This is a precious restaurant with unique and homey vibes and delightful dishes. In particular the red snapper and chicken fried steak are to die for. The snapper was one of the best fish preparations I have had, and certainly one of the best this far inland. The grits and veggies served with the snapper were exceptional. They were creamy without losing their shape, snap, or integrity. The chicken fried steak was wonderful. Its a huge portion but so delicious its hard not to finish (and kind of hard to share, I had to beg for a second bite!). Really excellent ambiance and food. Service was a bit slow, but they were busy. A few more servers would help, but the meal didnt lose any quality because of the busy evening. Parking: Massive amounts of parking. On weekdays there is no issue finding a well-lit and nearby spot.

6:45pm reservation and no one took our order until almost 7:20pm including drinks. a lot of sitting waiting for any service. food arrived cold (seasoned gulf shrimp - not very flavorful either) and before our wine. we had to ask if our wine was coming or not. great concept but over priced for what we experienced. lost interest in their moonlight dinner due to this terrible experience. should ve gone to republic or porters.

Very interesting menu. Burgers were great I d prefer it cooked more but I don t mind medium temp. Blueberry Joy Cheese bread is really good I suggest you try it. Drinks are good but I don t like sitting this close to people at all, so no real privacy unless there is some seating elsewhere. Server was very very nice, I would come back just for the kindness. Soufflé for dessert was great , also no Tiramisu here.

Had been looking forward to returning to Ronin all week, but unfortunately had an infuriating experience last night. The food took forever to arrive because the restaurant was also serving a large event next door. As a result everything on our plates had gone cold or dry. Nor did anyone come to apologize or check in during our ridiculously long wait for our food. When we mustered up the courage to say something afterwards, the entire issue was barely acknowledged or addressed. We saw several other tables frustrated as well, and also being left in the dark. For the prices they charge and the quality they espouse, Ronin should care enough to shut down the dining room if they will be serving a large event that will result in inferior food and service for regular guests. Or clearly train staff to handle such evenings so that they re not caught unprepared and flustered either. That said, the decor is always lovely and the drinks are always great.

My wife and I booked a reservation here for our anniversary. We sat at our table for 15 minutes before being greeted, and once we were finally greeted nothing was said about our wait. A large party was seated after us in the same room and they had drinks before we were even looked at. We wanted a nice experience for our anniversary so we decided to just leave after that. Also a small thing, but in the reservation they asked if we were celebrating anything and we put anniversary. Why are you going to ask about that if you aren t going to do anything about it?

The first thing that made an impression was the prices. Truthfully I dont mind paying for good food and environment. I was expecting elevated cooking for the cost. It did not stand up to the cost. I had what was purported to be lamb shank but it was so salty it could have been anything. My sons steak was not special and I have cooked better in my own kitchen. The mashed potatos across the table were all too salty. To be honest the best dishes were the sweet potato and the hamburger. At an average of 60 bucks per person for what tasted like crock pot recipes I dont think well go back unless we hear they have changed their menu. The wait staff were friendly, efficient and professional.

Came here for a celebratory graduation dinner with a party of 9. Extremely disappointing and the manager didn t even say sorry. ): Got to the restaurant at 5:45 and didn t leave until 8 because the service was so slow. It seemed like our waitress was also bartending, so we didn t get the best service at all. Our drinks took forever to come out and our waitress only checked in every 30 minutes. It took us an hour to put a food order in. To start, the $40 charcuterie boards are enough for 2 people. Not worth the price. My dad s New York Strip was NOT a New York strip and inedible. My brother and sister s burgers were dry and unevenly cooked, fries were soggy. My husband s Wagyu chicken fried steak was extremely tough and borderline inedible. My orange chicken was cheap and comparable to the quality of a mall Chinese food stall and then charged us $35 for it. LOL! Extremely disappointing and EXTREMELY overpriced. They comped us for some drinks and my dad s steak but like I said, didn t even apologize. Do better!!!!

I ve been to ronin a few times before this is the first time the food was just ok at best the portions were much much smaller than previous time - the shrimp pasta was laughable (legit the size of an appetizer) - we had to order another main. Even the roasted chicken has been reduced to basically a chicken leg. Not sure what happened but def sad as this was a go to spot for me :(

A bustling, fine dining experience, Ronin offers delicious, high quality cuisine with an effort to provide local farm to table options when available. It was extremely busy the evening we visited, and despite having a reservation, the hostess lost us in the chaos of the evening. We waited 50 minutes for a waitress to take our order. Despite the long wait, we had a wonderful time and the food turned out perfectly. Due to the extended wait, we were offered a complimentary dessert, which was appreciated. We may not have had the best experience for such a fine dining establishment, but we had a wonderful evening regardless. Reservations highly recommended.

the worst hostess I ve ever experienced We were super excited to try Ronin. We had a group of 16 and were out to celebrate several birthdays in our family, 14/16 drove over 2 hours to celebrate with us. Anyways, the hostess seemed to have an agenda to ruin the night from the start. I really cannot even put into words how condescending she was. We brought in a small cake to mark the occasion and the way she came down and shamed my mother with a how dare you attitude . We don t allow that Her presentation was all off. Then she circled back a few minutes after we were seated to let us know we don t allow outside cakes, but we ll make an exception by adding a $50 cake cutting fee AND I m going to make note of this in your permanent file The way I about spit out my water in shock, like who are you?? The high school principal who caught me without a hall pass?? We were ready to drop some $$$ (on a dinner at a place that didn t look particularly busy for a Saturday night) but she spoiled that for the restaurant. So go ahead, please write in my file because we won t be back. The food was subpar for the price and my order was wrong. The waiters tried to salvage her berating my sweet-as-can-be mother. They never came to cut the cake despite the trouble and fee , and 40% automatic gratuity charge. This restaurant will not survive in our small town being greeted that way and at those prices. If I wanted lashings before my dinner, I can get better food for less elsewhere.

Although there was plenty of seating available, they put us at a table 2 ft away from another table that talked the whole time and detracted from the romantic evening that we were trying to attain. We started with the Raclette Toast and were very pleased with it. I got the Maine Diver Scallops and my spouse got the Wagyu Fried Chicken. Scallops were phenomenal and would get them again. Everything about the fried steak, though, was mediocre at best. It was pretty bland, as was the mashed potatoes. No salt, pepper, or butter added to anything. Sounds good, but the drinks were simply not very good. My margarita was so sour that I couldn t taste the tequila or Cointreau. We ordered the cheese board with charcuterie over $40 the resulting product had far more board than cheese and the $8 charcuterie consisted of six, thin slices of meat three each of salami and chorizo. The tempura veggies were okay, but nothing to rave about. All-in-all, a very poor showing that pretty much guarantees that we won t be back.

Theres a lot of seating space but bathrooms accommodate only one person. Not cool with a restaurant full of patrons. I wont be back. Im not one to leave bad reviews.. I leave honest reviews. Christophers World is similar in price but blows a place like Ronin away. We missed happy hour and when I asked if we would get a discount being that it wasn t our fault that no one took our order, the server said she would ask. We did get the discount but we learned about it when we saw the check. The server was very dismissive and not engaging at all. Went there with a group of 10, including 4 younger kids, for brunch for a special occasion. This wasnt our first time there with a large group, so we expected a positive experience like the other times - especially considering that its a very expensive restaurant. We were so disappointed. First the condescending waiter brought us the wrong hors doeuvres, and then it took them an hour from ordering to bring our food while our kids went through the snacks I had brought and got hungrier and hungrier. My mother was paying, and when she complained to the manager, the manager angrily comped the meal. Unfortunately, this special occasion celebration was still ruined, and theyve still lost our business...which is so sad because theyre the only farm to table restaurant in town. Especially do not recommend this restaurant for kids. For the most part, the food and drinks are still very good, so you might enjoy this restaurant if you like delicious food and are not in a hurry or have low standards for service.

Our waiter finally came and he seemed extremely inexperienced and slow. Ended up being a very long dinner which was not ideal considering we had our baby with us. All around fantastic dining experience. The outstanding service was very knowledgeable, helpful and friendly. The farm fresh food was absolutely delicious. The tempura fried vegetables were delightfully tender & flavorful. The short rib & house made pasta was cooked & seasoned to perfection. The pulled pork tacos were fantastic. The rustic brick building with exposed beams helped to create very pleasant ambiance. Im already looking forward to our next dinner at Ronin. Update October 2022: The service and cuisine are still excellent. The staff was very prompt, friendly and knowledgeable. The Jerk quail, grilled eggplant, and blackened shrimp alfredo were all absolutely delicious. The Raclette toast and Esquites were delicious appetizers. The chai ice cream dessert was very good. The local Oktoberfest beer from Blackwater Draw Brewery was a fantastic beverage to wash it all down. The chicken fried steak was served with a large portion of potatoes and vegetables. The pompano was good, if you are willing to eat the fish served whole. Cocktails were good. Dessert options were not particularly inviting and the one we picked left much to be desired. We ordered 2 ice cream/peach desserts to share as a table of 5, but when they were delivered, both were served in different sized bowls - one small and the other medium - no extra plates offered. The texture was off putting and the flavors weren t good I have has lots of shrimp and grits and this was by far the least appetizing and it cost over $34 for the little bowl serving the shrimp over your mashed potatoes would have been a way better option. We would recommend the farmhouse salad and the bread for appetizers, although expensive, they were tasty. It makes me sad that such a cute venue doesn t back up their prices with better quality and learned my lesson not asking how much the per class cost was for wine and how many ounces it included. We just assumed it would be reasonable. Disappointed.

Made my first visit a few weeks back. Impressive. Very well-stocked bar and wine cellar. The staff was friendly, knowledgeable and professional to a fault, very motivated to make their diners experience very enjoyable. A rich Añejo Tequila helped, but Cookies and Milk as a dessert was a small stroke of genius, and made my night...

A new favorite spot! The food and drinks were amazing! The drinks are handcrafted infusing flavors from the garden. The charturie board was excellent with unique cheeses. The tempura vegetable was lightly battered. I ordered the Pompano fish dish which was light and creamy. So good! My husband ordered the steak. It was perfection! My son ordered the chicken fried steak. I didn t try it but I know it was good because his plate was empty. We will be back! Btw, the service was outstanding thanks to Kyler!

We had the best time here last night. The food was creative and tasty. I love the story of this place. They grow many products on their farm that they cook here. The wine list is extensive and great. Such a great vibe. Abby the bartender was great and split our dinner without even being asked to do so which made it so much easier for my husband and I to share. There were 5 in our party. Our waiter Kyler was amazing, personable, and conscientious about our table! The starters were delicious cooked with perfection and flavors were spot on! The breading on the veggie starter was light and airy and had great flavor. Entrees were outstanding with chicken fried steak mashed potatoes and slaw all cooked impeccably. The shrimp and grits were not what I was expecting in A good way. The beet green salad and pickled onions were divine. Prices were spot on, highly likely that we will return!

Our server Chelsea was outstanding and polite, she knew the drinks and the menu very well and wasn t thrown by all of our questions. Ronin is great for a special occasion or treat! The food was well-prepared and fresh and the atmosphere was unique! We loved the lavendar souffle as well (but Ronin, if you read this, the souffle needs to come with at least two butter sized scoops of ice cream not just one!) One negative: the wine list just looks like a way to show off however much money you have, particularly when their beer and liquor menu were at a much more palatable price point. Ronin should throw in a few more reasonable house wines by the glass to avoid insulting their customers.

Food was good. I HATED the fact I was expected to scan some code with my phone. This is Terrible PR. Mine didnt work. So I asked for a paper version. They went looking for one, needless to say there wasnt one. So the waitress gave me an iPad. I dont like anything Apple if was impossible to use as it went off. So I had to resort to my phone. I eventually found the website, which interestingly was poor. I made a selection and turned off my phone. Shortly after the waitress came around. As fate would have it, my selection was unavailable. So as there were no menus and my phone was off I chose something another person in my group was getting; fortunately that turned out well. Then when I came to eat, being crammed at the end of the row, I had to battle with the suspension cables hold up the tables. That was my second bad experience. So all told. I will not come back nor recommend this place unless I am invited to come with a pleasant group of people.

Has plenty of outdoor seating for large groups. Everything is very cute and clean. Staff is super friendly and helpful. A must try! Update 11/22/21: Do not love brunch here. Way too expensive unless you re dying for a very unique brunch menu in BCS. Certainly there is no more of a unique brunch menu that I ve seen in town, but you pay for it. If I were them, I would try a more normal menu selection, e.g. biscuits and gravy. The biscuit that came with my shrimp and grits was delicious!

Ok so the food is terrific! Why the two less stars then? The servers had us wait until 845 for an 830 table. (What s really the point of a reservation?) when we got there at 815. We ordered a couple drinks and I wanted a specific vodka in my drink that was discussed in one of the beverage classes at Ronin itself. So I went in and asked for it. The bartender told me they were out and couldn t make it for me - I could literally see the very bottle sitting behind her on the bar and checked to make sure it was the very one. The food was beautiful and so was the ambience. I was there for a special occasion and the treatment we received sort of dulled the moment. One tip - go here for the food but if it s a special day, don t bother to take your business here since level of service varies. For a place that s priced at this price point - I wish people at Ronin made a little bit of an effort to be nicer so you got the experience one expected while at a nice place. Having said all this - go at a less busy time for best service experience and get the scallops and soufflé! Best items on the menu for me. Always beautifully made.

Oof. Heard great things about Ronin, but it was a let down. Steak was incredibly tough and chewy. Elotes appetizer was burnt on one side and undercooked on another. I enjoyed my chai tea but the gf said her drink had hardly any flavor (Watermelon Sugar) and tasted like grapefruit, not watermelon. Tacos were supposed to have wagyu beef but it was also chewy and tough. Either overcooked, old, or substituted out with sub-par meat. Overall, 9/10 for the ambience, 2/10 for the food.

Super disappointing. The food was subpar... burnt eggplant, husband had a salt bomb in the chicken fried steak, friend had a pork taco that was 95% fat... she had to send it back. Friend hates mushrooms but because the menu didnt mention it, her dish had mushrooms. Cocktails are delicious, expensive and take a loooong time but good. Appetizers were good too except the raclette toast was burned and more tomato jam than there was bread, cheese, or the plate needed. It was my birthday dinner and I typed that in the reservation, but the service was so bad and zero acknowledgement of the special occasion. Waiter only came to deliver food and never checked on us. Husband missed beer he ordered and only got it when I brought it to the waiters attention after everyone had their drinks for a while and he waited 5 minutes just to get water. A lot of the staff were just standing around, because the restaurant was not busy that night.. There were at least 5 to 6 either hostesses or servers that were just standing around talking and we would have ordered so many more drinks if someone had just checked on us. Overall its just really lackluster for how much you spend, ambiance is amazing but staff ruin the vibe because they act like they have better things to do, food and drinks taking exorbitant amounts of time to get to you and the service has been hit-or-miss. Hate having to write negative reviews because I want the area to flourish with local businesses... sad to say Ill probably never go back.

Ronin is a delightful, quaint farm-to-table restaurant with a relaxing atmosphere and impeccable food. They source their food from local farms all around Texas (including Ronin Farm). The porch was super peaceful and there are rocking chairs and porch swings. From the moment you walk in to the moment you walk out the doors there is nothing great service. Each dish is spectacular. The chefs just know what they are doing. The food took a while to get out but was so so worth it. To start we got the beignets with peach carmel sauce. They were light and fluffy. Perfect amount of sweetness. For main dishes we got the omelet, fried chicken, french toast, and wagyu tacos. They were all fantastic. So so delicious. The omelet and tacos was so fresh and flavorful. The french toast was perfectly cooked and not soggy or drenched with syrup. All the coffees we ordered were awesome! I really recommend this restaurant for a weekend brunch with friends.

Our experience at Ronin was unparalleled. Our server Kendall was phenomenal at helping us navigate the wide variety of wine, cocktails, and liquors available. We tried new drinks such as a peach mead and fresh watermelon margaritas. Had fantastic Cabernet and Merlot paired with our entrees of chicken fried steak and braised rib pasta. My mom had the fresh lake bass that was so tender and flavorful it melted in your mouth. To finish the night out we had the most fantastic desserts. Sticking with the watermelon theme I had a watermelon soufflé paired with cucumber ice cream which was like eating a cloud of fruity bliss. My parents had the caramel parfait and vegan coconut creme pie ice cream which even though vegan was absolutely to die for. Most of all, our server Kendall, was an absolute joy and made the entire experience for us. If you re looking for good food, good atmosphere, and a sustainable unique culinary experience this place has it. Do me a favor, get out of your comfort zone and try something new. The decor, the nod to the past as well as the menu that speaks to what is growing (mostly locally) right now you are in for a treat. IF YOU eat vegetarian- ask your wait staff what Brian is cooking. The wagyu tacos and guacamole was yummy- as was the bass. Prepared and seasoned perfectly. The soufflé was beautiful, and delicious- we order the suggested drink pairing too. You know me: if I cant give a five-star review, I tend not to do it. Small business doesnt need low reviews. The devil, however, is in my details. We went for Mothers Day with a party of 9 reserved three days in advance. This venue is just striking, with its industrial ceilings and brick walls at the end of Main in Old Town Bryan. Those features, while loved by anyone who doesnt need a hearing aid, caused conversation to be difficult for the octogenarians in our group (see the reference to the hearing aid.) The $26 chicken-fried steak was actually worth it, because there was not one morsel of gristle on it. The $18 glass of house wine is a bit extreme for our area. I paid no attention to anything else. Mine was delicious.
