The trails are closed even though it says it s open online. Got all 3 toddlers ready and packed up. Got them excited. Drove over here only to see TRAILS CLOSED on every entrance. I m extremely disappointed and now have to find a different trail that doesn t look boring.

Stopped in here on a business trip, land was well taken care of and there was even a free library on site. 10/10 would definitely recommend.

Not much of a forest. More like an area where the trees havent been cut down (yet) on the side of a highway. There are 2 parts, one on each side of said highway: Recreational area and the Nature trails area. The rec area is popular (read crowded). The nature trails area is smaller but quiet. Not a hiking area; just a nature walk with lots of educational placards and sitting/resting areas. Parking: Park at Texas A & M Forest Service sign for nature trails area.

If youre looking for some forest trails in the city, this is it. If youre looking for a real park experience go the extra 30 miles to Huntsville. I would definitely visit here if I lived close by to go for a run or walk a dog. The trails close to the parking lot have lots of doggie poo bags at the posts. So theres a lot of poo, but if you walk in further, it turns into a real trail experience where you dont see the neighboring apartments or hear the cars. We walked a mile in and were still only about 1/3 of the park, so it has potential for several miles of running or hiking.

Two choices here. On one side you get more of a forest walk with a suspension bridge and other small bridges following a small creek. The other side is more open trails catered to horse riding. There is a small pond area that is very picturesque and may have some fish to catch at the right time of year. Definitely worth a trip to each entrance here.

I absolutely love the state park. The only reason I gave it four stars is because they have no garbage cans anywhere. Theres not a ton of trash on the trails butl if there were people could pick it up and throw it away. No restrooms, ton of trails with active nature and animals. Its beautifully placed

What a beautiful oasis in the middle of a now booming area, take a hike in the many trails and you feel you are deep in the piney woods. Lots of wildlife to see, we went there with a mission to spot the now endangered Red Cockaded Woodpecker it took a lot of patience but it paid off in the end, I got to check this amazing little bird off my birding list! sorry for the poor quality of the photo but it was from my IPhone.
