tacos, and the gochujang cauliflower wings. Vegetarian options: Gochujang cauliflower wings Al pastor seasoned mushroom tacos Plenty of appetizers too!

Disappointing because the San Antonio location is amazing! Ordered online, it says order will be ready in 15 min. Arrived and after another 15 min only 1 item ready. Told to wait for second order, 20 min later they said they were out of the item. Was also told by one worker they have cocktails to go, when ordering with the bartender they said no. Just disorganized and sloppy. This one also had no shaded patio, much unlike the SA location.

We have been to Hoppy Monk three times. The first two times we went, everything was great. Both the food and the service. This time, our waitress was working her first ever shift on a Friday night, which makes no sense. We asked her which cocktails were part of the happy hour and she said she didn t know. I asked her to find out. She came back and said only certain beers and wine. I told her that was strange since last week there were four cocktails available during happy hour. She just shrugged. So I thought they must ve changed things. Later in the evening, one of the bartenders was talking to the table next to us and listing the cocktails available during happy hour. If I hadn t heard him say that, I would ve paid full price for the Margarita I ordered instead of the happy hour price. She spent most of the evening chitchatting with the other waitresses and bartenders. She rarely checked on us. She didn t put in our order of sweet potato fries - brought regular fries instead. When we told her, she acted like it was our fault. Never apologized. She Didn t provide straws or silverware until we asked for them. Took forever to provide refills of iced tea. And overall, she was completely aloof and disinterested. She went home before our meal had ended, so we had no idea that she was no longer our waitress. Nobody came to check on us, so I asked where our waitress went. One of the bartenders said he took her place. I told him we were ready for the bill. Not sure if anyone would have come if we hadn t gone to the bar to ask about our waitress. Lastly, we have never been to a restaurant where iced tea refills were not free. so we were shocked when we received the bill. They really ought to let you know when you order iced tea. I hope they make some changes, including properly training their staff.

This place is a scam! Do not enter. The hoptinist club was a scam! $5 for a beer for 200 beers to get on the wall with a quote! What happened to it? They lost all their customer data. The general manager and the owner been giving their customers the run around for 3 years on how they are going to fix their club. They have no solution. I have showed them my excel file with all my beers from 2016-2020. Some of your customers were close to get on the wall but yall failed us. Wonder why your sales are down and customer did not return. Time to step it up and own it. Land of mañana with no action .. stop giving your customers the run around. Email and talking to management is a waste. Parking: No parking

Update June 2024 The place is so inconsistent again. The last time I went I noticed the burger was smaller and not as tasty, hoping it was a one-time thing I went back again today; and the food was disgusting. The burger tasted mostly charred, and some of the non-charred parts were either decent or extremely salty. The bread was dry and the ends were hard. The cauliflower wings were too hard and my girl couldnt finish it. We would have loved to share this feedback but the waitress didnt stop by the table again until we were ready to leave and never asked how the food was. My girl got her side first, then her wings, then I waited about 7-10 minutes to get my food. People go to restaurants to eat together at the same time. I loved this place but I think Im going to take another 6-month break from them so they can get it together. Also: why have a rating system built into checkout if the server takes it away when the payment goes through and just hits the thumbs-up button? Update: Sept 2023 They finally got back on track the past few months (since around September) and I have been back several times since. --- I love the food and the drinks are good but for about the last 9 months ( around Dec 2022 until August 2023) the service has been bad and has only gotten worse. I hope you make improvements soon and dont let this place die out.

Nice tap selection. Food was just ok: Ribeye sandwich was too salty, veggie burger patty was mushy ( please dont punish vegetarians more), extra crispy fires were underdone and brussel sprouts were mostly sauce. Also didnt appreciate the upcharge for using a card when you only accept cards. Vegetarian options: I love having vegetarian options, but hate it when they arent good. Id rather know that I am going to be limited to mashed potatoes and steamed broccoli than get my hopes up and have them dashed.

I used to love this place -- I often had business lunches here, brought people from out of town for meetings, and the fam too. The fare was cool and the service efficient and friendly. I was so disappointed yesterday. We were treated as if we were an afterthought by the waiter -- the patio was busy, but not as other times. He simply forgot about us. He took forever to bring just water. When I ordered the food I found out we had to pay extra for sides (meaning, fries for a burger). This was not the case a few months ago (yes, I get inflation, but then the overpriced burger didnt really make up for it). Our food took forever (wings and a burger). I had to ask him twice what happened with my order, and only after the third time he came back to tell me the kitchen had made a mistake, and so it would be another 5-10 minutes before my burger would be ready. About 15 minutes later (we were getting ready to leave by then) another person brought a tiny plate with a tiny burger, apologized briefly and left. I was not happy. We were done, so done by then. But we ordered just another round of lemonade before we left, and the waiter got the drinks wrong. Really? Who messes up lemonade? He said it was the bartender. I just went ahead and ordered the bill. When I gasped at the total I asked to see the ticket: he was charging me for the lemonades. And of course, for the overpriced mini burger that I ate because I was by then, really hungry and tired of being ignored. I did not pick a fight. It was not worth it. I paid the bill and left. But I will never, ever go back. This was a place I was super happy to bring people to. Not anymore.

The best fries with dipping sauces. Brussels sprouts top notch. Black bean burger excellent. Pretzel was perfect. But my wife and I love the Red Velvet and Cookie sweet stouts. None available. Now with the service. We were served filthy plates. I thought it was a joke. They had fresh wasted food on them. We called the waiter over and showed him. He apologized. Seriously the staff needs to inspect dinnerware before serving. We love hoppy monk and will definitely be back.

Food and drinks were 10/10, however the portions and prices were absolutely ridiculous. The burgers are sliders at best for $12. Dont get me wrong, theyre delicious, but $12 PLUS the cost of fries? Absurd. The drinks are averagely overpriced just like everywhere else, but that doesnt make it right. We couldnt get anything more than an entree and a drink each because by then wed hit our $50 budget and were still hungry. Also, parking sucks. Get an Uber.

Been there twice recently and both times had subpar service in general. The beer menu is expansive so questions like what would you recommend are to be expected. When I went with a friend, the server we got seemed annoyed that I even asked and said idk man we have 60 some beers on the menu. I commented to my friend about it and he said the server had the same reaction when he asked him about recommendations. Beyond unprofessional. Second time around, my friend was served a 5oz pour of a beer because they only offered a 5oz or 23oz of the beer? It was a sad display of customer service, tbh. Yall have a great product. I used to come here a lot - since before the SA location opened - and had not been in a while. Quite a shame that the quality of service has gone down. When I would ask previous staff what beer would you recommend they were able to recommend something decent. Even teased out a few preferences.

Uhm . Imagine going to a pub/beer place where you arent sure what a beer tastes like asking for a sample (like many other bars like this one provide) and not being allowed a sample because of a policy? I have to pay for a 5oz pour to find out something i could have found out in one sip? Are yall losing money that much? Make sure you know EXACTLY what you like before you come here, even better? Go to whole foods and buy beer for cheaper and drink at the bar where they NOT ONLY open it for you to consume on property but allow a SAMPLE. Ridiculous. Burger was pretty good tho

Went on a Sunday evening parking was an absolute nightmare, our food took about 1 hour to get to us after waiting about 30 mins for our drinks. We didnt order anything complicated 2 burgers and wings. Nothing came out together it was an hour before the first burger came out.... then another 20 mins my wings, then another 15 mins the last burger. So needless to say, it is hard to enjoy your meal together if waiting for everyone to get their food means people are going to have to eat cold food. Had to have the brussel sprouts removed from my bill because they never came. The food tasted pretty good, but the experience was not the greatest.

This review is shared based on my own experiences at Hoppy Monk in El Paso, without any external influence or compensation. Hoppy Monk presents an outstanding blend of local craft beers and unique culinary creations, making it a standout destination for those seeking quality and innovation in their dining experience. My visit was highlighted by the exceptional local beers, which showcased the depth and diversity of El Pasos brewing talent. Each beer was a discovery, offering distinct flavors and aromas that perfectly complemented the meal. The rabbit tacos were a revelation, combining bold flavors with the freshness of locally sourced ingredients. This dish, a testament to Hoppy Monks commitment to culinary creativity, was both satisfying and surprisingly refined. The rabbit was tender and flavorful, encased in soft, freshly made tortillas, and accompanied by a blend of seasonings that enhanced the meats natural taste. Its important to note that Hoppy Monks reputation for excellence means it can become quite crowded, especially during peak hours. The popularity is a clear testament to its quality but does suggest that visitors should anticipate a bustling atmosphere. This vibrancy contributes to the overall experience, though, infusing the space with energy and excitement. In conclusion, Hoppy Monk is a must-visit spot in El Paso for those who appreciate the art of craft beer and innovative cuisine. The local beers and rabbit tacos are particularly noteworthy, offering a taste experience that is both unique and deeply satisfying. While the crowd is a testament to the venues appeal, its a small consideration for the quality and enjoyment that await at Hoppy Monk. A visit here promises not just a meal, but an immersive experience into what makes El Pasos culinary scene truly special.

From the very beginning he had a bad attitude and was rude and rolled his eyes every time we asked a question. They had ran out of what we ordered so we had to order something else she ended up ordering quesadillas which was like a deep fried taco almost. It tasted as if you were eating a meet flavored grease Popsicle it wasnt very good and the waiter almost charged what we had originally ordered and plus what we had to order. We had never been to this place we where just passing through the place is cool but we will never go again since we had a bad experience.

I have died and literally gone to burger heaven. Must I say more? The Hoppy Monk is a small burger joint on the West side of El Paso. The menu has a variety of other options of which I have tried a few, but almost always head back to my first love, the Bacon & Egg Burger. It just hits the spot every single time, and it pains me to lose an opportunity to have it once again for one of the other entrees. Im just a faithful lover, you know. The burger itself has a fried egg over a juicy meat patty cooked to your desire, wrapped in a bacon marmalade. There is an aioli sauce in the concoction. It is definitely a messy love affair, but who am I trying to impress but my stomach at this point? There are a variety of sides, but I just cant steer away from the sweet potato fries and walnut aioli sauce. Sounds weird, but is delicious. The fries are cooked to a slight crisp and dipped in their special sauce just makes me smile. I have also tried their Duchesse burger, while also good, the fancy named onion jam (duchesse de bourgogne onion jam), as it is named has onions and has jam, is a bit too sweet and mildly tangy for my taste. There is also no egg, which is blasphemy, and can be added at an additional cost. Their lamb barbacoa tacos are light and fresh in a purple corn tortilla (...what?). Meat is tender and not greasy as it usually tends to be at other joints. The vibe is very much hipster bar with many beers on tap. There is seating outside for large parties, but unless you want to melt, I wouldnt recommend it this time of year. Sunday is all day brunch. Their normal hours start at 3pm most days. When dining during normal meal times on the weekends, expect for some difficulty with parking as the lot is small and circumferential to the locale, which to begin with, is not that big.

I want this dish again!! custom service.. was amazing .. loved it .. .. atmosphere was as good .. the only thing was the seats are wood and after sitting it can be uncomfortable .. no cushion seats .. also it was really cold but other then that I would definitely be back .. My gf and I were looking for a place to eat late around 10 pm the night before thanksgiving, this was the only place open we could find. They have a large selections of beers here, myself and gf got one and were both satisfied. We started with the soft pretzel and it was okay, just a regular pretzel-not too salty not too little salt. I had the Adobo quesadillas for an entree, they were good, very greasy though. My gf had the roasted green chile and asadero burger (the waiter said it was his favorite) it was really good, I recommend this for sure. Service here was great and they were really nice. Would recommend. Thankful they were open when no one else was.

What a rough dinner and drinks experience last night. After sitting near the bar, we went unnoticed for a bit of time. We placed a drinks order with our waiter(a) who soon started covering the tables outside. A different waiter(b) (who was super nice and attentive) noticed there was no movement at our table, so she came and asked if we were okay. She went to chase down our waiter to see what was happening, to which he came and dropped off our drinks and took our food order some time later. Again, he was gone to cover the outside area. The first thing that came from the kitchen was my brothers burger, followed by my fiances plate a good 5-10 minutes apart. My fish and chips never came. Waiter B saw my food had yet to be served and came over to talk to us. She was super nice, super apologetic about it. At this point we canceled the fish and chips and asked for the bill. This whole time the managers were sitting at the table directly behind us and didnt help. Waiter B went to find our waiter to let him know we wanted our bill. This took maybe about another 10-15 minutes of us waiting. The waiter (b) noticed we were still waiting and took the lead to get things going so we could be on our way. Someone else, who was sitting with who Im assuming was the manager, came with our bill and told us they were super busy and told us to have a good night. It seemed like the only one who cared was the waiter who saw everything playing out the whole night and kept apologizing. What a rough experience....

I heard a lot of good things about this place. The owner even got a great review in one of the local TV stations. Here is my experience in this bar restaurant on a Saturday night. The parking situation can get critical at this location. First time visiting the place. I had no idea what type of food this place served. The menu can be confused to understand it. Prices are not up to date. The place was so busy that the waitress was not explaining too well about the menu. I finally realized that this place is excellent for vegan eaters. The mushroom tacos were excellent and a little expensive. The place is well known for the so many variations of beer that can be overwhelming. College crowd for sure. Overall, I felt out of place because I fit in the middle age crowd, It was a little expensive but excellent food.

The atmosphere was great. Service... not so much. I recently moved here and am looking for establishments to spend my free time. I was excited to try The Hoppy Monk. I walked in and sat at the bar and noticed the impressive selection of brews and liquors, so I asked the bartender for his recommendation on something to drink. Uhhh... IPAs? was his response and he went back to cleaning. No house favorites, or explanations of featured drinks. Now, Ive been working in the service industry for nearly fifteen years, and I know that recommendations and upselling goes a LONG way. If Ive never been to an establishment, I always ask for a recommendation and will typically take it. So, when I placed my drink and food order, I asked for the Pineapple Ahumada (SP)? and the Blue Fox Burger. He didnt acknowledge the order, so I double-checked to see if he understood what drink I was ordering because I BUTCHERED the pronunciation. I asked for a taster of the Melted Cookie Dough brew. He started to ring it in and then seemed irritated when I asked if there was a charge for it. (Some places charge, some dont, I get that) I cancelled the taster order because of his attitude, but I would have been more inclined to follow through if he had been forthcoming or gone into detail about charges. My drink was delicious, however, an order of empanadas came out during my meal... because he said he thought I asked for empanadas when I was asking for the drink order, which is why I double checked because he didnt repeat the order back to me. Nonetheless, I told him that I wasnt going to eat it, which prompted a swift removal of the empanadas and an irritated sigh. I felt super un-welcomed and I was ready to leave after that. He also seemed to be frustrated with the other patrons closing out/ordering at the bar. Although there was minimal concerns for checking back, the burger had great flavor, the aioli was superb, and the presentation was gorgeous. I think next time, Ill just sit somewhere else, or come back during the day. I get we wanna go home when its later in the evening, but it was nearly two hours before close when I showed up, and not busy at all. Props the other bartender/bar back for having an endearing personality and checking back on me. Thats why Im leaving two starts for service.

I came here to celebrate my friends birthday because he wanted to try a lot of the beers. The alcohol selection was great. The atmosphere interior was really cold which was wonderful on a hot day. Or you could sit outside on the patio and it was shaded at sunset. I think the food is overpriced however, it does have a twist to everything. I had the Blue Fox Burger which had blue cheese in it and a sweet poached pear slice. It was a very good combination. The portion size was appropriate, but not value. The burger was small, but the quality of ingredients and pairing of savory sweet was spot on. I wanted to get dessert but I could not justify spending $9 on a small piece of cheesecake even though it was homemade. The French fries with the burger were not plentiful. Again it is an appropriate serving size, but we all kind of want value in a meal. The atmosphere did feel pub like. There were only a couple of servers and you had to flag them down but it was no big deal because they were responsive and friendly. I would recommend trying this place, especially if you like specialty beers, brewing house type stuff.

BEST burgers in El Paso! This is the only bar/restaurant I will make the drive from Las Cruces to enjoy the good beer, burgers and ambience. I have been a customer here since they opened and it was here that I discovered my favorite beer (it was one of their rotators at the time). Hoppy has the best burgers in the area in my opinion with the Bacon & Egg burger being my favorite. The kitchen is consistent in quality and taste of the food. The matcha Brussels sprouts are also amazing. They have a very large selection of beer too which is nice for someone like me who can rarely find a good stout year-round. The staff is always great and there has never been a long wait for food. My only complaint is that smoking is allowed in the outdoor dining area. I feel that restricting smoking in that area would make the patio a perfect place to enjoy a burger and beer while enjoying El Pasos glorious summer evenings.

The burgers and fries are really tasty. But not worth $15. The burgers didn t even include fries. I had to pay another $3.50 for fries. Then I had to deal with a grumpy girl behind the bar to place my order. She had me scan a QR code for the menu. I made my order to go and the grumpy girl didn t even ask if I wanted anything to drink while I wait. Not even water. She needs to get another job. The prices on the menu were all $3.00 more than on the menu. Didn t find this out till after paying the bill. Great burgers but super expensive and bad service. Update: the owner replied about the grumpy girl and wrote this is not the experience they want customers to have. That s good. But then stated the price of the burgers are $11.50 with fries. This is even worse. Not only was the grumpy girl grumpy, but she over chatted me around $20. The service is bad and they don t know basic arithmetics
