Komodo Dallas

About the Company

rating: 3.5

Komodo Dallas is the second branch of Komodo, Groot Hospitality’s renowned Southeast Asian-inspired restaurant in Miami. Located in the Epic Development, Komodo Dallas features an ultra-contemporary exterior facade that gives way to an inviting indoor-outdoor flow. The restaurant takes visual cues from its homebase, including Komodo’s signature illuminated “bamboo” cutout columns and duck display windows. From there, pops of saturated color are added, such as with the lounge’s eye-catching wallpaper and a dramatic fabric-draped corridor. Komodo Dallas spans two stories and seats up to 274 diners across tabletop, booth and bar seats.

Choose to be a nightclub or a high end restaurant you can t do both. Paying over $100 a person and not being able to have a conversation without screaming is ridiculous. Food was the price I would pay at a high end restaurant with great food and a plethora of menu choices. service was great but Flavor was lacking I will say the fried rice side was delicious but the duck wasn t $90 duck and the Korean fried chicken was way too tangy. Overall would not come back and definitely wouldn t pay $100+ per person.

Ridiculous isn t bad enough to qualify my experience at this restaurant. We got there 15 minutes before our time and waited an extra 30 minutes to get a table where there are 2 ceilings fans right above us and it s already freezing and then a huge butterfly flew on my food and just stay there like seriously if you don t have a table don t take reservations there are just too many restaurants to go to and the waitress was like we don t have any tables so we were forced to stay where we were and because of the butterfly on my food we just left. Won t be going there even if I get paid.ill stick to Eddie s V.the food is better and the service is always amazing

Have given this place multiple times to see if it would be better. Service is awful. Food is mediocre especially for the price. I never post reviews but something needs to change if they want to make it. These 5 star reviews are clearly paid people because everyone I know that has gone there says the exact same thing.

Food was tasty but my server forgot to put my entree order in and claimed, their system was rebooting and asked me an additional time what I had ordered. They eventually brought my entree and the complimentary edamame out towards the end of my dining experience then told me I couldnt take it home because its buffet style. They threw away an entire untoched entree and the side dish. Food waste isnt cool, at least box it up and give it to someone in need.

Incredibly rude workers. We were on my friends list for his concert and treated terribly, got shoved by the bouncer to the right of the stage multiple times. Clearly a lack of communication between management and workers. If going on list equals that treatment, no way I m ever going on a regular night.

We made a reservation for 10pm, showed up on time and ready for our table. The hostess was nice and told us they were very busy and we could wait and get drinks at the bar. I stood at the bar for about 30 minutes, calling the bartender and never received any service. It was clear they overbooked the venue, and i m extremely disappointed in the costumer service i received. i have been visiting komodo for years and i will most likely not be returning after this.

SEE PHOTOS ATTACHED! While at Komodo, the food is good and the wait staff is nice. However, the general managers and HR team are horrendous. While there last weekend, we were stuck in the elevator for 45 minutes and we found out from the fire department after many failed attempts of reaching the outside the only way they found out was from our 911 calls. The restaurant didnt call 911 ONCE. Overall incompetence. The epitome of stupidity not to assume that 15 people were stuck in their elevator. Additionally, the elevator didnt have a call button to the outside. Up to regulations? I think not. Horrible management team .

Be prepared to spend coin for the full experience! Dinner service was fantastic, our server recommended drinks, gave a tour of the menu, and perfectly served each course so the table stayed full. The cocktail drinks were unique and delicious - not too sweet (which I prefer), although I highly recommend sharing a bottle or two of sake from their superior collection. Highly recommend the Peking duck and the omakase platter (not on the menu, ask the server)! The omakase was a high quality variety of raw fish, and reasonably priced considering you get to try almost all of the fish on the menu. The pecking duck was phenomenal! My only complaint is I wish someone had shown us how to properly eat the duck that is served traditionally with pancakes. No big deal, the duck was still amazing and the whole duck fed 5-6 people. Overall the food was fantastic, I think each item is a classy version of a comfort dish, and all have unique finishes. The wagyu was cooked to perfection, and worth every bite. The restaurant was packed for a weekday, but the tables were roomy and felt private. This is an upscale take on a family style menu, so don t bring picky eaters if they aren t ready to share. Sharing everything made the price worth it, we each got to try everything that we wanted. Parking: Epic Center Parking garage

Surprised my wife with a birthday dinner here on a Saturday night. (Not once was this acknowledged by the way). Valet upon arrival was pretty efficient and was just $10 when you pick up the car, no issues there. Checked in with the hostess and was made aware they would come and get us once the table was ready and we could wait at the bar so we headed there. There were no seats but an employee saw us waiting and offered 2 drinks at the lounge upstairs and began to escort us but as we walked past the hostess stand they let us know our table was ready but we could still go to the lounge after. Once seated our server greeted us to take drinks and was back a few moments later for the order where he did a good job explaining the menu items. Drinks took quite some time to arrive followed by the surf & turf maki roll. The sushi was OUTSTANDING and the drinks were good too. We then had the General Tso s Quail, surf and turf fried rice, and Szechuan Brussels Sprouts which we quite enjoyed as well. However it was at least another hour and a half before we saw our server again. We never got to order another drink or had our waters refilled. Luckily we enjoyed the food because if we had any issues there would be no one to tell. After finishing and still not having seen the waiter we flagged down a runner for the check and another employee with an ear piece brought the check. (Very reasonable might I add). Another 10 minutes and our server reappeared to take our payment. We ventured upstairs to check out the lounge and collect on our comp cocktails mentioned earlier, danced a bit, and then left. Overall we can say we ve been and may give the brunch a try down the line but the service here is lacking and needs work.

Food is flavorful and the ambience is very nice. However the service is where this place seems to struggle. This past Sunday night was slower than usual compared to previous visits and the service was still poor. The bartender did not tend to us for over 20 minutes while we waited to be sat and there were maybe 4 other guests at the bar. She continued to hold side conversations with other employees and guests instead of serving us. We finally were sat about 35 minutes after our reservations despite how slow it was. The bartender still managed to take over 45 minutes to get our drinks out and still somehow messed them up. She continuously left the bar and always had an annoyed look on her face. Even our server was talking negatively about the bartender with another employee. For the price you re paying you d expect a decent drink.

Went to brunch. Dim sum style buffet, brunch at $72 a piece. Wife got drink package which is $30 unlimited deinks (spicy Paloma or mimosa variant). You get one entree and unlimited small bites like gyoza, dumplings, spare ribs, etc. Comes with one entree too. Sounds like a decent idea. Komodo at brunch sucked bc the service sucked. Wasn t busy enough to have forgot drinks, food, utensils, etc. My friend and I ordered tequila sodas but received ranch waters. We didnt send them back. My friends gf didnt receive her champagne based drink until 45 min in. Food quality was cool but really like going to a 30-50 dollar buffet. It wasn t Wynn quality but I paid more than Wynn. My wagyu burger was mid.Collectively with the ingredients it was OK, but the burger patty itself was a red flag situation. Im always skeptical if a burger has predefined grill marks on it. Also, we couldnt box our entrée food to go bc it was apart of the buffet. I get it but the server shouldve realized how many times he dropped the ball and accommodated something. $200+ on mid is unacceptable. I couldve went to Monarch. My wife said the dinner experience was better. Good to say I ve gone but wont be back.

If you re a certain person used to 5 start service for certain prices don t go to Komodo. We had brunch on Sunday and it was $72/person. I expected everything to be on point for that price but we literally had to have someone go find our waitress EVERYTIME we needed something. She had a bad attitude when she did serve us. The food and drinks were mediocre at best. They had no toilet paper in most stalls and NO paper towels to dry your hands ZERO and we paid $72 per person. Also I ve never been to an establishment that charges an automatic 20% gratuity for a party of 5. It doesn t say that in their website but we re told it s policy . The worst service EVER!!!! Each of us ended up paying $131 person and forced to leave a $100 tip to a waitress that didn t deserve it. If you go there for brunch you are just going to contribute toward their rent otherwise it s not worth it at all!! There were 5 of us and needless to say not a single person in my group will go back to Komodo again. Horrible experience and service for exorbitant prices.

The atmosphere was great, and I was excited about their brunch, but I was left very disappointed. For the $150+ we spent per head (including the drinks package and brunch buffet), the food and service were of very poor quality. The warm food offered at the buffet was cold and lacked flavor. They ran out of sangria, and despite the bottomless cocktail package, no substitutions were offered. Since I dont like mezcal, my only options were seltzers or the sparkling wine, which tasted awful like vinegar, very low-budget. To make matters worse, they didn t even provide cutlery, expecting us to eat chicken and waffles and steak and eggs with chopsticks. After asking six times for cutlery, they finally gave us a knife 35 minutes after the food was served by which time everything was cold. Additionally, they didn t clear our plates after the buffet, and the DJ had to remove our menus. The service was very poor overall.

The server disappeared and was no where to be found. When he picked up the dishes, he tried supposedly to steal my car keys but i stopped him and he said it was an accident . My water glass was empty so we had to constantly ask for a refill aswell. The tables and seating was crammed so it was hard to sit down. Checks took forever and they even messed up our birthday cake. Terrible service overall. Crazy wait times and charges for even the most minuscule things.

I recently celebrated my birthday at Komodo Dallas with my girlfriends during our first girls trip reunion since college, and the experience was absolutely fantastic! Our waiter, Zane, went above and beyond to make us feel special and celebrated. The general manager, Sergio, was phenomenal and also exceeded our expectations, making this one of the best dining and social experiences weve ever had. We started with some incredible cocktails Fortunes Told, Pikachu, and Pretty Fly for a Cacti were our favorites, but the Dirty Martini was also superb. All cocktails were strong, cold, and incredibly fresh. For appetizers, we tried a variety, and each one was absolutely delicious - our favorites being the steak tacos & the tempura rock shrimp! The classic Rainbow Roll sushi was a standout, showcasing the high quality of their ingredients which is definitely making me look forward to trying their sashimi next. We re already planning our next visit to Komodo and cant wait to explore more of the menu, happy hour, and brunch. Huge thanks to Zane and Sergio for making our celebration so memorable. We love Komodo and will definitely be back! Don t forget to check out the lounge upstairs after dinner! Dietary restrictions: My best friend has a nut allergy and Zane & Sergio confidently explained the menu and her options to her in a way so patient and kind.

Came by because Komodo hosts a sushi master class that people can purchase tickets for. The class was interesting but definitely wished there was more to do since we were only able to make 2 rolls, and those too, were very basic. They lacked any concept of concept of garnishes or intricacy. After the 2 rolls, we were sat for a 3 course omakase. Here, the items were simply alright with nothing to ring home about. Moreover, the service was tiresomely slow. Which is weird, because we d expect the kitchen to be able to get a head start on making stuff, since the 3 course was chef s selection and all the parties from the class were required to have the same items. We ended up paying $250 plus tip. All-in-all, this seems like one of those restaurants that places an emphasis on the vibe and aesthetic rather than the food. Which can definitely be fine for some. It just wasn t for us.

I saw the all you can eat brunch on social media and had to come check it out. The value versus what we got was SO worth it! Being able to choose from all of the buffet selections and selecting one entree per person was more than enough food! And the entrees and buffet items did not disappoint. Everything we had was super tasty. For entrees we had the Shanghai Noodles and Miso King Salmon. We also elected to get the all you can drink option which was another great choice and well worth the money. The decor was really nice and created an elevated experience even walking up to the restaurant. During the brunch buffet they have a DJ. The day we went Jarrod s was the DJ and he s SOOOO good. Would definitely come back whenever he s there. Our server, Nick, was FANTASTIC! He gave great suggestions on the drinks and entrees and was super attentive. I also really appreciated that as brunch started getting busier other servers would help each other out by refilling waters for other people s tables and clear used glassware and plates. I ll definitely be back here and highly recommend this experience to others.

Didnt know what a hamachi roll was, but it was alright, steak tacos were pretty average. My buddy wanted a gin cocktail so this lovely beverage manager named Elizabeth, or maybe it was Liz, said to try this Shiso Fly drink. He enjoyed it. Idk, maybe its cause im older and dont drink anymore, but the place seemed average to me. The A+ goes to the beverage manager who helped my pal. She was the star of the show. Komodo brunch was overrated and overpriced. They require you to choose an entree in order to eat at the buffet, but do not allow you to take the entree to go if you cant finish it. I ended up not touching my entree so it was entirely wasted. Our waiter told us this was because too many people only ate at the buffet. Makes no sense and feels like a frivolous waste of food. For the price there is no reason to not allow a to go container for massive entree portions. The buffet itself was pretty good though, wide selection of sushi and excellent desserts. I wish they had an option to just eat at the buffet. Would not return for these reasons.

We reserved a party of 8, upon arrival we were given a small table that fit 6. Apparently the table was already set up for 6 ppl. They added two more plate and concluded to fit all 8 of us in. After all the foods came out we couldnt fit it all on the table. We ended up pushing some of the dishes together on one plate to accomodate other dishes to fit. Even though I could tell that they were short staffed, you wouldnt have been able to tell with the attention to detail and excellent customer service that I received. I was traveling at the time so I am not sure when I will be able to return, but I do know that throughout all my travels, Elizabeth was, by far, the best bartender I have ever had the pleasure to meet. Thank you for a wonderful experience and I cannot wait to return.

I had the pleasure of coming to Komodo for Sunday Brunch and it was really good! The atmosphere, music and food were all great! The only detractor would be their brunch menu has no pricing; however, they do explain the reason for that when you re at the table. If you re looking to go there for brunch, I d recommend having $95 per person. It s well worth it! (That s the usual price you ll spend for brunch anywhere in DFW really. It does include drinks too.) They have $10 valet as well. Parking is a bit complex here.

Came here for the Sunday brunch. I wanted the king crabs that was advertised on the menu as buffet option. To our disappointment there was none. When I asked they said they didnt serve it today and another one said they ran out. Steak and egg was very salty and you get 5 small pieces. Oh also do not get there still water because they will charge 8 dollars.

I recently visited Komodo Brunch with family and was welcomed by the sounds of a live singer, who brought sunshine to the sky on a rainy day! She was great singing classics to new music with her own spin on them all. I m not a big fan of buffets however somehow to food placement from a persons breathe to platter seemed like a good distance. The food was great everything from salad to fresh seafood, sushi and sticky ribs was simply amazing. I wish I could remember our waiters name but everyone around was seemingly enjoying their job and having a great day which makes the difference when spending you are out to enjoy family time. I could go on about this place, the decor the open kitchen so simply thank the chefs for their amazing work, the long hallway to the restroom, the attendant there etc Welcome to Dallas Komodo, we will be back!

This place is disguising itself as a restaurant when it wants to be a nightclub that happens to serve food. No issue w/our server - very attentive and pleasant. We came for Fathers Day brunch so it was mostly buffet so server brought drinks and our entrees. Food is okay- nothing that says OMG-I need to come back. My son and his girlfriend ordered the Wagyu beef burger w/pork belly- call it for what it is - a cheeseburger w/bacon. Seriously didnt taste like wagyu beef and the strip of meet didnt have the right qualities to be labeled pork belly- on top of which it was WAY over-seasoned. (Too salty). The entertainment had the volume at full blast so couldnt talk loud enough over the music- not the right ambience or atmosphere for brunch.

When asked about the men who entered wearing shorts, the security guard stated they were wearing pants in an attempt to gaslight us and avoid the conflict of his bias actions. The Bad: We requested high chairs in our reservations and was assured they had enough, but they didnt. One of the chairs was broken and had an exposed bolt. Honestly I love me some live music but the so loud at 430 in the afternoon that we had to yell at each other to talk. The atmosphere was the music not the patrons. He also didnt mix music. It was not aa premium atmosphere as they would suggest in their description and dress code. Kid-friendliness: Not kid friendly.

This is my first time here to celebrate my 60th birthday. I was kind of disappointed. I ordered the Shanghai noodles. I like the texture of the noodles, but the sauce that comes with it was salty. All I can taste is the saltiness, which is overwhelming. The buffet bar was okay, nothing outstanding. Miso soup was bland, with no taste. The only things I enjoyed were the crab claws and a few sushi and the fresh fruits. The ambiance is very nice, but the music was so loud, and its kind of hard to hold a conversation. Overall, I couldnt finish the noodles, and its such a waste to throw the rest away. I wouldnt be coming back.

I brought my family and fiancé here for brunch for a late Mother s Day celebration. I raved about Komodo s food and service from past visits but unfortunately, they didn t have the same experience. We arrived and checked in at 2:25, reservation at 2:30. We were told to wait until the table was ready, which is fine but the wait turned into 45 minutes. We finally got sat at around 3:15. We were also told that a manager would come by - never did Our server was nice and attentive during our whole visit. Once sat, we ordered our food and drinks and then headed to the buffet. The food was pretty good and I liked the options. Entrees arrived very quickly. We ordered miso salmon, steak and eggs, wagyu burger, and Shanghai noodles. The eggs on both orders of steak and eggs were overcooked and the Shanghai noodles were incredibly salty, pretty much inedible. The noodles were sent back and replaced with chicken and waffles, which was really good! The burger and salmon were tasty also. Finally the drinks arrive. Yes, the drinks arrived after our food. Very good cocktails though. Overall, our experience was fine and the vibes were great but we couldn t shake off the long wait at the start of our Komodo experience. For a restaurant of this caliber, that s unacceptable.

I recently dined here that left much to be desired. The service was excruciatingly slow, and to add insult to injury, they had the audacity to tack on a 3% fee that neither the waiter nor manager could explain. The food, sadly, was uninspired, lacking in both flavor and creativity. As if the experience couldnt get any worse, I was shocked to find an attendant with tipping station in the restroom a new low in dining experiences. And lets not forget the cherry on top: a valet service charging $15 plus tip. Needless to say, I wont be returning anytime soon.

We were extremely excited to attend the Sunday Brunch at Komodo Dallas, primarily because they advertised King Crab Legs. We were informed that it was an upscale casual dining experience, so we dressed accordingly and drove 45 minutes to the restaurant despite the scorching 101-degree weather. Upon arrival, the ambiance felt more like a late-night club rather than a brunch setting. It was extremely loud, which was not ideal but manageable. Dining Experience: We were seated and given the menu. After making our selections, we proceeded to the buffet. We started with salads and other items, but when we reached the seafood section, we were very disappointed to find only crab claws and no King Crab Legs as advertised. This was a major letdown since the King Crab Legs were a key reason for choosing this brunch. The overall quality of the food was mediocre. There was nothing special about the offerings. Given the price, we expected much better quality. For instance, the Wagyu burger we ordered lacked flavor and seasoning. The King Salmon we ordered was overly glazed with miso, making it overly sweet and barely edible. The portion was also disappointingly small, resembling a four-ounce piece of sushi. Service: The service was subpar. Our waitress was not attentive or helpful. She didnt check on us to ask if we were enjoying our meal or if we needed anything. We also had to request basic utensils like spoons and knives, which should have been on the table initially. When I asked another waitress for these items, she seemed surprised that our waitress hadnt provided them. Concerns: The biggest concern is the false advertisement. Promoting King Crab Legs and then offering only crab claws is misleading and poor business practice. Additionally, there was no butter or warm butter available for the claws, which further detracted from the experience. Conclusion: Overall, our experience at Komodo Dallas for brunch was disappointing. The loud atmosphere, mediocre food, poor service, and false advertising regarding the King Crab Legs left us dissatisfied. For the price, we expected a much higher quality dining experience. We do not recommend this brunch based on our experience.

Celebrating my wifes birthday at Komodo Dallas turned out to be the best decision ever, surpassing all expectations and making for an unforgettable evening. We even cancelled our reservations at RH to come here instead, and it was absolutely worth it. The ambiance was exceptional, providing a stylish and inviting atmosphere perfect for a special occasion. We started our meal with the Japanese Milk Bread, which was simply astonishing. Each bite was a delightful surprise, setting a high standard for the rest of the evening. We also sampled the Korean Shortrib Jerky and O Toro, both of which were excellent choices that showcased the restaurants flair for unique and flavorful dishes. For the main course, I chose the Szechuan NY Steak with matchstick fries. The steak was so delicious that I devoured it quickly and found myself wishing I could order another round. The meal was capped off with a beautifully decorated dessert, thoughtfully presented by the wonderful servers, adding a perfect touch to our celebration. Komodo Dallas impressed us with its excellent food, superb ambiance, and outstanding service. Some are too close to others, some are in random parts that feel like they re in the middle of the walkway. We had to ask to be moved to a better spot and we clearly weren t alone in the sentiment because 10 minutes later another couple arrived, saw the table s location, and asked to be moved as well. I saw this happen a couple times through dinner in various spots because some of the tables are just placed so weird. It s not a huge deal but something to think about. Also, the music gets progressively louder after 9 PM so don t plan to have any meaningful dinner conversations lol

I didnt like that restaurant policy gave us only 1,5 hour for dining. On my Saturday night I do not like thinking I am limited with time. Like someone is trying to get rid of you. It is not ethical. After dinner we went Komodo Lounge for dancing. I was a bit disappointed. Bartender could not make Aperol Spritz, Mohito and another popular coctails. DJ Godly defenetly is not my DJ. I do not like rap music. But it is not always like that. Last time we had great experience in Komodo lounge, this time we were not so lucky. I would recommend this place, but make sure you like music if you came to dance.

If you order drink is at the bar, just know that you will be charged an extra 23% for a lounge service fee . I asked the bartender what that was and she said it was gratuity already added in. I m okay with that as long as you are transparent about what you re doing. It should say gratuity included when you receive the bill. They are being shady AF by trying to get customers to tip extra on top of the 23% by being deceptive.
