Dedicated in 1850 , the land for this plaza was a gift to the City of Brownsville from the city's founder, Charles Stillman. The fountain was installed in 1929. In 1975 it was restored through a gift from the Yturria family who also gifted the decorative bandstand in 1976 and was once again restored through funding from the Brownsville Community Improvement Corporation in 2006. The park is open year-round. It hosts varied events through out the seasons. The Lighting Ceremony takes place in early December, and the trees stay lit and decorated until New Years. This park is part of a vibrant and important part of Brownsville community. Washington Plaza is a nice place to enjoy history and the local community.

Attended sombrero festival with my family. Have been attending and competing since 1992. The park is nice but with all of the tents, there s no breeze. They also took out the extra bleachers for people to sit at.

They had a big thing going on here for Christmas. It was for small business owners.they had booths of all sorts and the animals could go. The kids had all sorts of activities and Christmas movies and costumes. Toilets: They had porta potties. Dog-friendliness: Yes doggies got treats also.they were dressed all cute. Picnic area: It was more just bleachers and the water fountain you could site and eat and watch every one.

Went to the Christmas tree lighting. They had a lot of small business booths. 2 of my adult boys had a both each for their new businesses. Toilets: They had portables. Dog-friendliness: Dogs were there in their little Christmas outfits. So cute Picnic area: It has a water fountain . Lots of people were eating there treats and sitting by the water.
