Great experience, animals in good condition (well fed and clean spaces) except the black bear who was suffering hot weather. Workers were kind. You can take the bus (Boca Chica) and leaves you right on front!

The zoo staff should place more effort cleaning the zoo. The pathways need sweeping, the dead trees need trimming and the obvious trash and animal waste removed. The concession stand staff should be required to take customer service classes before attending zoo patrons. - Overall not so great experience attending the zoo

Exhibits were closed in some areas of the zoo, or a whole section was closed off. Not enough animals out there were signs posted all over the place about ani.als being out. But they fail to disclose this when you are trying to get online tickets. Its pretty pricey for the limited exhibits.

Very cute place to go and to learn about animals. And bring your little kids. Bring some good hats and parasols/umbrellas and also water and snacks if you like. There are spots in which you can refresh yourself with water mist and the playground for kids has them too so I recommend bringing kids with swimsuits or clothes that can get wet. Remember to bring sunscreen!

Gladys zoo is a nice getaway from the beach at South Padre Island. It s a tastefully designed place, maximizing space to create a world of wilderness in the city. Bridges meandering through lakes, flamingo are housed along the trail, and gorillas are housed on the island. There s Kangaroo family of mom and baby, Lions cheetah , various birds, petting zoo area, and a good size playground . It completes the land portion of a south padre island vacation.

We love visiting our local zoo, it is very interesting, and admirable how they take care of each little animal. Its a great place to visit with family in Brownsville Tx. I recommend going in the fall season or early spring, since the heat in the valley in summer is very intense.

I wish I could give this place zero stars the audacity of them charging almost 20 bucks for adult tickets and 11 for kids is ridiculous spite the fact that half the zoo is under construction and animals not being in there enclosures. It s sad to see that they don t have water for them when I went today and it s excruciatingly hot . The staff members are all over the place but not in the food stands they should be ashamed of themselves being this way. They should at least discount the price for not have all the animals out and it s clear they don t spray poison for bugs saw a boy get attacked by ants just from sitting down and catching a break from the sun. Over all horrible experience I hope this makes people stop coming here so that they learn from there mistakes and fix em good thing my son is only 6 so he doesn t know exactly what a bad experience is . The fact the receipt says no refund speaks volumes I will not be coming back and again hope this changes People s mind instead of spending money here might as well go to Peter piper pizza or the beach water park for your kids enjoyment. It was a nice experience we got to see many different wildlife, really enjoyed the aviary walk in section as well as the reptile exhibit. However we were looking forward to having the kids check out the sting ray section but no stingray were found unfortunately. We did have the kids feed a giraffe and that was a very cool experience. We also came during the Dino Fury expo and it was okay not what I remembered as a kid but still pretty neat for Dino loving kids! Just come prepared with lots of water and if you have kiddos be prepared for them to get wet in the little splash pad/playground area where they can cool off.

Overall this is a great zoo that s trying to bring great experiences to families. Animals seem well taken care of and engage more than I expected for how hot our area gets. Area is clean and well maintained. They allow strollers and wagons, which I really appreciate. The family yearly pass is VERY reasonable and I love the different engagements they bring to the zoo, like DinoFury and the holiday events. My main reason for only giving 4 stars is that they re food options are extremely limited, rarely open, often items are broken, a lot of the workers only speak Spanish and can t seem to communicate to patrons, and not many kid-friendly options for a place that s supposed to be family friendly. I would also encourage them to get more fans/misters for the area to keep the airflow moving. I m happy to be a zoo member and will continue to support their efforts to bring these great educational opportunities to the RGV.

I had came here as a teen many years back, i didnt payed much attention then but i came back now that im older and really enjoyed the experience with my family. Its under remodeling at the moment so a few animals are missing right now. I just hope theyre being treated good. I love animals and i dont like the idea of them being in captivity but i understand sometimes its a necessary thing for their survival. Wonderful zoo. So many different animals. We used to live in the area but moved to WI. Was visiting a cousin in Temple and my mom and I decided to make the drive and relive our youth.
