Trinity River Audubon Center

About the Company

rating: 4.6

Trinity River Audubon Center is located just ten miles south of downtown Dallas, but you'll feel a world away. Our center is your gateway to explore the amazing resources of the 6,000-acre Great Trinity Forest, the largest urban hardwood forest in the United States. The center supports Audubon's mission: To protect birds and the places they need, today and tomorrow. Get to know a diverse community of plant and animal species and our unique mixture of bottomland hardwood forest, wetland, and prairie habitat. A part of the City of Dallas-Trinity River Corridor Project, the center's 130 acres sit on a former illegal dump site, now a reclaimed haven for a vast array of birds and other wildlife in an increasingly urbanized metropolitan area.

Beautiful nature center with an interesting history. It used to be a dump, literally, until it was abandoned and eventually acquired by the city, which cleaned it up and turned it into a visitor center. You can see tons of different wildlife, walk the trails and spot great flora and mushrooms too. Lots of shade but bring a hat because there is lots of sun too. Parts of it get flooded or very muddy when it rains, and parking is plentiful. There is a gift shop and a small cafe. Restrooms are always clean. They have a classroom area where they have art or science classes on some weekends. Fun for the whole family, but no dogs allowed. Free entry but they recommend you reserve tickets online ahead of time due to limited entry.

Oh, City of Dallas, Im so proud of you. This area of town was once.... a dump. But now it is stunningly gorgeous. Wood pathways to walk in and out of the native trees, flora and fauna. Such a peaceful, tranquil place. Includes small museum and gift shop. Staff at the front desk are well informed and friendly. This is a fabulous place.

My son and I drove from Garland to enjoy a nice day outdoors with just me and him, since he is graduating this year and going to college in the fall. I have Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy and use a power chair. I checked before we left to see if the facility and the trails were ADA accessible and the website indicated that this was the case. When we arrived, however, we discovered that this is not entirely true. I cannot drive my wheelchair so my son was trying to navigate the big doors that open and drive my wheelchair in at the same time. There is no wheelchair entrance. Thankfully other guests were willing to hold the doors open for us. We were greeted by one friendly young man at the front desk and I inquired about a map of their Ada accessible trails, but he told me that unfortunately they did not have any maps. We went further into the center and none of the TV displays were on, the make a river feature was broken, as well as many of the other features. We circle around to the gift shop and there was no one in there to assist us in many of the prices were not marked on the items that we were considering for purchase. The center itself was a disappointment and could have been so much better. We went down the Wetland trails because the boardwalk was ADA accessible and at the end you can go left or right. We went down the left side and it circled around and then there was a large drop-down to the trail below which I could not get my wheelchair down. So we decided to Circle back and we looked down the right Trail and it did the same thing. We just went back into the facility walked around the parking lot got in a car and went home. This could have been a much better experience. My son has pictures on his phone which I will add later. I hope to return with all of these things rectified.

Very friendly and welcoming staff. For those who are there to brisk walk, it takes no more than 1 hours to do all the trails. The grounds are nice with a few scenic viewpoints, but much more of the trails should have been converted from dirt trails to wooden walkways. Two days after a mild rainfall, a lot of the trail remained muddy, and puddles were everywhere. Moreover, wooden walkways would make it much easier to see (and thus avoid stepping on) the various insects that were camouflaged by the dirt path. Back inside, several of the interactive exhibits in the visitors center were not working. Hard to recommend the Audubon to walkers not living in the immediate vicinity.

A surprisingly nice place. When U first arrive u might think.... Im at the wrong spot ...and somebody needs to mow. Even once you start walking towards the venue (Parking seems a bit afar) u might think is this asomekind of Government Retention Center.... Idk the concrete or stucco with small rectangular windows placed high seems to remind me of a lockdown facility....anyhow on to the more positive. This place looks the way it does due to its design reflection of a monumental structure I wont spoil for your discovery. The nature center or museum makes a great venue for a wedding of nearly any caliper. My time is running short I will post some pictures. If you have a chance maybe. He k out My Venue on Ft.Gibson Lake in Oklahoma. I do Cosmetic Restoration...of sorts. If you like what u see maybe leave me a good review to help others. We just had our wedding at the Audubon Center and cant say enough good things about working with them. Ashley, our day of coordinator from Boxwood Hospitality (included when you book the TRAC!) was friendly, approachable, helpful, and professional throughout our planning process. When we weren t quite sure what we wanted a particular aspect of our wedding reception to look like, Ashley did a wonderful job of presenting us with options and being patient with us when we were still indecisive! All the staff was attentive, flexible and kind. Ashley in particular did an excellent job collaborating with our friends and family who volunteered to help arrange centerpieces and transport materials to the reception venue. All in all, she made our wedding reception a worry-free and enjoyable experience, which is a true testament to her professionalism and experience. We were so happy to work with the Boxwood/TRAC team and would recommend them to anyone!

I fell in love with The Audubon immediately. The huge windows, the beautiful architecture, the ceiling and walls; every part of this physical space was stunning. Even beyond the gorgeous physical setting, Boxwood and their entire team know what they re doing. The catering, which is through them, was incredible. I have several friends and family with food allergies, and they accommodated everything easily. The food was delicious, and they make everything in such a way that no food is wasted. The bar area is centrally located without disrupting the dance floor, and when I asked that special care be given for recycling, they told me they already have that in place! Working with Ashley was especially wonderful. I had a planner, but the coordinator at TRAC was also readily available, and had solutions for every single scenario I had questions about. Ashley was truly a dream to work with. From start to finish, every person I worked with at TRAC and Boxwood was genuinely incredible. They know their stuff. But perhaps the best part of working with them was how special our wedding day felt. I know they do this nearly every weekend with hundreds (maybe thousands) of couples. Yet my family and I felt like our wedding was the only one on their plate. They cared about our questions and were excited with us every step of the way. I loved working with this team and cannot recommend them, or this stunning site, enough. Thank you all so much.

We got married here in 12/2021 and it was perfect! We originally chose the Audubon because we wanted a place close to nature but with options for weather contingencies, and the least amount of stress to work with. The Audubon Center checked all those boxes and more. They work solely with Boxwood Hospitality as their event service (from organizing to catering), which covered most of the big stuff. Maggie, our main contact and day-of organizer, was amazing (she helped us with a lot of the planning and kept everything running smoothly on the big day) and the food was phenomenal (not an easy thing since we went with an all custom Asian/Jewish/Vegetarian cuisine). And the setting was absolutely beautiful! ^_^ Oh... and the trails are beautiful too. Make sure to look for turtles over the lake, and bring comfortable shoes.

I cant say enough about how lucky we were to find TRAC and their team. We planned our wedding reception barely a month out (I know, were crazy), and Maggie and Boxwood Hospitality made is SO easy. The venue rental had all the accommodations, and it was very reasonably priced considering you get full catering services and the ENTIRE venue which is absolutely stunning. We got so many compliments on the building and food. Even our photographer was amazed by how many good shooting locations there were! Most importantly Maggie and her team went and above and beyond to make our night happy without a hitch. I was definitely a stressed bride and everyone was so kind and helpful. My husband and I were a two person decorating team and Maggie and her crew jumped at every opportunity to help with setup, guests, and more. I would recommend TRAC and Boxwood Hospitality to anyone.

The trails are great and well maintained but the visitor s center isn t open on most Sundays so time you re visit. The trees were dormant in January and probably a beautiful hike during warmer times of the year.

My husband and I had the pleasure of having our wedding here in October. It was absolutely amazing! Beyond what we could have hoped for. The grounds are gorgeous, the building is beautiful, and the boxwood hospitality team was such a pleasure to work with. Ashley was our wedding coordinator and she was amazing. She was so attentive and was there with all the answers. It was the most beautiful day and I will never forget it!

Beautiful place to have a wedding. There are approximately 6 trails with the longest is 0.9 miles and the shortest is 0.3 miles. Theres a small exhibit about the origins of Trinity River and how it relates to first native peoples that were living here. There are a lot of wildlife that can be spotted. But I can see this is a good place for migrating birds as a pit stop, thus depending on the time if year, its good for bird watchers. Theres a parking lot (gravel) a short distance away from the center.

We had an absolutely fantastic experience with my daughters wedding at Trinity River Audubon Center. The facility is a stunning venue. The staff at Boxwood, particularly Ashley, were professional, friendly and thorough in helping us plan and execute all aspects. We didnt really need a wedding planner due to the extensive assistance provided by Boxwood. Everything from start to finish was impeccable. Plan your event here! You wont be disappointed.

Seemed like a great place to hike, bike, and even a place to horseback ride. Not sure if there were horses on site or if you had to bring your own. The Audubon center was closed for a private event, but you could check out the surrounding preserve if you wanted. There wasnt much wildlife today, 10/17/21.

We stopped by this place in 2016 to check it out for a wedding venue. I cant remember why we did pick this location, but we did enjoy our time here. we took the trail and nature walk and saw so many creatures. I still consider it one of my best dates with my love.
