We travelled from out of state for a birthday dinner celebration, it was our first time dining. We arrived about a half hour early but the staff seated us immediately even though they were busy. After some discussion and being introduced to our server, Jerri, I shared I have a mushroom and truffle intolerance and get very ill even in the smallest capacity. We reviewed plate recommendations and about 5 minutes of waiting, we had the beef carpaccio appetizer arrive to our table which we didn t order. I had sent it back assuming it may have been a mistake. Nope it was a gift! Not long after our pasta and steak arrived. Jerri took care to make sure it was sauced and sliced appropriately. The filet was perfectly cooked and melted in your mouth. The pasta was slightly too al dente for my liking but had fantastic flavor. I started to notice myself getting nauseous and having stomach pains. Jerri came over able to tell something was wrong and i asked to have her clarify with the kitchen that there wasn t any mushrooms in the demi glace. Unfortunately, the stock was made with them. The entire team was incredibly apologetic and notified me right away so I was able to tend to myself and get what I could out of my system and take some benadryl. After settling my stomach some, Jerri came over and insisted she bring me another meal on them that I could enjoy at another time. It didn t stop there, however. My husband was offered a delicious passion fruit dessert for his birthday. And again the kindness and apologies continued and I could tell they truly felt bad about the experience. When going to pay for our bill, they comped the entire meal without being asked. We were blown away! I ve never had an exposure occur at a restaurant and be treated so nicely. I did ask to be charged at least a small amount so I could leave a good tip. As we exited, the manager handed us his card and was kind enough to let us connect with him the next time we dine. Fantastic job, team, thank you.

My partner and I were extremely excited to try Mister Charles after hearing so many great things about it. We confirmed our 9:30 Saturday reservation, arrived five minutes early, and still had to wait over 35 minutes for our table. To make matters worse, we saw guests who arrived after us being seated before us. This is completely unacceptable and makes no sense. After we finally got to our table, we waited over 15 minutes for someone to come and take our drink order. The food may have been good, but the overall experience was utterly ruined by the absurd waiting times. This is not how a fine dining establishment should treat its guests. To top it all off, there was a roach crawling on the floor, and I spent the entire night nervous it would crawl across my feet. I will most certainly not be returning and cannot recommend this place to anyone.

After two above and beyond visits, there are some truly impressive things happening here. The starting foie gras and citrus cracker is a bite of perfect. The calabrian carpaccio dish was excellent. The current menu includes a fresh scarpinocc pasta stuffed with truffled ricotta in a garlic cream with honey and toasted hazelnuts that is out of this world amazing. The passion fruit entremet easily ranks among the best desserts Ive tasted, with bright, tangy layers of pistachio, passion fruit, and mango encased in coconut mousse. Menu offerings are creative yet easily approachable, with balanced, complex flavors. The salads, too, are refreshingly well crafted. The wine list is incredibly robust with deep regional categorization. Our server (Chris) caught all the details without imposing, and even made arrangements for us to receive an item that he heard us mention in passing. We have not tried the steak options, but honestly, with so many uniquely stacked offerings in the canape, appetizer, salad, house made pasta, and fish sections, were likely to stick with enjoying their truly differentiated offerings. If you love surprisingly clever bites, this kitchen will not disappoint. Vegetarian options: Truffled corn beignets, beets and burrata with candied kumquats, arrabiata pasta with broccolini, ricotta stuffed pasta with toasted hazelnuts

I will make a bold statement that I stand behind 100%. This was possibly one of the best dining experiences Ive ever had. I ve traveled a lot and Im from New York so that says a lot. Walking in-Southern Elegance meets European opulence. Walking in is bright with beautiful high ceilings and a staircase leading up to something I wanted to be a part of but I didn t know what lol. To the left was a dark sexy room of mahogany walls and varying chandeliers and candelabras (a real candelabra with actual flame-nice touch). Sexy nooks and booths throughout the entire restaurant. Perfect for any occasion, romance, client dinner, girls night..it all works. I had booked the reservation on RESY from NY for 7:30-foolishly forgetting it would be 830 here in Dallas. The hostess was so kind and accommodating and was able to get us seated-phew. Seamlessly we were seated before I was even able to finish my drink at the bar (they transferred the tab to the table! Unheard of these days-Ill get back to this*). The bar is beautiful and the bartenders are pleasant attentive and very uniformly well dressed. From the time we sat till the time we left was pure culinary perfection-both in service and food. The SERVICE though-wow-just wow-Tanya, she was a standout gem. Everyone knew the dishes and was able to describe them perfectly-they cared about what the chef/owners/support staff created and it showed. This is important to me because I always love to see staff that are actually proud of where they work and this was indisputable. The FOOD .ok, canapés are a must! The truffle grilled cheese, the sirloin, the foie gras-little bites of perfection. Appetizer: The beef carpaccio was elevated (typically it s boring with Evoo and arugula and shaved parm) not here-horseradish drizzle, chilis..the beef was melt in your mouth. Entrees- Truffle Scarpinocc, homemade stuffed with ricotta-hazelnuts added the most perfect crunch. Despite what you would assume would be an overly rich dish-it was light and airy. Truffle Chicken Roulade was perfectly cooked-crispy skin on the chicken, decedent sauce poured over by our server. Melt in your mouth (I m not one for chicken at a restaurant but this changed me). The lamb loin, also roulade style, also with its own darling little sauce-barely needed to chew it-it was perfect. With each bite of everything we needed to pause for a moment and look at each other. Dessert. I am a pastry chef ( retired now ) and usually very picky and seldom order dessert but with a meal like this I needed to see how it all came together. Passionfruit Entremet with pistachio and coconut. Just get it. It was soft and sweet but had a crunch and burst of flavor-kudos to the pastry chef, this dessert was cared for and crafted. Not to be missed. It was a work of art. We learned after speaking to Tanya that they havnt been open that long-I was shocked. My first reaction was wow, the owners are doing it right. She described the training as thorough and cared for. It was nice to hear the interaction and level of respect that the owners seems to have with their staff and it SHOWS. *Tips are pooled. I usually raise and eyebrow on this but after experiencing this meal-it makes sense. Everyone wants to work there and work for the restaurant and if tips are pooled it creates and overall unity among staff and that was APPARENT. Run don t walk-thank you Dallas, thank you Mister Charles. I texted a friend from the table back in NY and said I d fly back here just to have dinner here and come home . Can t wait to see you again soon!!!!!

Absolutely beautiful dining room 3-Story carfully designed. Everyone one was nice, with great attitude.. The food was delicious, they really take care of the details, every bite was a good experience. It was worth the fight to get a reservation, although cocktails werent good at all, super soft almost no alcohol and with a lot of sugar, they look beautiful on pictures but thats it. The noise contamination was really high around 9pm, a lot of people everyone talking loud, you cant enjoy a casual conversation wihtout screeming, also bad for a romatic dinner, and you cant hear the music if there was anything, if I visit again I will make sure it would be on a low-attendance time, I want to try again that Wagyu steak ;)

We went here for dessert to celebrate our anniversary after a really disappointing dinner at Petra & the Beast. Geri was our waitress and asked what brought us in. We mentioned why we landed there and we were just looking for a more celebratory vibe. We ordered a cocktail and two desserts. Promptly received the drinks (delicious) and then several servers brought out every. single. dessert. on. the. menu! They also took a Polaroid picture to commemorate the evening. The desserts were so good and they really made us feel special. The atmosphere was energetic and positive. We will definitely be going back. Highly recommend this place for a special occasion or for just dessert if your experience elsewhere was terrible like ours. :)

Mister Charles sets out to be a step above. While the ambiance is excellent and the food is generally good there are still opportunities. The food could all have been a little warmer, the Wellingtons ratio of puff pastry was a little high and the prosciutto slightly overpowered the dish, and the service while good wasnt perfect, bringing drinks to the wrong person, mis ordering number of canapés, etc. Im glad I went to Mister Charles as Im a big fan of the Duro group but Sister and The Charles definitely shine above.

I wanted to like this place, it had a lot of potential, but there were too many negatives for me to recommend this place to anyone. Getting seated was very quick, the hostess introduced us to our server and off we went to our table. The service overall was pretty good, but at times felt absent. The place in the restaurant that we were sat in felt like it was trying to be a nightclub, the lights were dimmed (not a bad thing) and the music so loud that everyone had to yell to each other to try to have a conversation, this added to the noise and took away a lot from the experience before even placing an order. We placed our order and anxiously awaited our food, the kitchen seemed well organized as our food arrived in a respectable amount of time. We ordered the carbonara, filet mignon, strip steak, pommes alligot, and broccolini. Starting with the carbonara, I wouldn t even call the pasta dish a carbonara aside from it having a creamy sauce, they added some type of vinegar or acidic sauce that distracted from the flavor and was generally unpleasant, the pasta itself was well cooked though. From there the meats were quite good, however the sauces and sides were way over salted, I couldn t stand more than one bite of the accompanying salad to my filet mignon as all I could taste was salt, the sauce that accompanied the filet was very fatty but wasn t that bad. The Pommes Alligot were nothing more than mashed potatoes, my wife and I were very excited about the potatoes as Pommes Alligot is one of our favorite things to get in Paris, the Pommes Alligot here are nothing more than a loose mashed potato with creme fresh, not even a hint of cheese, let alone the super stretchy ultra rich Pommes Alligot that you would find in France. The broccolini was fine, nothing special, and my wife s strip steak was good, but as I shared about the filet the meats are prepared well. This place is no where near worth the price they charge for the food. Our bill came to $260 before tipping with no drinks or dessert, a good step further price wise from other competing places that do much better in terms of service and food quality. I d recommend taking your money elsewhere.

I was let down across the board by the service (wrong orders, forgotten appetizers, no refills on drinks). The food was good but for the price I expect to taste something memorable. I thought this was supposed to rival Dallass more established restaurants like the mansion or Bobs steakhouse. To me the latter is the clear superior. I see why it is so hard to get into this place! I usually make reservations way in advance, but I only had 3 weeks until my Dallas trip and there were no reservations for a party of 2 on a Saturday to be had. I kept checking everyday the week of and luckily I have Global Access on Resy so I setup a notification. On the morning of, I was notified of availability! My persistence paid off and it was well worth the effort. When you enter you are immediately taken in by the beautiful renaissance decor, the flowers , the vibe and the music! What I also did not know is that they have a dark side and a white side. After taking our tour with one of the hostesses, she explained to us that its a play on the two owners as one is quiet and reserved while the other is light, fun and bubbly. The sides have been dubbed the devil and the angel. If you are on a date, I think the devil (dark) side is appropriate. Due to the fact that I was with a girlfriend, we requested the angel (light) side and were accommodated thanks to Tammy. Speaking of the staff, they were wonderful and it is obvious that management takes a lot of pride in making sure that they were trained well. Yann was our waiter and was very attentive throughout our dining experience. We started with Airmail drinks which is a nice rendition of the French 75. For apps, we had the tuna crudo and corn beignets that were both excellent. If I had to choose between the two, the tuna crudo would be my pick. For our main meal, we split the carbonara with added shaved truffles as well as a side of the pommes aligote. Our main meal was incredible but sadly, we were too stuffed to order dessert. I will definitely be back and will make sure to not only try the dover sole, but also save room for dessert.

TL;DR - All the classy ambiance of a prestigious, old country club but with trendy, adventurous cuisine! Truly the best of both worlds, right in the heart of Dallas. My friends (a group of eight) and I went here for the first time to celebrate a birthday, and we now find ourselves bullying the next birthday girl to host her party here as well. The first thing that astonished us was the decor - it is such a classy place and the attention to detail here is impeccable. Considering the building its in is a historic landmark (an old soda shop), I like how that history was preserved. Considering how much its ambiance screamed old values, however, I was impressed to find such a diverse menu. Almost everything was a staple of fine dining places like this, but with a small modern twist. For example, instead of having a French 75 cocktail, they have an Airmail - a derivation of the 75 that uses rum and honey instead of gin and sugar. Instead carbonara made with pork, they use uni! It was a wonderful way of enjoying something you already liked, while still adventuring into new territory. In addition to all of this, I found this place extremely moderately priced for the service and food we received. I had 2 cocktails, split an appetizer with a friend, and an entrée, and with a 20% tip that totaled to be around $100. RECOMMENDATION: I m not sure how often they change around the menu, but if the Uni Carbonara is still there and you have no allergies to its ingredients, you would be a FOOL to not try it. One of the best pasta dishes I ve ever had! NOTE: There are three main dining areas; a downstairs area to the left of entering, a downstairs area directly in front of entrance (with a lofted ceiling), and an upstairs area for private parties, I believe. The first downstairs area is noticeably quieter, but a lot darker than the other side. Be mindful of that when seating is picked, considering which sense you prioritize - hearing or sight.

The food here is as high quality as you would expect. From the first bite of our appetizer we were blown away. We got the crab cake and the corn and truffle beignets to start., which were both of our favorite parts of the meal. We split the lamb Wellington which was perfectly cooked and the pastry around it was light and crispy. We definitely will be back to try more of what they have to offer!

Such fun! Way more relaxed than I thought it would be. Loved all that canapés especially the foie geas sandwich and the truffle grilled cheese. Carpaccio was outstanding and different in a great way. Don t miss trying the lobster thermidor. Waitress was on point and very friendly. Only disappointing dish was the baked Alaska. It was meh. The banana portion was brown and tasted old. I would skip it. Parking: Just use the valet.

Everything about the experience was top notch. Service was phenomenal and never were we made to feel like we were rushed. The staff was very educated on wine, drinks and the food. Some of the best cocktails we ve had in awhile, they put small but thoughtful tweaks on drinks and it elevates it. The pasta dishes were good, beef carpaccio was a winnerand so was the Dover sole. The ny strip was really good, better than most steakhouses. The only miss was the lamb but I think that was more our own palette than anything.

Used the Resy notification feature to get an 8pm reservation for 2 on a Thursday while spending a couple nights in the Arts District. Seated at window along Knox St side and beside bar so not optimal. Cocktails were delicious -- Penicillin and Turnover Sour. The food was fantastic except for the egg salad canape which was bland/soggy. Enjoyed the salmon canape, crab cake and Caesar salad (very lemon/acid forward but good) appetizers, and Scallops and Texas Wagyu strip entrees, pommes side and chocolate dessert. The steak was plentiful and good but it was the sauce that kept me coming back for more bites almost to the point of skipping dessert which would have been a mistake because it was a fantastic finish. Valet is compd with a code, you just have to navigate/u-turn so you are on Travis heading towards Knox St to get to the Valet station.

A beautiful spot for a special occasion dinner! My husband and I sat at the intimate (4 seat) bar on the dark/ moody side of the restaurant with Jennifer and had a great time. We tried one of each of the canapes - the A5 strip bite was legit. My husbands favorites were the oyster and the salmon tart, mine was the caviar and egg salad!! Skip the foi gras for a second of something else. We also enjoyed the blue fin crudo and prime rib carpaccio- both delish. Baked Alaska for dessert and we were set! For cocktails we started with Crime of Passion and Airmail- both tasty. Then we let Jennifer make some of her own creations for us, which were also awesome! The managers Michael and Nehemiah were super professional, hospitable, and knowledgeable. The space is absolutely gorgeous. Will definitely be back!

Great service and atmosphere. Call it a Monday night, but the food suffered. Katherine was a fantastic waitress. The canapes were ice cold. Whatever flavor they had was lost to ice. Yet still the deviled egg with caviar shown. Again, the carpaccio was so cold that there was not much flavor, except that provided by the mustard seed and caper. You couldnt taste any meat. As much because it was too cold as there were too many overriding flavors. Carpaccio should stand on its own, without much accompaniment, unless the meat is bad. The scallops were perfectly cooked and the accompaniments spot on, except there was grit (sand?) In the dish that spoiled it. My husband had the swordfish. The preparation and side salad were great. But the fish was so fishy it was inedible. Swordfish is not a fishy fish. Monday night? No fresh fish deliveries. I loved the atmosphere and service. Hope they fix these problems so that the food lives up to the elegant location.

Several immediate comments: 1) Gentleman - wear a dinner jacket. 2) Why? The vibe and the cachet demand it. Upon entering you are greeted by a gentleman in suite and tie, and shown to your table or seat at the bar. The interior space soars to an atrium decor reminiscent of the galleria in Milano. The walls are Venetian polished plaster with chandelier lighting. As a long time resident nearby I mourned the loss of the HP Pharmacy but love its reincarnation into this new dining and tippling spot. We started out with Canapés - deviled egg lightly topped with caviar and foie gras with marmalade gently spooned on top. The beef carpaccio was done as originated from Venice - beef very and I mean very thinly sliced with lemon, olive oil, salt and pepper, mustard seed but also capers and crumbs of shallot fries on top. Marvelous. The scallops and swordfish were cooked perfectly. Scallops were tender - taken off the heat just before being completely firm allowing them to become silky soft in the mouth. The tandoori swordfish was charred - true to tandoori inspired dishes. Then as a complimentary surprise we were served a side dish of pomme aligote - whipped mashed potatoes with Comte cheese subtly blended in. Martinis and other cocktails are served with a flourish of table side add ons. Wait staff were like how children should be at an adult party - seen but not heard. They appeared exactly when we needed something but never otherwise.

As other reviewers have noted, service is rushed to the point of comedy - waitstaff asked three times to remove our appetizer plates, and finally took them as I still had the fork in my mouth on final bite. Lack of knowledge on when to pour wine resulted in my spouse having an overfilled wine glass. Clearly the staff was given no education on how to conduct service in fine dining. Carpaccio had a single note - horseradish, with no subtlety or enjoyment of the meat flavor. Tasted like they were trying to cover up bad meat. Pasta duck confit was similarly single note - salt. The sauce wasn t distributed in a way to make it enjoyable, and was rather flat. Lamb Wellington was well presented. Bananas foster was a spin on a classic. Generally disappointing.

I had high expectations and was not let down. Let me start by saying that the gentleman at Duro Hospitality continue to outdo themselves. They rarely miss the mark and they are getting bolder and more creative with each new restaurant. Mister Charles is new to the scene but definitely one of the best places in town. As a foodie, it makes me excited to be in Dallas. The ambiance and service are top notch. They pay such close attention to every detail. I love that the server talks about the history of the building. The interior is cozy yet luxurious. It s not too loud so you can enjoy conversation with friends and strangers alike. The wait staff are welcoming, knowledgeable and helpful. I got a simple gin martini to start and it was fantastic. As for appetizers, the flavors of the blue fin crudo were fresh and bright. The corn and truffle beignets were also delightful. The truffle duck berlingot was well-balanced and the carbonara was not too heavy, but packed with flavor. I live in Texas, so I ve eaten a lot of steaks, but I think their Wagyu New York strip was the best steak I ve ever had. The creamed spinach and pommes aligote were creamy and delicious additions. For dessert, we sampled the baked Alaska and soda fountain sundae, an homage to the building s history. Both were okay, nothing life-changing. Overall, one of the best dining experiences I ve had to date in Dallas, nay Texas.

We went to Mister Charles 26 days after it opened and it simultaneously felt brand new and also like a well oiled machine that had been in the neighborhood for decades. The service and food are top notch in Dallas. Food is pricey, but worth it and portions are good sized. My wife and I split the New York strip and it was great for 2 people (as most of the meats and fish seem to be splittable or shareable). The cool thing about the menu is that most of the dishes are unique takes on old classics. I don t know where else you can get duck confit ravioli or lamb Wellington. The ribeye and New York strip were cooked perfectly and the sauces in each were really good and not overpowering. The desserts were excellent - we got all 4 and I d get all 4 again if I went again tonight. Service is what you expect from a Duro Hospitality establishment: water glasses are never empty, drink orders are filled immediately, food comes at a good pace, and they clean off your table between every course. I expect this place to vie for top restaurant in Dallas moving forward and look forward to dining here on special occasions!

Upon walking into the restaurant, we were enthusiastically greeted by the hostesses and immediately felt welcome. The space is beautiful with the room split into two different personalities - bright and airy on the right as you walk in and then on the left, dim lights and dark wood. It feels impressive but comfortable. Service was very friendly but not without issue. We ordered drinks first and my husbands wine was brought to be table right away while I had to wait about fifteen minutes for my cocktail to arrive. We expressed that we wanted to order canapes and an appetizer first and pick our entrees later on but our server assured us they would course out the meal. This turned out to be a mistake as there were only two to three minutes between each course. We didnt feel overtly rushed but, minus the delay with my drink, the entire three courses and payment of our bill totaled an hour. We arent the types to camp out at our table all night but some time to relax and digest between courses would have been appreciated (and quite frankly, expected). We started with oysters and the foie gras croquette. The oysters were quite good while the croquette was just okay. Our appetizer was the corn and truffle beignets which were absolutely delicious, creamy with just the right touch of truffle. Next, my husband had the excellent scallops. They were plump with a good sear (not sure about you but mushy scallops are a pet peeve) and overall, it was a well composed dish. The au Poivre sauce on my New York Strip was wonderful, it really complemented the steak well. Although I asked for it to be cooked medium rare, almost the entire steak was rare except for the ends. It didnt occur to me that my steak would not be cooked properly at a restaurant of this caliber and it was a bit disappointing. Im glad we went and we had a good time but ultimately, the improperly cooked steak and the speed of our meal were big detractors from the overall experience.

We have dined at Mr. Charles 5 times in the last 2 weeks. The reason is that the whole experience is fabulous. The only place to compare is The Charles also in Dallas. The menu is diverse and covers every culinary desire. The Dover sole was perfection...as was the wagyu strip steak. There are many appetizers and all of them have been excellent. The egg salad bite with caviar to the A5 bite. The crab cake was great and a touch different presentation which was so fun to try and awesome. The duck pasta was great and the perfect bite type of dish....as is the Arrabbiata pasta dish. The lamb Wellington was unbeleivably great. We did not have one thing that was not fabulous in all 5 visits down to the baked Alaska last night and the coconut cream dessert is as good as my grandmothers coconut cream pie. So...the staff.....from booking with Nicolette...to our server....Hannah....managers Alika, Michael, and Neiamiah...we have come to know many people there and all have one goal which is to make sure our experience was fabulous...and it was....all 5 times in 2 weeks. I would say we have given this restaurant quite a try and it not only passed with flying colors but surpassed any expectations we could have had and we are frequent diners in Dallas. It is a beautiful neighborhood place and so happy to have it in our neighborhood.

Fun and very Dallas crowd, but the food wasn t any good. So much salt in the carpaccio and duck pasta. The foie canapé was very light on the foie and basically an awkward tiny cookie with jam. The baked Alaska was terrible. Same for the cauliflower. Such a limited menu, and it was all pretty bad (except for the very expensive A5 strip loin bite). Bar was competent but nothing special. They might improve (and seem attentive to the quality/guests feedback), but I can t believe they opened in this shape. The buzz is going to wear off rapidly unless something changes very soon. Also, the space isn t nearly as nice in person as in photos. But it s definitely worse on the dark side, where many of the tables are. Low ceiling and generally charmless.

I had an incredible dinner at Mister Charles tonight. From the second I walked in the door I felt like I was their top priority. Great cocktails, great menu, the staff has great insight into their favorites. Whole experience was 5/5. Can t wait to go back. Parking: Valet on Travis, some parking on the street

From the moment you walk in, you know dinner is going to be good. All the staff are sharply dressed and look ready to give you top notch service. The interior is gorgeous with chandeliers, a beautiful bar, intimate booths, visible kitchen, and I loved all the plants for a fresh feel. We started with cocktails and every single one we had was great and a unique spin on the classics. From martinis to manhattans, there is something for everyone s palate. We coursed out our meal and started with the canapés. I wanted one of everything for myself but restrained myself. The foie gras was my favorite delectable bite. The crab cakes were delectable with an awesome accompanying salad and my mother said it was her favorite bite of the night. The crudo with ahi tuna was fantastic with some spice I really appreciated. The pasta is made in-house and you can really taste the love. My hubby doesn t really care for pasta but he LOVED our pasta dish that was actually vegetarian. The sauce was a spicy tomato that was bright and perfect acidity to complement the accompanying shells stuffed with cheese. For our main courses, we had the NY strip and scallops to make it a surf and turf. We opted for the potatoes, spinach with black garlic, and tandoori cauliflower as our sides. Each dish on its own was delicious. I m not sure the cauliflower paired well with the other dishes we ordered, but it was still a fantastic bite. Even though we were stuffed, we still made room for dessert. My mother loved her coconut cake with lemon sorbet. I think I won the dessert battle with the chocolate pot au creme topped with espresso. This place is a solid option for a nice dinner whether it be for a date, special occasion, or even a group. We can t wait to go back!
