The staff here are so courteous and attentive! I loved the employee who helped me! Thank you for the kind service. I was going to try the chicken fried steak but had a last minute change of heart and went for the chicken fried chicken instead. It was delicious, and the fried okra was amazing. I would absolutely recommend this spot and will put this back on my list if Im visiting Denton again someday. Thanks for a great meal.

Visiting Denton from Arizona and asked my brother to get a good chicken fried steak. Found myself at Cartwrights. My server was a doll, food came out quick even though they were a full house and daggum was it a big plate full of flavor. Highly recommend the green beans and mashed potatoes to pare with the chicken fried steak. Two weeks in Texas and I wont be eating out much in Arizona anymore because dang can they cook in this city. Not to mention the meal was cheaper than if I got it back home so the server got the difference added to her tip.

Ate here with my family for my birthday. It was long overdue. Have lived here 12 years, and now Im a huge fan. We got chicken fried steak, chicken fried chicken, and a steak with sides. I tried them all and was so impressed. The steak was amazing, and were a big steak family. I totally understand why the chicken fried chicken and chicken fried steak is so popular too! Mac and cheese was fab, and got nice fresh salads. Great service and atmosphere, thank you guys for such a lovely evening.

I have eaten here many times and it is always a pleasure. Everything is fresh and tasty. Catfish is amazingly good your mouth will do a happy dance . The meatloaf taste like mom use to make . This is one of the RACIST restaurant in denton. I was waiting to pickup an order and they made me wait for 35 mins and then they said someone else picked it up already. In between i asked them several times about the status, they were telling me its being prepared. Then they were not responding properly and I waited for 50 mins until it gets cancelled. They were not even ready to talk with me and they dont even care about me when i asked them they were not even answering to me properly. Their answer Was it happens sometimes and they dont care about the person talking to them.

Wrangle the family and kick off the spurs to have a chuck wagon meal. From the Chicken fried steak to the US Marshal hash the meals will put a shiny star on your chest! Texas is big country and at Cartwright s the plates are as big as the state. The staff is the nicest west of The Atlantic! Never a hungry traveler will there be with the awesomeness of this chef! The biscuits are better than a trail blazer and the sizzle burger will be the reward for your hard work! Fantastic place!

We decided to try something new for dinner last night and ordered off DoorDash. Food came quickly and was warm when delivered. Large portion of fried pickles, but they were so salty we couldn t eat them. My chicken fried steak was tough and did not have good flavor. I was disappointed that my mashed potatoes were instant and lacking flavor as well. I gave 2 stars because my husband did like the catfish.

This was the first time eating at Cartwrights. It was a Saturday and very busy!! They serve a variety of food with breakfast all day. My daughter and I ordered the 2x2x2 (2 eggs, 2 bacon, 2 pancakes), my husband ordered the chicken fried steak, and my son had the bacon burger. All in all the food was good. My pancakes were a little dense, but I still ate most of them. My husband enjoyed the chicken fried steak. If we have an opportunity to return, I want to try their fried chicken since the back of their t-shirts said they are famous for it. This little restaurant is located in downtown Denton on the square across from the old courthouse. Its a very cute and busy local area! There are lots of restaurants and boutiques around the square. Yet it can be difficult to find parking at times. I highly recommend visiting if you are ever in Denton, Texas. Note: We ordered 4 meals and 4 drinks, and the bill was $74 before tip. The floors of the restaurant were dirty, yet the place was very busy, so giving grace for possibly not having time to clean it (giving 3 stars for the atmosphere and 4 stars overall).

Atmosphere? Youre not coming here for the atmosphere. Youre coming here for the all-you-can-eat catfish, if youre like me. Price is great. Quality is great on the catfish and all sides. First, you get whole filets of catfish, not those little bitty chunks. Second, the filets are fried right, with just the right amount of breading, so theyre hot all the way through but the breading isnt mouth-burning. Cole slaw? Good, with the dressing not being all goopy-sweet. Hush puppies? Flavorful with just enough jalapeños. Fries? Good, and seasoned, not plain.

This is a great little local restaurant. The food was great. Had there all day breakfast at lunch. It was 2 open face biscuits covered in sausage gravy and scrambled eggs, real crumbled bacon and sausage. I got the skillet potatoes on the side. They are also good but I dont normally like them in my food. Personal choice, I guess. The wife had chicken fried steak and grits. I would highly recommend this restaurant. Oh and the people are very friendly.

Took my friend who had not been to cartwrights, told her it was a nice hometown friendly restaurant with home cooked food , we walked in and it was a typical busy Saturday morning, we stood there for a few minutes and a server walked toward us to deliver something to a gentleman at a table, she did not look at us on her way there and then proceeded to walk back by us and again didnt look at us , straight up rude ! When we came in , we were sat at a table and ignored. Many servers passed by, and still nothing. We finally asked if there was a server, and they reluctantly went to find one. Sure enough, the server that came over had passed by multiple times. We ordered, and the food was terrible. The chicken fried steak was super salty, and my sons pancakes were not cooked through. My husbands burger was super dry with no flavor, while the fries were super salty. On top of that, the server continued to barely check on us, and when we got the bill, she never came back to take our card, so we managed to find some cash and left. We have been coming here since this restaurant was opened and we are sad that this is now how it is. We have never once had bad service or bad food. Hopefully, this is a one-time occurrence, but we probably wont be coming back to find out.

Walked in this afternoon to have lunch. As soon as we walked in, we were greeted with about 10 eyeballs looking our direction. Oh, cool. We will be served soon. I was approached by a homeless person while I was eating at this place. The employees seemingly did nothing to prevent the person from harassing other customers as well. My waiter, Joshua, was phenomenal and very kind. He made sure I was well situated throughout the entire experience. The catfish was sublime, and the sides (mashed potatoes and green beans w/ bacon) were very tasty. Their Coca-Cola was perfect. As a soda snob, I was very pleased with the syrup-carbonation ratio. The ice was nice and crushed and altogether I enjoyed it. I noticed they only have one womans restroom, and the other is a multi-use restroom. No restroom specifically for mens, which was odd, but I didnt care too much. A fantastic place to bring friends or family or even a first date.

I took my mom here today for her birthday, she loves a good steak and I wanted to try out a local spot rather than texas roadhouse, well we should have chose texas roadhouse. We sit down, granted I will say we were greeted promptly, but the service as a whole was bad. I asked if I could get a beer and asked what they had, I was told to look in that thingy over there pointing to a fridge placed further down past and behind my table, I had to lean over backwards just about to make a decision since I couldn t just be told my options. I order a corona with a dressed cup, she says okay and comes back with just a cup and the beer, then Im told once I ask for a glass with salt and lime that they dont have that, that obviously isn t her fault but something I feel a place should have ( bar salt and limes) that serves beer (coming from someone who also works in the industry at a bar). Order the catfish basket, food did come out great, would be great if they served the side salads before the entree meal as is the norm but thats fine. Asked for cocktail sauce for the catfish, again something they did not have. At this point I was kind of wondering what was available, as the server wasnt seeming to offer options or insight. The food was good and did come out in a timely matter, but the only time drinks were checked or we were checked on was when we had to flag our server down. I had to stop her from just walking away after dropping our drinks off to see if we could order an appetizer. Aside from the good food, I will not be returning here and it put a big damper on my moms birthday evening. I am always for supporting local but hiring attentive and caring staff could really do wonders for this business, I hope to see them improve on that aspect in the future.

Great place for a burger and I expect from the looks of other orders all the food is good!!! Open dining and sit where you want makes it easy to find a table that fits your needs and party side. Fun atmosphere with many paintings and local items on the mural. As a first timer I got the full menu tour with highlights and favorites... our server Easter gave excellent recommendations (which I took)! My go to burger is a mushroom & swiss... it was awesome (the bun was incredibly soft and fresh)!

I came here for breakfast before an important trip and it was a mistake to eat here I ordered an omelette.I ate half of it cuz it wasn t very good but then I started to feel really sick I got to the bathroom and I find a baby cockroach on the sink! (which means there s probably some in the kitchen). A good 15 mins after I had extreme stomach cramps and horrible nausea I took meds but they took hours to work. Easy to say I won t come here again. And the whole restaurant was dirty. Just be careful if you do roaches spread all sorts of stomach diseases!

I really wanted to eat here, but the tables are so close. I didnt feel safe with covid, but it smelled delicious. After my second vaccine Ill be back. ***Update*** Weve ordered via uber eats probably 6 times now. Everything is delicious!!! Id go back in and sit in a high chair to eat this food!!!!

A great place for breakfast all day. I had the Migas and it was fabulous. The service was good and friendly. The only downside was that they were mopping and squeegeeing the floors in the dining room (around our table) while us and other folks were eating. I would prefer they do this after hours.

Was craving steak, and decided on Cartwrights based on the google reviews and also they won best something or other in 2023 in the City of Denton. Went there and sat down. The server was nice and fast. We ordered a pair of ribeye steaks, one medium, one medium rare. We also had chips and queso. The queso was very runny. The taste was barely there. When the steaks came out, I was immediately disappointed. The steaks were small, they were not seared, and did not look right. I started cutting thru mine which was medium rare. It was not even medium rare. I cut a piece, which was very difficult to cut thru, and put it in my mouth, .. it just didnt taste right. I had to spit it out into my napkin. I called the server over and she took the steak back to cook some more. When it came back out, one side was seared but not the other. I went ahead and tried a second piece. It just tasted like raw meat with no seasoning. I didnt even try the rest of it, and I focused on enjoying the chips and runny watery queso. We asked for a to go box and put the rest of my steak, and my wifes steak in it. The sides were awful too. Broccoli did not have a good flavor, and the loaded mashed potatoes were awful. The mashed potatoes were like goop, and the toppings cold. The cheese never even got warm. I had one small taste and left it on the table. As soon as we walked out, I ordered a medium ribeye steak from another place in the area. When I got home I opened it up and put it side by side. You tell me which one youd rather have. These steaks costs the same! I will not be back to Cartwrights. The server was nice and fast but the food is hands down the worst steak and mashed potatoes I have ever had.

We have enjoyed meals in the restaurant in the past, but this is the first time we had dinner catered for a group (20). We ordered the grilled chicken (plus one chicken fried steak), green beans, mac & cheese and mashed potatoes with gravy. We had some specific dietary needs and they were very helpful! EVERYONE (ages 11 - 81) went back for seconds. It was SO good! You can always tell that folks enjoyed dinner when they take leftovers home. The portions were overly generous and the price was very reasonable. Having Cartwright s cater, freed me to enjoy visiting with family and friends, rather than cooking and washing tons of dishes. It was all done on short notice, too! It was a big win and we will definitely be calling Cartwright s for future get togethers. Thanks John & John-John for taking great care of us! I met a group of friends for brunch a couple of weeks ago, and my experience was wonderful. We made a reservation that morning, and when we arrived, we were seated right away. Our server was very friendly and accommodating. I am pretty picky, and wanted a little of everything off the menu, but our server didnt miss a beat. I ordered exactly what I wanted, and she took care of it with no problem. My coffee cup stayed full, and I was even offered a fresh cup so it was nice and hot. The food was delicious and very reasonably priced. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is because of the layout of the restaurant and the bathroom. Due to it being a historic building its on the small side, so it feels a bit disconnected. The bathroom was very clean, but it could stand to be updated a little. This place is delicious, I highly recommend it!

We ordered the hoss, the breakfast burrito, and the rattlers through my boyfriends doordash. I picked it up at the restaurant, and staff werent exactly the nicest. Also got a lot of stares from the other customers.. The waitress barely gave me any eye contact and dropped my order on the table instead of handing it to me. When I got home and opened the bag, they had only packed the burrito, a queso, and a random biscuit. When we called the restaurant, they claimed that the doordash delivery person must have stolen it. We didnt do delivery, we did pickup ourselves... They said they couldnt do anything and to call door dash. Needless to say, the burrito was bland and cold. The queso that came with it was also cold and badly thick, and the biscuit was of course dry.

I have been catering lunch for Thanksgiving and Christmas for about 6 years. I would have to say that, hands down, Cartwrights has been the best. The quality of each item was top-notch. My family and I have eaten there for a while, but this event just confirmed the high level of service and food that my family has become accustomed to. Even before me and my son walked through the doors we smelled southern comfort and when you walk in you just know the food is going to be great and the general atmosphere provides to that from the menu, to the mural on the wall it s pure blooded Texan and then don t even get me started on the food. Food was all very well seasoned and the potions are more than generous. The fried pickles could have fed a table of 6 easily. Even my picky eater child was over the moon and ended up nearly abandoning her chicken strips entirely for her mothers pork chops.
