We love the menu here featuring traditional interior Mexican choices (no Tex Mex). The mole poblano is one of my favorites anywhere. The chile relleno is tops. The pork shank special is very memorable. Our service was great, timely, no mistakes. Prices are reasonable. They dont have a bar, which is disappointing, but good beer choices. They also have wine but the selection is limited. Overall, Im happy to recommend.

Great Mexican food, definitely not Tex-Mex. They dont use lard when cooking, and it seems pretty healthy eating. Lots of yummy vegetarian and gluten-free options. Watch out for the little chile peppers that tell you how hot and spicy a dish is. They mean it! We had the Birria bowl, tender hunks of beef simmered in spicy peppers. Its delicious but hot, at least for us. Also had the Chicken Enmoladas, chicken meat on top of folded corn tortillas with a rich mole sauce, just heaven. No draft beer but nice selections of bottled beer and wine. Great service, friendly, quick, and with a smile.

If you re within driving distance of this place, you re lucky because I m four hours away, and it s the only downside to my visit. This restaurant has the best salsa I ve ever had so good that the waiter called it liquid gold and wouldn t tell me what was in it. Whatever it is, it s worth the trip alone, and thankfully, they sell it in to-go cups (the 12-ounce cup I grabbed should last me a few days, but I already regret not buying more). For the main course, I had the pork in pepper sauce, and my wife ordered the green chicken enchiladas. Both dishes were nothing short of amazing. The flavors were rich and authentic, with the beans tasting fresh and like actual beans, which was a pleasant surprise compared to what you get at most places. I only wish I lived closer because I could easily eat here several times a week. Highly recommend this place.

When I moved to Corpus this was the first restaurant I went to cause a friend recommended it, and honestly I didnt have high expectations cause its hard to find an authentic Mexican restaurant, but DAMN!!!, its reaaaaaaally really really good, and Ana Paulina treated us so nice. Now that Im moving out, Guajillos is what Im going to miss the most. BTW they also have bomb ass street tacos late at night lol (which is hard to find cause everything closes so early).

Leaving 2 stars because the food was pretty good. Service was not :( I specified my son and I had a dairy allergy and the girl brought our guacamole out and it had cheese on top of it. She said to just scrape off the cheese. I don t think she understands how food allergies work. She also stood at the counter chatting with her friend for 10-15 min while we were waiting for her to come take our order. Food was good but I don t think we will return unfortunately.

What a Delight! Really Great Mexican food. No Texas in there. More Mexican soul food. Loved the chile sauce and chips. The food was amazing. Only complaint was that my plate was neglected the main pork of the dish. I only was served about 4oz of pork while other dishes had triple the meat of my dish. I figured they ran out and didnt have more to serve so I got the short end of the stick that day. The location is out of the city, on the main island. Consider the drive because it is good. It was my first time. Limited space, seating. But the food comes out fast that people come and go fast. Wait time is not too long.

So while I made a comment earlier that the owner was upset and assumed I was racist I ll go ahead and rework this comment for you to understand with a lower rating. Food overall it was bland and over spiced even for the regular options. (There are 3 other level of hotter from the normal order of food.) which would classify as spicy anywhere else. So if this bothers you stay away They don t serve anything fajita or breakfast. Their Mex@ food not Tex food. So if you re from there this is your place to eat. The lady that dropped off our food was rude when asked if this was all of food since we have 4 orders and only 2 boxes knowing that each meal has its own box and does not have any social skills with talking to customers. You shouldn t have her work any front counters with customers. The food I ordered I had a question about but was talked to in Spanish and talking down to me because I m trying to orders texmex and ask questions then calls me white boys from San Antonio. Damn sounds racist if you ask me. Plus why was she trying to touch my food when I was asking questions about my order not once but three times tried to touch my food before I could move away my food from her fingers .

Quaint small restaurant with great food reviews. We had to try. Appears they also have a food truck outside the restaurant. Food was exquisite. Husband had special on the board, picadillo plate. I had birria soup.... Made my own birria tacos off the soup without cheese. The taste was incredible. They only serve three corn tortillas with the soup so I had to order extra tortillas. So so good. The chips n salsa are so different and so incredibly good. Not your typical taqueria salsa. Beyond tasty. Service was off as they only have one server. The young lady was nice just had too much on her plate.... Food is definitely pricey for Mexican food. Two people, no extras, or drinks (we had water). $43.00 before tip... Very clean restaurant.

The food is just AMAZING! Each person in the party selected something different so being able to sample each allowed for this to be the new #1 spot to go for authentic Mexican cuisine. The staff are also extremely knowledgeable about the culture and heritage of the food they serve with friendly and inviting service. Vegetarian options: Many options available and others which can be modified at request. Dietary restrictions: We had some from our party who had strict dietary restrictions. With the exception of two items (both soups), the entire menu is Celiac safe which is truly hard to find. Parking: If you go during peak times you will have a chance of not being able to find parking but otherwise they have enough spaces. Kid-friendliness: They have a small kids menu but the majority of the items in the menu can be tailored to your preferences.

This was somewhat of a difficult review. I had very high expectations given that this restaraunt is extremely high rated for Texas restaraunts. I worried that this might impact my review for food. Nonetheless, first off, this is a tiny restaurant. I think this might have affected my table service. I was a table of one person, which of takes up the very limited tables for only one person. My waiter definitely paid more attention to the other tables. He had to walk by my table everytime to make his way to the other tables given the small nature of this restaurant, and rarely made eye contact. I had a glass of wine with my meal and ran out midway. The waiter rarely looked at my table, so I decided to order another glass only if he asked. Right at the end of the meal, he noticed and asked. I accepted even though mostly done with my meal. Overall, the table service wasnt bad, just average. Most communication was nonverbal and very quick in interaction. Given the small nature of the restaurant, it is also very noisy when full, which did not bother me. I had the Green Chicken Enchiladas, which turned out to be very good. Strangely, the cook only put cheese on two of the three enchiladas (see pic). Again, I had sky high expectations for the food. I dont think it was the best Mexican food Ive ever had, but definitely very good, and I am glad they came to the island. Ill definitely return.

Food is so delicious, we came as a group of 9 and everyone enjoyed their meals. So if you want authentic Mexican food it is a good place to go. Although their service and restaurant policies aren t as good and welcoming. Two people have ordered Heineken and they got it, but it was a non-alcoholic beer and server didn t mention it in advance. I have to mention that these people never told anything to server about it. They were polite, especially in front of the big group. Other 2 people ordered Corona, but they got Modelo instead. Server noticed it as she was serving and was willing to change the beers, but people said Modelo is fine just because they were nice. We ordered appetizers guacamole and mole beans but we got only one basket with chips for both appetizers! When we pointed it out, server said that first 4 (for 9 people) baskets are free but the next one is an additional charge. If we would order one appetizer would you serve a half of a basket or what? If you group is big be ready to pay in one check. They will not break it down. Bring some cash because they charge a fee for paying with credit card (it was extra 10$ for 260$ check) Our food was fine but I got my soup in a chipped plate. Dietary restrictions: Most of their food is gluten-free. One of the people on our group requested their food dairy-free and they made it.

Their beans are great! The rice is not typical Spanish rice but it was ok. Didnt get the option of corn or flour tortillas, they just served corn, I prefer flour. I tried to order a Chile relleno Ala carte and they said I couldnt, so that was disappointing. Not sure why they cant accommodate adding something that Im willing to pay for. Tasty food although a bit rubbery at times ;-) - see below. Festive atmosphere with great music. Good service. Slightly higher prices. A place that seems to be a favorite with local and tourists alike. Also offers a midnight limited menu with tacos via the food truck parked in front of the restaurant. Tip: All day breakfast menu is currently only on Sundays! (Not both Saturday and Sunday as noted elsewhere as it was perhaps in the past.) Only challenge was that I almost swallowed a rubber band we found in our Shrimp tostadas appetizer that we had ordered for the kids and fortunately i took a bite and found the rubber band before the kids did (or could have swallowed it) and reported it. Our suspicion was that it came from the cilantro bunch that was used to garnish the dish but who knows. However, it did leave a bad taste (literally) in our mouth. The Chef came and apologized to us personally and they took the dish off our bill. While we genuinely appreciated that, it tainted our experience. As an aside, taking the dish off the bill is an expected courtesy under these circumstances. It questioned the level of hygiene and attention to detail in the kitchen where a rubber band shows up in a hot dish but we all understand mistakes do happen. We would have expected a bit more (significantly discount the entire bill or maybe even invite us back for a better experience on the house). Overall, the family run establishment still seems to be well run otherwise and a local gem with most who visit swearing by the authenticity of the food. Vegetarian options: They are open to making veg options off the menu Parking: Decent number of spots for parking

It was nice to see so much was gluten free. As I am allergic to wheat. However, I ordered the Verde chicken enchiladas and when I got to the middle the chicken was cold. Like out of a fridge cold. The menu is highly limited. I feel like they buy some shredded chicken and heat it up as they need it. It was not supposed to be spicy, my lips and tongue and tingling from the spicy. They did not have sweet tea only regular. However the waitress was extremely kind, and let me bring in a bottled water being that is all I can drink. Not sure I would eat here again, being I could go to the store and buy the stuff precooked and do the exact same thing they just did. Dietary restrictions: They have gluten free options. However, I honestly think this is prepackaged food that is reheated later. I would love to know the seasonings, and if they contain any gluten in them.

If you want to have decent Mexican food and get ripped off while at it, this is your spot. I lived in central México 20 years, so I know mexican food. I was excited to try it since they claim to be Mex without the Tex, but I was highly disappointed, more by the service than the flavor. I asked for pozole, which is traditionally rich in hominy and vegetables, but mine was mostly broth and I could fit all the hominy in my spoon. Same for the veggies. I asked for more hominy and the server said he couldnt, but he could do more veggies instead. I was disappointed, but accepted. I also asked for onions and cilantro since I needed to eat something with substance aside from pure broth. When we got the bill he charged for EVERY. SINGLE. THING. I asked for EVEN THOUGH traditional, authentic Mexican pozole is loaded with goodness. I reminded the server of this and he pridefully said in Spanish no ticket, no taco. This to me is taking advantage of people who dont know what traditional Mexican dishes should include. Also, be ready to get no consome (broth) with your birria tacos even though its traditionally served with a small portion of broth.

To top it off, we had 6 people at our table. Gratuity was already added to our bill. However, I was asked on the tablet the waitress hand me to tip. I decided to pay the tip in cash. I signed the tablet and handed her a twenty dollar bill. She never gave me a receipt. I had to ask her for it. Thats when I found out gratuity had been added. The cactus salad was tangy and balanced. We were already impressed, then we had the homemade lime ice cream. This was hands-down the best ice cream I ve ever had. I can t say enough about the food and service here. It was a joy to find a family restaurant so rich in culinary tradition. We will definitely come back next time we are in town.

Authentic, incredibly flavorful and fresh, interior Mexican food, without the Tex-mess. Small space, huge taste. Edgar was great, helped first-timers digest the extensive menu, really fast and friendly with his service and familiar with all the items. Gotta start with the poblano beans-killer mole and fresh hot chips. Her mole rojo was creamy and loaded with complex flavors. My pork shank was fall-off-the-bone tender, perfectly-seasoned, and huge. Even the rice had a complex but light flavor. Guac is definitely fresh! Giant portions Really two meals per serving. ¡Comida Deluxe!

Ordered the Pork Shank special and it was absolutely delicious. Ordered it every single time Ive ate here. The only place here in Corpus Christi serving you the whole pork shank (bone included). The dish even comes with tortillas on the side to eat with your Pork Shank, make your own taco! If you ever visit Corpus Christi, TX Guajillos is without a doubt a place you should visit. If we could give 10 stars here, we would. We visited this restaurant one year ago and loved it. It was the only restaurant we desired to return to this year while in the area. Edgar is, hands down, the best server we have ever experienced. Knowledgeable of the menu and wine pairing. We don t often leave reviews but it was worthy of it. Cactus salad was refreshing and unique. My husband travels internationally with work and this is one of our favorite family owned restaurants and Edgar sets the bar high. In fact, I think he should contract independently and help the food industry train staff. Superior service, personality, and hospitality. We will be back, brother. Until next time.

That said, its worth every minute of the drive, and Guajillos has soared to the top of our favorite Mexican restaurant in the Coastal Bend.
