About the Company
rating: 4.4
Owner, J. Cody Whitten, grew up in College Station graduating from Texas A&M class of 1983. Having a love for barbecuing, J. Cody took an opportunity to go to work for the well-known Joe Allen’s Pit Barbecue in Abilene, Texas. After spending almost two years perfecting his barbecuing and grilling expertise, J. Cody returned to town and acquired the current property less than two weeks before 9/11. Originally, the building was home to Tom’s Barbecue but the torch was passed and J. Cody’s Steaks & BBQ was born. After a short remodel, J. Cody’s opened its doors November 19, 2001 and soon became a local favorite...

Staff was great but the manager is the worst person I ve ever spoke to at a service industry business. She had a problem bc we were a group of 13 and didn t call for reservations when they had nobody here. Said with an attitude it s common sense to call ahead. She made several other rude comments on the way to the table. All 13 of us walked out and went to Long Horn Tavern where they greeted us with smiles. The manager at J Cody s is probably the reason they don t have any staff. Anyone who talks to a large group of paying customers like that probably disrespects her employees in the worst way. Never going again

The food at the restaurant was awesome. And when I come back to College Station, TX I hope to eat there again. The bbq was delicious and so tender and juicy. The Cody corn was fantastic. I encourage people to eat at J Cody s. It was a good bbq experience for me. Vegetarian options: There were some vegetarian options but not many. Salads, deep fried vegetables and, mashed potatoes are about it. It is a bbq joint. Parking: The parking was good. We went at lunch and there was plenty of parking.

I remember years ago being able to come in and go to the walk up counter and get a veggie plate and they would hand me a to go box and I could walk over to the veggie bar and fill it as much as I wanted and then they would pack it up for me to go and it was $10. Well, it s still $10 but the counter service is no longer there, which is fine, but I went to get the veggie plate again because sometimes I just want sides and no meat and 20 minutes later I was brought with the smallest cups in the world for my four sides packaged individually. Figured OK, I ll go home and put them on a plate and they were OK , but nothing compared to what I used to get. I also got the last blackberry cobbler. It was maybe a quarter cup and completely bland and tasteless. Very disappointed in the quality and quantity and I don t think I ll be back.

I didnt even get a drink until nearly 40 minutes after I placed my order. The place was not busy when we came in so not sure why we had so many issues. I recommended J Cody s Steaks & BBQ for your catering events. I had tasted them at another event and put my request in for menu choices for our event. I already knew the steak was really good. But I was not sure if they were affordable for a non-profit event. I was greatly surprised and had no question for the menu selection. They worked with us on several things to smooth things out. And those things even fell through, you would not have known it did. Their staff was so gracious and stepped in and helped us out. I am forever grateful for the service, the kindness and the incredible food. Thank you for helping us have a successful event

Ordered the large peach cobbler.. must have been the last bit left in the pan... because I had cobbler crust with 2 small slices of peach with very little sauce... have already eaten a lot of the crust.. picture of the bowl of crust.. waiter was nice... they didnt have 1/4 star for the food and drink.. so had to give them a full one star

My daughter and I need to be very careful when going out to eat as we have celiac and other dietary restrictions. The manager, Joshua, was very knowledgeable about the menu, was fluent with how their kitchen handles the plates and other food items, and even was aware of some ingredients in their sauces that might have hidden traces of gluten. He was very engaged in helping my daughter and I find something safe for us to eat. Our server, Taylor, was excellent in implementing their protocols of notifying the kitchen of our special dietary needs, and was also extremely kind and attentive to the other needs of our (large party) table that evening. All in all, it was a very enjoyable experience for everyone!

We were here on a Wednesday evening. Wasnt too busy, but it wasnt slow. We were seated by the manager and he very kindly thanked for choosing the restaurant to eat at. One of my highest praises will always be for active, helpful management. Our server, Christopher, brought out the bread basket almost immediately. The food was spectacular. Every single thing was very, very good. Of course, I had to get the free cookie! We were offered more bread to take home with our leftovers when we asked for boxes, which I thought was extremely generous of the restaurant. Free cookies & bread?!?! Excellent service, great food, and the restrooms were clean (you know I checked). Yup, Ill be back!

Well I ordered turkey and they were out of it, so I changed to brisket but they were out of that too! I ended up getting sausage! To be fair they were packed since it was Fathers Day.

Experienced waitress who made the experience enjoyable. The food was delicious, especially the steaks, codycorn, and jalapeño cornbread! Parking: Ample parking with plenty of handicap spaces.

Not a good dining experience. Party next to us was way too loud and inconsiderate of the rest of the diners. Food was not that great. Brisket was dry, as well as the sausage. And .what bbq establishment runs out of ribs half-way through their daily service. Very disappointed.

The brisket was pretty bad -- dry, tough and flavorless. Sausage was okay. Sides were nothing special.
